    Mongolian "Beef" lunch, first look.

Trying to find a replacement go-to Chinese restaurant since Peter retired and closed EVERYONE'S favorite, Golden Chopsticks. I won't be back to Sesame. The food was both flavorless and very small protein portion in the dish. My Mongolian Beef lunch should have been called Mongolian Onion lunch because after 4 or 5 VERY SMALL pieces of meat, it was nothing but white onions. A LOT of white onions. See the picture if there is any doubt. Thown out it was so sparse and flavorless! They didn't even put it on the crispy noodles (which I love) WHICH IS IN THE ITEM'S DESCRIPTION!!! The Won Ton soup had NO FLAVOR. It was like they just threw wontons and cabbages into hot water and served it. Threw out the entire order. Even the eggroll was sub par. And they did not even provide hot mustard, but rather two sweet and sour packets. This trial was a bad experience, so I'm glad I only threw away $17 for a lunch special and small soup, rather than an entire dinner for my family. (Side note: I don't think they even care about their food or their bad reviews, as I noticed they do not respond to any reviews.) The search for our new go-to for Chinese food continues - we like to have it once a week, so it's a big deal to us. Oh, well.

Szechwan chicken lunch special. Great crab ragoon $1 upgrade to shrimp fried rice, plenty of meat ...my new 'go to' place for chinese.

This place is alright. Not the best fast food chinese but decent. Mongolian beef was okay but their noodles were less than okay.

The fried rice was nothing to right home about, but it was good too. The egg roll was fresh and generously filled. I will definitely be back here on my next business trip to the area.

I ordered online for carry out and the platform was easy to navigate. Once my husband and I arrived at the resto we were greeted by a very kind staff member. Our food wasn't ready but within 5 mins of us being there it was good to go. We tried the wonton soup and chicken dumplings app. Both were on the bland side. Normally I'm used to wonton soup also having noodles and theirs does not. Flavors were OK, felt like both dishes were missing spices. Everything was cooked perfectly though. Maybe we ordered the wrong items from here and need to try others instead.

In my experience, this signifies either the place was going to be a shithole to pass up, or it was a serious place to eat, then get out and go somewhere with an atmosphere. Happy to say J's (IMHO) is a serious place to eat. No-nonsense, direct and to the point. When I walked in, all those common chairs I mentioned were stacked upside down on the tables in the way that places do when they are closed. The taciturn fellow who worked there assured me they were indeed open, and explained they had just finish washing the floor. Please dont read any of this as negative-the best Chinese places I've ever been have looked like this-and if you've paid attention to the Travel/Food shows on the TeeVee, the joints in China itself are pretty much the same. On to the food, know this place is a Serious REAL-DEAL Chinese resto. I didn't notice if there were "Occidental" Chinese-type dishes on the carte, (primarily 'cos I wasn't looking for them). What I saw looked yum, and had a hard time making choices, even though I had read the menu multiple times and thought I know what I was going to order in advance. Confessionately, this is a chief feature for my tortured dining self-It's a wonder I even get fed in restaurants (especially the great ethnic ones), due to option anxiety. I zeroed in on "Street Noodles" for starters-wouldn't you? Then went to "Cold Beef Shank" for entreé. The Noodles were fab as was the Shank. The noodles were in a broth. with some hunks of bok choy and ground meat on top. Hearty, still light. The shank had a thin sauce complimenting but not obscuring the beefiness. One bugaboo: the Shank needed a bit of seasoning, and I wasn't going to use soy sauce, as I believed that would have marred the subtle flavors of the Beef. I asked for a salt shaker. It arrived, and I was a little taken back, 'cos it appeared it hadn't been washed in a while, and the salt inside was caked. It occurred to me this condition was present due to the non-use of said shaker. I don't think I've ever asked for a salt shaker in a Chinese resto. I pulled a toothpick out of my "Murse" and broke up the caked NaCl. Applying same to the pieces of Shank, the flavor bloomed and I was a happy boy. Bring some salt packets along when you visit "J's", maybe. The fellow who was waiter and cashier was a "western" fellow, whom I engaged and turned out to be quite an experienced foodie. some pleasant conversation indeed. Throwing 4 for this excellent establishment, with a few grains of salt separating it from 5...

ANCIENT CHINESE SECRET…read more Terrific takeout is often the result of magical MSG. MSG (monosodium glutamate), or 'make sh*t gooood', is a flavor enhancer many restaurants use to amplify savory dishes to a level generally only experienced by eating Chinese takeaway. Most kitchens of this ilk are stocked with plenty of this miraculous white crystalline powder, and I doubt Garden China is any different. This small spot on Route 53 in Bolingbrook offers carryout, delivery, and dine-in, although I can't picture a single soul who'd opt to stick around here instead of bringing home their haul of Hunan chicken. I've placed online orders and they've been ready at or before the scheduled time. The appetizer combo ($17) is a good value: 2 crab Rangoon, 2 fried wontons, 2 beef teriyaki, 2 fried shrimp, 2 chicken wings, and 2 egg rolls. The wings didn't get eaten, but everything else was consumed with haste and they reheated splendidly in the air fryer the next day. I would've liked hot mustard or duck sauce for dipping. My wife loved the wonton soup ($8 for a large) even though she grouses about it heating unevenly--the broth gets scalding hot while the wontons are still cold. Their egg drop soup ($8 for a large) is maybe the best I've ever had, plenty of whirled egg and green onion without any nonsense like corn or mushrooms. They keep it simple and it's quite literally perfect. The kung pao chicken ($11) is also one of the best I've had in recent memory, due in part to the overall flavor but also because of the ingredients. Sometimes kung pao chicken means 90% crap and 10% actual chicken. Not the case at Garden China; they add proportional amounts of celery, carrots, onion, green peppers, water chestnuts, baby corn, peanuts, and plenty of white meat chicken in a tasty sauce. And to top it off, it was much cheaper than other places nearby (Zen House charges $17!) * TL;DR * It's unfortunate that Golden Chopsticks closed in late 2022, but I'm thankful to have Garden China as our new go-to. Garden China has some sneaky-good menu items, notably the egg drop soup (which HAS to be loaded with glorious MSG) and the kung pao chicken, which is just spicy enough and loaded with a great variety of veggies. We will absolutely order takeout again from here!

Average egg roll. Crispy and stuffed. The small chicken lo mein was enough for anyone. It was a good size portion. I went in and ordered at the restaurant. My food was delivered in five or six minutes. The service was quick and courteous. I will go back. There's only a couple of booths if you think you're going to eat in. This is a pick up and go type of restaurant.

This was outright FRAUD, as my card was never credited for this food I could not eat. She also said the manager would call me back, which also did not happen. It's across the street from Arby's in a small strip mall. You'll definitely have to make a U-Turn because getting into the lot is weird. Plenty of parking since it is a shared lot. We decided to do two combo meals plus the aristocrat chicken. When dining in, there are about 4 tables so it can be limited if there is a rush hour. The owner was very pleasant and he explained about the items before we looked at the menu. Lumpia was crispy and tasty. Garlic rice was a little oily but still good. Overall, it's about a 4. I would have given them a 5 but that rock hard crispy kare kare is hard to forget. However, I'll return to try other items. -crispy kare kare with garlic rice and lumpia 3 - I wanted to like this but the crispy kare kare was a huge let down. It was very tough to eat. I've had Filipino food many times and it was never this hard. It's a shame because the peanut sauce with the veggies and eggplant were delicious. -bbq pork belly (liempo) with garlic rice and lumpia 5 - I really liked the BBQ pork belly. Very easy to cut with a spoon. Meat was well seasoned. It is fatty, so it's best to eat it with rice. -aristocrat chicken 5 - highly recommended. Chicken is extremely flavorful even for leftovers. Meat is very moist and juicy. Nice balance of sweet and salty. I should have gotten the 10 pieces.
