First time at Cera- I called ahead of time and they were able to fit me in for a bikini and lip wax the same day which was great because I'm such a chicken and hate getting anything waxed, so when I get brave, I can't wait. Tatiana was fantastic and put me at ease. I told her how sensitive my skin is and she suggested using the hard wax which adheres just to the hair and not to the skin. She was quick and there was minimal pain and irritation. I will definitely be back. Plus it was great to meet another Texas girl! A couple notes- parking is on the street so depending on how busy it is around Bethesda at the time you may have to hunt for a bit. Also, the entrance is right across the street from Grapeseed Bistro and next to Smoke BBQ. It's a little bit hard to find, but the number is over the door is very big, so just look for the address on the building and you'll be fine. Also, the actual studio is very clean. It's less spa like, but I didn't mind. It's more about efficiency and I appreciate that. They do offer water (still or sparkling) or soft drinks and they play great music which helps take your mind off things as they're ripping hair off your body. read more

Still LOVE Cera, almost two years later! Tried to make an appt with Tatiana a few weeks ago (but she is on maternity leave. Congratulations, Tatiana! So happy for her!) so I made an appt with Camella. It was my second time with Camella and she is fantastic, too! I LOVE talking to her and she makes an awkward service, comfortable. Not only that, I was caught in the flood that's been taking place on Wisconsin (in front of NIH) for the last week (last time I checked) and Camella STILL saw me, even though I was 10 minutes late. She told me that we might have to stop as soon as the next client arrived but she was efficient and I was in and out before her next client so there was not an issue, despite my nervousness that I would not be able to receive my service due to my late arrival. Cera continues to go above and beyond for their customers and I will continue to drive 30+ miles to visit this establishment. Top notch! Go to Cera! Cera Wax Studio has to be the hands down best waxing experience I have had, ever!! It was my first wax with co-owner Monica and her immediate presence upon meeting her was friendly, calming, inviting, professional and relaxing. I just recently moved to the area from FL where, waxing goes hand in hand with breathing, so there is never a shortage of studios. Upon my arrival to the MD area, I found that there was no such thing or maybe, literally only a handful (not even) of places solely dedicated to just waxing. I spent a few days online, doing some research and looking for reviews on places that came up on Groupon (nightmare stories) and links other readers mentioned. All other places had websites that were unprofessional, horror stories and not such confident reviews in the ones that didn't end up in a painful outcome. They also were not studios dedicated just to waxing. Thank goodness a reviewer mention Cera Wax and after visiting the site and reading the reviews, I knew this was going to be the place for me. The studio has amazing location that's very easy to find and upon entering when those elevator doors open, it's like wow! The decor is so beautiful, it's cozy, yet chic and makes you feel at home, like you want to hang out there. There's great music playing in the background, it's clean, it smells great and has a beautiful display of some really great quality products. Monica greeted me in such a welcoming way, that mad me feel like I'd been coming there for years. She explained to me every step of the way, what she was doing and why she was doing it, which put me at ease, given that my last wax ended up in a painful, tearful nightmare. It was painless, she was through and we had some good laughs throughout. The chair was comfortable, the colors of the rooms were soothing and most important of all SHE NEVER DOUBLE DIPS and that says a lot about a place. They are willing to go the extra mile and invest a little more in dip sticks, for the health and safety of their clients, rather than trying to save a buck. After my wax, Monica took all the information I had given her about my skin and mad some recommendations of what I could do naturally and use product wise to help ease my skin before and after future waxes. Never was she once pushy on products and the at home care advice she gave was amazing. Although I didn't get a chance to meet the receptionist Veronica, she did call the next day to find out how my wax went, if I was happy with my services and if there was anything else I need, just call or email. Now that's great customer service. Clearly after this extended review (lol), I am over the moon happy with Cera Wax studio and I'm definitely going to be a long term returning client. I am so overdue to write this review. During my last vixen (their barest Brazilian)I looked at Monica and said "Has anyone ever told you that you are REALLY good at this??? Nevermind, I'll tell the internet instead." I've seen a few other waxers at Cera for Brazilians and they do a good job. But Monica is some sort of voodoo magic sorceress that makes the process as painless as it can be. Yes, it's still someone pulling the hair out of your hoo - but she really is one of the best out there. Go to her. Be with her. And then ask her about her giant dog. The customer service is always great, they respond quickly, and even do a courtesy follow up after services. There are plenty of closer DC options for me, but Cera and Monica are TOTALLY worth the trip in my opinion. read more

I love Cera. The staff is incredibly friendly, and all around good people. They are great about sending appointment reminders 24 hours before your scheduled appointment, and also send follow up e-mails 24 hours after your visit. I do the Vixen maintenance which is $55 every 3-4 weeks. I've been doing this for a few months, and in my opinion, feel the brazilian is painless. Like a 0-1 on a pain scale of 10. The hard wax they use minimizes the pain and trauma to the area, so I love that. They are very efficient, and get you in and out in about 25 minutes, and are incredibly respectful of your appointment time. Love this place, never going anywhere else. read more

First time customer. Everyone was professional, prompt, and courteous. I was offered water and a choice of music genres while receiving my services. My esthetician, Melissa, was courteous and caring. I will definitely return and share my positive experience with others. Also, make sure you give yourself time to locate the building. I walked right past it. Metered parking was easily available. They also tell you ahead of time that the elevator is a bit slow. Factor these things in when heading out to your appointment. Had to go back and edit my review to state that I received a follow up call the next day, since I was a first time customer, to make sure I wasn't experiencing any problems and whether I had any additional questions or concerns. At first I loved this place; they were super nice and professional. I had gone there a few times and was panning on going again. They give you a discounted rate if you come back within 4 weeks of the last appointment. When I called to schedule my next appointment it fell over the fourth of July weekend so I asked if I could do it on Monday or Tuesday (this would put me 1-2 days outside the 4 weeks). They told me that even though it was a holiday weekend and I would only be a day or two outside the four weeks they were going to charge me the higher price. I said this was a bit unfair and the woman on the phone interrupted me and said basically "well that's too bad". I said that I would be taking my business elsewhere if they were not willing to be flexible with a repeat customer and was once again rudely interrupted by the receptionist who said, "Alright, thanks! Bye!" and hung up before I could even finish my sentence or respond. Clearly they do not care about retaining customers and were very rude to me. I will not be going back. What a fantastic place, I only wish I'd gone here sooner! You definitely have to make an appointment here, but I was able to call on Monday and get a Tuesday appointment. The studio was a little hard to find, while driving, only because the sign is on glass and I was looking for parking, but there aren't many three floor building on the street, so once I parked it was very easy to find. They were super nice when I showed up for my appointment, 15 minutes early, and after filling out first time paperwork my aesthetician was ready for me. I told her I was a little terrified since I'd never been waxed before, she was very nice and assured me everything would be fine. She explained what she would be doing and said she would talk me through the whole thing. The she saw the tattoo on my foot and promised it wouldn't be nearly as painful as that. She was completely correct. I don't know why I psyched myself out, the 'pain' wasn't bad at all. Obviously I felt it, but pain isn't really how is describe it. She was efficient and friendly, making easy conversation. She recommended a sugar scrub and some essential oils, only because I told I didn't have any, and at the end of the appointment she showed me the recommended products. I didn't feel pressured to buy, but I did get one of them. It was a lovely experience. The studio is clean and quiet and everyone I encountered was friendly and super nice. read more

I cheated on my old place and went here for the first time today, solely based on yelp reviews. My experience was amazing all around! I've been going to a salon that uses "chocolate wax" and I've tried sugaring. I consider myself to have a decent threshold for pain, so while it was never painless, it was tolerable. However; after today, I will never let anyone go near me with strips again! I barely flinched during my wax with Kim (and I was overdue so I was prepared for pain)!!! I am sold! I made my next appointment before I left! In addition to having a great wax experience, the staff was amazing! Everyone was so friendly and attentive! Dear Cera Wax Studio, You are my fave wax place ever!!!! I usually come here for my Brazilian waxes and this place runs like a well oiled machine. Parking is a pain, so I would suggest adding additional time to your commute. So the actual waxing is NOT pain free but this is by far the LEAST painful waxing process I have experienced to date. My waxer was Nicole and she was the bomb. She talked me through the entire process and gave me tips on maintenance for the Brazilian. Nicole has since left Cera Wax and I have now been working with Jasmine. Every time I visit Jasmine I feel like I am talking to an old friend. I LOVE this studio! I almost didn't want to write a review because I'm afraid that too many women in the city will catch on and it will be impossible to get an appointment. Not only did they get me in last minute before my beach vacation, but the ladies there were super friendly and accommodating. Veronica was amazing and super sweet to boot! She asked me if I had ever had a wax before and asked if I had any questions beforehand. The actual waxing was the LEAST painful experience I've ever had. I have a decent pain tolerance, but I almost didn't feel this at all. Cera's uses a hard wax, so no cloth strips. We had a great conversations and a few laughs, and I left feeling like I had just had coffee with my best girlfriends, not a wax... Aside from the awesome women who own and run this place, they DO NOT double dip, which is beyond impossible to find at even some of the higher end salons in the DC area. I highly recommend this place - the atmosphere is easy going, Monica and Veronica are amazing, and the place is CLEAN! Also, the prices are pretty average comparable to other places I've been. I found out about this waxing studio through my sister who is a review reading queen. I have never heard of a studio that specializes in waxing only. So this peaked my interest. I was going to your regular nail and spa salons that use that hot wax that burns like crazy and feels like your skin is coming off when they pull the strip. I had a bad experience to say the least. Moving forward, made my appointment for the waxing (chin, lip and underarms). I was honestly prepared with my Motrin 800. When I arrived, I was very nervous to the point I began to sweat just thinking of the pain I will have to endure. The receptionist was nice and welcoming and offered me refreshments. She informed me Tatiana would be rendering the service I requested. Tatiana came out, bubbly, very welcoming and so nice. Her eyebrows were simply breath taking. She must have noticed the fear in me and just began to reassure me that I would be fine and it would be painless. She explained thoroughly what she was doing, the products, the difference between hard wax and the standard wax most salons use. I was very impressed. She also provided nice conversation I guess to keep my mind off of the waxing. I don't think I was in there 15 minutes and she was done. I was floored in amazement! My skin was a little red but it was soft. Her attention to detail was superb! She tweezed which also did not hurt the little hairs that were left. I am use to my skin being red like a rug burn after waxing with a little peeling but this was not the case. She offered me refreshments as well after my treatment and asked how I felt. I was speechless and still am. Tatiana you are amazing! Just because you gave me a whole new experience with waxing, you have convinced me to get the "good girl" plus I am going to get my legs waxed as long as you are the one to provide my service. Visiting Imé for my monthly brow and vixen is always the highlight of my month. She really gets my brows, and when I ask her to tweak the shape slightly, she always nails it. Love her and also that she makes me feel more beautiful and upbeat than when I walked in the door. The space is super clean and welcoming. As soon as you enter, you're greeted with a smile and offered a drink while you wait. Take a second to freshen up in the bathroom because they have you covered, and don't forget to grab a chocolate or bag of nuts on the way out. I'm a snob about appointment booking systems but it has always been a breeze at Cera. Ask them about their discounts! The only reason I'm removing a star is because it is a bit pricier than most other places I've gone too (and maybe that's because fantastic beauty salons where i used to live are a dime a dozen), but I definitely try to stagger appointments where I can to save some $$. Everyone is super nice, and it feels like a cross between a spa and a lounge. Tatiana did a great job with my waxing and gave me lots of advice for follow up care to keep my skin looking and feeling good. She also insisted on giving me some trail mix, a Lindt truffle, and some San Pellegrino to take with me when I left. :) I've walked by this place a million times and never noticed it - the door is to the left of the stairs up to Brickside. First timer at this place and loved it. Monica (the owner) did my Brazilian wax. She was great! She made me feel very comfortable. She used hard wax which I love and new sticks for each dip. It is a bit pricey but worth it for the comfort and cleanliness. If you come back every 3-4 weeks it's $10 off. And if you refer your friends, you and your friend will get a discount. Love this place. They're very welcoming from the moment you step out of the elevator. This place is clean and relaxing (as relaxing as a wax can get). Jeanette is hands down the best waxer I've ever had. She's very attentive and always does a great job. Highly recommend this place. I've been going to Cera since they opened a few years ago and refuse to go anywhere else. This might sound extreme to some but in the past year and a half I've moved from Bethesda to Arlington and I still make the 30+ minute trip to see Monica for my waxing. I've had a few other ladies when my schedule doesn't line up with Monica's and have never once had a bad experience. I personally enjoy the peaceful 30 second (it's really not that long) of an elevator ride where my phone isn't working for a brief moment in time. I went in a bit skeptical because everyone here was writing how it is absolutely painless so obviously my thought process is either these people are trying to act like tough guys or this place is the real deal. Let me tell you, it is the REAL DEAL. Went here for a brazilian last week and the entire process was painless and so comfortable. Their process is a bit more detailed then most places and they incentive you to come back every 4-weeks by offering $10 off the usual price. It's so worth it. Obsessed. Last month, I read the reviews for most of the wax studios in the area and settled on Cera. It was my first time getting a brazilian, so I was nervous and a little anxious, but the friendly staff and the inviting atmosphere alleviated most of my concerns. My waxer, Kimberly, was particularly attentive to my fears and talked me through the whole thing before she got started, and she continued chatting with me during the waxing to keep me distracted. However, I hardly needed it-- the wax itself was relatively painless! I was so pleasantly surprised by how easy the whole thing was. I returned today for my second wax and am 100% hooked. I particularly recommend Jeanette and Deja. The strip-less waxing technique used at Cera has changed my skin and I truly feel it is a much more effective, more long lasting, and less painful method. I got my first ever Brazilian wax done at the new Falls Church location with Courtney, & it couldn't have gone any better! The building and room that I was in were all really clean, & they also followed COVID guidelines. The person at the front desk was friendly, as was Courtney! I went into it super nervous, but she talked to me the whole time, & she even helped me pick out one of the exfoliating products they had for sale. I've never gotten a wax done before, but the cost seemed pretty reasonable to me! Definitely recommending Cera (especially Courtney) to some of my friends who are interested. read more

I hesitate to write this review, because I just want to forget this whole thing. I was completely humiliated by my experience with Cera. I walked in yesterday before an appointment nearby, and asked if they had any walk ins (a coworker recommended them over the new European wax place). Since they didn't have an appointment available, they scheduled me for the next day. They let me take care of the paperwork then so I wouldn't have to do it the next day. Today, I parked right outside the door, but was one minute late, it was exactly 3:46 when I parked, and I had a 3:45. I had to stop my meter paying process on my phone to answer a call. It was Cera saying I was late, I said I was so sorry, but that I was literally outside the door. This person then proceeded to put me on hold, a solid minute later another person comes on the line and says that I would need to be there within one minute because there is another appointment right after mine. Well great, I would have already been inside, but I have to end this call to pay my meter! I get to the front desk and there are two receptionists and one esthetician telling me I am now five minutes into my fifteen minute appointment and they need the whole time to do my brows. I was apologetic about being late; told them I did my best to get there on time, but that I was astounded at how I was being treated. The esthetician said that she could take me back and we could see how far we get on my brows, but I said I wasn't interested. All of this was witnessed by another client who was called back as I was leaving, I assume she had a 4:00. It doesn't make sense that this is their practice, since this other woman was there, couldn't they have taken her and I could have just swapped times? I get that they shouldn't have to rearrange schedules based on someone running late, but it would have been a better solution than humiliating me. I work in customer service, and I always try to be flexible, and certainly have never had someone in tears. I encourage Cera to reexamine their customer service practices. I'm disappointed this didn't work out for me, as I'm sure their wax service would have been good. In response to the co-owners comment. Your manager who reached out to me was the person who confronted me at the front desk when I came in. I am not interested in communicating with or interacting with her further. read more

I've been going to Cera Wax Studio since it opened! I haven't found a better place. Monica does such a great job and she trains her estheticians exactly the same so you will have the same experience every time. She has mastered the perfect Brazilian wax so that it is as painless as possible. I recommend this place to EVERYONE. The front desk staff is so sweet and greets me every time with a smile and asks if I want a beverage and what type of music I want to listen to in the treatment room. The entire studio is so clean and lovely and they have an awesome selection of body scrubs and other post wax care. Absolutely love this place! After years of going to a regular nail salon to get a Brazilian, I tried Cera one day bc it is walking distance to my office and have never gone back to a nail salon for a wax....it's a little more expensive but the experience made it 200% worth it. Sugar wax hurts less than regular wax (in my opinion), it's quiet and calm with nice music. Everyone there is so professional and nice. It took forever, didn't remove all of my hair, and the after care was so poor my skin was SUPER sticky and irritated afterward (something my skin does not usually do). I broke out into a rash and had a lot of ingrown hairs afterward (also unusual for me). The HIGH cost was not worth the sub-par waxing job I received. read more
