I stopped into this restaurant for a High Tea event and when I arrived I parked in the lot. I walked into the restaurant and was greeted amd sat with some others I knew. We were served by a wonderful staff! I had: Mango Lassi Dosa Goat and Chicken Biryani (Buffet) Aloo Tikki Chaat Vegetable Samosa Onion Bhaji Chai Tea All was so wonderful especially the goat amd the mango lassi! You can do walk in but also make a reservation, which is helpful for larger parties. The service is great - they are quick to offer water and take used plates. Ordered in from here recently and was really disappointed. Lasooni Gobi - supposed to be in a honey garlic sauce but we tasted neither. It simply tasted slightly oily with a little salt. Chili Paneer - quite a small serving size compared to everything else. Standard fare. We thought it would be batter fried as the description stated. Chana Masala- serviceable but way better to be had out there. Schezuan Hakka Noodles - Zero flavor. It had potential with how the noodles were cooked with fresh veggies but no flavor. We ordered the schezuan version thinking it would be spicer. I have never eaten at an Indian restaurant where the chefs were "light" handed lol. Since the sold - this place has not kept up with the previous owners quality and service. If you ask for Mild (even wrote it in notes on the online order - Baby mild) be prepared for it to be spicy so potentially upper mild/medium. Not cool when you have kids who enjoy Indian food but couldn't have any because it was too spicy for them. The lack of communication when you pick up the food as well is frustrating. The last 3x I got there 10-15 minutes after they said the food would be ready and it still wasn't ready. The guy goes in the back and comes back out (all 3 recent visits) and doesn't say a word. So after waiting a couple of minutes I had to flag him down only to find out "they are packing it now"...which is BS...don't say it will be ready at a certain time and it isn't and when a request for less spicy is made - please honor it. Also need to add that they are expensive and definitely not as good as they used to be. Saturday night at 6:30 and the place was dead. Maybe people go much later - dunno. I don't get the fuss over this place. The website to order isn't user friendly. We ordered crab samosas; we received something not crab and subsequently got sick. The chicken tikka masala was like pasta sauce; very under seasoned. The butter season was tender and I ordered it spicy and it was so bland. The rice pudding wasn't good or traditional. The garlic naan was just okay and the roti was pretty good. Before the discount an app, two entrees, and rice pudding was $90. Definitely won't be back. read more

It's surprising to me that Begum Palace is the only restaurant in Madison specializing in Indian cuisine but, despite the lack of competition, Begum Palace offers tasty, authentic Indian, Thai, and Indo-Chinese fusion dishes crafted from fresh ingredients and served in a relaxed atmosphere at a reasonable price. Begum Palace features daily lunch specials during the week and an all-you-can eat buffet on Saturday and Sunday. The robust menu includes a wide variety of traditional non-veg and vegetarian Indian favorites like tandooris, paneers, and masalas as well as innovative Indo-Chinese and Thai fusion dishes. The friendly, personable staff is always happy to recommend dishes if you let them know your preferences and dietary restrictions. I've enjoyed the Chana Masala, comprised of chickpeas, onions and tomatoes cooked in a thick sauce, and the Yellow Split Pea Daal, comprised of yellow split peas simmered with ginger and spices -- both of which were very tasty and very filling. The food has always been tasty and served quickly. Pro Tip: The restaurant, like many others, has added a 3% surcharge for using credit cards to pay for your meal. I ordered a "spicy" last night, and it was perfect. Don't worry, heat lovers, they now also offer an "extra spicy" level, which I think will be too much for me. My wife, Susan, and I went to Madison, NJ, around lunchtime. in looking for a restaurant we found this Indian restaurant. Now, we are big fans of Indian food, and we were rewarded with an awesome experience. The decor put us at ease as soon as we walked in. While we were deciding what to eat, our waiter brought us pappadam with tamarind, mint and onion chutney. The menu was fairly extensive with both Southern and Northern dishes. I decided on a thal lunch special with several vegetarian and non-veg options. I chose a vegetable Korma that came with a tasty bean dhal, basmati rice, naan bread and a sweet, sticky rice dessert. The sauce was very tasty. My wife ordered a lamb Kati roll that was indescribably wonderful. The lamb was tender and delicious. The sauce soaked into the bread and each bite made you want to take the next. We didn't order them but we saw that they also had several dosas and utthapams on the menu...maybe next time! What a treat to walk into a beautifully decorated and comfortable restaurant to a delicious luncheon buffet. It's so great to see the famous Indian buffets back after they closed for so many years and this place has delicious choices with lamb chicken and vegetarian. This is the first time back here since before the pandemic. Noticed that they have a weekend lunch buffet, so decided to stop by. I didn't notice a price for the buffet, but I do recall in the past that the dinner buffet was about $16, so figured it would be around that price or less. There is new management, new ownership, and clearly a new chef. The food quality is not even close to what it was previously. The food temperature of most items was lukewarm at best. Fried items were either soggy or hard, there was a weird noodle dish and the noodles were way overcooked. Tandoori chicken was barely recognizable as chicken pieces. A couple of the items were decent - chicken Tikka masala was ok, dal was ok. There was no rice pilaf - it was either plain rice, or you used the rice from the chicken biryani - which was mediocre. Dessert was a nice sweet way to end the meal, and it was the ONLY thing that was actually hot! Naan was good, because it was made fresh for us. Price was surprisingly high for a very limited mediocre lunch buffet - around $19 per person. The price would be fine for better quality and a better variety of food, but at this price, there are so many other places around with better food and better variety. I won't be coming back. This is too bad, since I live less than a mile away :( read more

I came here with friends because they read that the reviews were great -- and it's true! We ordered samosas for the table as our appetizers. I don't remember what my friends ordered, but definitely order regular and garlic naan for the table. They are very generous with the portions. I had the chicken korma. My only issue was that it was not spicy enough, but if you want something silky with coconut milk and aromatic spices, this is the dish to order. I will be sure to come back again and try some thing with heat. Vaishu was our server and she made sure our food and drinks arrived in a timely manner. My friends and I were able to enjoy our appetizers and main courses without feeling overly stuffed. Begum palace left me beggin for more! Great place, super friendly customer service. We had the garlic naan, veggie samosa, chicken curry, daal tarka and basil lamb. The lentil dish and chicken curry were on point, great flavor, but the lamb was a bit tough. Samosas were excellent, not as heavy put you in a food coma as samosas often are, which was pleasant. The food is not very spicy but is well spiced. Definitely the best Indian spot in the area, and the owners are always so friendly and attentive. They also offer a cash discount! read more

I dined here twice during lunch. I had the lunch buffet. Compared to other places with buffets, theirs is somewhat limited. What they do have tastes good, but twice, the food temperature wasn't hot enough. They also just had one type of samosa. You will also have to ask for Naan bread. The price wasn't bad. For two people it came out to $38. I don't think I'll return. I know of a better place, but I'll have to travel 20 mins for it. It's in a community with more Indians so maybe that's why it's better. I believe customer experience can only be improved by an extra body on the floor, until then during busy prime dinner times it's best to be patient. I mean, WOW! My girlfriend Amanda had a last minute craving for Indian cuisine so we decided on Begum Palace being new to the area. One of the best decisions ever. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warmth, kindness and a genuine sense of hospitality. Something that's lacking in most establishments nowadays. Sunny makes you feel at home as soon as you walk through those doors and by the time you're seated, you're seated at his dining room with some of the best dishes you've ever had. The moment that struck me the most -- when Sunny told me, "Everyone you see here aren't customers. They're my guests." This is the type of establishment that every town needs; what every town wants. Begum palace made a small mistake... they forgot the garlic naan in our larger order. When I called to let them know, they sent someone out right away with it and they wouldn't accept a tip for delivering food to us. My kids were so happy... Chicken and Lamb Tikka Masala arrived in unlabeled similar containers. The dishes were for two different people with different dietary needs. The orders had to be remade, as the only resolution for the confusion was to "taste the food", since the sauce was identical. Speaking of the sauce, it was sweet. The lunch specials advertised is for DINE IN ONLY, so be aware of this. Portion size is extremely small for takeout. I don't eat much, and I can honestly say it was smaller than a lunch portion (the entrée). The sauce was extremely sweet. No savorieness to the dish at all, under seasoned. The Tandoori Salmon was overcooked, dry and under seasoned as well. The fish wasn't the freshest either. Overall not a good food experience, Even worse customer service with, not honoring the lunch special for takeout. The Garlic Naan, actually had no garlic flavor. I really wanted to love this place. I enjoyed reading each of the reviews here on Yelp, but can't say I had the same experience. I ordered via DoorDash. The order was delivered well and in a timely fashion.
