Been to many taquerias around the valley, chaguitos definitely has the best tortas in the valley. They make their own bread for the torta right there, they're carne asada is always fresh and tasty. This is my all time favorite mexican restaurant! I currently live in LA and nothing compares to this place! I grew up always coming here and everything I get is always good along as cheap. some of the best soda also, the horchata is ok. I would recommend the burrito, torta, or nachos. read more

Working out in porterville and was craving a asada quesadilla. Stopped by and had to purchase some delicious pan dulce! The quesadilla was good, could be a bit bigger but overall okay. Lived in Porterville my whole life. Loved Chaguito's when it was a white building with a small sit in restaurant and a pick-up, about 10 or 15 years ago they rebuilt the new restaurant in the same location. I have been visiting the establishment for decades now; went their last week and ordered tortas for the whole family. They gave everyone really bad stomach upset and diarrhea that lasted about 24 hours. No telling what was wrong with the food. I referenced this bakery (now also a restaurant) in my review for Panchitas... this place is amazing, this is where I got my fix for pan dulce for the first 18 years of my life, my dad would always take us and let us pick the bread we wanted and it was soooo good! The original owner was this sweet little old man who always practically gave the bread away...needless to say he didnt remain a cashier but this place was able to remodel and now has DELICIOUS mexican food, aguas frescas and the pan dulce... if you are ever in Porterville (which I am not sure why you would be) then stop here for some goodness ;) read more

Great food! I love all of the different choices here. From the pollo to the carnitas, it is all pretty good. The Tortas and taco asadas are my favorite. The only reason it is not a 5 star rating is because every now and then the meat is just lukewarm. However, the flavor is great. read more

I have been going here for a log time and it is still one of my favorites palaces to get a carne asada torta! Good food at a fair price.

Great mexican sweet bread for anything on the west side, but the quality has seemed to go down. The past few times I went here the meat never tasted right, and the last time I went it was confirmed. The adobada tasted like 100 cinnamon sticks were used, it was unique but not good or balanced. I hope they one day standardize their recipes and train their cooks to not have this happen. I used to come here all the time back in 1987 to 1991 to pick up lunch for my boss, Carlos Martinez, Warnack Pharmacy, myself, and most everyone else! I used to always get the torta and Carlos always got three mexican tacos and sometimes we would get some sweet bread. It was just our little tradition! The food was amazing and the bread was too! It used to be a tiny little place with one table and about the size of Little Ceasers Pizza lobby. Everyone was always so nice! Going back to Porterville, I went and visited Carlos and Pam Martinez, now that Warnack Pharmacy is but a memory and I asked if Chaguitos was still around. Well when I went to go get some food I was shocked at their transformation! The place is huge now and Bakery is awesome! I knew this place would someday be bigger, but wow! I decided to have something different, so I went with the carne asada burrito! My mouth is watering just talking about it! They've mastered that carne asada! It was so amazing and so filling....but I had to take some home to Bakersfield. I asked if they could arrange for 4 burritos to be taken to-go, except I wanted the tortilla separate so it wouldn't get soggy. The chef was gracious enough to get me all the ingredients including all the trimmings and explained to me how to put it together once I got home. They're the greatest! And it was definitely a hit with the family! I told them they should build one in Bakersfield because there is nothing like it here! I look forward to my visits to Porterville now because this is my stop nearly every time (gotta share the love with El Tap). Thank you Chaguitos for many years of great service and fabulous food! I've been coming here a long time for their pan dulce because in my opinion it is the best in town. I was never really intrigued by their food until one day I got a big craving for nachos with carne Asada so I decided to try them from here. The meat portion was huge and kinda overwhelming. I know most people would be happy that they received a lot of meat on their meal but I am not a huge meat person as it is (unless it's carnitas). The carne Asada was also very fatty and had a lot of little chunks of fat every bite I took. I didn't even finish my meal cause I was so grossed out. Fast forward 5 months later and I got a big craving for tacos de carnitas and horchata lol. My dad has bought horchata from here and I've tried it so I know it's good. I decided to try their tacos since my parents have been eating their tacos for years. I bought 4 tacos de carnitas, a plate of rice & beans and an XL drink. $10.91. Not bad considering I paid $12 for the same food at el taco Rico without a drink. They give you a good amount of meat on your tacos (which I was very happy about), the rice and bean portions were big and tasted good, plus they have a little salsa bar with veggies so you can get as much lettuce, salsa, etc as you want. They have a soda fountain so you can get yourself free refills. Overall I was very pleased and satisfied with my visit this time. I will definitely be returning. read more
