Terrible customer service. I work from home and my internet has been out for almost two full days. It went out on a Saturday, so I still haven't been able to get a person on the phone to explain the problem or provide an ETA, beyond the automated message. When I called back after the repair window closed and my internet was still down, I was urged to switch to text for better service. After doing so, the person who answered my text ghosted me for 5 hours, until I messaged that I wanted to cancel my service. I've been a customer for 10 year, but after this, I won't be anymore. Update: I finally got a human on the phone 36 hours after the outage, and was told she would not be able to provide me with any information and would have to send me to the repair team. I was transferred and told it was an hour and a half wait. I hung up, called back and told the next agent I wanted to cancel my service. He immediately provided me with details about the outage and was apologetic, but didn't try to stop me from canceling or offer me any real incentive to stay. They are scam artists. They confuse you with bombardment of texts and emails when you have the tech coming to install. I got it installed and it wasn't working. I called and they put in an order repair to come check the problem. They bombarded me with texts and emails to confirm my appointment. They threw in a confirmation for wire protection as well which I didn't notice. Be very careful with them. Corporate greed is rampant and they will do anything. And they make you listen to a recording instead of telling you in person what you are agreeing too. DON'T AGREE TO ANYTHING ON EMAIL OR TEXTS. They send you a reminder one month in advance and conveniently, just after your due date, SO now you have a late fee.. I ordered a fiber optic installation and when the installer arrived he told he that I would have to pay $200.00 to install the infrastructure to my residence, I agreed to this. One month later he came back and told me that fiber optic is not possible in my location and would install the standard DSL line instead, I begrudgingly agreed. After the line was installed I called the central office because I wanted a static IP address. After being transferred on the phone three times and disconnected three times, I was told that static IP addresses are no longer available. I have now been on the phone with CenturyLink for 5 (five) hours. I was so frustrated, I slammed my fist into my laptop and broke my trackpad. I was scheduled for landline repair work on August 28th between 8am and 5pm and I made myself available at home for that. I had no dial tone or any service for all of August 2024 and had to wait until this very late date for anyone from Century Link to look at it. On my appointment day, I received a text that the Century Link technician had begun work, but may not even be on the premises - I certainly never saw him nor was I contacted by anyone at my house. I didn't hear anything for the rest of the day and my phone still had no dial tone and anyone calling me would get, "All circuits are busy." I had to contact them online a few days later to find out what was going on. They told me that it was resolved--which it was NOT! I was not refunded my auto payment for August -- I was charged in full for NO SERVICE at all despite two different Century Link reps saying that they would take care of that. Essentially, they robbed me with fraudulent schemes. I was scheduled again for repairs after Labor Day and continually received texts before the appointment date asking if I wanted to cancel the appointment or asking if it was fixed. It was as if they were trying to get out of coming out at all. On that scheduled day I was updated that they would be out to me between 8am and 12pm and that a technician would contact me when 30 minutes away. That never happened. I had to go online to their customer support and they informed me that it was transferred to their cable team, but no one communicated with me -- AGAIN. I had wasted another one of my days off from work. Century Link DOESN'T CARE AT ALL. I cancelled my service after being with them for 25 years. Do not use CenturyLink anywhere past the Tucson mountains. It sucks! See my attached pic. They promise 10 mbps and you get way less than that using the hard line which we got an average of 2-6. Now the WiFi gets worse which you can see the pic. I even compared it to my In laws house which is right up the street on 15mbps with Comcast. It's has been like this non speed for the last 6 months we had them. 2 months prior, in early February I ordered Fiber Gigabit internet from CenturyLink. 1st let me be clear, I have a RF engineering and IT background. I'm not the average idiot with home internet and have thousands of dollar of professional enterprise grade IT gear as my home network. I'm also well aware of the dubious reputation CenturyLink has in the industry for screwing this up and the utterly useless customer support for consumers or businesses. I am still a Cox customer at 1gb at at nearly $149 per month and choose to move to Centurylink for the bi-directional fiber speeds of 1gband no data caps AND, most importantly the ability to obtain a 5x8 static PUBLIC IP address block. 3 months later, dozens phone calls, online chats, 2 service visits and still cannot get the correct account or my static IP addresses. First of all, the customer support is provided by a bunch of south central or south east asians who only speak English as a second language. As a US customer I expect those I'm talking to to comprehend and speak English. This alone is infuriating and causes language barrier difficulties only making communicating WORSE. I'm tired of talking to fake English names, or Ahmed every time. Reps have little to minimal knowledge as to what they are talking about. Obviously script reading. 1. Setting up fiber account online selects without your knowledge or input a pre-paid account called an Eshop or Web account. This is useless type of account you can't do anything with. It's for lay people internet users and isn't eligible for static IP. This wasn't known at time of order. No where does Centurylink explain what the account is you're signing up for. Tech showed up and installed the Fiber ONT and left. Said call back to order static IP. 2. Called to order static IP, said not available, must change account type to to a post-paid account and advised I could now order static. Centurylink did a soft credit pull and assured me the account was changed to a post-paid CRIS account. New service date set. Tech arrived, did nothing other than verify it was installed and left. Cancelled the eshop account and got a new account number. WRONG, you still can't order static even as a post paid account as it's still a web or eshop account. 3. More phone calls, more chats, going in endless circles. Most reps don't bother and tell me I can't order static, static was never offered, isn't offered anymore since 2020 or the account isn't eligble. More frustration. At this point I started a BBB complaint that has so far gone unanswered. 4. Still more phone calls. Still more online customer service chat still going in circles. Still non static IP order and each rep continues to tell me conflicting and useless information Finally, after close to 30 chats and phone calls, i reach a technical support person who appears to be informed and verifies I am on a CRIS account an d can order static public IP. He completes the order and says the static IP will be assigned by 715 on Friday 04/02/2021. Now on Saturday, 04/03/2021 I contact customer / technical support to find out what the public static IP that's been assigned to be service is. I need to update the modem and update my own networking with this new IP address. 11 customer service reps bounce me around endlessly, same routing of yes you can, no you can't, I don't know, let me transfer you to yet another person. The final rep states I am still not on the correct account time and static IP cannot be added. He advised I must cancel this account yet again and call back on Monday to have sales "write up a new account" that can support static IP addressing on fiber. CENTURYLINK HAS NOT RESPONDED TO THE BBB COMPLAINT I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY STATIC IP ORDER COMPLETED NOR AM I ON THE CORRECT ACCOUNT. THIS IS THE MUST INFURIATING CIRCLE JERK OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED. CENTURYLINK has one remaining opportunity to get this right. read more
