Chai's Asian Bistro is located in North Raleigh, in the Brennan Shopping Center. It is to the right of Harris Teeter. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so seating is limited. But the takeout orders were coming in all evening. It was my first time at the restaurant as I was not aware of it before. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, but closes in between. The shopping center has plenty of free parking. The menus are extensive: one is dedicated to sushi, and the other features Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Singaporean dishes. You can mix and match the dishes if you want. The prices seemed reasonable for the amount and quality of food. We were a group of six, and they put a few tables together so that we could sit together. We had plenty of room and weren't squished together. The dining room wasn't loud, so we could actually hear each other and have conversations. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The owner was also going around to all the tables to make sure we were happy with our meals. I went with the Hibachi Samurai, and I could choose soup or salad and white or fried rice. I did the miso soup and white rice. The zucchini, mushrooms and onions were mixed with the chicken, steak and shrimp. I really enjoyed my meal and the flavors. This place is comfortable and laid back. Service is pretty good, but mostly I order out. My favorite dishes here are the Summer Rolls with shrimp appetizer. The sticky rice paper bothers some people, but dip it in the peanut sauce it comes with and the flavors of the basil and the shrimp and the sauce just blend perfectly and explode in your mouth. Yummy. As for the main dish, my favorite is the yellow curry with shrimp. (Green bell peppers don't like me, and this dish doesn't have any). So all in all prices are higher in disguise. If food is decent you shouldn't need to hide charges, just show the real price and I will make up my mind. Have never seen your deceiving system anywhere else. Appetizer was good value for the amount of food for 14.95 but with the separate charge for two wontons became overpriced. I was in the area for work and looked for Chinese food on the Yelp app. CAB came up having 3.5 stars and usually I won't go anywhere with less than 4 stars. I ordered my usual Hunan Chicken and egg roll. The entree I received looked pretty good, so I dove right in. The chicken and veggies were cooked pretty well, but I feel like the sauce came up a little short. Not spicy at all! They don't have shrimp egg rolls, so I got some cute Vietnamese egg rolls with sweet chili sauce. Those were pretty good. I think the kind of Chinese I normally get is not something they do regularly, but they put it on the menu to expand the menu. This is a favorite place for lunch near our house. Lucky us! The service is attentive and friendly and the sushi is surprisingly good. We used to order takeout from the former Chai's( which I didn't love their sushi), but the owners are different and so is the menu. The menu has both sushi and noodle dishes and is pretty extensive, yet affordable for lunch. My go-to's are the Bento box and the sushi and sashimi sampler lunch specials. read more

Usually a huge fan of this restaurant! I've been eating here for over 10 years and it's some of the best Thai food I've had. The only real complaint I have is that often times when you pay for extra chicken or other proteins, they don't give you anything. It's $3 to add extra protein and sometimes it seems like there's even less than a normal amount in my meal. read more

Come here frequently for the Pad Thai which is very good. There is a good price on the lunch special and you get a side with it. My absolute favorite Asian restaurant in Raleigh. Food is always amazing. Never had a complaint. My favorites are the Tiger Tear and General Tso's chicken. Food is fresh and tastes even better than it looks. Dinner prices are a little high for what you get but other than that, I have nothing bad to say about this place. At first I was frustrated, but after reading the negative reviews, which only seem to be on long wait times and cold food (takeout), I give them 5 stars for properly setting customer expectations. We came back again for an after church lunch (to use another of my living social coupons) and we were nearly wowed again. I pulled up the yelp reviews on my iphone and showed them to the manager, pointing out that not all of his guests have been completely satisfied. My bride attested to the "bland" food pointed out by JH because she had also experienced it here, but that's not a reflection of this specific visit. The manager went immediately to the kitchen staff and asked what they (meaning everyone including himself) could do to improve the taste of the food, and thus improve how his guests rated his restaurant. I ordered a bowl of Hot n sour soup and could have made a meal of that by itself (it was OMG HUGE, but not quite as tasty as the previous visit). Next came my Kung Pao shrimp with fried rice - very good stuff. My little girl wanted dessert and so did my bride. I said yes, but only if they shared. Fried ice cream was okay, but I much prefer the fried ice cream at Chubby's. The banana spring roll was also just okay, but I'm not much of a banana fan to begin with. Tucked in beside a new Harris Teeter, Chai is a welcome surprise! Sadly because of the Covid-19, they are only open for takeout, currently. But you can order and pay online and they will have your food waiting when you arrive. Normally they are a sit down restaurant, with dim lighting and minimal Asian decor. The kids portions are perfect and a great price. My kids ordered sesame chicken and ate the whole thing! The chicken was not over-breaded, like some places where you get more bread than actual chicken. The broccoli was cooked perfect, giving a nice crunch when bitten into. Tonight I ordered a few items for dinner via take away. I live 5 minutes away so I ate the spring rolls in route home which were great. I refrigerated the general tso chicken and hibachi chicken. Now 3 hours later I finally had time to eat my food. Unfortunately the chicken in both dishes was not tasty at all. The general tso chicken tasted old ovetbattered and more of dark chicken meat instead of breast meat. There was also quite a bit of oil in dish. The hibachi chicken was so unflavored and some pieces of chicken were undercooked. After debating I called Chai to voice my disappointment in the quality of the food and whomever was on the phone was prompted for some reason to give me a lesson on reheating food as if the microwave was just invented. She went on and on on about the flavor was lost because of reheating. Im pretty sure im not the only one who has reheated asian cuisine before and had no issues its like the bonus of ordering you have leftovers. So if the food tastes bad 3 hours after being freshly prepared the food wasn't good before. How can food lose flavor it never had your dishes were less than appetizing and i only called to voice my disappointment in a meal that before tonight i had always had positive dining experience. A huge shout out to Chai's tonight! They were absolutely slammed with dine in guests and so so many take outs and they still crushed it. The owner went above and beyond making long wait times right with every single guest, and all wait staff remained so calm, positive, and nice.
