I really wanted to like New Berlin Seafood, but after giving it two chances, I'm honestly left…read moredisappointed. On my first visit (a Wednesday), I waited over an hour just to be seated....only to find out they were completely out of oysters for the week. That was frustrating, especially after such a long wait. I decided to give them another shot this past Wednesday, hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately, it didn't improve. This time, I was told that oysters can no longer be prepared a certain way because it's considered a "special order." Instead, you're limited to however they choose to serve them.....either raw or lightly steamed. For a seafood spot, that's a bit surprising. Most people have a preference when it comes to oysters, and being told you can't customize your order feels restrictive. After speaking with the manager, she did agree to accommodate my request this one time (for one or two dozen), but also made it clear that moving forward, it wouldn't be allowed. That response didn't sit well with me....it gave the impression that customer preferences aren't really a priority. Between the long wait times, limited availability, and lack of flexibility with orders, I left feeling unpleased and unsatisfied. At this point, I'm not sure if I'll be returning.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the area that much, and only once did I make the journey just to come here. What is the draw, you may ask? The menu offers a little something different. The atmosphere and vibe are always inviting, and the staff is super friendly. The prices are fair, portions are ample, and there is plenty of parking. The decor is fun too! Not to mention, they give a veteran discount with proof of ID. What more can you ask for? Well, I know what I can ask for! To the owners: pretty please, with sugar on top, consider opening a location in St. Augustine. Not in the downtown area, but the folks north of town need something; they need you! Around the Palencia & Kensington area, off US 1 to be exact...or anywhere nearby in that area. I did eat enough a portion of mine before running out of coke, so I had to pause eating as I need a liquid as I eat. I had split this with my boyfriend, so he enjoyed his fully warm. Mine was good for those first few bites, and really enjoyed the fries. They remind me of the filmstrip fries you can get in Disney's California Adventure. - Coke + Lime: if the machine is calibrated, this is always a win for me! It definitely made a travel day better. Usually places want to give you garlic butter and the crab legs barely have flavor. Here, every bite of crab meat was seasoned. They even sale their sauces for anyone to purchase. The gentleman working there on a Sunday filling in for the owner was friendly. One important thing my mom did is confirm that she wanted to have the food warned up. She mentioned that they don't do unless you ask, as it's easier to serve quick and allow the people to heat to their choice or have them do. However, when you buy in bulk (large quantities), you get a discount. Crawfish season ends in June. I wish that they have more selection of seafood, such as clams, fish, crabs, etc. Be aware that live blue crabs are sold out fast! Their hours vary, but they are usually opened Thursday - Saturday from 8 AM to 4 PM. And on Sunday, about 9 AM to about 3 PM. Give this place a try for their fresh seafood from the Mayport!
