We had a heavy rainstorm on Thursday afternoon that resulted in water coming into our fireplace and through the stone facade around the fireplace. I called Paul and within 45 minutes he and a crew of 2 men were at my door. Paul came in to see what was occurring then went up on the roof to investigate. He found a large crack in the concrete chimney cap that was allowing rain to penetrate and flow down the outside of the firebox and down to the hearth. There was no roof leak at all. I call Cert-a-roof last week after the rains started and my ceiling was leaking. I scheduled an appointment for Them to come look at my roof and see where the leak is and I obviously need to get something repaired and probably an entire section of my roof re-done. I received an email confirmation and have been patiently waiting through all the rain this week. Almost a week later, after DAYS of rain, living with a tarp on my floor, moving furniture, and waiting for Monday, they call to cancel. I received a call today, a few days before the appointment, that we are out of their service area and it wouldn't be cost effective for them to come. First of all, this is extremely unprofessional....even a little restaurant or pizza place would determine if you are in their delivery area. They had my address at the time I made the appointment and it was included on my confirmation email. This would seem like a basic business practice to see if I am in their area and at the very least I would expect a call immediately to cancel and not after almost a week of waiting. At this point, I thought I had an appointment and someone would be able to repair my roof soon. If I had known they wouldn't do so I would have been calling other companies during this week if downpour. I feel that this is their fault/oversight and they should have honored the appointment and done some staff training for whomever answers the phone. Instead, the report deny a certification (which I wasn't asking) Unless they perform the repair/replace broken tiles in excess of $50,000.00 an over inflated price. Even though John promised they can do underlayment certification, however, Ev refuses and kept talking in circles.. Paul Watrous, the VP of Operations and the son of Les (who's the owner of Cert-A-Roof) emailed my mom on 2/21/20 based on my below Yelp review. He reached out to my mom (only because he still had her contact information on file) sticking to his guns, trying to save face and telling my mom that my below review was "slanderous," while pointing out how he arrived on time and didn't even charge us. All of the other roofing companies we consulted with didn't charge for an estimate. Again, he's trying to "spin" things like he's doing us a favor. He also stated in this email "...I indicated that you would need a complete re-felt and if you were not financially prepared for that then to invest as little money as possible with repairs..." Never once did he say this to us. He told us that any patch job repairs we'd do would just be a waste of money. Period. This company is not honest at all. And being the VP of Operations and the son of the owner, I can only assume he wants to exceed his quarterly goals by scoring the big ticket jobs where his men could get in the most billable hours in as possible. I felt compelled to write the below review because out of the 6 total roof estimates we got, Cert-A-Roof was the ONLY company that said we'd need an entire new roof. And the ironic thing is that Paul didn't even go up on the roof to look around like the other contractors did! He didn't get out his ladder and physically walk on the roof at all, whereas the other contractors did. He probably saw dollar signs when 2 women answered the door (neither of us wearing a wedding band). And I could tell that he was lying based on his body language alone (e.g., "...yeah, you guys really, really need a whole new roof..." while nodding his head the entire time, followed by an awkward pause lasting several seconds while still trying to maintain eye contact, etc). This isn't like going to get your tires rotated and being told you need new ones, when really you could get a few more thousand miles out of them. Seven years ago we had a section of our roof repaired by Cert-A-Roof due to leaks. Paul did the initial inspection and oversaw the project. I remember being very impressed with Paul's gracious manner, thorough explanations, and overall professionalism. So, when we had another leak in a different section of the house recently, I decided to call Cert-A-Roof again. This time Ev came out, did the inspection, and we concluded that it would be best to do a complete reroofing of the areas not done seven year ago. It turned out that there was much damage to the wood under the tiles from water leakage due to both cracked and incorrectly laid tiles as well as from termites. About 330 feet of wood boards and 350 concrete tiles had to be replaced. It turned out to be a much bigger job than I had anticipated. But throughout the entire process the men worked hard and diligently, and Ev came by several times to check on the work. At the end, Ev did a final inspection, showed me the pictures he took of the roof, and answered all my questions. He told me he had discovered three cracked tiles that he will send someone out to replace. Again, I was greatly impressed by his thoroughness, integrity, expertise, and professionalism. We called NRCIA in the middle of our re-roofing project because things were not going well and we were catching mistakes (wrong material, bubbles, open untorched areas, etc.). We have used Cert A Roof to repair two different leaks in our Spanish tile roof over the past 5 years. They are well trained and experienced in locating and repairing leaks. They make a thorough inspection of the entire roof and provide photos and a detailed report of their inspection (they charged $99 for this but if you hire them, it's applied to the final repair cost). They are not the least expensive company around but I'm confident they know their business and I've never had an issue with their work. The roof of the house I was purchasing was very old, so I asked three roof contractors to inspect the roof when it was in escrow, but Cert-A-Roof's inspection was much more accurate and thorough than others and their report included all the details I needed to know. Due to the age of the roof and the significant issues with the roof, Paul recommended replacing the whole roof after closing the escrow instead of wasting a lot of money on repairing it. Paul was very flexible in scheduling the work. For several reasons, I had to reschedule the work and every time Paul would kindly accept to change the date without complaining.
