The best tempura #10 because it was served, pipping hot, crispy, fresh ingredients, perfectly salted. This plate has a variety of complimentary items and flavors. I highly recommend it. Cha Ba Thai: your front entry bouquet of fresh flowers had me gawping with delight... where oh where does that gorgeous talent for arrangement come from? And thank you so much for the pleasantries and the warm greeting when I walk in. This was where I met up my couple friend who live near Glendoveer Golf. I wanted to return the favor and treat them back for many a meal that they insisted upon back at our favorite former haunt near that ever-so-popular fabric store, that has since hung up its apron strings. Cha Ba serves solid Thai food. This place deserves some serious accolade. It has never disappointed, whether when ordering to-go or dine-in. The YUM factors are going on consistently, and I think I appreciate all that you've done for my appetite. I do, however, think that you might want to pay a bit more attention to the flies that I sometimes spot having a heyday and congregating around me, and my yumminess? The Tom Kha is full of flavor, the papaya salad is a beautiful balance of crisp, savory and sweet and the Pad Se Ew was some of the best I've ever had. Ample outdoor seating and good COVID protocols. We had ordered 2 dinners from Chaba Thai through Uber Eats. However, both dinners came without rice. Rice is a staple for Asian cuisine. When complaining to Uber Eats, they credited us $5, which is a joke for an incomplete dinner. Did they expect us to just eat the sauce drenched meat and vegetables without something to absorb it? What a joke!!! We used Uber Eats and Chaba Thai a lot. It's definitely time to switch the delivery service and possibly change the restaurant. Well it's not the best Thai place around the city, but their food will satisfy your cravings. I usually order the Pad Thai with chicken or tofu and feel that the food is worth the price. It's right on Sandy Blvd, which can be a busy street, but I've never had a hard time finding street parking nearby. They are also really good with takeout orders! I can place a phone order and it'll be ready in 10-15 minutes. Cha Ba Thai is as average as it gets when it comes to Thai food, but I don't have anything bad to say. read more

It's all about the crab fried rice! There is half crab and half rice it's so delicious and great value. We also had the pumpkin mussaman curry, the beef was so tender and flavorful. I highly recommend here for Thai food in PDX. The waitress are extremely friendly and provide super fast high quality service. read more

Cha Ba Thai garners some good memories for me. My family and I used to go here all the time few years ago, and I remember that the meals were tasty and the restaurant was bustling. This time, the restaurant was nearly empty, with patrons at only 3 other tables. This contrasts what it used to be, when we had to wait an hour to get seated. I still had high hopes for the food though, but I noticed that they raised their prices on quite a few items. +PAD SEE EW: We got this with tofu, which is great to sop up all the sauce and flavors of the noodles. This was probably my favorite dish of the night, although pretty standardly tasty. +GOLDEN SQUID: Crispy fried squid, where the batter isn't terribly heavy. It does come fried and attached to each other which was a little weird. However, the taste was still good. -KAO PAD PU (CRAB FRIED RICE): This was on the drier side, and for the price you pay, it doesn't seem worth it for stringy dried crab. -CHU CHEE CATFISH: I appreciate the sauce and the crispiness of the green beans in this dish. However, I'm quite disappointed with the amount of fish; there was barely any. At a table of 5, we perhaps had 1 piece each (a small piece at that). All in all, the food didn't blow me away, especially some miss dishes. The places definitely has changed, even with some familiar faces among the staff. I used to love coming here with the colorful plates and the happy busy dinner atmosphere, but I'm sad to find it not as good. read more

Really excellent food! Pad Kee Mao was featured in our family dinner, three different ways, and all were great. Fresh rolls were okay, just average, but were served with the best spicy peanut sauce on the planet. I almost always get take out from here, I think I've only ever eaten in the restaurant once. Most recently I got medium spicy khao soi and it was delicious but wow it was hot. I consider my spice tolerance to be pretty decent and I was sweating while eating. I've gotten the mango sticky rice, yellow curry, tom kha and one of the papaya salads in the past for some of my take out orders and they've all been pretty good but I rarely deviate from my orders. read more

This is a great place for Thai food. We came in on Christmas Day, and they were open and not crowded! Superb Pad Thai (in which I've went to many restaurants to try). I had their Tokyo Tea, which was strong, but tasted a little more like cough syrup, then again it had 3 different liquors in it. Prices are good too. Favorites are the pad se ew, pad eggplant, pad prick-king, and rad narh with seafood. You can't go wrong with any of the curries. Our first time in this restaurant and we had no idea what or how to order but the nice server walked us through the menu and gave us great suggestions. Khao Soi is good. Pieces of chicken meat rather than whole chicken leg but curry is excellent. Pad Kee Moi is also good. A bit sweeter than normal but lots of good veggies. Medium is plenty spicy! read more

Used to love this place. Food used to be excellent. Had take out last week and the food was terrible. Calamari was simply not edible and the few bites i tried upset my stomach. Cashew chicken not great either and the quality of veggies was nothing like it used to be. I called it in but they didn't care to address. I guess I won't be back. read more

If I could give these guys 2.5 stars, I feel that would be more accurate. The food was fresh and delicious (in the most boring way possible) but pretty scant on my portion, considering it was $17 with a coke + tip. They gave me a delicious meal that would absolutely satisfy small children 7-10 years of age. I'm still deciding if I want to get something else to eat because i'm still hungry. Maybe i'm a pig, because I ate a little breakfast about 2 hours before I tried this place out for lunch... actually i'm pretty normal/average height to weight body-mass ratio, so.... Also, not sure if it was an oversight, as I asked for extra spicy and what I got lacked any kind of heat. You could feed their extra-spicy to a newborn baby, and it would most likely not even rouse that baby from a nap (although i'm not sure why anyone would ever try to feed extra-spicy thai-noodles to a sleeping infant! Don't do it!) I saw other diners eating regular pad-thai and maybe that's the reason I came, but changed my mind at the last minute. Full disclosure, i'm not even sure that I like pad-thai, I think the mention of eggs put me off at the last minute. At any rate, the grilled flavors were yummy, and the service was fast and friendly, but there are a million + other places i'll try before I ever make it back here again. read more

First Impression: It's Okay. Average Food, Questionable Service. It's a corner shop where it's small and cozy on the inside, and they have a side bar-like seating area for ordering to-go and paying. I ordered a Pad See Ew for lunch, and it was okay. Definitely not the best, but it's still good and edible. There was a vegetable that they had put in that did not fit with the dish at all, as it was very bitter and makes your face scrunch up kind. Also crunched on a few egg shells; it's not like I haven't ate a dish where they had some before, but it just made the experience a little bit sadder. Service-wise, the workers all were approachable and kind, though I did hear them smack-talking some customers when there was no one to help. ALSO, if there's someone who wants less salt/sauce/etc, don't go here. They refused to for a customer who had a medical condition and she didn't want any or just a little sodium, but they said it's part of the food process and can't be changed. I'm not gonna pretend to NOT be a little bitter since I've experienced many places who were completely understandable and open on how they cook for their customers. First impression was a bit lacking, so I might come back to try again another time. read more

Say it with me. Cha Ba Thai. Cha Ba Thai. Cha. Ba. Thaaaaai. Wow. So I wanted to try out a new Thai place. One that was open on Sundays and hopefully didn't suck. And huzzah. There it was. This place is quite the trek down Sandy, but DAAAAYUM. I can't tell you how far I would walk for this food. Oh man. I can't tell you how far i would crawl. We got a Yellow Curry with Chicken, the Volcano Beef, Pad Kee Mao, and some fried rolls. A plethora of possibilities and two hungry tummies. It can be done! We order it to go and chill in the waiting area of the brightly colored little place. The atmosphere is alive and busy with noise. This place is busy and it looks good. We are given water to sip on while we wait, and I look around at all the different Buddha statues on the walls. Some are painted and some are old and bronzed. I think about how they got there and if they belong to the owner. Waitresses periodically walk by, Their hands held high in the air with the weight of the huge plates piled high with food. MOUNTAINOUS proportions. And for so cheap? Really? This must be what good karma is. Cut to 20 minutes later, 2 songs on the Grizzly Bear Cd, 3 assholes who can't drive, 2 floors up and over. We are back! Time to eat. The food is laid out picnic style (on the floor) and bachelor style (straight out of the containers. heeell yes!). First. The Curry. Wow. Thank you, god, gods, higher whatever, for making that Curry, because...DAMN. You are spicy as hell. You are some kinda wonderful. You had me at hello. You are so money and you don't even know it. The Pad Kee Mao. Pretty good. Shouda been less dry with the chicken but it is a fine line with stir-fry. Otherwise, great taste. Garlicky and chock full of veggies, chicken and garlic. mmmm. The rolls. Okay. The rolls really sucked. I'd skip them next time. Tasted like they came right out of a plastic package in the frozen food section. To be skipped. My advice is this...Order the Volcano Beef. It is hotter than a whorehouse in Texas in the middle of July. It is so hot, you should put on some damn suntan lotion before you eat it. It's hot enough to make your scalp sweat. And you will love every...effin...second. Giant strips of beef marinated up all spicy and savory and sweet. Served up with big honkin' green bell peppers. Add rice and it's true love. I will go to this place whenever. The EXTENSIVE menu and all it's many choices made me wish for four stomachs and five hands like one of the statues I saw in the restaurant. (Hmm...maybe that's why...) AAAAHHH Stop asking me questions! Oh yeah, i was writing a review. So anyway, I found myself up on Sandyagonal Blvd today around lunch and decided to stop in and finally try this little Thai place I had been reading so many reviews about. Let's just say that this 4 stars comes with cautious optimism. I sampled the Green Curry lunch special with chicken - spicy. Green curry is one of my lodestar dishes for Thai restaurants. This was pretty damn good. It consisted of chicken, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, eggplant (both Chinese and Thai! Yay! Not enough people in Portland uses Thai eggplant!) and basil in a nicely flavored curry. The veggies were all cooked quite well, with the bamboo shoots and eggplant almost perfectly done to a delicious tenderness. The curry itself was, dare I say, a tad weak. Definitely not as spicy as I was hoping for. Maybe next time I just say "pretend I am Thai. Make it that hot." I added some Sambal Oleck and some bird's-eye-chili-infused fish sauce to the dish (from the traditional 3-part chili caddy the server brought me), and that brightened it up a bit. Overall, a very tasty, above average curry deserving of 4-stars. And a generous portion for lunch price at a sit-down place with nicer-than-average decor. The addition of actual Thai eggplant in the dish sparked my curiosity, so I opened up the menu to peruse beyond the lunch page. What I discovered was a treasure trove of Thai dishes commonly ignored by most local places. Items like Miang Kham (made with spinach, not betel leaves), Thai noodle soup with clear broth, Khao Soi, and similar dishes graced the extensive menu. I have been settling for places with good curries but that lack these items for too long. The menu and the decor brought me back to some of my old favorite spots from when I was younger. That makes me excited. I will be back to try some of my old, long lost favorites here, and based on my above-par experience here, I am looking on quite a few bright sides right now. read more
