The only reason this place is getting at least a 3 is because my friend likes this place and says our experience was not typical of what it's been like for her in the past. Since she likes this spot I won't totally downvote it. Also, she liked her food. But if I was solely basing it off of my own experience, I'd give them a 2! When we arrived there were maybe 12 people in the place. Not full, but clearly too much for a single person to attend to efficiently. There was only one young guy taking all the orders , bringing the food, bussing the tables, and taking the checks. He had an adorable little girl who was also helping (she's another reason the rating isn't lower--she was a darling!) The guy was pleasant, but it took a long time to even take our order. Then to bring our food. We even had to ask for utensils. I sent my food back because my pad see ew had black pepper on it which I've never seen before. I tried it and it tasted "ashy" for lack of better word. I THOUGHT it was the pepper--but the second dish which appeared not to have the pepper in/on it still tasted ashy. The beef was sliced very thin and ended up tough, and the noodles were clumped together. On the positive side, the vegetables were fresh and cooked just right. This is authentic Thai food. Weird, creepy location, but well worth it. Would go back should I find myself in the area. I tried veggie spring rolls and pad see ew with tofu. I took them to go, and they packed the spring rolls with a clever technique, cutting the corners out of the go-box, which allowed the steam to escape and kept them from losing their crunch! They come with a tasty dipping sauce, too. The pad see ew was delightfully savory with tons of flavor and the veggies were cooked just right. It was a little spicier than I'm used to, but I did ok with it. Been avoiding spice because of stomach issues. The portions were quite respectable--I saw other diners eating, and everyone had a heaping mound of food on their plate. The ambiance is nice; I'll eat there next time. It's going to hit every time. Now, they give you options for spice level but even when I check mild it's still super spicy. My daughter cannot eat gluten and this restaurant is a great gluten-free option! The food is extremely flavorful and fresh. The majority of the menu items are gluten-free with the exception of things that are fried in the fryer. They have a basil fried rice that I think it's exceptional! That I somehow missed on my previous visits to this restaurant. I had the Black Rice Dessert which was absolutely delicious. No I did not stop here for the purpose of eating the black rice dessert. This is one of my favorite restaurant in baton rouge. I miss the lunch buffet so much which is closed due to the pandemic situation. Now its a la carte but the taste is still so amazing. It completes my asian and spice cravings from time to time. This time around we ordered fried wontons they came with a shrimp filling and a spicy sauce. It tasted good but was a little too oily. We also ordered a chicken pad tai and a Basil fried rice both on the high spicy side. They were so fresh. I loved the crisp taste that come from perfectly heated wok used to make the fried rice.
