I recently tried this place for the first time with a group of friends and it was fantastic! We ordered a little bit of everything and honestly, not a single dish missed. The flavors were bold, balanced, and delicious. We started with the Hat Yai fried chicken (crispy, juicy, and perfectly seasoned), the Sai Ua croquettes (super flavorful with just the right amount of spice), and the salted yolk calamari (delicious and came with a great dipping sauce). For mains, the beef tallow fried rice was SO YUMMY! The pad see ew had that perfect wok char and chewy noodles. The crispy pork krapow brought the heat and crunch (and was probably my favorite) and the short rib panang curry was balanced with meat that literally melted in my mouth. The food was fine but the service really needed work. I told the waitress and also had in the Resy notes that I have an allergy to onion and garlic, and she said that I could have the salted yolk calamari and the pad see ew safely. I assumed that she would make the proper modifications and reminded her when we ordered. After we finished the entire dish of calamari, she came back to notify us that she'd had a miscommunication with the kitchen and that the sauce contained garlic powder. I said it wasn't a great situation, but I had already eaten it, so there was nothing we could do now. We also asked for the leftover food to be packed up and it was never packed for us. Drinks - we got to mock tails- the lychee bliss and a sweet corn. The sweet corn is definitely unique drink, and something that I have not tasted before. My husband did think that some of the tofu could've been cooked a little bit more, but I actually enjoyed how soft all of the tofu was. The triple mushroom fried rice was good. I like that the mushrooms were super small so the flavor was an overwhelming. I do wish there were more vegetables in the mushroom fried rice beyond just the mushrooms though. But overall both the items were so good and so flavorful it's not worth taking a star off for. Vegetarian friendly? Yes! Plenty of options and they were also flexible in making some of the options vegetarian like subbing, the beef for tofu in some of the dishes. We came as a party of seven and ordered several dishes and I loved every single one. The service staff is friendly and accommodating towards all their customers, and helped me to look for my sunglasses when I left them buried in the comfortable fabric chair that I was sitting in (oops!). We started off with the salted egg yolk calamari, which tapped well into my Singaporean tastes. I'd use that dipping sauce for other foods any day. The papaya salad tasted very fresh, and if you're still craving the salted egg yolk flavor, guess what - it's topped with one! First thing's first-- the DECOR. The interior of this restaurant is so so beautiful and intricately colored and decorated. It's elegant but comfy, and stepping inside was like stepping into a different world. The lunch special comes with your choice of appetizer. I got the chive pancakes and loved them. For the main I was deciding between the Bamee Moo Dang and the Khao Moo Dang Moo Kob. I ended up deciding on the latter, but they brought me the Bamee Moo Dang. But I'm not faulting them for it because I didn't complain (didn't want the food to go to waste, and it was a dish I had wanted to try anyway). The flavors in the dish were so deep, and the noodles were chewy. There's a kick of heat from the chili flakes that really adds to it. I thought the pork was slightly on the dry side, but it was still chewable and didn't take away much. My main gripe with this dish is that the serving is too small. It's $19 for a dish that you can finish in under ten bites, and I noticed a similar pattern with my friends' dishes. Everything just seemed smaller than a usual entree. I also tried the coconut thai tea-- a twist on the regular thai tea that sounded too good to pass up. It was delicious and light-- tasting like a coconut milk tea but the Thai tea added a richness to the drink. However, for $12, I probably wouldn't get it again. For when you don't feel like trekking out to Elmhurst, the newly-opened Chada is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in the city in ages. The vegetables in the massaman curry were expertly handled, and the cauliflower will melt in your mouth. The mushroom larb and salt and pepper tofu both pack a good bit of punch spice wise, and the texture of the tofu itself was beautifully contrasting. One of my closest friends was in town and we decided to come here for a nice dinner to catch up - it didn't disappoint at all! I'd heard a bit about how popular this Thai restaurant can get but we decided to risk it without making a reservation and was able to get seated immediately at around 5 pm on a weekday evening. So many dishes on their menu sounded so good it was honestly difficult to choose so we ended up going with the very basics for our first time at this restaurant. The folded dumplings were gluten-free, which I was really excited for given my allergy, and they were truly amazing!! They contained a savory peanut-y filling and were served in what seemed like a coconut milk-based broth. The combination of sweet and savory was so good - I truly think I could've just had additional orders of these dumplings for my dinner and I would've been completely satisfied! Our entrees arrived quite quickly afterwards - my friend really enjoyed her pad see ew! My pad thai was super flavorful (and the default protein is shrimp), the only slight downside was that I felt like my noodles were a bit undercooked because they were a bit clumped/congealed together and had a harder texture than I expected. Very spicy with a heat that builds, this tasted similar to what I've had in Phuket - Folded Dumpling -- you'll either love or hate it, but I enjoyed it. It was very peanuty and a unique dish worth trying once. Overall I did enjoy the food, but the weird host interaction + cramped space left me wanting a little more. Especially for the price point, I expect a little nicer of a dining experience. Hopefully Chada irons out these kinks as the food was honestly some of the better Thai in the area. read more
