Haters are always going to hate. Dr. Barrit is an honest, caring doctor who will not measure his words to tell you when you are doing something wrong. His duty as a doctor is to make the patient aware of the risks associated with wrongful use of contacts, or neglecting the care of your eyes. Given, he is not soft spoken, but that does not parallel with him being an evil Dr. Dr. Barrit will go above and beyond to make you aware of the health conditions of your eyes. I strongly believe that Dr. Barrit will always look for the best product and will always advice on the best way to care for your vision. To conclude, if you are looking for a doctor that will care for you and your eyes, and look for someone who will advice you properly on the product you should be using to prolong the health of your vision, Dr. Barrit should be your Dr. But, if all you want is a prescription for contacts and you know you are neglecting your eye care and you don't care and don't want to hear it, then you will hate Dr. Barrit. read more

First off, the front desk lady is first rate, professional and friendly. Dr. Barritt is an excellent doctor. He took the time to explain to me the health of my eyes and future problems my aging eyes are going to experience. If you want a first rate optometrist, I strongly recommend Dr. Barritt. read more

Dr. Barritt was absolutely amazing. I was honestly expecting a sub-par experience thinking an optometrist at Cosco would be cheaping out as I needed a cheap option for my appointment due to being short on money. Turns out Dr. Barritt was out-of-network for my insurance VSP; however, he ended up being much cheaper than an in-network Doctor that took my insurance. The process the entire time there was absolutely wonderful from me setting up the appointment process with the lovely receptionist Ms. Patty to finally leaving after a very brisk, but thorough exam. Dr. Barritt did not rush me whatsoever and was very competent and confident in his work with me which left me a very positive impression even though there was many people in the lobby. He literally was very patient and informative in regards to any questions I had (there were several!) and was even amazing enough to predict that I was wearing my contact lens' longer than I should in my eyes due to mild irritation in both my eyes. It turns out that he knows much better than my previous Optometrist as he dissuaded me of any worries about my corneal health my previous Optometrist informed me and who was over-exaggerating. He also brought me back to a non-Torics lens as the previous Optometrist had forbid me of them despite not having severe astigmatism. I am forever thankful of Dr. Barritt and as long as I reside in San Diego he will be my permanent Optometrist, it's a pity he isn't a physician as well as I'd make him my primary care provider as well! Any previous reviewer that is hating on Dr. Barritt was either rude themselves or simply incompetent. I have never seen a more compassionate and patient Optometrist since I've left Canada, easily the best Optometrist I've had since I've been back in America. read more

I came to Costco to have my eye exam done when I temporarily lost my insurance, because the out-of-pocket cost was very reasonably priced. After my experience, I wish I had gone to a different Costco because Dr. Barritt was curt and condescending. When he asked me when the last time I'd had an eye exam was, I said, "Last year? Two years ago? Last year I think." With a raised eyebrow, he replied, "You don't even know?" He also asked about how frequently I changed my contacts. I told him that I generally change them once a month but admitted that sometimes I'd keep them an extra week or two. He said, "You know you're supposed to change them once a month right? Did no one tell you that? No wonder your eyes are inflamed." Next, Dr. Barritt asked about my current brand of contacts. I told him what they were, and he didn't believe me. Literally. He said, "That's impossible because those have been discontinued." I said, "I'm pretty sure those are the ones." He told me that I must be wearing majorly-expired contacts then, which I denied. He continued to debate with me until I pulled up a picture of my contact lens boxes on my phone that showed that the expiration date had not yet passed. Then he said, "Well you shouldn't even have those. Those are the old version. Was your previous eye doctor an older man? Well he's probably stubborn and wants to get rid of his old batch then." He then grumbled a little bit about "old school" optometrists who don't keep up with best practice. Dr. Barritt then asked about the type of contact lens solution I use. I told him, "I just buy the Costco brand." He said, "You shouldn't be using that either." I asked him to explain, and he said that generic store brand contact lens solutions are based off of old formulas. He told me I was using the wrong solution. At the end of the appointment, he said, "Change them once a month. What's the date today? So what day next month are you going to change them? Is that something you can do?" in succession as if I were a child. Overall, Dr. Barritt had a poor provider-client interaction with me. He was unprofessional, arrogant, and made zero attempts to build rapport. I had a terrible experience. Avoid this optometrist if you can! read more

Called the optical number from Costco online, they directed me to "Dr Barrett's office", I said " I'm looking to have an eye exam", lady said "I'll transfer you" (transferred immediately). Next person answers and I say "I'm trying to book an eye exam", they say call 205-1503. I hung up and realized that's the same number I just called...called again, said I needed to book an eye exam, " "let me transfer you "...lady picks up " Dr. Barrett's office", "I'd like to book an eye exam", " we dont take appointments ". I said OK......thanks. Hung up. I go to Costco at 1pm, office is closed until 2pm. We walked around, then wait for 20 minutes. Dr. Chad Barrett shows up, gives a half hello and asked "what times your appointment"... I tell him the above story and he doesn't believe me. I push the issue and he said to wait a minute for his admin to return. He also tells me they do not have any appointments left today....while I wait I booked an appointment for the following day; he tells me to make sure I cancel if I can't make it because they " have started to charge a cancellation fee". As I wait I'm thinking my appointment is less than 24 hours away, what's the fee cut off time, before I ask the admin comes in, Dr Barrett said "did you tell anyone we don't book appointments?". She said "no". Now he looks at me like this must be proof that I called a different Dr Barrett's office from a internal transfer inside Costco. Her voice was clearly the same person I spoke to. He was pretty condescending, no sympathy, clearly judging me in my day off shorts and sandals, reminding me twice to cancel if I can't make it. Also they do not take my eyemed insurance. Sign outside $59, he said $69.... Called Lenscrafters, $10 copay with my insurance, appointment that day, glasses in one hour...great customer service! Dr. Barrett has an untrustworthy vibe. Happy I cancelled because I'm guessing the exam would have been poorly executed. I think he was used to BS from a big crazy store like Costco because he didn't care or want my business... He had a lot of exeams scheduled.... Why would he give two $#!+s about me. That was clearly received and understood. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Chad M. Barritt, and everything went as it supposed to be (on time, respectful, worried about patient ocular health, and communicative) and got my new prescription. Although my new prescription change a lot from my older one, I was a bit surprised but still went to make my new lenses (because those numbers where my reading). Next day when trying them on, didn't feel confortable at all (was seen blurry) and had to call Dr Chad to speak about my issue and he did all possible to help me, which is why I'm giving 5 stars, because he made arrangements so I could visit his office as soon as possible next day (first appointment next day) and went through more examinations, fixed my problem and solved for which I feel gratitude towards his team workgroup. read more

Love this place, they always go above and beyond - never rushing my appointment and they really honestly care about their patients and eye health. I have had appointments with both Dr. Barritt and his assisting staff - and both always tell it to me like it is. You only get one pair of eyes, and I am grateful they care enough to make sure I am using the correct contacts, eyedrops, etc. I have also gotten referrals to Opthamologist to further check what could have been an issue. The staff is prompt, friendly, organized and very easy to work with. The Office Manager at the front reception area is extremely helpful and I always feel welcomed. read more

I had my first appointment with him this week, thinking that Costco optical service has always been fantastic when I purchase my eye glasses and I was completely wrong! I've been going to this optometrist for awhile and every single time he has been unpleasant. His bed side manner is horrible. He's mean. Every time I go in, I come out feeling like shit because he's just such a jerk. The way he talks to you is as if he's undermining you. He uses sarcasm and makes you feel dumb. I started taking my daughter there and his behavior was the same way towards her. I do not recommend this optometrist, terrible terrible service. read more

The assistant and Dr are very courteous, professional and accommodating. The extended and weekend hours provide scheduling flexibility. The Dr explained things thoroughly enough and clearly. He also answered all my questions. This is my 3rd visit and the past two visits were the same experience. read more

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Barrit. He started off by asking me when my last exam was and I said 2012, and have been using the same glasses since then. He was irritated that I went so long without an exam. His coldness didn't make me comfortable to express that it was mainly a financial reason why I had gone so long. I told him that my glasses broke on Sunday and he (very rudely) said, "Don't you know that the law says that you must wear your glasses while driving?!" He asked me to look up at tiny letters on his board right after, and told me that if I can't read those letters that I shouldn't be on the road. (As if there's tiny words like that to read while driving)??? He asked me where I was going to get glasses from and I said I was considering Warby Parker online. He said not to trust online companies. I asked why and he said because their glasses are cheap for a reason. (Warby Parker glasses cost more than Costco glasses) After the exam he said, "Well if you're not interested in contacts then you can't drive for at least a week until your glasses come in." He said it in such an uncomfortable tone that it felt like he was going to report me to the police or DMV or something!!!! Ridiculous! I told him I could just tape my glasses and I'll be fine and thankfully he laid off after that. I feel so bad for his sweet receptionist. She provides excellent service. She doesn't deserve to have to work under that jerk. He probably treats her like poo :( He's miserable and he really does make you feel like a POS after spending time with him.
