We went to dinner at Chago's last week and I'm a little late in posting my review. Previously (IMO) all Mexican tastes the same to me. News Flash...Chago's is pleasantly different! The queso was delicious! It had a unique delicious flavor to it. The chips were fresh and warm, delicious as well! I was not starving so I opted for a beef taco and a birria taco although the birria quesadilla was suggested. Both tacos were delicious! My hubs ordered the birria quesadilla and OMG! He said it was the best quesadilla he's ever had. With that statement I had to try it as well. It was delicious!! As far as atmosphere, the remodel is really nice! It's bright and has a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The hostess was a young lady, Lillis, and she was outstanding and very engaging for a young person. Our server was Levi and he was also outstanding as well! The GM Kevin came by to speak and in observing him interact with guests, staff and helping out with table service I can see why the crew are happy to be working there. Mexican-ish restaurant located on belmont campus. We went on a Wednesday night and it was all self-serve/ order at the window, which is different than it used to be. They do have happy hour until 6. $1 off Mexican beers and $2 off the house margarita. I wouldn't recommend the house, tastes pretty artificial and strong sour mix taste. Ordered chips and salsa for $3, which we don't mind, but the salsa was a really small serving and no refills. My husband got fajitas and I got a burrito bowl. Bowl looked a bit dry when it was served so I asked for a side of salsa (came with nothing), food runner said I would have to order it back at the counter. It luckily had guac so that was a decent substitute but overall would give it a 6/10. read more

The honey chili sauce paired with the saltines of the pork, although not overpowering, was a beautiful symphony flavors on my palate. Truly enjoyed my pork belly taco and my shrimp taco. Their Caiprihanha (sort of a margarita meets a mojito) was good too.

Well, we knew the previous owner very well and he told us this restaurant was re-opening under the same name and they had done some improvements. So we were eager to try it out. To ensure it was open because of our 30 minute drive and our ordeal to have to park. I pulled it up on social media and low and behold it says they're open! We eagerly climbed into the car made the trip went through the chaotic parking process got out, walked across the street barely making it alive and intact, barely and due to the crazy drivers, we approach the door (signs, reflecting the specials in great deals. They have all on display... and felt as though we were being welcome, and only to find out they have a private party! Could not get in of course! My question is why in the hell in this day and age can't people post that sort of thing online so we don't waste our time, apparently, our time means absolutely nothing gives me an indicator of what's going on in this organization? Touring the local colleges, we ventured here based on a local recommendation. I had read the not so thrilled Yelp! reviews, but a local recommendation trumped that for my family. It is close to Belmont University and even though we were there during a Christmas break, there were clearly a number of students eating there. I guessed that portions would be good since college students often think quantity over quality and I was right, at least about the quantity issue. We started with some outstanding quest and guacamole, the quest was good, but the guacamole was outstanding, at least to my palate. After that we opted for the dishes recommended to us. Pollo Gringo - plentiful and tasty, smothered in quest and added the veggies which made the dish. Highly recommended. Burritto - ordered by my son, good but not glowing reviews. Tacos - there are so many, but the favorite was pork belly. Our server was nothing short of phenomenal and she balanced professional, personal and service to a "T". Why not five stars? Price. It is a little bit more expensive than what you can find in similar restaurants. But the food is good. read more

Is it possible to nurse a chips and salsa hangover? Oh, yes. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Chago's yesterday and although 3 "Skinny" margs were part of my visit, I over-indulged in basket after basket of toasty tortilla chips and salsa. Add some hummus as a side and I sealed my fate. The "vegetarian" burrito that I ordered didn't disappoint either and I smirked with happiness at all of the veg-friendly options clearly denoted on the menu. Our server was also very friendly and had perfect timing as she knew exactly when I needed to top off another margarita and kept the chips coming. With a spacious and dimly lit indoor seating area in addition to patio dining, this is a perfect spot for happy hour, meetings, or a date. Prices were very fair too as after splitting our bill, I spent around $40 for my 3 drinks, hummus dip, appetizer, and dinner. I will be adding Chago's to my rotation especially for their generous happy hour Monday - Friday 3-7pm. 1/2 price on Chago-ritas, domestic drafts, and Sangira (Sunays). Chago's is well known around Nashville for their Mexican food. However, I have one secret menu item that is far off from the usual taco, queso, and rice. This secret item is the chicken tortilla soup. The value alone is what first drew me! It's only $4 for a healthy portion of shredded chicken that has been simmering in a delicious broth! This soup also comes with jalapeño peppers, shredded cabbage, a fresh pico, and shredded tortilla chips to top it off! For a vegetarian, their burrito plate was a little better than average. The chips were meh - I personally do not like cold chips and salsa, if you're going to have something Mexican themed, at least chuck your chips in an oven. Place also wins an award for most odd bathroom... first off, you walk down a barely lit hall and hope you're going into the right bathroom as, it's unreadable in the dim light. It was my brother-in-law's graduation from Belmont, and my husband and I were helping him move out of this dorm. Of course manual labor leads to a hankering of food (usually carbs), so we went to Chago's across the street from Belmont. I was both happy and surprised to see both vegan and vegetarian options! Everywhere else I've been in the South, it is very rare to find vegetarian yet along vegan options! How nice :) We were seated quickly and had quite the spread before us. So sorry this is not Mofongo just sweet mashed plantains w/none of the traditional condiments such as garlic sauce & should be actually made w/green plantains. I ordered Chichen taco, by the time it came to my table it was cold, had no flavor &tortilla broke into pieces. We made the mistake to sit outside, & although we had a huge fan blowing @our table, numerous flies were on everythind:salsa, chips, water, wine, beer etc. I guess it's ok for the average student who comes here for the beer & late hrs. I would not recommend this for a dinner or lunch, just beer@ late hrs. Wine brought to me as "Merlot" is actually some cheap Cabernet. I give 2 stars for the waitress service. The first time I came here was for a Yelp sponsored Tequila Tasting event. It's been awhile since then but I remember it being a pretty tasty Latin spot. We got there about 5:45 and it was pretty darn packed and parking wasn't too bad. Get there after 6 and you would probably have to walk a little farther. The reason for going this time was an excuse to hang out with the girls during happy hour (3-7PM) and try their Shrimp Mofongo (delicious and totally worth $14). I met a few girls at Chago's for happy hour last week, and we had a great time! Chago's is casual and trendy - and the happy hour was great! Happy Hour is Monday through Friday 3-7, and they have great drink specials (no food specials sadly): $4 house margaritas, $3 select drafts, $4 local drafts, $5 chardonnay and Pinot Noir! I had one beer and one margarita, and I was pleased both with their beer selection and their margarita! Chago's is a Mexican/Latin/Caribbean fusion restaurant. They have tacos, burritos, fajitas, nachos, and quesadillas, but they also have mofongo and pupusas! (They also have an extensive vegetarian section of the menu if you're eating out with a vegetarian: nachos, a burrito, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadilla, chile relleno, and a veggie plate.) Their menu of tacos is extensive as well! The menu is varied and sure to have something for most palates and tastes! I tried the pupusas, which were good (although you can get better pupusas at strictly El Salvadoran places on Nolensville Road), but it was a ridiculous amount of food: two bean and cheese pupusas, rice and beans, and curtido (the picked salad that goes on top of the pupusas). I don't think I even finished half my plate! The restaurant is pretty big (with two outdoor patios on either side) and had great decor. The service was great as well! Went here for an Elite Yelp Party, I have to say that the place is cozy and very welcoming. The staff is friendly and helpful. Only had a chicken taco, but they were wonderful. If you're looking for some good and affordable tacos in Nashville this is the place to go! While nothing was amazing per say, the pork belly tacos (and my boyfriend got the fajitas) were tasty. My downfall was the service. We were seated and a host had to remind a waiter to take care of us. Our waiter was nice; however, came infrequently. You failed me Chago's!! I was super excited for my first visit. I knew they had pupusas on the menu and I was finally ready to see what they were made of. Well, pupusa you are not! It was more of a tostada. I was sad. :( Things go inside of the pupusa, not on top of it!! I left confused, what type of establishment are you Chago's?? I found my favorite margarita in town; not too sweet or sour. Just right. And strong! I could seriously demolish a pitcher by myself if left unattended too long. I tried the shrimp tacos, which were simple but delicious. They have lots of herbs and spice, and just the right amount of cilantro and chopped onions. The tortilla was crispy but still malleable in my hands, the way I prefer them. Chago's is next to PM in the Belmont area, so it's in a great spot to hang out with friends or on a date. My daughter is a regular here. Whenever we visit, this a a definite stop. Food is consistently very good. Tonight was before it got busy, food was brought out very quickly. Walked down to my neighborhood restaurant for dinner. I see people inside drinking at the bar, so happy to see it was open at 8:30 in the evening. Opened the door to walk in - and was waved off by those at the bar, wait staff, I presume. "We're closed." Handwritten sign on the door: "We're closed. Power went out a couple of times."
