Chain Bridge Cellars is such a gem in the area! I love that they host free tastings every Friday and Saturday - it's a fun, low-key way to try new wines and discover bottles I might not normally pick up. The staff is super knowledgeable without being pushy, and they always have great recommendations at different price points. The shop itself is well-organized and welcoming, with a nice selection. Best Wine Tasting in the DMV. No others live up to Doug House and his team. 1. It is wine AND snacks (think yummy cheeses also for sale) that pair well with what wines you are tasting 2. It is typically 6 - 8 wines for tasting and unlike others tasting events, if you run out of wine before the next pour, just raise your hand. And, if there is wine left over at the end, you can try your favorites again! 3. The prices are nicely discounted, especially if you buy a case! Wow, I'm rarely floored by stores exceeding expectations but this is one of them. II saved more than 30 dollars on the case of wine (eruption) that I was about to have shipped from CA, they delivered it for free, and gave me some great recommendations for cheese and craft beer that I also tried that were also great and different than the norm at a good price. Plus Greg was so nice and personable that I feel like I have a personal wine steward. He sent me some personal recommendations tailored to my taste. What a great place! Tastings in the back on Fridays, helpful service and a good selection of different wines. I would recommend - the owner is very helpful and takes the time to walk you through what you would want. I was looking for a particular vintage--and they had it cheaper than a few of the competitors. Wow! We love these folks! Not only do they take public health seriously (why is this so hard to find these days) but also seems like everyone on their staff knows a ton about wine! We are particular about wine, I worked in the industry for many years and have niche tastes making me a particularly challenging customer. We stopped in to poke around, see what was offered, and maybe to pick something up. After chatting with one of the staff members we decided to grab a 6pk of offerings to see how they'd fare and WOW! Not only does this store have a very unique and well curated selection, the wine buyer has really dialed in the inventory! We were particularly wooed by a lovely little pinot blanc from alto adige that we took as a recommendation! Definitely making this our new wine spot and we are so grateful to have found, not only a store with expert staff, but also one that recognizes the importance of taking the pandemic seriously! 10/10 read more

Received a follow-up email from Doug, the owner (I think...), on my initial Yelp review. He addressed my concerns and on the 3 subsequent visits, I've found that the staff has provided superior service. On the last two visits, I was introduced to three new varietals. If you tell them what you like, you'll probably get suggestions for other wines and varietals that you'll enjoy. Another plus is that they keep your order/purchase history stored in their system. I've been going to Cecile's for a number of years now. I used to have four or five regular wine shops, including Total Wine, but I became tired of bringing home bad bottles. Now, I only use Cecile's and here's why. Cecile's does regular tastings on Fridays and Saturdays. Some wine shops pour what they are trying to sell. Cecile's will pour what they think is exciting. There are usually four or more wines selected from a theme (i.e. varietal, region, etc) and covering several price points. There is always a value/steal of the week, some $20-30 and usually something a little more high end. It is not uncommon to see a $40+ bottle of wine being poured at a tasting. Cecile's tasting format has allowed me to purchase (almost) exclusively wines that I have tried and have some assurance will be good. Over the years, Cecile's has learned my palate and is able to steer me towards wine they are confident I will like and away from wines that may not excite me. On occasion, they have special ordered wine that they do not normally carry. The prices at Cecile's are very reasonable, which is the reason I marked it as inexpensive. They are often on par or within a dollar or two of Total Wine. Wegman's can sometimes throw deals that beat their prices, but the transport and storage can be suspect over there. When Cecile's offers up sales, the prices are unbeatable. Overall, Cecile's offers up everything I want in a neighborhood wine store. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, very good selection (especially considering the size of the store), free tastings of wines I want to drink, excellent meats/cheeses, and constant special wine dinners and other events. My biggest complaint is they are not in Lorton/Springfield. Doesn't seem to stop me from going back though. read more

This is my favorite store to buy wine. Doug House and his knowledgeable and friendly team - Diane, Javier, Nancy and Brad - offer recommendations and are great with the tastings. If you are willing to spend $40 or more on a bottle then definitely recommend to go there. I've never had a so so tasting bottle there. All of the wine that I purchased from them are all great wines. I buy a lot of wine from many different places. This is the only wine shop where I will buy a wine based on a staff recommendation. Their people know wine, they have reasonable prices, they have some great sales on great tasting wines. I can't tell you how many times I had to go back and buy more of a wine they recommended because I didn't buy enough at the time (and the place is pretty far from where I live ((6 wine stores are closer)). I love Fine Wine. It took me a while to go in because I always get nervous in wine stores. But they sell great wine without being pretentious. They are thrilled to find a great bottle at a low price, as much as they are selling higher end bottles. We can often get amazing wines for under $10. I've drunk wine every night for thirty years, and this is my favorite wine store. Period. Doug House, the owner, is very knowledgeable and has an enthusiasm for wine that is contagious. No snobbishness or label-drinking in this store! Doug has a real sense of value (quality divided by cost) and regularly stocks wines that are exceptional values. The staff (which includes Randy King, a force in the DC wine trade for many years) also knows wine. No stockers or cash-register people; only wine-lovers with opinions worth hearing. The store is small, so they haven't room to stock fifty brands of California Cab. Doug and his staff have really tasted the wines they carry, and believe in them enough to give them shelf space. Several wines, with prices ranging from $6 to sometimes $100 or more, are open for tasting on Fridays 4-7 and Saturdays 12-4, served in good glasses so you can actually taste them, and often poured by their importers, who can really teach you about the wines. Sign up for the email service telling about special events and what's new - and up for tasting! Try one of the reasonably-priced evening classes, where you can learn more about wines in a small sit-down group, with generously-sized samples, cheese and bread on the side, and often special pricing, These are usually hosted by the importer, or even the owner or winemaker. I m revising my previous 3-star rating after having attended a class, which was excellent. We learned a lot from the breadth of wines tasted during the class and thought the instruction superb. We will return for more, as there are many appealing topics on the schedule of classes available. Randy provided me with superior service when I phoned to see if they would be able to order a wine I had in a Charlottesville restaurant. Despite the fact that I live an hour away, it was worth driving in to be able to get that lovely wine. However, when we were actually in the store to pick it up, we could not have been more ignored. We filled out a case strictly of our own choosing, not because we didn't want or welcome help but because it wasn't offered. The selection was well-rounded and I daresay could provide something for everyone. If the previous comment about less expensive wines not being available had been true at that time, it is no longer true. My wine preferences have changed as I have gotten older. To this end, Cecile's Wine Cellar is a perfect fit. For those days I want a high end, classic burgundy, they're there. On the other days, when quantity and affordability are the key, there's no place better than Cecile's. Truly, Cecile's possesses an exceptionally informed staff and where the customer is the most important and treated with respect. I was a Total Wine customer until Cecile's was suggested as a place to pick up a bottle of cuisine appropriate wine for a dinner party almost two years ago. Now, I can shop no place else. They have a great selection of wines and honestly I am not positive on the prices. The prices of the beers were crazy high which was pretty sad. A four pack of Ten Fidy a Russian Imperial Stout by Oskar Blues was $18.99 there. Across the street "literally" at Total Wine and other small Beer and Wine shops this Stout ranges from $14.99 to $15.99. The selection of beers was very small, but they were great beers and a wise choice to stock. I honestly would love to come this shop if the prices had been the normal range for the area. I really like this store. The staffmembers to a person are consistently enthusiastic about wine, and not at all hung up about price. No snobbiness. If you tell them your budget and tastes, they will give you the best they have without trying to noodle you up to a higher price. In fact, I get the impression that this store"s long suit is the solid $15-25 range--but maybe that's because I do the majority of my buying in that range.
