This is long overdue, but I am writing to share the amazing services, client care, and professionalism of the stylist Mys at Sports Cuts in San Lorenzo. I have been going to Mys for twenty years. Twenty. I first was introduced to her through my sister who asked her customer where she got her haircut because it looked so good. She told her Mys. Not only does she have extremely fair/reasonable prices but is very generous in her services to make sure you come out feeling really happy about your cut, color, eyebrows, etc. Mys listens to what YOU want and will also be honest what are good healthy options for your hair that make the most out of your money. Mys is very flexible for times she can meet. I don't know how many times she has helped me last minute or in a jam. Mys is a great listener, makes me laugh, loving and very kind especially if you may be going through rough or transitional times. An Overly Casual Night I was nice in the past, but the salon has gone a little downhill over the past 2 years. 4 stars is no longer warranted. The salon is really named Sports Cuts. A lack of English proficiency by the owners caused me some confusion in the past. The layout was improved a year ago. The salon was "opened up" more. In December my wife was charged $35. She received a haircut and had some waxing and tweezing done. We both thought that she would be charged no more than $30. The prices for women are kind of random (the menu reflects this, but only to some degree). If you're a man, what you have to pay will be quite consistent (I'm almost always charged $12 for my haircuts). My son is treated well when he's here (he's a chick magnet). He likes it when he's offered some candy. I always receive good service (I feel awkward at how well I'm treated sometimes), but my haircuts are seldom great. Anyway, this review mainly pertains to my experience on Saturday. A bad hairstylist named Brandon no longer works here (he may have left in 2015), but the one that I had has taken his place (the woman cut my hair 2 months ago too). I arrived at 5:15. I was the only customer (until 2 women came in about half an hour later). 4 salon workers were around (one of the women emerged from the back after a few minutes). The woman who was in the back does waxing jobs. The other two women are hairstylists. The man knows what a good haircut looks like, but I'm not sure if he's a hairstylist. The man looked at my name with interest after I signed in. He basically said "Semen" instead of "Simon" (I'm used to Asians saying my name funny). I don't know her name, but the woman who cut my hair is new. (My wife even wonders if she's licensed.) The man was watching TV. He was seated to my right and kind of a distraction. He had some restless legs and was later staring at me (my glasses were off, but it was still obvious). The woman who does waxing was distracting too. She was briefly in the background munching on a snack. Like I told my wife, I didn't expect the workers to engage in busy work for my sake, but the atmosphere around me still should have been a bit more professional. My hairstylist seemed nervous, like I was about to ask her out. The final instance wasn't her fault, but she dropped things 3 times (I think her hands were too wet). She also leaned into me a decent amount (I'm not trying to be mean, but she has a dumpy figure- if she had more of a reach, she wouldn't have needed to get so close). I laughed to myself when she told me to relax (I moved my arms in so that she would have more room, not because I was tense- I actually closed my eyes a number of times, partly to indicate that I was relaxed). At one point, I was spun around in the chair so much that I felt like I was on a tea cup ride. The hairstylist didn't listen well (that was the case 2 months ago too). She forgot to cut my sideburns (she trimmed them a little only). She also tried to do what she wanted, not what I wanted. I tried to tell her twice not to focus on styling my hair (I really don't do anything with it- when I get a haircut, I only care about my hair being cut short). Her inexperience was also clear (she wasn't aggressive enough- it was like she was afraid to cut my hair). The other hairstylist stepped in 3 times. I spoke up when my hairstylist first thought that I was done (she basically said bye to me 3 times). She was nice and said that I looked "handsome" twice. I smiled and laughed a little, but I was still frustrated (it normally takes about 20 minutes to cut my hair, but this time it took 40). Ladies, Please: The other hairstylist and the man are probably the owners. Anyway, the two hairstylists briefly fought over me (what I'm really saying is that the other hairstylist was somewhat demonstrative when she took over). It was sort of nice to be paid all this attention (even the man made sure that I looked "better" when all was said and done), but I started to feel like some kind of specimen. (My hairstylist was basically given some training that she should have received earlier.) Unless it's busy here, the female owner only serves as the cashier now. She should focus on cutting hair more. The hairstylists underneath her can be hit or miss. A man cut my hair early last year. I was very pleased with the job he did. Sadly, though, the hairstylist went on vacation and never returned (I think his name was Billy). Anyway, I just learned that you should ask for Lee or Jenny (I'm not actually sure if Jenny still works here). Note: If you request a particular hairstylist, you'll be charged $1 more. I paid and only asked for $6 back (my change was $8). After that, I got the hell out. I live just a few blocks away, and my lazy ass will continue to go here. Update: they are re-opened as of September, but call ahead of time to schedule an appointment since hours may be slightly changed during this re-opening phase. Review: I love this place and have been going regularly for several years. As someone with short hair who is looking for a simple cut, this place is one of the best I've been to in my life. I don't know too much about hair but that is not a problem: my barber, the woman who is there on Friday afternoons, seems to know the style I am going for and has even given me suggestions in the past in order to make sure it is what I want. I have always found that my haircut is neat and never stingy, and the fade really looks like a fade. Finally, my barber has found a way to fade my hair so that my cowlick is not a problem even with a thinner razor number, which is an area in which my past barbers have struggled. Price-wise, they are one of the best in the area even with a warranted slight increase from $12 to $16, but that is still relatively affordable and they do not shortchange their customers. In terms of wait time, I've always had a good experience with little to no line, but perhaps that is because I go on Fridays. Finally, it is worth mentioning that they are doing their best to follow health protocols related to COVID-19, such as wearing masks, limiting customers to 2-at-a-time, and using disposable plastic capes. I've moved out of the neighborhood close to 5 years ago, but I still come here just for Lee!!! I was going here since my college years and loved the price and outcome of my hair each time I come! And now it takes me an hour to get here but still the same person and still the same reasonable price!!! You can't beat experience and price. And more importantly the customer service that makes me feel like Lee is family and she knows exactly what I like! Lee is so versatile with her knowledge. She can do any style. After 20 years, she's done it all for me. The curls, the bob, the shave, the different types of colors, and going back to plain simple cuts... And she's done wedding events as well as my kids hair cuts- both gender loves their haircut. She's one that I trust. She also does my wax, my lips, my facial... one important thing I'm missing is the fact that she will take me any hour and have actually had me in early and even late!!! OK, so here goes. Ever since moving to the East Bay from SSF, I was recommended this place by my banker who takes her son here for his haircuts. They are quick and do a generally nice job. Rather than go back all the way to Daly City where I was perfectly happy, now I found a new place that fits my bill. Okay, so I'm cheap. But for the price, and the service, you can't go wrong. The only disappointment I had with this place which made me avoid it like the plague for a while is after getting a haircut with them last year, I caught some nasty rashes which lasted for almost three months!! Even my doctor was baffled!! It was nasty. She said that they must have used a dirty bib(?) on me when I got my haircut. Hence, when I recently came back, I specifically asked that she use a new one on me or I don't get the haircut. She was gracious enough to do it for me. I will get my next haircut here again, and see if they are consistent...consistently good, or consistently bad. read more

Well it's the holiday weekend and I just came back into town. 2 out of my 3 kids needed haircuts and I have an interview for Wednesday. Most if not all the shops around me were closed including my plan b and c. Here comes plan d and low and behold sports cuts was my savior. It's a nice little shop a couple blocks away so while driving aimlessly back from the opposite direction and yelping at the same time I stumbled on this spot. Didn't look open but the lady was there to greet me. I was lucky because the place was empty so I was seated right away and given a quick trim. Let me start off by sayin this, when i go to a hair salon i want you to cut the hairstyle that I want, not what u think i should look like. if there were negative stars, i would definitely have given this establishment that. Anyways, went to try to this place out because one of my friend referred me and said BRANDON cuts good. i figured i can always use another good barber. Being it's my first time hair ;), i went in prepared .. a pic of me with the haircut i had before! i know. Besides describin da haircut to him, which i did (im asian btw) .. "number 1, shave sides up, dont cut the top hair jus trim (cuz i want it long so i can form it spikey later), and dont cut the side angles too steep leading to the center dome/spike". Then i whip out my big fat iphone and I SHOW HIM THE PICTURE TOO! This is what i want, he examines the pic for ~5 seconds and says he can do that. Great! so i thought ... ~20 mins elapsed and Mr Brandon vidal sassoon completed his beautiful butchery ... of my head! I think he was actually tryin to give me HIS haircut. i no like, so politely ask him to touch up and this is the response i got from him: 1. first request: retrim n cut hair, no problemo 2. second request: retrim and cut hair and start talkin to boss lady in vietnmese, perhaps abt lack of dinner 3. Chopped 1/2" - 3/4" off the top of my head when i specifically told him not to cut top 4. Attempt to convince me current haircut looks like pic i showed him 5. Tell me to goto boss lady, she'll cut my hair (not in the nicest way) 6. Tell me to ask for someone else when i come in next time 7. Reconvince me his POS haircut looks like the one in the pic 8. Boss lady helps and attempts to defend mr. vidal sassoon lack of skills ....etc Anyways, after finding out im not on an episode of Punk'd, and the fiasco is real, i decided to cut my losses (no pun intended). She is quick and her service is second to none. I have been going to her for years and cannot imagine going anywhere else. She is an expert with fades and providing a really clean cut. She has a lot of regulars, where you may need to make an appointment to see her, but the other girls that work with her are also top rated. I feel comfortable with having any of the girls help me, but Le is my personal favorite. The whole staff are stars. They have great cutting skills and have top notch service. This place is great!!!My husband has been getting his hair cuts from the Le for over 10 years. When it was time for my daughter's to get their firs haircuts he took them to Le. I work in SF and have often have gone to more expensive salons because of convenience, recently I started going to Le as well on a regular basis for my haircuts and coloring and she has been fantastic for half the price. I have extremely long (past my hips) wavy natural color hair. I've been going here annually for a shampoo and a TRIM for nearly 10 years. I always repeatedly instruct that no more than 3 inches be trimmed. The man that cut my hair chopped off 6 to 8 inches and completely unevenly!!! Oh dear God. Do you know how many YEARS IT TAKES TO GROW THAT MUCH HAIR??? I do not blow dry so when I got home I saw the butcher job. I spent another hour going back to have the owner try and make it at least even. I have lost a piece of my body they cannot replace. Of course I received a refund, but my beautiful untreated hair is worth several hundred dollars and is now nearly ruined. If I do not receive a substantial payment for their gross negligence I will take them to court. Lee the owner has my contact information. I expect a check for all damages, pain, and suffering by February 27, 2015. If I do not receive payment I will file the court papers and report this negligence to all Bay Area press. read more

I gave this place 0 star . Service is horrible! They just want to cut your hair and take your money and be done with ! I came in and was not even greeted . Sat down in their waiting section for 1 person before. When it was my turn I ask the stylist , his name was Brandon , can he cut my hair according to the picture I showed him . He said "YES" then he started to explain to me how's he going to cut it and already his description sound nothing like the picture . I showed him the picture again and he said yes I can do it . Then I ask do you need me to put the picture on the table so you can model it ? He said no . After his first cut screw the whole thing up !! My hair style is medium long and he cut it as short as a spiky haircut ! I ask him does that look like the picture ? And he said : well its already done. He basically shave one side of my head .
