[[HIGHLIGHT]]I came in for a haircut with Jim and, while he was very friendly and pleasant, I'm not sure I would recommend my experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have long, thick Asian hair that reaches close to my waist. I showed several inspiration photos and explained that I was hoping for a straighter, more blended look. The haircut was completed in about 10-12 minutes, which honestly surprised me because I've never had someone cut my hair that quickly. I left terrified. Unfortunately, the result wasn't what I asked for. He added more layers than I wanted, even though I specifically requested a straighter style. He also cut my hair about two inches shorter than I had requested, and the layers don't blend as smoothly as I would like. The haircut doesn't look terrible, but it wasn't the look I was hoping for, and the appointment felt rushed. While Jim was kind and professional, I left feeling disappointed and not very happy with the final result. Because of that, I probably wouldn't return. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Jim and his team at Jim's Hair Salon are wonderful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recently went in for a corrective balayage with highlights and babylights, and they spent several hours carefully working on my hair. What impressed me most was his attention to hair integrity. Instead of trying to push my hair too far in one session, he was very honest and set realistic expectations based on my previous color and the condition of my hair. I originally wanted a very creamy pale vanilla blonde. Jim explained how far we could safely go in one appointment without risking damage or breakage. I really appreciated that honesty, because protecting the health of my hair was clearly his priority. Even though we couldn't go all the way to my final goal in one session, he absolutely set me up for success. The result is a soft dimensional blonde that looks beautiful and natural, and interestingly my hair actually seems to look lighter and brighter as the days go by, especially when sunlight hits it. Jim clearly plans the process in stages. I will most likely return in a couple of months for baby highlights to brighten the crown and continue moving toward the creamy vanilla tone I ultimately want. The salon itself is also a great environment. Jim and his staff are friendly, welcoming, and professional, and you can tell they genuinely care about their clients and the health of their hair. Overall I'm extremely happy with the result and very grateful for Jim's skill and honesty. If you're looking for balayage, blonde highlights, or color correction in the area, I highly recommend Jim's Hair Salon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also strongly recommend calling and making an appointment. Detailed Review Below Service Quality: I wouldn't say they rushed it but I wouldn't say it's clean work either. Application wasn't super precise and there are obvious streaks now. Salon Environment/ Hygiene: Chemicals weren't too strong and clean workspace. Durability / Longevity: Around a month after, the color became more blond even after using the shampoo they sold me specifically for maintaining the color. Comfort / Experience I was well taken cared of with great hospitality and nice service. They offered water and candies/ chocolates and there was a bathroom. Accuracy to Inspiration: The inspiration picture (4th pic) and what came out was very different. My hair seems inaccurate from the inspiration picture. Pricing / Value I came here for the price which was the most affordable in the area and I got what I paid for. Tech/Stylist They were friendly especially the male manager who was very welcoming and conversational. They would ask before doing anything and suggest many things. In fact the manager took the photos in the store. Return Again If I wanted an affordable way to change my hair then i would but if I wanted my hair to match the inspiration picture then I would not return again. I could not recommend Jim's enough! They had me right with the quality of the service, the treatment during my appt, and the price point. What more could you ask for? I called in stressed about my at home box dye dilemma and Jim was so calm, and invited me in the same day so he could take a look. Once I got there he reassured me that everything I wanted in my inspo pics was possible... and made it happen. Him and Tracy worked magic on my hair, while feeding me snacks and tea. They made me feel so comfortable throughout the 6 hours I spent there. I could also tell he's built a strong clientele because every person that came in he treated like a friend, asking "how's your brother, how are the kids, etc". I've been to Jim Salon a couple times now. Jim's the owner and hes great at haircuts. He really takes his time and the cut always turns out nice. Prices are also super reasonable compared to other spots. Would I recommend him for haircuts? Yes 100%. For color? Not so much.. I came in for a balayage recently and showed an inspo pic but the results were way off. I had to come back for a fix but I still had to pay. Also he actually doesnt do the color himself. He has others in the salon do it while he just checks in occasionally. When I came back, it was Lin who helped fix the color and she was super sweet and listened to what I wanted. Come here for a haircut or a basic one color dye. But if youre looking for something like a balayage, I'd say go somewhere that really specializes in color. read more

Since moving to the area, Hubby has been looking for a place closer by to get his haircut instead of going down to Oakland all the time. I looked up places for him and found Jim's. Hubby and I went there and we both ended up getting a haircut. It's been a while since I've had my hair cut/trimmed. Upon arrival we were as to take a seat to wait to be called up. Wait time wasn't too long, about 10 minutes or so. I ended up getting Jim who did an amazing job. My hair was super longer and I just wanted a trim, but he suggested that I cut it a bit due to my split ends. I agreed and it looked amazing. I should've gone just a little shorter, but I ended up liking the length of it. Hubby had a great experience as well and has been coming back every 2-4 weeks to get his hair cut by them. read more

I visit Jim's about once a year for a dye, cut and style. The price was more than reasonable and I am always happy with how my hair turns out, but most importantly I am most happy with the service. Jim treats every customer like family. In the two hours I was there getting pampered, I heard people talk to Jim about their family, health, vacations and more. I recommend asking for Tracy to cut your hair, and especially so if you're female with medium to long hair interested in face framing layers or curtain bangs. I had previously jumped around at salons because I couldn't find someone who could consistently cut my hair the way I liked. I have asked for Tracy at every visit so far and she has not disappoint. There was even a time I asked for shorter bangs and she advised me against it and sure enough she was right! Any shorter and the bangs would have sat weirdly and she knew that. I made an appointment on Monday for Thursday and it was a simple phone call. Jim's has been around for a very long time and I actually came here over a decade ago for a quick haircut. I have been trying so many different places and seem to just not want to commit to one stylist and also I travel too much for hair, so I needed something close by. Since I spend hours with stylists, I also want to make sure we gel and that they always hear what I have to say when it comes to what I want exactly. Anyway, I was the first customer that day and spent 5.5 hours there. I wanted a money piece and peek-a-boo, showed Jim a picture and his coworker helped me with the colors. Since my hair was dark in many areas and highlighted in some, it was hard to achieve the blonde I wanted. The first toner had my hair purple on top and blonde on the side so I panicked a little. Jim assured me that they could fix it by toning it a second time and getting it a golden ashy blonde. I agreed and once they were done, I was relieved. It wasn't the blond I anticipated, but since my hair was not already light, I understood that this was best result I could get. Since I was tired of sitting for so long, I didn't want any styling, just blow dry so I could get on with my day. In the end, I was pleased with the result. Also, the prices are reasonable.
