The massaman curry was also flavorful, but a little too sweet for our liking (tasted more like yellow curry, and less of the peanut taste we are used to) Nevertheless, I really liked their GIANT trifold menu and we will definitely be back to try the rest. Amazing ambiance inside (I ADORED the gold hanging decor on the ceiling) Bathrooms were very clean and staff was so efficient and friendly. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the city! It's always busy so it's best to book a reservation or hope and pray there are bar seatings, which is first come first serve. I ordered the calamari and pad Thai. The calamari was amazing. It was light and fresh. Be specific when ordering pad Thai, one has all the cuteness which is the Royals Pad Thai. The presentation is everything! If you change it and add chicken to it, they bring it out like a regular dish so only order with shrimp, if you like seafood! We did walk in for party of 2 on a Saturday and waited almost 75 min for a table! We were STARVING by the time we were seated at the bar and ordered Curry Puffs to start off. They were DELISH - the puff pastry was light, and airy and the sauce complimented it very well. We both ordered Tofu Pad Thai and it was honestly very good. I'm critical when it comes to Pad Thai bc it's the baseline Thai dish. If THE classic noodle dish is bad, then the restaurant is bad overall, but the Pad Thai here was SO GOOD! It wasn't super sweet at all, like some other places, and had a great amount of mixed eggs, bean sprouts, and green onions. Thai Villa isn't as big as I thought, but there's a good amount of seating. Stopped by Thai Villa for dinner and ordered the Pad Thai and Pad Krapow. I asked if the spice level was Thai spicy or Americanized and was told Thai spicy -but there was barely any heat at all. The food was decent but definitely lacked the bold spice I was expecting. I wish I had ordered something much spicier or emphasized it more. Thai Villa is perfect for those nights you really want to experience a beautiful ambiance. The decor and lighting gives romantic but also inviting. We went on a Saturday night after 5p with no reservations and had the option of a long wait time or sitting at the bar so we opted for the bar. The staff was friendly and the bartender was patient as I asked a couple of menu questions and later had to exchange my alcoholic drink for a non-alcoholic one. The food was just OK, I've had better Thai food at causal mom and pop spots. For appetizers we had wings, salmon puffs and for the entree the duck and unfortunately these dishes didn't have that freshly prepared and made to order taste. I would still say give it a try maybe a different night or different dishes will yield different results. Located in the Flatiron District, the restaurant feels like stepping into another era -- ornate Thai décor, warm lighting, and beautifully detailed interiors that make the whole experience feel a little special from the moment you walk in. We did make a reservation (thank you, Resy -- and my Amex Platinum definitely came in handy for booking), but just a heads up: everyone in your party has to be present before they seat you. When we arrived there was still quite a crowd and we had to wait a bit, which seems pretty common here given how popular the place is. Once seated, the food was truly the highlight. The flavors were incredibly authentic and thoughtfully prepared. We ordered a variety of dishes to share along with drinks and desserts, and everything was packed with rich Thai spices and balance. You can really tell this isn't just typical takeout-style Thai food -- the dishes feel refined and carefully crafted. The only downside of the evening was the time limit on the table. After spending over $250 on dinner, we were told there was a strict two-hour seating window and were asked to wrap up fairly quickly. I completely understand restaurants needing to manage reservations, especially in busy Manhattan dining rooms, but we probably just needed another 10-15 minutes to finish our conversation. It was a little surprising since we had also waited quite a while before being seated. That said, the evening was still lovely overall -- great food, beautiful setting, and celebrating with good company always makes the experience better. If you're looking for elevated Thai cuisine in NYC with a gorgeous atmosphere, Thai Villa is definitely worth visiting. First of all, the place has a nice waiting area to wait in for your whole party to join. You are then escorted to your table. The first thing I noticed was how hard they worked on the decor and the vibe of the place. It's elegant yet cozy and warm due to the light arrangement. As for the food itself, it was delicious and flavorful. We had the lamb, the chicken and a seafood dish with squid and crab, which was my personal favorite with the pineapple fried rice. They could be a bit more generous with the portions and the staff less pushy on drinks. Overall a great dining experience. The food was pretty good, and I really enjoyed the mushroom soup that comes with the lunch special. I got the Pad See Ew was nothing too memorable or spectacular, but also not bad. The atmosphere is still stunning and really well designed, but it does get quite noisy, especially when it's busy. Is it too much to expect good service and authentic food? At Thai Villa the answer is yes. This is one of those run of the mill Thai restaurants that goes crazy overboard on the ambience with only OK food and less than stellar service. I eat a lot of Thai food and I even make it at home. I found Thai Villa is not very serious about giving you authentic Thai food. I ordered shrimp Pad Ped which was described as having Thai eggplant. However, the dish I received had zucchini and no Thai eggplant to be found. I just happen to hate zucchini, but also I expect my food to come as described. Even worse, the server tried to convince me that the dish was not supposed to come with Thai eggplant. Then when I showed her the menu, she insisted that zucchini was eggplant. So this is a place where the customer isn't right and the wait staff is condescending. She said she couldn't make the dish with Thai eggplant for some reason so I ordered a different dish, Pad Prik King with shrimp. Ample shrimp, but it was too sweet and barely any string beans. On the plus side the presentation of the food is very fancy. The bathrooms are very clean and ornate just like the ambience. They also have a full bar, which I'm sure makes the food go down easier. read more

This review honestly pains me to write because Thai Villa has always been one of our absolute favorite Thai spots We had just finished a 48-hour journey and landed in New York. Even though we could've gone straight home to Miami, we purposely stopped in New York because we were craving Thai Villa. Since we were staying in Newport, NJ where they don't deliver, we went through the hassle of arranging an Uber courier pickup so we wouldn't have to go into the city while completely exhausted. After 3-4 driver cancellations (because no one wanted to drive across to New Jersey) and about 2 hours, we finally received our food. The issue: when ordering, we very clearly stated we are vegetarian and NO EGGS (I'm also allergic to eggs) and reiterated this multiple times. Unfortunately, 4 out of the 5 dishes we ordered had eggs. One container was even labeled "no egg," but we still found several pieces of egg inside. We called the restaurant and they were very apologetic. They checked with the kitchen and ended up comping the entire order, which we appreciated. But honestly, that wasn't the point--we were just really looking forward to eating the food after such a long trip. On top of that, we had already spent quite a bit on the courier service. I understand that with popularity comes a higher chance of mistakes, but this experience was really disappointing. I still love the food here, but the quality of service we experienced this time makes me hesitant, and I may have to start looking for another Thai spot. read more

The curry puffs had a nice flavor as well despite being much softer on the outside than we prefer. ENTREES: We ordered pad krapraw with beef, chicken pad Thai, Thai fried rice, and pad se-ew. The pad krapraw with beef had a nice aroma and spiciness; however, the beef was tough! The chicken pad Thai was standard. The Thai fried rice and pad se-ew were just okay. Our waiter looked crushed when he saw we all had food left and none of us cared for a to-go container. SERVICE: Service was initially warm and friendly and became absent-minded as our meal progressed. I asked for extra napkins three times before being presented with one paper napkin. To eat, the Pad Se Ew with mock duck was a winner - so nice to see vegan meat substitutes on the menu besides just tofu! For dessert, the Thai Tea Lava Cake was such a delicious spin on the traditional lava cake - I just wish it was bigger! We started off with the curry puffs from the classics menu, which were light and not too greasy. We decided to order some different dishes instead of the typical Thai fare that we usually choose. So I ordered one of the specialties, the Chilean Seabass in aromatic coconut milk, which our waiter said was one of their most popular fish dishes, and my girlfriend ordered the Short Rib Panang from the "privileged" menu. Both were large portions and were delicious. We opted to add in a noodle dish and got pad see ew which was also wonderful. The sauce was thick and hearty and not too sweet. We ordered two drinks off of the specialty drink menu and both were as advertised. I feel like sometimes the specialty drinks at Thai restaurants can lean towards overly sweet, but not these. Tables for two along the wall are pretty close together, but that's standard for NYC. There's a small upstairs space that also has seating. Definitely make sure you take a peek up at the ceiling... lots of funky, lighting, and gold. Definitely aesthetic. Thai Villa is definitely a solid choice for Thai food and it deserves its high rating. This honestly may be a sleeper hit for one of the best Thai restaurants in nyc. I never really hear people talking about this spot and it can be pretty busy but it's not impossible to get into. The restaurant is gorgeous on the inside with a lot of tables. I got the red curry and royal pad Thai and both were flavor explosions. It was also very comparable to the food I had in Thailand. The royal pad Thai had a sort of egg netting around it which reminded me of a popular spot in Bangkok that does something similar. The presentations were fantastic and the staff was also lovely. The tofu was on the chewier side, not my favorite texture, but others might not mind it. We also had a lychee martini. Very strong, a little too alcohol-forward for me and consequently not much lychee flavor came through. All in all, solid food, beautiful space, and worth a visit. It's super popular because while I was waiting for her to arrive, I heard the hostess say they had no more availability for the night. She found it to be too strong but she still drank it. The waiter was super nice and bubbly. He will explain everything to you if you ask and also gave us the specials. The menu is ginormous so ask for help if you can. I can't remember the names of the dishes we got but she got some sort of fried rice special and I got one of the curries with beef that was super spicy, but a good kind of spicy. Food is excellent and I don't get to eat Thai food that often because my husband doesn't like Thai. It gets busy very fast so it gets noisy for sure. If you want to eat here, make a reservation and make it in advance. As I mentioned above, reservations go like hotcakes and the restaurants fills up. If you're walking in, be prepared to wait.
