Disaster! Please read!!!!!!!! I wish I read and took seriously some of the reviews below, I would have avoided the embarrassment I experienced today. I decided to get my hair colored today and my regular spot was closed ( Sunday) so I decided to go here. I called and asked about the cost for color and was quoted $70. I said deal, I'm on my way. As I sat down in the chair and the stylist struggled to explain to me what she was going to do I got a gut feeling that I should just walk out, instead of listening,and against my better judgment I stayed. We decided to do OMBRÉ. I told her I didn't want to go to light and she agreed While waiting for my color I noticed the receptionist walked out on a smoke break, I know this because she paraded with a cigarette in her mouth through the salon. So distasteful ! I don't care that she smokes but I don't want to see the cig in your mouth while you're inside. The stylist seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. Her hands shook and it made me feel uncomfortable. But at that point it was too late. After my color was done she put a toner on my dyed hair as well as my natural hair which lightened my natural color. I asked her about it and she said it was fine and that my natural color won't be affected. After a wash it was clear that the hair changed color ( I have med brown natural hair) now it was dark blonde. She still denied it and said it was just the light that made it seem that way and I should wait till she blow dries it. Fine. She dried my hair and I thought I was going to cry. My hair did change color, and the ends were bleach blonde!!!!but the worst part was that I had a STRAIGHT line in the back. I told her about the line and she denied it AGAIN, and claimed there was no line. We went back and forth and only after I started to lose my cool she admitted to the line and said that she will fix it by putting some highlights. At that point I didn't care what she was going to do I just didn't want to walk out with a straight line. She did my highlights and it didn't help at all. She created another straight line on top of my head now. She said that she will FIX IT AGAIN but I have to come back another day. By then it was 3:00pm ( I got there at 11am) and I was over this whole experience, I said I'm ok and decided to leave. At checkout the receptionist informed me that I should pay $165.00 and not the original $70 I was quoted. I asked for a manager and she said she was it (Mellissa-the smoker) I asked if she is really going to charge me $165 for this disaster on my head and she said yes.Maybe they should have let me know the cost before she started this whole fiasco. I would have definitely not agreed to it. Not because I mind paying but because I had a bad feeling about that place and it would be a reason for me to leave and avoid all of this. In the end I'm stuck with the most horrific ombré ( actually u can't even call it that) and I have to go to my regular stylist and try to salvage this. I am going to contact the owner and see if there is something he can do to rectify this for me, and will be updating this review. You will be better off letting a 5 year old doing your hair than waste money here. Do NOT GO HERE unless you like looking like a joke. Update : I got in touch with the other manager Lisa ( much more professional than the one I encountered during my first visit) and she offered for me to come in and get my hair fixed by Gloria. I went today and got a great color, she pretty much gave me the ombré I originally wanted. I am changing my star rating from 1 to 3 because I feel like they really fixed this for me. This was the absolute worst experience at a salon that I've ever had, ever. I only made an appointment here cause my usual place was still closed. Got a "bayalage" with Evelyn who was getting her own hair done as she was attempting to do mine AND another client (I cant even begin on how unprofessional this was). This wasn't even the worst part though cause the bleach was left on my hair so long that it caused chemical burn and I have chunks of hair missing that will take months and months to grow out. AND the horror continues...the shampoo lady went to brush my chemically burnt and wet hair and it was in such bad shape that more chunks came out. The roots weren't even touched and my hair is in such bad shape that unfortunately there is nothing that can be done but cut it and baby it until it grows some. I'm including some pictures and also one with my face blurred out of what my hair usually looks like at my usual salon so you can see the difference. And all this horror for the low low price (sarcasm here) of $385 which I was never told! No receipt, no breakdown, nothing. Please do yourself a huge favor and avoid at all costs. Let me start with saying that I need color correction because of this salon, so you know why you should read further. When I went to this salon I had dark brown virgin hair and wanted to get a light purple (lavender) partial balayage on the ends of my hair. My stylist was Mahshid. I showed her a picture of what I wanted that demonstrated a partial lavender balayage. She said she could do this and proceeded to cut my hair and dye it. When she was done, I could barely see a difference once I saw it in the sunlight. My hair was globally a dark plum color. It was as if she had not lightened my hair at all, and it certainly was not balayage. So, I explained to the hairstylist politely that I wanted the purple to be lighter and more visible like the photo I showed her. As they should, the salon let me come back for another free appointment to fix my hair and give me the style I wanted. I went back and had the "balayage" redone. When the hairstylist was done, my hair was a little closer to what I wanted, but still wrong. My hair was dark violet ombre, not lavender balayage. This means that they weren't purple highlights that blended softly into brown as you go up the hair; instead, 100% of my hair tips were dark violet that blended into brown. It has been 3 months since this happened and I have now become more educated about how hair color works. I am now seeing a very experienced hair stylist who is just starting her own business. Today I had her start to bleach my hair so I could get opal hair (a light blond color mixed with fun pastel colors). It was today, when she went to bleach my hair, that she found out that the stylist before me (from this salon) had used permanent color to lighten my hair. To both my surprise and the surprise of my new hairstylist, my hair turned orange during the bleaching process and that is how we found out. Using permanent dye to lighten your hair should NEVER be done--permanent color alters the way your hair reacts to bleach and other chemicals used to change your hair color, making it extremely difficult to change your hair color again. The EYMA stylist should have AT LEAST warned me that changing my hair color again would be an ordeal if we proceeded. In general, our communication often left me confused and I had to keep asking her questions so I couId understand what she was doing and this is one of the main reasons I never returned to this salon. I will now have to spend an extra $200 getting color correction so that I can get the new hair that I want (I am lucky that my new stylist is giving me a $150 discount on the correction because she feels bad for me). read more

I made an appointment here because it was close to our wedding venue. Even though I was disappointed the way my hair turned out (it was a simple twist with curls, but came apart in 20min - so basically $85+tip gone), I wasn't going to leave a review because what's done is done. I noticed the girls didn't get the styles they had previously showed me in pictures. So at the wedding, I asked my girls how they liked their hair. One by one they shyly told me how none of them got what they actually asked for. NONE. We were all disappointed. One girl took her hair down halfway through the wedding (it really looked awful), and the other one actually ended up redoing it herself before the wedding. Hence why I decided to leave a review. On a side note, I worked in the salon business for about 7 years so was taken aback when my stylist didn't even say "hi" or introduce herself to me. It made it very awkward and uncomfortable. I tried to strike up conversation, and in her defense, she turned out to be alright, but not greeting me at all left a sour taste in my mouth. Yes, that's right, EYMA gets five star rating from this loyal customer for years. I first met Eyal and Mossimo when they were out on Rockville Pike at David's. I moved with them as they transitioned into their new environment and friendly atmosphere on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda. I've been with Mossimo and Eyal for years now and that says a lot. I am not an easily satisfied customer when it comes to hair cuts. I am picky, but aren't we all when it comes to our hair? When I first moved to the area back, I returned home (Knoxville, TN.) driving 500 miles to get my hair cut. Fortunately, I found David's and Mossimo and Eyal and eliminated that long drive. As previously stated, I am very, very picky when it comes to my hair cuts and given the time I've been with Mossimo and Eyal I suppose this proves I am a satisfied customer. There have been the occasional times when I've not been happy with some aspect of the cut but neither of them feels threatened or dissed if I tell them. We work together to ensure it's exactly what I want. I even stop in between cuts to get my bangs trimmed at no cost. What more could a customer ask for. If you haven't been to EYMA, check it out. When heading to Eyma, I've only had Natalee at my stylist. But now that she's no longer with the salon, and the salon still has the absolute perfect color formula for my hair in their records (a combination of red, gold and my base color of brown), I decided to go back. I saw on Yelp that Didi got great reviews, so I chose her. I soon found out that she helped mentor Natalee as well. Both were very thorough in their work, and absolute perfectionists, which is HUGE for me, considering I am putting a high level of trust in them. I was not disappointed with my decision. Even though I agreed to go short when she asked me twice, it took a bit of getting used to (12 hours), but now that it has grown on me, I realize that I finally look my age! When I had long hair (below my shoulders) people would mistake me for being 22, when I am 28 and a nonprofit manager in DC. With the color of my hair and the fun, texturized, long layered, and cut with short face-framing angles, she didn't stop working on my hair until it was perfect and until I was very happy with it, I look sophisticated and professional. She started out with a conservative cut, and I couldn't believe it, but I asked her to cut it shorter and shorter! Finally, she taught me each step of how to style my new short hair, was extremely patient with all my questions, and she showed me how to make sure my shampoo doesn't strip my color so quickly. This cut and color have brought out my face and bone structure more (especially my EYES) and while I worried that my physical look would be more professional, and less hot, that is apparently not true (according to several guys in my life) :) Check out my picture to see her work. read more

Edit 2 Management was very responsive when I reached out. They replaced the hair I didn't want free of charge and gave me a few extensions on the house. The owner was involved in my second appointment. I was listened to with expectations laid out explicitly, was treated respectfully and in the end I walked away with beautiful hair. ------ Edit: I'm still very confused why this appointment went so badly when I had such a good experience the first time. I went in with some matted extensions and wanted them sorted. I told my dresser I would come back with hair (half the extensions had fallen out) at which time I wanted more of the same but less bulk. Cool she agreed. What happened was none of these things. I confirmed with her multiple times what I wanted and what we were going to do. "Ok a couple new extensions but same length and style as before right? And then I'll come back to finish properly?" "Yes." Its important it be that length because it's necessary for my job." "Yes the same." (Its not, so now I have to find another place and do this AGAIN so I can go to work.) "Dont cut the fringe I know you don't like it but I like it this way." "Ok." She cuts it. Ten minutes later I had a bob 3 inch shorter (guess I'm not sure how to eyeball inches tbh) than I wanted. There was never a discussion of a bob. I don't like bobs I didn't want a bob. Me: "This is a lot more even and shorter than we discussed." Her: "Well it's a new you." What the hell? No. This same bizarre situation repeated over and over. Finally I explicitly said "stop I dont like this" multiple times and she just kept going like everything was fine. Like... is there any situation where it's ok to keep doing something to a person when they explicitly tell you stop I don't like it? Still verbally expressing that I don't like it but being ushered out anyway I try to give the last benefit of the doubt and set up a follow up appointment in a couple days to fix this disaster at the front desk she has the nerve to go "well don't wash your hair too soon we'll see you in couple months." Seriously?????? Honestly it was pretty triggering and I cried all the way home. Still don't understand how saying I want XY and Z and then STOP I don't like this resulted in what I have. Do not recommend this place unless you're ok with having what you wanted ignored, dismissed and then charged even when you tell them to stop. read more

I have followed Sinia (or Sini) for years now and am always blown away by her work. I have gone to Sini for highlights, lowlights, color, cut and style. She has taken my natural dark brown hair and transformed it into the dirty blonde "beach babe" hair that I have always wanted. The technique she uses allows it grows out beautifully to where I can go 2-3 months without and ugly looking line of roots. She takes the time to make sure my hair stays healthy so I am able to continue to grow it out. Sinia has always listened to exactly what I want and will always give me her honest, professional advice when consulting with me. She always takes my hair to the exact perfect shade of blonde for my skin, eyes and the time of year. She also listens to exactly what I want in a haircut. I have never once felt "chopped" by her like I have with many other stylists. Every time I leave her chair I feel like I have super model hair! A little while ago I got a gift card for the wife and asked at the desk, if I could specify services so when she came in, she would get the package I picked. Of course I could, I was assured, so I told my wife that she should just go there and I already picked the services she would receive. I also confirmed that the gift card would never expire, since we were planning a longer trip out of the country but weren't quite sure when. When my wife went there, she came home very mad because instead of the spa treatments I picked, she got a haircut by someone who "accidentally" gave her a buzz cut in the front. So I went back to Eyma with her to talk to the owner. He said they would fix it, I asked for the money back. He said that was not possible, but assured that fixing it would not be a problem. How exactly do you fix hair that one of your hairdressers just cut army style in the front? He said to let it grow out and come back. We came back once it had grown out and were told that now it was too late to fix it. Seriously? Since we were about to leave the country for half a year on an extended vacation, we did not feel like arguing. I asked the owner again if we could at least use the remainder of the gift card once we returned, and was assured that this was the case. So we went on our vacation and when we came back I decided to get a massage for what was left on the gift card. So I called in beforehand, made an appointment, told the lady on the phone that I still had an old gift card and she once again assured me that their gift cards never expire and hence it was still valid (for the third time now) and they would be happy to see me. Once I got there, I handed the girl at the counter the gift card upon which she told me that it expired (mind you, these cards don't have an expiration date on them). I asked to speak to the owner who condescendingly said they would not accept the gift card anymore. Upon asking him why not, since it doesn't have an expiration date and he personally assured me that it wouldn't expire, he responded that they don't have to. Ultimately, I don't do business with people who I don't trust and based on having been lied to by the owner several times, this tells me all I need to know about this place. read more

My husband bought me a gift card for this salon for Christmas 2005, which as the owner claimed several times, NEVER expired. Happy with my gift, I first went to get a massage, which was pretty good. Then I had my hair cut done by Julie, which still gives me nightmares. She cut off a chunk of my hair to the scalp up front. I had a hole that everyone could see and spent two years needing to style my hair to the side. Naturally, I was pissed off. I immediately asked for my husband's money back telling them that I naturally never wanted to go there again and have another hole made into my hair. The owner said no. That all he would do is not charge me for the hair cut. But that he would also give me a free hair dye when I came back later. Julie didn't even apologize and the owner acted like nothing had happened. Hesitant, I waited over a year before I came back. The owner remembered me, but said that he wont give me the free hair dye anymore. I once again asked him to return the money for the gift card since it was quite a bit left on there. He said no, but that it NEVER expires, so it's not a problem. Well, today my husband goes to finally use the gift card for himself, since I wont step foot in there anymore and as the owner claimed, the card NEVER expired. Well guess what? The owner remembered my husband, but now says that the gift card was only good for one year. So that's my husband's money gone down the drain, and my hairline was never the same again. If you value your hair, DO NOT go there!!! Please. I wouldn't even send my worst enemy there. The owner is a money hungry selfish person that will take your money and rip you off. Also, all of his employees are are unhelpful and uncaring. This is supposed to be a spa/salon where you're supposed to be pampered and warmly welcomed, not disregarded like you're scum on this earth. You book a massage because you are stressed out and need an oasis of calm and quiet, for just an hour, to shut out the outside world, have someone pay attention to your needs, and work out all those uncomfortable kinks in your back. You book a massage and orchestrate your day around your appointment, arranging for your kids to be elsewhere, delaying the grocery shopping, slipping off the grid. You book at massage at Eyma and don't go anywhere else, of course, because how many appointments would book? After finding and paying for parking in Bethesda, there's nothing more you'd rather have than a massage. But Eyma doesn't care! I arrived 5 minutes early for an message with Elena, I think it was, and they tell me it will be a few minutes. i go to the bathroom and when I come back, the receptionist tells me Elena is "running late." How late, I wonder. "A few minutes." So, like 10, 15? "No 30 minutes. She'll be here at 2:30." 2:30 us 45 minutes after my appointment. No can do -- I have parking paid for the hour, kids to pick up in 1.5 hours, errands to run, dinner party to prepare for, 45 minutes is a big difference. Perhaps had they offered me a complementary service of another kind I wouldn't have been so raw. But rarely does service come so poorly. Why would I ever book at Eyma again when they are unreliable? There are so many other places for spa and salon in the area and beyond, I'd think Eyma would have to pay some attention to their service. But sigh, no. And even now, blowing off steam doesn't take that kink out and doesn't provide the sanctuary I had hoped for. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I get my hair done literally every 5-6 weeks and I travel a lot so I've had to go to multiple people over the years. I went in for a root touch up, pretty standard, and came out with a single color that is twice as dark as my usual highlights!!! So now, JUST, the top part of my head has a much darker color than the rest of my hair. I wanted this done for Greece as I leave 2 days after the appointment and my fiancé and I were having professional pictures done in Santorini and my hair looks worse than I could imagine. I'm gutted. I've never had such an experience. Roe must have spent a total of 15 minutes with me the whole 2 hours I was there. She barely looked at my hair AND I told her the color level I usually use and she went with something different anyway. I didn't have it dried there as I was heading home anyway, but when I got home I just stared at the mirror stunned. Rarely a day goes by when I don't get a compliment on my color (I swear, she's a wizard) and just today I asked her to give me a radically different haircut - ahem, bangs - and they are perfect. Got a keratin treatment here. After washing the product out my hair, the smell is absolutely disgusting...like sulfur and wet dog. I've washed repeatedly and the smell is still there. I've had numerous keratin treatments from a variety of other brands and never experienced anything like this before. I would highly recommend NOT getting a keratin treatment here. The stylist mentioned that the salon uses their own keratin product line and all I can say is...ew. So gross. I gave eyma two stars because the front desk staff was so efficient and courteous. read more

This was my first experience at this salon and I must say I am very pleased. I worked with Claudia and would highly recommend her, especially if you are looking for balyage services or some fun color. Previously I had been going to the Aveda institute, trying to save money with the students, but I never left feeling quite satisfied (and had my bangs butchered, not by a student but by an instructor who was supposedly the bang specialist)! I wanted a color update but didn't want to pay an outrageous amount (which seems to be about 500 for what I wanted), and EYMA starting prices seemed very reasonable. I went in wanting a blue/violet/silver color melt; I had about 10 photos, none of which were really the same at all, but somehow Claudia managed to pull out exactly what I wanted. Being as tho I have dark hair and needed a lot of lifting we were at the salon until very late (I closed the place up at close to 11 pm), and never once did Claudia's energy wane nor did she show any frustration, (I myself personally would've been frustrated if I were her). There were 2 other employees that stayed late who were also great and patient. I don't know their names but THANK YOU! I LOVE my color, and depending on the lighting it looks different. There was also a young lady that came in for a quick service that had come to claudia with green hair and now has beautiful silver blonde hair and after chatting with her I felt as tho I was in very capable hands. Avoid. First I went to Denise for highlights and she, without telling me, used hair dye with the highlights and turned my hair orange/red. She can't do highlights or color. Then, I went to the owner, Massimo. When I was in the changing room, he was right outside and said, "make her wait, I'm busy" about me. When he finally did come to work on my hair he spent the entire time talking about his new "non-formaldehyde relaxer" product and new business. He's obviously not interested in doing hair any more. Price is outrageous. read more

Jackie is amazing. I went to EYMA after a traumatic hair experience. Jackie not only worked with me for hours at an incredibly reasonable rate, she also made sure I was comfortable, relaxed, etc. her comforting manner was just the thing I needed to calm me down. My hair was a big challenge to fix without damaging further, but Jackie is a true professional and I walked out of there looking so much better. I have one more appointment for last minute touch ups next week, and I am looking forward to it. I have gone to Eyma for years along with my mother. Massimo has always treated us well and and provided us with great service. My mother and I both looked forward to our visits there. I went just yesterday to have my hair relaxed and they do the best job in town. No toxic smells and Massismo will adjust the treatment to the type of hair you have and the look you want. So I went here first when it was just changing it's name from David's to Eyma. Well, the first time I went, I was just getting highlights from Allison. She was great! haha, fun to talk to and made you feel comfortable. Well, the highlights I was hapy with, but what made it great was that they looked better over time...everyday, my hair looked better, which is always great. Well the reason for the 3 star is probably due to the hair stylist. I went this past weekend to get my hair cut and the roots touched up from the last highlighting session...maybe it just needs to grow out...I dunno. But for 250 bucks, im expected something a whole lot better. If you go, just ask for one of the main stylist i guess. I like that its not so frou frou, haha, the stylist really listen to you and Mario I think is my favorite person in the world...go just to talk to him~ haha. read more

EYMA is a fabulous Hair Sain in Bethesda. Quality Hair experts and I am very selective with hair salons & stylists; Eyal gives the best haircuts & hair treatments. My hair is in excellent condition now. Everyone in the salon is friendly & helpful. Rosa is my favorite nail person; she spends time doing a great job & pampers the nails Joanne is a superb Esthician from Dublin , Ireland. Her facial will improve your skin & I fall asleep it is so relaxing. You do not need a therapist or wine when you leave EYMA, you will be relaxed, recharged & look great!!!!!! read more

Not The greatest experience here. Got my roots touched up and yes my hair turned out nicely which is what it most important so that gets them the extra star but that's where it ends. I told my hair stylist I had to be out by a certain time she assured me that would be fine but of course it didnt happen. I told them to be careful applying the color to my hair BC my skin burns easily they weren't. I asked them to dye my eye brows to match they didn't. read more

Gloria at EYMA is wonderful! I got a very layered haircut a few months ago that I didn't love, and need to start growing my hair out for my wedding this fall. I explained exactly how I wanted it fixed and Gloria did an awesome job. I would happily see her again! read more
