Surprised this place has such high reviews. Its very standard Thai food. I ordered beef on basil fried rice + egg yolk (can't remember the name). The beef was cooked really well and was tasty, but the rice was way too salty. Fortunately they were generous with the beef. At $35 though, they probably should have been. My friend had pork over rice (lunch special), and they were really stingy with his pork. Dish consisted mainly of rice. Service was fine
some dishes are definitely better than others! the crispy duck was pretty dry and tough unfortunately. the soft shell crab curry was a little too sweet and pretty simple, I wish there were more ingredients. overall still many menu options!
Was very lucky to get into this super busy Thai place and so glad we did! This is a very well-run establishment. Orders are taken and placed immediately and food is brought out quickly. Loved not having to sit around waiting. The garden roll was so fresh, bursting with veggies and the sauce it came with was really good. The pad Thai with chicken was delicious. The pad se-we's noodles we felt were slightly rubbery but by no means terrible.
The inside of the restaurant is styled really cool with the feel of being in a different country. There is a huge space in the restaurant, which can accommodate large and small groups alike. Definitely make a reservation so you can get a table because it's popular. The lights kept flicking in and out strangely and dimming and undimming which was strange. They told us we only had the table for 1.5 hours. In my entire life and in Michelin and non- Michelin alike experiences, this was the first time I've ever been given a time limit to eat. Wild! We were a group of four and were offered sparkling or tap. When we drank the water though, they never proactively brought more, we had to ask. I ordered a super refreshing mocktail with orange in it that was better than I expected. My biggest qualm with the menu is that the spice levels were off from expected, which is sad as someone who can't tolerate much spice. Had I known things were low in spice generally, we would have actually all ordered differently. That said, everything we got ranged from excellent to good, with most things in the very good realm. Our order included: Appetizers (amazing): pork belly (not spicy), curry pancake Mains: -Pad Thai: very good -Pad Se-Ew chicken: excellent, not spicy -Short Rib Massaman: excellent, spice level warning felt fake and if I had known, I would have gotten it instead of the Se-Ew -Massaman curry: good, also not spicy Overall, already recommended this spot to friends and really enjoyed it! Solid spot that could be exceptional with a few tweaks of being more attentive to drinks, explaining the spice levels, and figuring out the lighting variations.
A Michelin Bib Gourmand establishment that fits comfortably in NYC's amazing Thai food scene. Food: We got various dishes family style including papaya salad, pranakhon salad, crab fried rice, khao soi haeng, pla nung manow (fish), and duck curry. The highlights were the dry khao soi, a contrast of stir fried egg noodles and hard crispy noodles in delicious, spicy aromatics and tender slices of beef, and the duck curry, creamy and gently spiced red curry with a plump juicy piece of duck on top. Flavors were hitting nicely. Another sleeper hit was the papaya salad. Not too sour or fishy, and just right. Service: Excellent Ambiance: Vibrant trendy decor calling back to its Thai street food roots. It's a beautiful space. Playful while also being respectful.
We were looking for a dinner spot close to the Drunken Shakespeare performance we would be seeing later. This spot had something for everyone -- and all of our dietary restrictions. I appreciated the gluten free and vegan options. The red curry dish was excellent, while others also enjoyed their various meals. The wait staff was incredibly efficient and pleasant. And the food was delivered quickly and was delicious. There are many Thai places to try in NYC, make sure this one is at the top of your list.
I read that Pranakhon was amazing and figured I'd have to check it out. Located near Union Square, the restaurant itself is spacious. You really got the vibe that you were in a section of Thailand, and I guess that was the point. It was a hot day and although they had AC, the restaurant was still a bit warm. We ordered the Mama More Fire, Bamee Ped, and the Pad Krapow. To be honest, the food was just okay. It's like a 3/3.5. The service was about the same. There's nothing wrong with these dishes but they're far from the best I've had. There are better options for Thai if I'm being honest. I don't think we'll be back again. Especially when there are so many better options in the city.

We were a walk in for dinner and so we had to wait around 40 minutes. It's more spacious than what you see from the outside. The restaurant has two levels and it is very popular. This spot I believe has a bib gourmand which helps with popularity. Food wise the fish we got was the best and the pad Thai was just okay -- too salty. The service was efficient, you can only be seated for 90 minutes.
Busy during dinner hours! Finally got a reservation to try their food. The decoration is fun and inspired by Thai elements. We got seated in a busy area and the waiters were still attentive. We ordered: - Fried taro: 5/5 - was the highlight, I'm biased because I love taro. The tofu skin is thin and crispy. The taro is well cooked. The combo works so well together. - Tofu jian: 4/5 - the steamed tofu was silky. The flavor was great. The spices were on point.
2nd time at pranakhon and this time I came as a walk in during lunch hours. I wished the workers a happy thai new years and that went ignored and felt like the hostess were stuck up. Service wasnt good and we had to flag down someone for assistance multiple times. Kept it simple this time and got the chicken fried rice and the roast pork w egg noodles dish. It wasnt out of this world and ive had better. It was good but not great. We asked for our food to go and they took so long we just left. Wont be coming back, the customer service needs to be worked on.

I enjoyed the ambiance of this thai restaurant. The wait staff were all wearing motorcycle taxi uniforms and very friendly, greeting us on the way in and out of the restaurant. We tried the pork mussaman and the steamed branzino. Each dish came with a bowl of rice! From what I tasted, the mussaman is like a red curry, but more mild so it had the coconut milk and sweetness flavor aspects. The potato chunks added texture to the curry and melts in your mouth! The branzino was deboned, served with a bit of green vegetables, and the waiter drizzled more of the tangy, savory sauce upon serving the dish. Quite yummy!

I'm feeling conflicted as I write this review. The place is beautifully decorated and we were seated in a corner upstairs, so it was slightly less loud than the rest of the building. We had a reservation, arrived about 3 mins after, and we still had to wait a little while to get seated, which I didn't appreciate. The service overall was very cold and not great in my opinion. The food, however, was very good. We loved our drinks, the curry pancake, and the short rib massaman. The crab fried rice was decent but definitely better at Thai Diner or Fish Cheeks. In terms of food, I would give it a 4 but service means a lot to me so a 3 it is. read more

On a trip to New York we heard we had to try this establishment. It was very accurate as it was absolutely delicious! I tried the chicken pad thai and it was one of the best I ever had! My friends and I were recommended this restaurant from a local. Do expect to wait awhile but it would be worth it. We waited for about an hour before being seated so put your patience cap on. On my next trip to NY I will definitely take a visit back! read more
Best shrimp pad thai I've had in the city! The portions are generous, curries are flavorful and the food comes out super fast. Service is very quick and always on alert. Yes, it's loud and tables are close as expected in NYC so be ready for that. The decor is really nice though. We ordered their papaya salad, khao soi, the braised branzino, and a seasonal crab noodle dish. I thought the khao soi was interesting as it was a beef dry noodle dish instead of the typical noodle soup with chicken. I'm not sure if this is a regional twist or if they are 2 distinct dishes, but this beef version was a new take that I enjoyed. The branzino was also great - I love the tangy sauce that the fish cooks in. The crab noodles did not have as much crab as I'd thought it would, so it missed the mark for me. read more

Came to Pranakhon on a Tuesday night for dinner. Had a 6:30 PM reservation and was seated right away. The place was lively and busy, but not overwhelming. We ordered hor mok hoi mang phu, som tum, crab fried rice, kanom jean, green curry (kang keaw wan), Thai iced tea, and ma na. The Thai iced tea was sweet and creamy, and the ma na was super refreshing with a slight ginger kick. The hor mok hoi mang phu was really good. Mussels topped with curry paste and coconut milk. Spicy but balanced, and the coconut milk mellowed out the heat nicely. The som tum also known as papaya salad was fresh and flavorful. You get that sweet and tangy taste first, then the spice slowly creeps up on you. Definitely packs a punch but in a good way. The crab fried rice was a big portion and a nice break from all the spice. Tons of crab and very comforting. The green curry was delicious but honestly very spicy. It came with noodles, which went really well with the green curry. The flavor was excellent, though next time I'll definitely ask for less spice. I mentioned to the staff one of the dish was a little too spicy and the staff immediately offered to switch it, which I appreciated. I kept it anyway because the flavor was there. Service was friendly and attentive overall. Solid food, bold flavors, and a fun vibe. Would definitely come back. read more

Heard so many great things about Pranakhon and was so thrilled to finally visit! I was already in awe of the interior because it is BEAUTIFUL, and you feel truly immersed in a small alley in Bangkok with all the decor and architecture. I consulted heavily to some previous reviews so I knew I had to get the short rib massaman. For starters, we got a classic somtum (papaya salad) and the moo grob kua prik gua, and in addition to the short rib, we also got the crab fried rice so that we had a good balance of our carbs/greens/proteins. Somtum (3/5): A 3 as in it's a solid papaya salad, just a very simple dish that wasn't anything special but still satisfies your papaya salad cravings. Moo grob kua prik gua (5/5): This one's got a KICK for sure, but I loved it so much. The seasoning and spiciness works so well with the savoriness of the pork, and the skin is perfectly crisp yet the pork belly itself is nice and chewy. Crab fried rice (4/5): Similar to the somtum, this was a very solid and simple fried rice. In my most opinionated opinion, it's a bit $$$ considering (besides the crab) its just eggs and scallions in rice, but the execution was nonetheless superb and the crab meat was truly the most tender thing. Short rib massaman (5/5): As expected, and I was worried that my expectations were TOO high, I LOVED the short rib massaman. It's reminiscent of a curry with the rich, creamy coconut milk and such luscious meat, literally melts in your mouth. The sweet and savory works so well together, and especially with the rest of the other plates, they all play their part so well and come together harmoniously. Portion was also pretty sizable, at least for 2 people, maaybeee 3. I will say it gets a little heavier towards the end when it cools off, so definitely enjoy it when it's nice and warm. Service, despite having such a packed restaurant on a Wednesday night, was so meticulous and helpful. Our waiter checked in with us regularly and helped us digest the menu because we were just so excited and overwhelmed LOL. Definitely a place that I will be coming back to because their menu and dishes are such a treasure!! read more

very reliable and probably my favorite thai place that i've been to in the city! the ma nee is a very yummy non alcoholic drink that reminded me of a dole whip! it's a bit expensive for a non alcoholic drink but that's nyc :/ 10/10 drink otherwise! the pak boong moo krob was also a great dish! the pork belly was super crispy and yummy and i didn't realize morning glory is just water spinach lol but it was good! 9/10 the other dishes were fine. i don't think the khao moo dang is anything special. the short rib massaman was fine and so was the crab fried rice. i would rate the khao moo dang a 6/10 and the crab fried rice and massaman 7-8/10. i think the only thing i didn't really like out of everything that i've eaten here is nuer yang. it was pretty fatty and i don't think it was super tender. i know it's wagyu but i definitely don't think it's the best quality wagyu out there. the service is pretty good and the restaurant itself has a very unique theme. they've got like a taxicab/train setup going on inside the restaurant which i think is super fun. great thai restaurant i always recommend it to people! also it's right next to mimi's and in the same area as caffe panna so if you want a sweet treat after it's the perfect spot to go to! read more

One of my fav Thai spots in NYC. Not surprised it has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand. I have only dined in once and have mostly done delivery or pickup for but all the dishes I have tried are delicious. read more
My co-worker raved about Pranakhon. We made reservation in a week in advance. On Tuesday night, this restaurant was crowded. The noise level is quite loud. I have to admit the waiter was attentive. He was always there to refill our glasses. Also, I dropped my fork and he was very quick to get me a new one. I highly recommend the short rib massaman. The meat was very tender and the curry was a tad spicy. It comes with a bowl of jasmine rice. Overall, it was a delicious meal. I would definitely come back again. read more

Wow, truly a hidden gem of NYC! Atmosphere was INSANE and the food definitely sets the bar for me. We ordered tons of food but services were nice and attentive and fast! 1. Curry pancake (5/5): omg this has got to be the most unique dish I've had. The sauce was refreshing and a little bit different than what I'm used to but it was so amazing I would definitely get this again! 2. Tom yum shrimp (4/5): such a comforting dish for a rainy day! It was sour and flavorful. I wish it was a bit less salty but it has a lot of shrimp! Definitely shareable 3. Short rib massaman (5/5): WOW, I just kept laughing eating this dish because I was so amazed with all the flavors included. Truly one of a kind! The meat was soft and the flavor was PACKED. Ate with rice and it was amazing! 100% would get again 4. Pad Thai (3/5): yhis dish uses a different types of noodles than what I'm used to and is a bit dry. Wow I am absolutely floored (in the best way possible) - we love Thai food and have been to a lot of restaurants in the city that do the usual pad thai / pad see ew well but not for unique dishes until stepping foot into this authentic bazaar esque vibe establishment that reminded me of Lisa from Blackpink / White Lotus! We ordered: Curry Pancake Mama More Fire Green Curry w/Chicken The pancake appetizer came with this translucent sugar, sweet relish sauce that took us aback but went so well with the dish (wish they had a vegetable version though!). If there's one thing you need to order from Pranakhon, it's Mama More Fire because the broth / ingredients / flavor profiles were indeed, included in the name: fire. The menu is quite overwhelming yet helpful with the corresponding images so I would definitely recommend taking a pre-read / glance when waiting for your table. Oh on top of that, reservations are best, we took the walk in - make a reservation approach and that was not really ideal. Service is very on point, they always made sure the food was to our liking (I can't imagine halfway eating the food and saying it's not to liking) and ensuring that our glasses were filled with water. Not surprised they're constantly busy and there's a consistent inflow of people coming in and out - just speaks to their aesthetics / vibes / good food. read more
Rated as one of the top Thai spots in NYC and a recent Michael Bib Gourmand, this restaurant is the perfect spot to enjoy some great Thai food. I would recommend booking a reservation here ahead of time (by a week, especially for weekends) as it gets very busy. The interior is spacious with lots of tables and beautiful decor reminiscent of Thailand's streets. We ordered their papaya salad, shrimp egg rolls, and curry pancake for appetizers. For mains, we got their braised beef, soft shell crab curry, tom kha, and crab fried rice. Portions here were so generous and everything was delicious. My favorites were the braised beef and the soft shell crab curry as they were so rich, creamy, and flavorful and paired really well with rice. The crab fried rice was another favorite at our table. Service here is very attentive, but I did notice that they REALLY tried to upsell us on everything. We definitely were recommended more dishes than we needed (we didn't even order as much as our waitress recommended) and for dessert, half of our table didn't want dessert so we told our waitress we wanted something small. She recommended four orders of the coconut pudding, but did not tell us that each serving already came with FOUR bowls. Had we known, we would've only ordered one. read more

We came in for dinner on Christmas Eve. And it was super crowded. The vibe was so festive and celebratory, particularly the people sitting at the bar. We had a reservation, so we were seated a short while after we arrived. We fully enjoyed the delicious food and vibrant atmosphere. We ordered several items: crab fried rice, Branzino sea bass, Mama More Fire, sautéed veggies and a couple of non-alcoholic drinks. Among these dishes, we really liked the steamed branzino fish, which was fresh and tender with the savory lime sauce poured on top at the table. The whole fish was so delicious! The crab fried rice was equally good. We loved the chunky crab meat, and the rice was moist and without being too oily. The sautéed veggies were flavorful. The mocktails were great! We got the Via Nee (Jackfruit and orange) and Via. Both were refreshing and fruity. We particularly liked the Vera drink, which was sweet and citrusy with a delicate note of rosemary. Highly recommended! Our server was friendly and attentive, considering how busy the night was. All the tables were full. We loved the food and the vibe. Pranakhon has been on my list for a while, and I finally was able to try! I got a reservation, and we were seated promptly after checking in. Inside has lots of tables and it was beautifully decorated with Thai decor. The servers also wore traffic vests to simulate the "street food" ambiance. We asked our server Artty for recommendations, and he was the best! We got the Short Rib Massaman, Khao Soi Haeng, Curry Pancake, and Thai Tea. The food came out so quick, and we dug straight in. Every bite was a 10/10. The curry pancake had a hearty filling, flaky exterior, not oily at all, and with that sweet, tangy sauce...truly the perfect bite! The Khao Soi Haeng was also very good with flavorful noodles and beautifully cooked steak. It has a slight tang and umami taste to it. Our favorite bite was definitely the Short Rib Massaman. It was sweet, flavorful, and the short rib was tender and soft. Complimenting the rice so well, I loved the massaman. Artty checked on us often and we had such a great time under his care! AMBIANCE: 8/10 -Cute street-food themed aesthetic -Clean single-stall, neutral-gender bathrooms -Wouldn't choose it as a date spot, but great for more casual outings SERVICE: 10/10 -Our server (Number 9, as his vest had written) was super friendly and gave a full rundown of the menu when we said we were there for the first time. We didn't feel rushed at all despite us being indecisive on what to get for a while. He checked back a couple times throughout the dinner-just enough for our needs without being overbearing! -Another waiter also kept a close eye on our water and refilled our glasses frequently. More on top of it than most other restaurants I've been to! -All the waiters we passed on the way out from dinner said bye and wished us a good night-friendly and cheerful staff all across the board :) FOOD Bamee Moo Dang: 7/10 -Dish came with noodles and two different types of meat (one was pork belly) -Flavor was a bit lacking, but not a bad dish overall Krapow Moo Krob: 7.5/10 -Less sweet than the Krapow Moo Krobs I've had previously! pranakhon They have a 1.5 hour seating limit. We came in on a Wednesday at a7:30 and got seated at 7:41. We ordered: Thai ice tea ($8). It was good but nothing too different from other thai ice teas. Curry pancakes ($18)- 9/10. The sauce adds a lot to the taste. The curry is also not too strong but can definitely taste on the first bite. i'm Khao Soi Haeng ($30) -9/10 This is quite spicy with their chili. The steak is well marinated. The noodles are quite good too pairs well with the spice. It comes medium rare. Khao Yum ($27). This had sesame in it so we had to switch it out Krapow Moo Sub ($24) - 7/10. This also uses sesame oil. I really like basil pork fried rice and it hit the spot for me. We had extras to take home. Overall would come back to try new menu items. They are very accommodating for allergies. We forgot to tell them about sesame allergies. This was more than enough for for 2 people. read more
