The pricing is reasonable, though they do accept credit cards with an added fee, so bringing cash is a better option. Tipping is also accepted. My barber, who appeared to be in his mid-40s, was skilled and detail-oriented. He took his time to ensure the haircut was done properly rather than rushing through it, which I really appreciated. The only downside is the parking situation. Since the shop is located next to a restaurant and a convenience store, parking can be difficult especially during peak hours and on Saturdays when spots are very limited. read more

Have been coming here for long time for my husband. I wish I could give zero star. I had a really disappointing experience here. Kevin has given my son good haircuts before, but unfortunately he had a long line that day and we were sent to another stylist (an older gentleman). Despite clearly showing a reference photo and explaining what we wanted, my son's hair was cut way too short and completely ruined. When I politely mentioned that it was shorter than requested, he became visibly irritated instead of trying to fix it or acknowledge the concern. Paying $24 for this result was extremely frustrating. I genuinely don't understand how this place has a 4.3-star rating. The quality is very inconsistent--if you get Kevin, you're probably fine, but based on our experience, the rest of the staff does not meet the same standard. I walked in at 6:35, the hairdresser said they didn't have time to cut my son's hair. I was able to talk her into it, and waited for her to finish with the client she was working with when I walked in. Then a different race person walked in who spoke their language and it seemed like they told him the same thing about not having time for him. As a Castro Valley local, this place has been my good ol' reliable for at least 5 years. I have medium thickness straight black hair and I usually go for a layered style just past the shoulders, asking for a few inches off whenever it gets too long. Nothing too fancy, though I did once ask for a dramatic A-line bob, which they pulled off fantastically with the help of reference photos. My total after tip lands somewhere around the $30 ballpark, which I admit to some people could be pricey, but I'm always happy to support a local business. I've had multiple barbers there cut my hair, and each one of them is always so meticulous with their work! I always do walk-in, and 90% of the time they're able to take me immediately. I brought my son in for a mohawk. I showed her a picture. I tried telling her that she should grab the top of his hair up so it doesn't get on the way. She told me to move my hand. She ended up cutting way too much from the top middle part. I ended up just telling her to stop and still pay $20 . Really impressed with the salon! They only take walk-ins. Came at 5:30 and was able to get seated for a cut for my 2 year old toddler quickly. Ivy was amazing! Super patient but also very detailed. Of course my son cried before we even started but he definitely settled in halfway through and it was definitely because of Ivy's calm approach. I am so glad they are able to cut all of our family's hair here! My 2 year old son and my husband got their hair cut by Hong (the guy), and he did a great job! He was gentle with my son and was very careful not to hurt him (my son moves a lot lol). My daughters and I got our hair cut by Ivy and Q. They did a great job. They made sure to take their time and listened to what we wanted as well as give some advice on how much to cut since I wanted to get rid of my split ends. It's hard finding a good barber shop that cuts my teen son's hair the style he wants, mind you it's not difficult... just the typical long K-Pop hair that are trending with the adolescence nowadays. After going through majority of the higher end salons and common name barber shops in Castro Valley that never seems to cut it right, I don't know why I never came across Chabot Haircuts. First time as a walk-in guest in January 2024 (no appointments accepted), I showed the stylist the haircut my son wanted. She went to work and 45 mins later, he was happy, I was happy, and stylist got a great tip! This has been my teen son's haircut salon ever since. Plenty of seating area for guests. Located in a small shopping plaza, there's a parking lot but there's also always parking along the street. read more

This review is for the lady with the station in the back left corner of the shop. I walked in on a Friday morning, asked for a simple haircut, 1-3 on the sides, leave the top. She did a decent job on the right side, but the left side was very patchy and she even cut a chunk out the top. When I asked her about it, she told me to just comb it over. I took my teen boy come here for hair cut twice , usually I don't respect too much from them so I am okay with the result, but today , my son told the lady what he wanted for his haircut, it come out with totally different style of haircut that he wanted to !!!! This used to be such a great place 4+ years ago. The owner Kim was amazing and she knew how to cut all types of hair. I should have known better when they told me Kim sold the business but i decided to give them a chance, how could you mess up a trim on super long hair? I went in for a trim with long layers. and walked out with a bob with 2 blunt layers cut straight across. the woman cut my hair with an electric razor and i have thick/wavy hair. this made made my ends so blunt. When I told her it was short, she pulled on my hair to show me how long it was. anyone with curly hair knows, when you pull on the hair, that's not how it really falls. I was crying in the chair. Horrible service. that $20 haircut is going to cost me $300 to get extensions. I will never return. read more

Had a hair trim with Ivy. She is great! I am always so apprehensive about going to new places for hair trim/cut because the person always seems to cut shorter than I would prefer. Ivy was very good. I took my 15 year old brother that's super awkward and doesn't communicate well here. I personally spoke to the man (seems to be in his 40's) and told him exactly what my brother told me to tell him. I told him a slight trim on the sides and about an inch off the top. I left to the store real quick as he said it would be 20 minutes, And came back to his whole effing head shaved off!!!! Apparently this man kept telling him "shorter is better" and even left a huge spot uncut. This really disappointed me as I'm always busy and this was supposed to be my treat for him. Been going to this place for years. It's cheap and fast. Never had a great haircut, but you get what you pay for. Sometimes it would be ok, other times not great, but I don't care that much. But the last few times have been horrible. My hair is easy. No curls, just straight. Part on the side use number 5 clippers. The last few times have been so bad, I wonder if they have even had any schooling whatsoever. It's uneven, choppy and short in some places and randomly long in others. I don't care that much, but I don't want to look like I cut my own hair. It's cheap, but these haircuts should be free they are so bad. Also, never see any cleaning supplies for the scissors and brushes. As far as I can tell, they use the same unsanitized scissors and brushes. Lice anyone? Anyway, awful. I won't be going back. It's a hole in the wall barber with friendly attentive service. Came in for a quick simple clipper cut with a gentleman name Huynh. Didn't have to wait long...10 minutes.
