We met friends here in Morristown for dinner at Chakra. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was very inviting. We started with a vegetable samosa and pappadums bothe delicious. For mains I ordered the Shaba goat special which was fantastic and had very few bones. We had two orders of chicken tikka masala which were enjoyed. One order of shrimp mango curry which was devoured as wells. For naan we got tandoori and Rosemary naan. The rosemary might be the best naan I have ever had. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and will be coming back for sure. Street parking and a lot nearby made coming here easy. read more

Delightful place, ambience, and service. Of course, good food as well. An informal litmus test of how fresh the ingredients are is to order "Bhel Puri" and check for the crispness. Nailed it! Their (tandoori) roti flatbread was also crisp (and none of that chewy feel). Saag paneer had a ting of smoked flavor - delightful! Very friendly wait and host staff w/ reasonable prices. Parking is always a challenge when heading to any restaurant in downtown, but since it was a weekday, we found a spot easily. Honestly, not sure why they'd include large chicken pieces here; felt like something borrowed from a buffet platter. The only items I liked were the mutton seekh kebab and prawns. *Gobhi Manchurian: too much sauce - 3/5 * Jhinga Masala: tomato-based gravy with prawns, nothing extraordinary, 3/5 * Bhuna Gost : nope, could not find the gravy... 2.5/5 * Lamb Biryani: average and disappointing, 2.5/5 * Eggplant Bharta * Gobhi Paratha, Tandoori Roti, Garlic Naan, Laccha Paratha * Jaljeera, Lassi, Lime soda To be honest, food was pretty average. I visited this Indian restaurant on my visit to Morristown. This is located in a busy junction and mid of town. Parking will be challenging but after couple of rounds found parking in front of the restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is amazing and definitely feels special. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They had a buffet for their lunch so decided to go with that. The collection in buffet is very good for the price. Also they provide the Naan/Bread to the table and also the Tandoori chicken apetizer to the table. Those 2 were very good, rest of the buffet was good but I wouldnt try that next time. Noodles was good, gravy tasted bland to me, Overall it was a good experience and will visit this restaurant again to try their ala carte menu. read more

Stopped in for the first time for a Sunday lunch. Was surprised to find a nice buffet, so we went with that. The food was all really fresh and flavorful and I thought it was a great deal. There were both veg and meat options and the buffet includes tandoori chicken and bread for the table. The space is really nice, great ambiance. My husband and I went out for a date night at Chakra and oh boy was it some of the best Indian food we've had in awhile. We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday evening with no reservations (which was our bad). The hostess and manager (owners?) were kind enough to seat us even though it became packed around 6:30. We will know better to make reservations next time. We began with an order if Samosas which were packed with flavorful spiced potatoes and peas. Even the dough was delicious! It was a great way to start our meal. We couldn't decide what we wanted to eat for dinner and our waitress suggested that we share two dishes, which was a great idea! We ordered the Chicken Tikka and Chicken Korma. We also ordered two different naan, the Tandoori Naan and the Garlic Naan. Oh man, everything was SO amazing! We ordered it at a medium spice level and at first I was concerned that it would be too spicy, but it was just right. Everything had such a good flavor. The cashew based gravy was amazing, and of course having some rice as a base always brings everything together nicely. The atmosphere was very lovely and we had such a nice dinner. Chakra is BYOB so when we received the check it was a great price point for a nice dinner out. We are already talking about returning as soon as possible! read more

Reviewing a year later and I do feel the overall quality has improved from when they first opened. The flavors tasted deeper and the chicken tikka masala sauce was not as sweet as the last time. I do still wish the samosas were a bit crisper and that the chunks of chicken in the tikka masala were cut smaller. They are coming along very well! read more

Chakra features an all-you-can eat buffet for lunch Monday through Friday (priced at $19 during the soft opening) featuring a wide variety of traditional non-veg and vegetarian Indian favorites like tandooris, paneers, and masalas. The friendly, personable staff is always happy to recommend dishes if you let them know your preferences and dietary restrictions. The lunch buffet includes six or seven entrees as well as basmanti rice, a garden salad, and rice pudding for dessert. Naan is available upon request. I've enjoyed the Bhuna Ghosht, a slow-cooked lamb infused with a selection of Punjabi spices, as well as the Chana Masala, comprised of chickpeas, onions and tomatoes cooked in a thick sauce, and the Yellow Split Pea Daal, comprised of yellow split peas simmered with ginger and spices -- all of which were very tasty and very filling. The ambience and decor was unique , vibrant colors and silk flower foliage throughout . The manager , Rex, was extremely helpful and even made suggestions based on our palate. Chakra is so tasty! This is definitely some of the best Indian food that I've tried in the area, and it's safe to say I'll be ordering again next time that Indian food craving hits. The chicken tikka was phenomenal. I can't do spice, and I like how you can select your spice level when you order takeout. Sometimes mild is even too spicy for me (lol) and this was truly mild. The sauce was so sweet and fragrant and tasted so good dipped in buttery garlic naan. The chicken was also high quality white meat. I also tried the samosas, which were a bit spicy for my liking but were prepared very well. This chicken tikka really can't be beat, and I'm excited to have a new go-to for my one of my favorite dishes. read more

Visited this place on Friday with my wife, my friend and his wife. It was quite a drive for us so was hoping the food was something we'd really enjoy but I thought it was a bit of a let down. Appetizers ++Kalmi kabab - this was so good that we ordered another portion ++ Palak chaat - again, so good -- chicken 65 - how can you mess up a chicken 65? There should have been the right level of chilli, some dried leaves. This one seemed to have been made by someone who's never had the dish Tandoori prawns - was ok Entrees -- Bhuna Ghosht - the lamb was either poor quality or not well cooked. You would never know what you're walking into when you see this place on the inside because it has such a really nice natural vibe that's not your typical Indian restaurant feel. The service is just spectacular and the food is absolutely delicious.. everything here tastes fresh we've tried so many different dishes and so many different appetizers. Really wanted to like this place since I've been looking for a good Indian spot around Morristown, but it was such a disappointment. I will caveat that my experience with this place has been take-out only, have not tried dining in so maybe that would be a better experience, and it's worth mentioning that the dining room looked rather nice inside. My rating is based off the food. First off, whoever it was that answered the phone, they were quite rude. But whatever, I can get past this. The Samosas are probably the only thing that is actually worth getting. But they were rather small for $8. The Paneer Makhanwala dish was essentially drenched in butter. I expected some from the description but it felt like mostly butter and almost no tomato flavor. It's also incredibly messy/oily so it will stain easily if you're bringing it home. We ended up throwing half of it away. The tandoori dishes were also very dry and similarly didn't have much of any flavor. Most north Indian restaurants offer this and it's clear to me when its done well vs when it isn't. The Garlic Naan had essentially no garlic on it, which completely defeats the purpose, and was disappointing since I didn't want plain Naan. All in all, probably won't come back. Delicious northern Indian fare served in a quiet dining room decorated with tree branches and flowers, like inside meets outside. My desi buddies and I tried pakoras (fried onion and fried potatoes), chicken kebabs covered in onion (fantastic), also daal (black lentil), chicken in masala and lamb in masala. The curries were served family style with a huge pot of fresh rice. Those super thick rich cream sauces had almost no heat and our server didn't ask us if we wanted mild or spicy, next time have to speak up. A side of naan was properly dripping in butter, a side of roti was properly dry & hot. Vegetarian rating: 4 stars for the many entree choices at dinner: aloo gobi (potatoes), bhindi (okra), chana (chickpeas), saag paneer (cheese) and dal (lentil). They serve buffet at lunch for about $19, order from the menu at dinner. That dinner menu was labeled "soft opening menu" so I think it might get longer with time. My goodness but we love this place!! Kids, mom, dad--all of us will eat here with enthusiasm any time it's offered. The hosts are lovely and welcoming people, and the food is just delicious. They are very adept at adjusting for spice levels, which is great if you have some folks who are afraid of a little heat. We've tried both vegetarian and meat dishes, and found all to be wonderful. We've eaten many of their appetizers, a lot of their mains, and some of their breads and have never been disappointed. On our most recent visit, we also sampled desserts. (we usually don't have room, but this was a birthday, so we needed to make room). Even those were great. All in all, I find this to be an awesome and accessible Indian restaurant for folks who may be new to the cuisine and for those who loved it for a long time. I came here with my mother for an early Mother's Day lunch. The buffet is very reasonably priced and has plenty of options for meat eaters as well as vegetarians. The food quality was very good. My only issue was that there were some small bones in my chicken tandoori. The ambiance of this place is beautiful. It is decorated with colorful pink and purple flowers. You get a warm free basket of fresh naan bread with your order and service is friendly and attentive. Also, I heard some other customers asking for tea, which they did not have. Most Indian restaurants have tea. They should add it to their menus. This place had mango Lhassi which I saw a lot of people drinking and enjoying. All in all, worth checking out and provides an alternative to a town without a ton of Indian cuisine. read more

We are a party of 7 who visited Chakra recently. Let me start this review by saying this is the most authentic indian food you will ever find in New Jersey. We ordered Papdi Chat, Lasooni gobi, Chicken 65, Bhagara Shrimp and Malai Chicken tikka for the appetizers. Chicken 65 was so tasty that we had to order it a second time. It tastes exactly like the street chicken 65 made at a Noodle stall in South India. For the mains, their chicken and egg fried rice is great, dhaba chicken curry reminded us of chicken pasanda we used to crave from India. Kashmiri chicken has a nice twist with raisins. Everyone in our party enjoyed this place a lot! We are from Hyderabad (mix of South and North cuisines) and we have tried North Indian food at several establishments in New Jersey but nothing compared to this. We literally licked everything off the plates, it was that good. Cannot recommend this place enough! Service was great too and the wait staff checked on us frequently. While walking down the street last week I noticed Chakra for the first time and decided to give them a try. The decor was attractive. I asked an employee which of the entrees on the buffet tables contained cream. He said All of them except for the lamb. I was surprised at the lack of variety. Some of us would prefer dishes that do not contain cream. A basket of hot naan was delivered to my table. It was SO disappointing. It tasted like it was made from Pillsbury biscuit dough. In general, the food was ok. I've been eating Indian food for more than 40 years and this is the best I've ever had. I've been there around 10 times since they opened last year and love the Tamarind Eggplant appetizer and all their chicken entrees (had them all). Although it's not on the menu, they have mango lassi which is great. The only criticism I have is that on occasion their chef is off (day after Christmas) and it's clear that whoever is sitting in doesn't follow the same recipes.
