I had only ever had Cha Ba Thai delivered for office parties, because it's so close to work, but every time, they always got our team's orders right and included enough utensils and napkins for everyone. Last week, I dined in for the first time, and had a pretty good experience. The waitress seemed a little like she was in a rush, and borderline pushy, but the other waitress that would come by was a lot nicer and helpful. I got the Khao Soi, and it was pretty good, compared to others I've had around town. I love Khao Soi, and have been trying to find a place that serves it. The noodles were chewy, broth was hearty and creamy, and the crunchy noodles on top were great. The portion was so big, I couldn't finish! We also tried the cashew chicken for my mom, who isn't too adventurous with food, and it was better than I expected; not too salty, had a good amount of vegetables and chicken, and came with rice to balance the dish out. read more

Driving down Sandy and decided to stop in. I had the cashew chicken, I love sweet chili paste, I'd was delicious. Wife had the pad Thai w/ beef, she ordered it medium spicy and it was a little too much but she enjoyed it and the flavor was good. She's was sweaty after that. We agreed to go mild next time. Great Thai food at even better prices. Loved their chicken lettuce wrap appetizer. The panang curry, chicken cashew stir fry and kao pad spicy basil all tasted great. I ordered takeout via their website from the Sandy location. Pad Woo Sen with tofu and vegetables. I hate how a lot of places dump a bag of frozen mixed vegetables in their noodle or rice dishes. That was not the case with this delicious big bowl of flavorful noodles. It was packed with fresh broccoli, cabbage, peas, two kinds of mushrooms, red and green bell peppers, tomatoes, and baby corn. None of the veggies were overcooked. The flavor and seasoning was just right. The dish cost $10 and it was a huge portion of food. A very good value. I also ordered the chicken satay. Really loved the precautionary measures this restaurant offered with sanitizer at the front and outside the bathrooms. This is the best pad eggplant I've tried with a delicious and rich flavor and plenty of sauce to mix with your rice. Just what I wanted. Nothing fancy, good service and delicious food. Not a whole lot to say, I wasn't blown away and I wasn't dissapointed, it was as good as any experience I could expect. Now the bathroom could use some interior design and I didn't care for some of the music, but not a problem. I would maybe stress that the egg rolls could be bigger like what I'm used to but they were good, and the Pad Kee Mao was a smaller portion but it was fantastic. The food was disgusting and the waitress was rude. If you are black, do not go there. She was short with me and my friend and they tried to give us dirty Sake cups. Absolutely horrible experience. The food irradiated my stomach and the service was just horrible. I went to take my friend out to eat and we had the worst experience. I'm literally writing this from my bathroom (you can do the math on that one). This waitress brought me a dirty cup with dried sake in it and when I told her she had an attitude. She didn't apologize for it being dirty, she just took it and brought out another. When it came time to order I had the pad thai and my friend had a salad with beef and peppermint. We both ordered a 3. My food came and had absolutely no spice, her food came, it was a 5. The lady was rude when I told her the food was made too spicy ( I typically get a 5 so i know hot food well). The food was so spicy, you couldn't taste anything. My friend had to order something different just to be able to eat. She put it at the end of the table and the waitress took it away. She brought the bill with it still on there. When I asked her to remove it, she was rude and told my friend she should have known better...(I honestly think this woman had deeper issues). The pad see ew was as sweet as sugar to the point that I threw most of it away. Everything else was not up to par. Please be light on the sugar if you, cha Ba Thai cook, read this review. One hour later, John the owner called me to tell me how sorry he was and that the food was not up to par. He said that the sauce used for the noodle dish was not good and they will throw it out. We ordered: - Fried tofu plate as appetizer -- the sauce that comes with it is tasty! - Vegetarian pad kee mao - a little too salty for me - Tom yum soup - nothing bad to say - Vegetarian khao soi My favorite Thai dish of all time is khao soi, and although it was a bit too salty for my taste, Cha Ba Thai's was satisfying enough for me to take my leftovers to go (portion is enough for 2 people to share! or 1 person to eat twice). What a great find! You might pass by but take a peek inside. Very cute decor, new and clean. We were greeted by three of the four people working the dining room within 3 seconds of entering. No draft beer but a selection of bottled that is typical for a restaurant that's not into beer. Nice touch, they poured the Heineken into a glass. I had a good glass of merlot from a label I dont recall, Columbia something. My husband's Pad noodle dish was delicious and perfectly spicy, he ate the whole dish which was a huge portion. I had a super tasty mango prawn dish from the specials menu. Peppers, onions and a sweet chili sauce with cashews. I ate way too much but it was so tasty I couldn't stop. This time the carry-out boxes of two of our three orders were only half filled and not of the quality that the restaurant was offering, say, a year or two ago. This place has really gone downhill. Five stars for the Tom kha alone. I dare you to order Tom kha here. It's the best I've had in Portland. I cheated on Cha Ba recently when I ordered Tom kha from a Thai place on Belmont. What a mistake. I've also ordered Cha Ba from Amazon Prime Now and everything I've ordered has been delicious, hot, and packed well. Just FYI: their "mild" is on the hotter side of medium. At any rate the vegetable stir-fry with beef that I ordered was disappointing. It had mostly rice noodles and the beef-dominated flavor was not all that pleasing. I tried the pad thai noodles and found them too sweet for me. A beer was helpful to cut the slightly cloying taste.
