I have yet to try more food from their menu BUT I had ordered the Pad Thai Noodles level 4 spicy & it was actually spicy which is good, my only "complaint" is the price was $16 for just that item alone... mmmm seems a bit over priced specially for the amount. Our family absolutely loves this place! The staff is extremely friendly, food is prompt, and flavors are on point. While our family has been coming to this venue for years as well, however, we're not noticing the same challenges as other Yelpers mention about new ownership. The amount of crispy duck I received in my curry--about two duck breasts--is a stark difference from Yelper Pierre P's experience (and only $26?!). Overall the food is flavorful and has depth. Granted, I have not ordered the same dish from original vs. new owners, so we're not noticing the same changes as Yelper P. J. Our favorite treat is ordering boba teas ahead of time and picking 'em up for a between meal snack. So many options; all delicious! *A Note on Spice* Chai Thai offers heat levels 1 - 5 (see chili pepper icon chart on lunch side of menu). I consider myself very tolerant of heat levels (often getting "extra hot" at Dave's Hot Chicken), but IMO, curry spices are a different heat profile. I have had a level 4 curry before and my eyes were watering with every bite! Personally a 2 or 3 is plenty for me, while my wife and kids will typically stick with a 1. This place is my go to restaurant for Thai Food in the area. I made an extra effort to try different items on the menu and been impressed. What a gem! Recently changed owners a year ago and he couldn't be doing a better job! Walked in and they had a big dinner birthday party! Treated their guests wonderfully and talked with me for 5 minutes. The owner is super kind and extremely personable. I got the green curry beef and I was very pleased. Great flavor, great spice level, one of my favorite dishes I e had in a while. My family got a plethora of other things like basil chicken, sweet and sour stir fry and orange chicken all with great reports. The ratings of this restaurant are all over the place! Our first and only experienced was great. The food was excellent. We were served by the owner/cook (we think) and she was very nice. And the ambiance was cute and charming! We were served on fancy Chinet but we didn't mind. We were also told that sometimes they close the dining area at dinner time when business is slow. So based on this and the fact that there were no servers during lunch time... we thought that maybe they did these things to keep afloat... and that may explain the mixed reviews. We ordered takeout and our order was correct and ready for pickup when we arrived. The pork potstickers and shrimp rolls were delicious and the tofu drunken noodles were good as well although i was hoping for a few more veggies. The Thai pepper beef in garlic sauce was a big disappointment. Usually when we order this dish elsewhere, the beef is tender. I did ask the order taker on the phone if the beef would be tender and he replied that it was ribeye, but it was so tough (perhaps too overcooked) it ruined the dish. We will probably return as 3 out of 4 were good to very good. Just stay away from the beef! read more

I stopped in for lunch yesterday and I was really surprised with how nice it was inside. The seating was comfortable and it was very bright and nicely decorated inside. Our son who has multiple food allergies had an anaphylaxis after eating here. The restaurant owner clearly and confidently said the food did not have any allergens (gluten, eggs, dairy). Moments after eating, we had to give our son an EpiPen and rush him to the ER. Tried them on a recent weekend night for the first time. I saw good reviews until recently, so I was a bit skeptical, but still decided to order. We got pad woon sen with chicken and pad see ew with chicken. We also ordered the "fresh roll" which is soft rice paper with lettuce, shrimp, basil, etc. those were 2 for $8... expensive. Very nice little restaurant in a small strip mall. The entry area is small but nicely decorated. It was quite cold sitting there waiting for the food though. The people working at the counter were very nice and offered us water as we waited. Prices were high (over $40 for the two dishes and appetizer) and the size was smaller than all other Thai restaurants I've been to. The meals came in the smaller version of the black plastic "meal prep" tray with clear plastic lid. The noodle dishes were hot and made with good quality ingredients, but were lacking flavor in every aspect. This is not what I'm used to with Thai food, and I've seen similar comments in other reviews. The chicken was bright white and cooked well. The fresh rolls were bland as well and I didn't taste any basil. The sauce that came with the fresh rolls was different from what I've had as well, but it was tasty and had crushed peanuts on the top. They did not include any sauce for the noodle dishes. Maybe that would've helped. I would not recommend Chai Thai based on this visit and won't go back, but I wouldn't say it was terrible; just lacking in flavor and overpriced. read more

We had not ordered recently , maybe for months, since we always order when visiting family in Plainfield. We have ordered for years since their opening , including through the pandemic. I could tell right away there were new owners- hours had changed , different appetizers (no more moneybags!), menu looked different. Bad news is that the food is no longer special. Which is too bad. Agree with a previous reviewer about the freshness of the ingredients. Nothing pops . Never saw peas in green curry before. Bland drunken noodles . Skimpy on the meat, explaining the option to order extra meat . So will probably no longer order which is shame , but good restaurants never last. We had an enjoyable meal dining in here. We got the beef pad see ew and vegetable gaeng keow wan (green curry). I also ordered their Thai iced tea- the drink portion was not big but the flavor was great with the right amount of sugar. Both main dishes looked very appetizing and were freshly prepared. The portions are very filling but we were able to finish everything. The pad see ew was saucy and savory, balanced with a sweeter flavor profile compared to other versions I've tried before. The beef was quite tender as well. I loved the vegetable green curry with coconut milk- I would highly recommend this one if you're looking to eat something on the lighter side. This dish came with plenty of vegetables and the curry was on the runnier side. It came with a side of jasmine rice, which perfectly soaked up the light, yet creamy, curry sauce. For dessert, we tried the mor gaeng (Thai taro custard) and sweet rice. The dish is served warm and the sweet rice is a beautiful indigo color. It was a solid choice to end the meal. read more
