I came here because of the reviews. My son's bike needs brake repair and a gear tune up. I brought the bike in on a Thursday and asked if it could be ready by Wednesday. I was told no problem. When i came in on Wednesday i was told it was not ready. I said i brought this in last week and you said it would be no problem to have it ready. He responded we were a mechanic short today so I am sorry and he shrugged his shoulders. I said I realize your short staffed today, but this has been with you for a week. I walked away and the other mechanic overheard the conversation and said, I overheard the conversation and your request will take me 30 minutes. Will that work for you? I said yes, my son will be ecstatic. Within 30 minutes it was all ready and I walked out very happy. Thank you. I got to see a smile on my son's face too. He knew it would be ready on Wednesday and I am grateful that it all worked out. read more

The sales lady was not pushy and helped us chose the right bike. I also purchased a car carrier for our bikes and a helpful employee mounted it on our SUV. Room For Improvement When you come in and tell them you are looking to buy an E-bike, they are your new best friends! I picked out a bike, got over my heart attack when I saw the price tag, and then asked about a rack for my car. Turns out they did not carry the rack that fit this bike (why would you carry the bike and not the rack that fits it? It's not like people can throw a 70-lb e-bike in the back of their cars......!) So I had to drive to the other (Clearwater) location to get the correct rack, and then back to the Palm Harbor location to pick up the bike. When I went inside to get the paperwork (warranty info, etc)... having spent my *cough* life savings *cough*... I was told that they had forgotten to charge me the $15 state battery fee. I thought they were kidding. They were not. I said surely, since I just spend almost $4,000 in this store, you can cover the $15 fee...? Nope. He waited there with his hand out while I dug a $20 bill out of the bottom of my purse. When he handed me my change, instead of handing me the $5 I was owed, he handed me a couple ones and some change. Yes folks, to add insult to injury, he had actually charged me sales tax on the battery tax. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I would have been MORTIFIED to do this to a customer who had just dropped that kind of money in my store. I will never go back. read more

PAINTING THE CANVAS: Chainwheel Drive has been my bike shop of choice since I moved to Florida in 2001. Initially, I was a regular customer at the Clearwater location. After a year I had moved closer to the Palm Harbor location so, I shifted my business to their location at US 19 and Tampa Road. SERVICE: This location has a service department that I feel a second to none. I usually work on my own bikes but when I'm short on time this would be where I would go to drop my bike off. Over the years their professionalism in servicing my bike has led me to more routine checkups, cable Replacements, brake adjustments, wheel truing then I would have normally had submitted my bike to. If I have to compliment one specific person it would be Bruce, in service. That's my go-to Guru. STOCKED: This location is well-stocked in ready to go bicycles as well as frames, tools, safety equipment, nutritional supplements and food. Everything you need to roll out of the store can be found here, no matter if you plan to do it on a road bike, a mountain bike, hybrid, e-bike... You get the idea. NOT YOUR AVERAGE BEAR: The bottom line is most bike shops are just that. Bike-shop ... and they are similar to the next one down the road. I truly like that Chainwheel Drive challenges and defeats that stereotype. They are not just like any other bike shop. That is in part due to the quality of products and the dedication of their employees to their customers. MENTAL BLING: Going the extra mile doesn't take a whole lot in this world but, once you go that extra mile... Man, it's so appreciated. Doesn't matter what you do or who you are, in this case it's Chainwheel Drive simply keeping an updated Event Board and doing things such as offering their trademark Bicycle 101 Clinics... in a related note, I love running into the crew manning the sizable booth, I'm not even sure if that's a proper term, at the Saint Anthony's Triathlon Expo - if you haven't been down there to check this out, you need to and you don't need to be in the triathlon or even a triathlete to appreciate all the time and effort that they put into getting everything down there and set up... Yep...These are just three examples of the shiny gems or "bling", if you will... that I think about from time to time. and As I said, this is simple but, they do require proper planning and a decent mental effort is precisely what Chainwheel Drive puts forth to ensure that these are quality experiences. SHOWING MY CARDS: Now, I'll tell you a little bit of something that I haven't revealed much... and that is how my first experience at Chainwheel Drive went down. 2002: I was residing nearby and I decided to go check out CwD. I didn't need anything but, I wanted to see if I would be judged like I had been at various shops up north, in Hawaii and even at a place on the trail in Tarpon. I'm not sure what employees think they're accomplishing in judging their customers and treating them differently based on perhaps whether I'm a regular customer or not... The type of car I drive up in or the clothing that I'm wearing. So I specifically dug through my closet found a pair of jeans that should have been bound for the trash about 40 washings ago and I cut the legs off them with a dull knife, fraying the ends. Next, I tossed on an old t-shirt I had recently used to paint the house in and some flip flops. Well, the joke was on me... I walked into the shop and I was treated as well as I could have expected to have been treated had I been royalty. FIRST VISIT EPITAPH: When I returned home my girlfriend asked me how it went and I said, I think I found my shop... And I've been there ever since. HONEST ACCOLADES: Thanks Tom and Dottie (owners) your shops have been, are and will forever be nothing short of the quality one desires to find when seeking a new go-to bike shop when you are in a new town.. Your business sets the example of that which other shops strive to emulate and many, in my experiences, fall short in achieving. Bravo to you both and to all of your staff for a job well done. I bought a Trek in 2006 from Chainwheel Drive and wanted to go back again for a new bike. I liked my Trek, but was looking for something lighter in weight. All of the staff is knowledgeable, however I have to mention Ian. He took quite a bit of time with me, asking questions and really listening to me. His personal customer service was exceptional and was able to guide me to the perfect bike. When I went to pick it up, Ian was not there. Alyssa helped me and she as well gave great customer service. I called In telling a gentleman on the phone that I have a standard kids 20" bike tire and needed training wheels for it. They said $30 for product and $5 for labor. I brought a pair of training wheels I had purchased from Walmart in the slim chance they could install them for the price mentioned over the phone. When entering the store, waiting 10 minutes behind the counter while 3 guys circled a bike to figure out how to fix it a young guy with hat and glasses comes over to look at the kids bike and tells me he could try putting the already purchased Training wheels on for $15. Then he says they won't fit due to the axle, so I called and drove down to ended up being told several different prices. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I used to love this Company. I'll never be back, I've recommended your store to people since atleast 2005. You treat your customers like crap. read more

I took my 30-year-old Serotta, Colorado LT road bike to Chainwheel Drive this week for an overhaul. Dean, the mechanic took it in as a special project and made it absolutely fabulous. It only took four days even ordering parts. We changed out the components from the road style with drop bars to straight bars and a more delivery style bicycle. It was unbelievable! The ride was very comfortable and I was extremely satisfied with the work that Dean did on the bicycle. They even cleaned and serviced the other wear parts. The workers weren't very helpful and they bring bikes outside to you instead of being able to look for yourself. I didn't care for that at all and no other shop is doing that. My terra trike front left tire was out of alignment and destroyed the tire. The technician was helpful in selecting a replacement tire. He realigned the wheel and suggest some additional things I should do. My tricycle is running better than ever, I have seen a 20% improvement in ease of pedaling.The cost was reasonable for labor and two tires. My wife bought a Trek Bike a year ago. The gear was needing adjustment because it was making a grinding noise. We took it to the Trek store, they told us it needed a new chain and gears and adjustment and quoted us 275.00. We said how can that be when we only have ridden the bike around 300 to 500 miles. They said it was worn out,. I had a hard time to believe this so my wife suggested we go get another opinion so we went to Chainwheel drive Palm harbor and Bruce the repair maintenance Tech looked at it. He made a few minor adjustment which took 10 min then said it is fixed have a great day and insisted we don't pay it was on the house. He was professional kind and honest. The other store insisted our bike was messed up and needed all this work. Bruce and the staff were straight forward and they were watching out for our best interest.
