I ordered the orange chicken lunch special which was $9.50. The orange chicken was not my favorite because the sauce was a very strong orange flavor. I prefer more of a sweet and spicy orange sauce. The chicken was cooked well though. The fried rice was really good and I did enjoy that. It had a lot of flavor and was cooked perfect. I loved the crab rangoon but wish there was more filling. Everyone inside working was very friendly and nice. They have really good prices for lunch and it's a good portion. I would return again and try something else if I'm in the area. read more

I don't know what happened either, but the taste of the food has changed significantly since the last time we ordered several months ago. I have typically ordered Happy Family and this time it didn't even come in a brown sauce. It was in a bland white sauce. Also the hot and sour soup was not as good as I remember. Hard to believe but not the best Chinese around here. It has pretty average food and nothing is worth going a long way to get so ignore it. Yen Ching has locations in Naperville and Plainfield. As to which one's better it's hard to say because they're both not that bad. This one is very small and can only have takeout. I put in an order for carryout. Making an order doesn't have to be hard because there's also an option for making it over the internet. They allow you to put it in an order the internet so they can read it correctly and it's a lot more accurate this way. Food is okay. There's not a whole lot great about it though. I had the Tofu Country Style. It's $10.25 at lunch with a big portion of rice and tofu. The green onions, green peppers, and white onions make up most vegetables. It tasted not that fresh. The food also wasn't hot enough and had to be warmed before eating it. Check it out at lunch for the best prices on many items for the lunch combo. It has no actual dining room inside because the place is small. This is the kind of restaurant that gets all its business from takeout. read more

It's a small takeout place which I didn't care because I wasn't looking to eat inside anyway. The beef chop suey had no gravy in it like most places I've tried, and lacked flavor! The beef wasn't tough but I've had better where it was very tender! The vegetables were pretty average and the rice was too. The hot & sour soup lacked flavor as well! Yen Ching Chinese restaurant was a place I had passed by for too long, with a craving I was having for Chinese food, this was the time to satisfy that. I called ahead to order Mongolian beef and egg rolls, 15 to 20 minutes later I had my food. How do they get the food to be so hot? This is true of all Chinese takeout restaurants but really, how is the food always so piping hot? The egg rolls were just like I wanted, fresh. The Mongolian beef was just how I like it, a tad spicy. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. My son is obsessed with orange chicken and we ended up throwing it away because it was so terrible.

We order from this restaurant once or twice a month. I noticed the flavor has been inconsistent sometimes well seasoned and mediocre. I ordered Pork Fun and as you will see from the pictures there was not a dam bit of pork. What kind of service is this? Did the chef get drunk and forgot how to properly prepare food. It's not like customers are hoarding the door to purchase food. Therefore, this mess up should not have happened. I also asked for extra meat but which the person taking order failed to include. It was good she didn't considering the circumstances. All I got was a bunch of low quality noodles that is extremely greasy, thick and broken up that apparently was frozen, thawed then thrown in a greasy sauce. This company appears to don't care about serving best quality food and I got pictures to prove it. Not happy and I would have done better taking my hard earned ten dollars and bought a roasted chicken with two sides from Jewels or Walmart. Wasted my darn coins. Won't be frequenting them anytime soon and will tell friends and family beware and check your food beforehand. Fried rice at lunch was good and tasty, not full of soy sauce and though plain, was really good. Chicken and veggies was good and had ginger slices in it which was great. I forgot to ask about reduced sodium and msg so next time I will hopefully remember as I thought the dish could have done without that much salt. Prior to the Covid-19 shut downs this place HAD great food. Since they reopened the food is sub quality. They must have changed the vendor where they get there beef from because it is clearly not what they used to have. The beef is sub par and the cooking itself has dropped in quality. The mogolian beef used to bee rich and the sauce was superb but now it's 75% partially cooked white onions and the beef is tough. Even the egg rolls are different. There used to be an older gentleman that ran the place but since they re-opened it is a young lady and although she is very nice they have clearly changed the quality of products they are using and to top it off they raised their prices. General Tao's chicken was bland at best, Mongolian Beef was greasy and made with poor cuts of Beef, sweet and sour chicken sauce is simply not good, and you can make better egg rolls in your microwave. The Chicken Fried Rice was serviceable. With full appreciation of staffing challenges these days, even with generous consideration the service was poor. Ordered online at 6:45, was told it would be 7:04. I arrived at 7:05 but food was not ready until 7:35. I understand delays come up but they advised me 7:04 and being twice as long as your confirmation is excessive. Got home to find order was not complete. Had to go back to get Sweet and Sour sauce (which in retrospect I would have been better off without). Love at first bite! For years I have driven past this small take-out without a second glance. Shame on me! I called and placed an order for pick up and the very articulate man on the other end of the phone line told me that the order would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Although this was an off eating hour, 3 pm, I knew that there were others eating as well because he had put me on hold while taking another phone order. Yes, this place definitely has customers, always a good sign. I ordered a few small items off of the online menu. When I arrived exactly 15 minutes later everything was packaged in a nice brown paper bag with a printed packing slip stapled at the top. Wow, I guess even the small mom & pop shops these days are tech savvy! The food was STEAMING HOT! Obviously freshly cooked and not just reheated. Upon arriving home I scooped out the white rice and was astonished that it was so soft and tender! The combo fried rice was the same softness, not too oily, with plenty of baby shrimp, pork & veggies to go around. The beef kow was heavenly! The meat was surprisingly tender with veggies that weren't overcooked, nice and green instead of wilty looking. And the taste of everything else was fresh-tasting & without too much salt. You know how you have that favorite dish at your local spot and you don't go often enough to expand your choices... Well that keeps happening here. I just love their sweet and sour shrimp lunch special. I think it takes me back to Cincinnati in '79 when I first experienced fine Chinese food at Wah Mei's on Fountain Square. Yen Ching's shrimp takes me back to those days, when we could order a Volcano drink (at 18) and enjoy some fine dining. Over the years here I have explored other dishes but. their shrimp is magical. It is a heavy breading, but put it on top of the fried rice and drizzle a small portion of the sauce on top, as they give it to you on the side and prepare yourself for a nap... Especially if you polish of the egg roll, or rangoon if you prefer. I'm a little bummed they took the soup as an option off the table but the special still comes with a can of pop, it's better than an increase. If they'd offer brown rice I'd give them five stars. Driven past here many times and was itching to see if it was any good. It's located in a strip center in a residential area, just like one of my favorite Chinese take-outs, New Wok. Finally got my chance and here's what I thought: Egg Drop Soup: eggs were stirred well and not clumpy. That's a good sign. But the soup was fairly tasteless overall. It was like it was thinned out with hot water instead of chicken broth. We added our own chives and sesame oil to it, but it was still no good. Couldn't resuscitate it. Chicken Egg Foo Yung: good gravy, just the right amount of thickness. The patties were decent as well. Beef Fried Rice: Kinda lite in color which worried me some, but it was allright. The beef was not as tender as I would have liked, and it could have benefitted with a green onion or two and some bean sprouts and a scrambled egg. But it was OK. Probably the best of all our choices. Beef Kow: we got this on the strength of it being mentioned on the menu as one of their specialties. It was bad. It had a vinegar flavor in the sauce which was very weird and not good. Again, the beef was not as tender as expected. But the vinegar really ruined it. It had to be a mistake by the cook. It's hard to find good Chinese restaurants so I said I would give this one a try because it had one of my favorite dishes which is shrimp with scallops and garlic sauce and I ask them to add black bean. Well it smell delicious in the car I had about for shrimp maybe three big size scallops and that was great that wasn't that wasn't a problem they said the sauce was spicy not sweet and spicy. We had one of our council meetings for Chicago Jedi at my home. We put in a nice sizable order and it arrived more than on time. We were very pleased with the speed of delivery. I ordered the chicken fried rice which had PLENTY of perfectly cooked chicken, but unfortunately that's all it had along with some egg. I was hoping to see some sprouts, scallions and maybe some chopped onions. What I was happy to NOT see were peas and carrots. I also got the General Tso's chicken which was good as well but a little more on the sweet side than spicy. The service I had was AMAZING! The man who took my order was incredibly sweet and even allowed my sister to get a substitution with her order. The price was incredibly reasonable, the portions were large and it only took 10 minutes (we went at 6:30pm on a Tuesday). Additionally, the restaurant was INCREDIBLY clean. Overall, the food was good, not the best I have ever had, but not the worst. Solid take out. Not the most authentic, but there's few places in Naperville that put out the real deal. He use to have a restaurant off Ogden where all the car dealerships are, that might have been in '89-early 90's. My mom flipped when she discovered he reopened right down the street. The service is very friendly and they will always get your order right. For STARTERS we've had their egg rolls, crab rangoon, pot stickers, and beef teriyaki. The egg rolls are so-so, the crab rangoon is probably my favorite in Naperville (their big crispy triangles), the pot stickers usually have too much covering but the pork filling is good. For CHICKEN we've tried their curry, sesame, general tso's, and orange. All or just OK. Aside from the curry, they usually have a heavy sauce that gets gelatinous rather quickly. Their Szechuan, Kung Pao, Mongolian, and Moo Shu preparations are all pretty good. You can choose the meat. Lo Mein is just OK and the fried rice is only OK. One of their specialties is Sha Cha Shrimp and Scallops, that's a damn good dish. Yen Cheng is a good take out spot, much better than the common "cookie cutter" crap that is littered around the suburbs. read more

My grandma ordered mapo tofu for my brother and it came out pink!! Wth i was so in shock. They must have used a very artifical spice or something. I thought this place would be more professional. Yen Ching has been a family staple of ours for a decade. Living in the nearby neighborhoods is so easy to give the owner Stan a call and he will have the food ready for us for pickup on the way home in ten minutes exactly. Food is always good and large portions. Take advantage of the lunch specials if you can they're great. Love that they let you make a little change to the menu items to get them to your liking by substituting some veggies or even letting you make your own somewhat custom dish.
