I also had the Thai tea. Everything was cooked to order. Hot and fresh. The egg rolls were fried crispy and came with a delicious sweet sauce. The Thai wings were okay. It's a small space in a small strip mall with seating for about 20 and a couple of tables outside. My only complaint is that the ventilation is not great. It is definitely a bit smokey in there. The employee who took my order was super friendly. It took about 10 minutes for the order to be ready. Per a review, I ordered the chicken pad Thai with the Thai spice. The order is large and provides a couple of meals. It's just the right amount of spice, a little sweet and a little spicy. I also ordered the veggie spring rolls and they were great. Chai Tai-Lao is in a small shopping center off of Jefferson Highway. Interior sit down area is minimalistic, with self-serve napkins, spoons, forks and drinks. It is accessible by wheelchair. Very, very clean which is always appreciated. You can eat in or take out. We ate there. Prices are not cheap. Total bill for two entrees (Drunken Noodles and Pepper Steak Basil) and two softs drinks, was $44. Prices of entrees and rice/noodle dishes are not even printed on the menu. Add in an appetizer and you'll need a $50 bill plus a fiver. Food was brought out very quickly, steaming hot and portions were generous. Basil pepper steak was good. Good basil taste. A little strong on the salt and had a hint of soy sauce which I'm not used to in a Thai dish. It had a ton of vegetables and beef, including red and green peppers, basil, thin sliced carrots, onions and ... string beans ... the latter of which I'm not used to seeing in my Thai dishes. A comment on the saltiness. An overuse of salt is usually a good indicator that the underlying flavor of a dish (or lack thereof) is being covered up. You'll have to judge this for yourself. The drunken noodles tasted good, a little sweet, with pretty much the same vegetables. My dining partner got it level 2 (out of 4) on the spicy scale, which was more than enough. Try levels 3 or 4 at your own peril, lol. Overall we were pleased and may be back. It's not the best Thai we've had in the Baton Rouge area, but if you're on Perkins near I-12 and hankering for some Thai, it will do. Just be prepared for the prices. read more

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to get here but I was so happy I finally made it in for lunch. For a Friday it was pretty steady and smelled amazing when I walked in the door. I decided on the Khao Soi Soup (add shrimp) after a glowing review from a fellow Elite (thanks Pacience!) and it was so yummy. Exactly what I needed. Medium spice but still woke up my sinuses, the shrimp were enormous and cooked perfectly and the broth was creamy and full of flavor. This had a good noodle to broth ratio, and if you're normal, you'll love it. I personally like less noodles so had some left over, but I slurped every bit of the broth down. I'll also say their veggie spring rolls are DELICIOUS. So crispy, so flavorful - which I love in a meatless app. My husband enjoyed them cold later that evening too! All in all it was a little more than I normally spend for lunch, but so worth it for 6 huge shrimp in a big ol bowl of soup and 3 spring rolls. As recommended I ordered ahead for lunch and gave them about 45 minutes before I arrived. Food was ready when I arrived. Unfortunately (for the staff person) the same person was serving as cashier and expo. So, once she rung up the person in front of me she went to bag up completed orders and then was able to bring me my order. All the food was still nice and fresh when I returned home. Spring rolls were crisp. Soup was yummy. Noodles were great and double what even a greedy American would need. They also had tofu in it that remained a good texture even with all the yummy sauce. I attended their grand opening and was pleased to see some familiar faces from my absolute favorite Thai restaurant in town, Thai Pepper. We ordered a variety of dishes to try. My wife loved the khao soi bowl and I enjoyed my Panang chicken lunch special. The pad Thai was standard, but good. Crab rangoons were pretty basic, as was the pork/basil stir fry. Thai food is meant to be sat down unless it's street food like chicken wings. I ordered the pad Thai, chicken wings, panang curry, and Tom yum. The pad thai's noodle was a bit undercooked but had a great flavor. The chicken wings tasted ordinary, nothing extravagant. The panang curry had a lack of depth in flavor, it was flooded with coconut cream. As someone who is a southeast Asian, the curry was a sorry excuse for it. The Tom yum however was decent. The food portion was really good for its price. Overall, I would definitely come back for the pad Thai because of its portion, and to try newer things. A new Thai place in BR!! It has a small dining area and the food is served in takeout boxes. The food is soooo good though, and just seems to stay steaming hot forever.
