My husband and I close this restaurant to break my fast. We were greeted quickly by the hostess who led us to booth seating, and gave us menus. There was no need though, as we had already spotted the all-you-can-eat buffet. We requested only water to go with our meals; she quickly brought a carafe of chilled water and two glasses. This is a generous buffet with many selections for a complete meal, from soup and salad to dessert. There was a good variety of both meat and vegetarian options. Our FAVORITES included the fresh mixed chickpea salad (the chick peas, cucumbers, tomato, onion, parsley); lamb curry (which featured tender boneless and tender meat); rice pilau with raisins and carrots; borani badenjan (eggplant curry. Tip: drizzle yogurt on this);; bamia (okra) curry; firnee milk pudding (dessert); and the addictive dooth pati chai (spiced milk tea). There were also some items that we didn't enjoy as much but were still good. For instance, the chicken kofta meatballs, while nicely spiced, were very dry. And, the nan bread was disappointing. (There were also many additional good choices on the buffet that are not listed here). The ambiance in the restaurant is comfortable, with many paintings and decorations from Afghanistan. Some tables are in a side room, ideal for small groups or privacy. We noticed, but didn't visit, a downstairs shop with Afghan carpets and other goods. Plus, there's a shop on the side that sells groceries. Parking is plentiful and free. The lunch buffet was $17.99 each, plus VA sales tax (6.3%), city meals tax (5.3%), credit card service free (3.5%), and tip (variable). There are cheaper options available if you order from the menu. We would return when next in Charlottesville.

They don't have falafel, but I highly recommend any of their vegetable sides. I got the 4 veggie plate and loved everything. They make amazing flatbread that is worth the trip alone. They have a pretty simple menu and tap to pay conveniently located on the counter. There is nothing in particular I would recommend as everything I've tried I'd order again. I'm catholic and would recommend the veggie plate during lent. I will say that the drink options are common and basic bottles in a refrigerator. Don't let the plain name in front fool you. This place is worth a try. I don't preorder and have never had a long wait. If you eat in, they offer you warm tea that is really appreciated during winter.

I prefer more robust flavors from Indian and specifically Pakistani food over the "salt & pepper" style seasoning (with turmeric for color) of Afghan food. I tried what they call their Shami kabob, which is actually a seekh kabob. I got a side of chick peas with it. The flavor of the kabob was actually quite nice (for Afghan food). The chick peas were as basic as I would expect from this style of food. Their potatoes looked great, but unfortunately were extremely bland and unflavored. Their naan was pretty good and perfectly baked, so it was slightly crusty while flexible enough to eat with and still flavorful. My preference if for spicier food, so I asked for an extra spicy green sauce. Fortunately, my dish came with their white sauce too. The white sauce had an incredible flavor! So much more flavor than the green sauce, even though the green sauce had slight spice, mostly from the vinegar in it. Their rice looked great and had the appropriate amount of seasoning and flavor you'd expect, regardless of style of Middle Eastern food you're enjoying. Service was excellent! They were very friendly, helpful, accommodating, and even checked on us. The place was pretty clean for a kabob joint as well.
