I just ordered my second pair of glasses from Dr. Mallari's office. This time I am getting prescription sunglasses for the golf course. They have a nice selection of frames and even accepted my insurance (VSP). The office staff is professional and friendly. Dr. Mallari is friendly and likable. I was introduced to Darlyne H. Fujimoto, Optometrist & Associates years ago after my sister changed doctors for her and our mom. I met their doctor, Dr. Mallari, and I was very impressed with her. She is very personable and has the ability to make you feel at ease, obviously very knowledgeable, and is very thorough in describing everything from your test results to diet and vitamin recommendations to aid in eye health (the kind of extra helpful info I don't recall ever receiving elsewhere) because she genuinely cares about your vision and the health of your eyes. I especially appreciated how patient and caring she was with my very elderly mother. I can tell you, adult children who are care givers for their elderly parents definitely notice this kind of thing. So when the time came when I needed new glasses I didn't go back to my previous optometrist. I made an appointment with Dr. Mallari. Under her care I always receive great service and I've depended on her expertise ever since. Also, I found Mary, Betty, and the rest of the staff very professional and helpful, and very patient in helping me choose new frames. I don't know about you but I need plenty of time in choosing new frames. I have to be sure with my final choice since I'll be wearing them every day. I have been bringing my son when he was 6 and his pediatrician recommended his eyes checked up. I took him to Costco first be I was not satisfied as the doctor did not take his time examining him fully. Then I found Cerritos 2020 on Yelp and visited Dr. Fernando here. Dr. Fernando took her time to thoroughly checking his eyes and boy what a difference from the prescription received from Costco. I was very happy to see how my son is now doing in school as he can see everything crystal clear. I also did my eyes checkup with Dr. Fernando and I'm setting my wife and my other kid for their eyes check up. The thing I like best about this place and Dr. Fernando is that she will go above and beyond her call of duty to accommodate her patient's needs. This place is very organized! Dr. Khamis was the eye doctor that attended to me. He's a young guy with a very great sense of humor. It was like every other sentence was something funny. He's a very nice, personable, and friendly doctor who educates you about the eye as the appointment goes. He also has really cool ties with glasses on them. Lol. The opticians are very knowledgeable and helpful as well. There is a wide selection of frames. It doesn't feel like they're trying to make money off of you. The doctor even said to me, "Will you be looking at frames today? Oh, sorry to assume if you'll be getting them here." The place looks very updated and new. Dr. Mallari was great! I've probably visited the eye doctor twice throughout my life before this so I wasn't sure what to expect. She was extremely kind and very informative. She walked me through each process and explained what I was looking at and why my eyes acted a certain way. It was nice to walk out of there with a better understanding of my visual health (if that's the correct term). Also, because I don't really get my eyes checked I was a little apprehensive about the thought of someone poking at it. Have you guys ever watch that Friends episode of Rachel's eye exam? Well, I would be Rachel. Luckily, Dr. Mallari was very careful and her outgoing personality put me at ease. As for the rest of the staff, they were just as great. The first half of the appointment I was with Donna, who, by the way, got my reference to Friends. She was really nice too. The machines they use here are way more updated then the ones I remember. Granted I only had two eye exams before this, the last exam I had was just last year so hopefully that justifies this comparison. Ernest was super great too! When I had to pick out my glasses he was really nice, patient, and had a keen eye for what would be a good fit for my face. I was a little overwhelmed when I saw all the selection, but he knew exactly what would look great. And as a side thought, it was nice to finally have a man be patient as you shop! Haha. I never felt rushed at all, even as other patients came in to see him. All in all, it was was a great experience. This is probably the only doctors exam that I throughly enjoyed. Every other patient who walked in seemed like they were long time friends with the staff, and I can see just why. I highly recommend going here. read more

I've been coming here for years, over the years noticed their service was going down the tube or maybe I am not one of their favorites...notice some people get better service. Had an appointment to pick up and fit glasses was a few minutes late and staff did not want to see me and there was no one waiting in the waiting area. I would understand if they were full. Well I thought I used to go to the best optometrist in Torrance and when I moved I still drove all the way out there. BUT THEN, someone recommended Dr. Fernando and I never looked back. My husband and I first went to this office five years ago when Dr. Darlyn Fugimotto was still practicing and at that point we fell in love with our optometrist and the staff. Before Dr. Fugimotto retire she recommended Dr. Fernando for our future visits. Dr. Fernando is a great doctor. She is very passionate about her job and her patients. She takes her time to explain step by step of procedures she does while you are in her office. We enjoy going to Cerritos 2020. I can't say I've ever had a better experience with an optometrist than here at Cerritos 2020 today. Dr Khamis treated me, and I discovered that he is brand new to the group as of the last couple weeks. I received excellent service, from the moment I stepped into the door, and couldn't be more grateful for everyone's kindness! The office space is clean and neat and organized, and the relaxing scent of diffused essential oils fills the place. I thought that was a particularly awesome detail. Ernest helped me with picking frames and giving me insurance and financial advice; he was fun, personable, and relatable. I did not feel pressured into giving them more money, but truly felt like my needs were first. Dr Khamis was amazing! I've never had a more thorough and educational exam. He literally walked me through every step, helping me understand what each exam was for and what it meant and how my vision and brain work together. He's humorous, easy to talk to, and incredibly helpful. We even chatted about his upcoming wedding and how he and my husband agree that glasses are hot on their ladies, apparently. :P I'm glad I followed the reviews here on Yelp because they certainly represent my experience: 5 stars. I have only needed glasses in the last 10 years or so and have tried many different optometrist, even Costco. This time around I couldn't ignore the 5 star rating on Yelp and had to give Cerritos 2020 Optometry a try. Called to book my appointment and was greeted with a warm and friendly voice and they booked me for the upcoming Saturday. Even received a call and text the day before my appointment as a reminder. On the day of the appointment I expected to have to fill out a bunch of forms and a long delay before being called. There were only 2 forms and I was called immediately after turning in the forms. Of the three Optometrist that work there, I was assigned to Dr. Sharon Mallari. Everything was explained to me in great detail. From the images of my retinas all the way down to screen filters for my PC and Iphone to help with my vision. The exam went smooth with information being provided to me every step of the way. I have to say, my exam took at least 2 times longer than other exams I have ever had and this is a positive, not a negative, because she took all the time needed to answer any of my concerns. Never once looking up at a clock or her watch. Very good selection of frames from price point all the way up to designer. Amazing experience and I will definitely be going back again. read more

I went to this optometrist based on the 5 star reviews on yelp. While Dr. Fernando is really very great and kind, I'm shocked by all the up sell not only on contacts and glasses but on exams and contact fittings. I've been wearing contacts ever since I was in middle school (now in my 30s) and I have never paid anything more for a contact "fitting". I paid $102 (only after my insurance deducted 15% off since it was originally $120) JUST for my contact fitting, which mind you, was after my initial copay for the exam. The office kept saying my insurance changed because just last year I was fitted and had my annual exam at another office all for one small copay fee. I didn't have to pay another $102 to see if my contacts "fit well". (Which is wrong because I called my insurance company and they said nothing changed in my policy but that each office can charge whatever they want on a fitting. Even my insurer scoffed at the high price!). Had I been told upfront what the cost would be, I would have not come back for my fitting and just taken my insurance elsewhere. But only after the exam was done was I told of the bill. Not only that, I waited for my contact lenses "fitting" for a month! I'm trying to switch to daily contacts, from monthlys, and no one was calling me or contacting me about the status of my contacts. (I have high astigmatism). I was using one month contacts well past their expiration date. After waiting and waiting I messaged the business finally to inquire about my contacts and they messaged me saying I had not visited the office for over a year! Say what????? So then I had to call and they said oh, we must have gotten your name wrong. They said they thought I had "said" a different last name when I WROTE it clearly in the message. Anyways. I asked if my dad could pick up some spare contacts for me (because I was far away) while I waited for my other trial contacts to come. They said yes, so I sent my dad, and then he called me from the office saying they could not allow him to pick them up. Then he left the office annoyed that I had sent him on a pointless run. So I called again and they said that I had to come in to get the contacts "fitted" or it would be "dangerous" if I didn't have the right fit. (Since when did soft contacts become dangerous?) Then I explained the situation for the millionth time again (why don't their receptionists communicate with each other?) and Dr. Fernando allowed my dad to pick them up but he had already left the office by then and was too far away to pick it up! So I finally went in today after over a month after my initial visit to get my contacts and get it "fitted" (aka see how it looks while in my eye) and that's when they told me how much my copay would be for the contact exam. While Dr. Fernando is very sweet, and did enlighten me on prescription policies (I never knew your prescription differed from contact brands and that you needed an exact contact brand to go with your prescription) go somewhere else for your exams, inquire first about pricing anywhere you go (health eye exam vs. contact lens fitting exam), get your prescription and go to Costco to buy your contacts or glasses because the pricing is insane. I didn't pay more than $60 last year for my contact lenses at Costco (one year supply, high astigmatism) with my insurance (vsp) and a bunch of coupons they found. All hail Costco, the King. I overhead another lady being charged over $600 for contact lenses, even with her insurance. C'mon! Anyways. I still have to go back for my last "fitting" (I've never gone to the optometrist so much). They state the last visit is complimentary. Um.....Thanks. Thanks a lot. Edit: Dr. Fernando did reach out to me personally and apologize as well as let me know that she had refunded my insurance. Basically she wished me well and told me I can go to another optometrist. It was a little frustrating to hear this as I had to restart the entire process over again, but at least I got a refund? read more

Cerritos 20/20 Optometry is the best! The entire team is so welcoming and thorough through each step of the process. Every time I visit they explain what they're doing, why they're doing it and provide tips to help me take better care of my eyes on a daily basis. Dr. Mallari knows her stuff and provides information in a clear way, taking her time to make sure you understand and feel comfortable. She's detail-oriented and invites questions from her patients (such a blessing to have supportive healthcare providers)! Ernest and Alicia were both super helpful during my last visit... they helped me select glasses that fit my needs and were incredibly patient with my indecisiveness :) My husband has also become a happy patient of theirs and I plan to schedule appointments for our children very soon so that they can start establishing healthy eye care habits too. Dr. Mallari is awesome and holds a special place in my heart. =] You get a whole hour of her time where she will go through a very thorough exam, and will actually discuss what exactly she is looking for and what she sees while you go through the various contraptions. She'll tell you what to look out for, and give little tips on eye health and ways you can keep your vision in tip top shape. Even during that awkward time when you're really trying your hardest to choose between 1 and 2, Dr. Mallari walks you right through and makes the selection easy. I've been seeing Dr. Mallari for a few years now for my annual eye exam and she is just amazing. She takes time to get to know you and teach you about your eyes. The last time i went i had to go at the end of the day because of work and even though i was her last patient of the day she made me feel like i was her first. She took time with me and didn't rush because it was the end of the day. It's very rare to find a doctor that genuinely cares. And even though she did recommend glasses to wear for computer use she didn't try to sell me on anything. I love the office and i love Dr. Mallari, i highly recommend her! read more

I had a good experience at this place. The optometrist was patient, kind, knowledgeable, and informative. The front office lady that helped me with frames gave me a similar experience. I just found it odd that I was scheduled for an appointment without my knowledge. I finally went around to listening to my voicemail and noticed I received a few messages from the office asking to confirm my appointment. I thought to myself what appointment? Well anyway it was after the day/time mentioned in the voicemail. Then I got a letter saying there's a $30 cancellation fee which will be waved this first time? For an appointment I never made? And besides if I never called back to confirm my appointment, that should've clued them in that I will not be making it. Oh well, there's dozens on optometrists in a 10 mile radius. Now if I somehow forgot about an appointment that was scheduled at my last visit 5 months ago(early December '15) then I apologize for the 3 stars.
