Chaia is hands down my favorite place to eat in Georgetown-- lunch, dinner, snack? The answer is always Chaia. While I'm not a vegetarian, I have a deep appreciation for vegetarian entrees, and well cooked and seasoned vegetables, and Chaia gets it right every time. If you're not familiar, their thing is tacos filled with veggies. You can purchase them individually, or go for a trio, and I believe they have quesadillas now as well. I always go for a taco trio, and my go-to faves are the creamy kale potato one (seriously amazing, idk what they put in this but WOW the cream sauce), the sweet potato one (yes, I love potatoes), and then probably the cumin cauliflower. However, they're all amazing. When you go inside you order on a screen to which reduces your contact with others, which I appreciate too. There is some indoor seating but in this day and age I often take my food to go which is quick and easy there. read more

This place is not in plain sight. If you are looking for vegetarian/vegan tacos, I would recommend this place as there is a lot of flavor in most of the tacos. I ordered the eggplant, sweet potato, and the mushroom ones and they were good. The eggplant was a bit soggy and the mushroom one was a but tough. This vegan / vegetarian Mexican food inspired eatery is delightful! I had seen some videos about it on TikTok and always meant to go, so I finally decided to try it out. It did not disappoint! It definitely has a cafe ambiance in that you order the food at kiosks and then find a table for yourself, but the spot itself was pretty cute and cozy. I am a vegetarian and my boyfriend eats meat, but he loved his black bean enchiladas and my tacos were phenomenal. Also the price for two entrees and two drinks was $30-40, which is a steal considering all that we got! They have the option to add vegan cheese (daiya) to your tacos and entrees or go without it, since not everyone likes vegan cheese. Stopped here for a snack during my visit to DC. Let me start by saying I'm a hard-core carnivore so I was a little skeptical about this place. The inside is cute and clean. There aren't that many tables on the first floor, but there is more seating upstairs. My wife ordered 3 different tacos (sautéed green cabbage, chipotle sweet potato, and creamy kale potato (the best!)). The tacos came out in about 5 minutes. My husband and I came here as a quick stop since I am gluten free. We got the seasonal special and a quesadilla. The tacos were probably the least flavorful tacos I have had. They were "tolerable" when it comes to flavor - bland and uninteresting. A sauce was included but it was more like tomato bisque soup in my opinion. The types of vegetables they used were not dynamic (in texture, flavor, etc.). Some veggies fell straight through the corn tortilla. I cannot fathom how we paid $30 between the two of us for a small meal with so little protein and dynamics. Ambiance was lacking, no music, the staff seemed down and out & did not interact with us (self service ordering machine). The one thing I will say is the tacos were very colorful. Turns out, you CAN be a total foodie and a vegetarian and Chaia taught me that. I've been slowly tapering off meat and dairy from our diet and was wondering about the loss of food experiences. Chaia then walks in with a full menu with fun textures and flavors to remind me there is life after meat and it is good. I enjoyed the braised mushroom taco the best. The flavors for the Moroccan carrot taco were good, but the texture was too hard for a taco filling. Just a little softer and it would be perfect. The Brussels sprout quesadilla was a new one for me, and I really enjoyed it! It's not as thick (or as greasy) as other quesadillas, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in flavor. The crunch of the Brussels was an excellent contrast to the gooey cheese interior, alongside the crunchy tortilla. I also thought the sauce was a great bonus, adding a lot of flavor to the otherwise tame quesadilla. 4/4, The chips are just chips, but the black bean dip is absolutely killer (if you like black beans). This is a rare scenario in which the dip container actually holds enough dip for all your chips. The thickness and power of the black bean flavor held me back from completely coating my chips (like I might do with a liquid cheese dip). After his arrival, we ordered another glass of the sangria -- really good! -- and our meals. I decided to order the trio. The tacos are $4 a piece, so the trio is $3. I had the creamy kale & potato, braised mushroom and the skillet sweer corn. My friend also tried the charred green beans -- which sounded good to me except the jalapeno salsa. He did confirm the salsa got a bit of spice. Overall favorite was the corn! I had a hard time with the texture of the mushroom, but I'm also just embarking on the journey of being a fan of mushrooms. I also ordered the green rice based on fellow yelpers! So so good! Great crunch from pepitas, creaminess from cheese and flavorful rice. For vegan friends, the restaurant can make all tacos - with the exception of the creamy kale & potato without dairy products. We stopped in here since my travel companions are vegan. So, yes, there are vegan as well as vegetarian options. The ordering process is all on a touchscreen tablet, which there is only one of. So, if they are busy, the wait time kind of increases because you have to wait for people to complete their order on the tablet. Then, people were waiting in the little alcove right next to the tablet for their orders to be called so it was confusing to know who was in line to order and who was in line to pick up their order. I think that part could be streamlined to not make the entryway and food preparation area look so cluttered. The dining room is pretty small and they seemed to still have the tables spaced out for social distancing so that made things look even smaller. There is an additional dining area upstairs but on the day we went it was quite warm outside and the heat rose to the upstairs portion which is not air-conditioned. The downstairs was air-conditioned though. The bathroom is also upstairs and the lock/latch was broken, so you kind of had to lean against the door or hope no one busted in on you which you're using the toilet. Now for the food, I ordered the black bean enchiladas and a scrambled egg and black bean taco on the side. The enchiladas take a bit of time to make as they have to bake them. The aluminum container that they were baked in was scalding hot, so if you order them, please proceed with caution when taking them out of the bag or taking off the lid. It was kind of a good thing it was scalding since the taco seemed lukewarm and actually quite unremarkable and the enchilada container seemed to heat up the taco so it was actually palatable. The enchiladas were perfect though. *chef kiss* The cheese was amazing and the black beans were subtle in flavor but melded together with the authentic tortillas and sauce and green rice. Per the menu it's "two enchiladas with pepper jack, salsa verde and pea greens, served with our herby green rice." I think since they were piping hot, that also helped since I was so hungry. So it was worth the wait. The total price was $13 for the enchiladas and $4.50 for the individual taco. The enchiladas were actually very filling and I could have done just fine without the taco. I also got a bottle of water which I think was $4.50 so a pretty decent meal for just over $20. read more

None of them like mushrooms and I had been craving a mushroom taco since basically the start of my life so as soon as I saw this menu I knew it was where we would end up for lunch. Their ordering system is completely self driven. You can order from your phone or order from the kiosk inside the restaurant. It is and easy to use system and took no time at all. My youngest child ordered the cheese quesadilla because she's super picky and I wanted her to have something she would actually eat. She devoured it so needless to say, it must have been good. My oldest child had the skillet corn taco, the creamy kale and potato taco, and the scrambled egg and black bean taco. She said they were all really good, but the creamy kale taco really surprised her with how delicious it was. She commented that we obviously need to come back here so she can try some of the others. I had the braised mushroom taco, the sweet potato hash taco, and the creamy kale and potato. All of them were so flavorful, so delicious. They were exactly what I was looking for. I also tried the chips and dip and really enjoyed the tahini black bean (the habanero pepita was very good too, I just preferred the texture of the black bean dip). I did run into a bit of an issue when picking up because my name wasn't called when my order was ready and it just sat without me knowing.
