We ordered the Chakra Poke Bowl that allowed for choice of 2 protein (opted for tuna and yellowtail) and a side (opted for miso soup), and the Teriyaki Salmon Bento Box that allowed for choice of rice (w opted for white rice) and 2 sides (opted for miso soup and vegetable tempura). The raw fish in the poke bowl tasted fresh and the sushi rice bed was good. I just found some of the pickled veggies to be a little off putting. Maybe I'm not used to the taste or just having these in a poke bowl normally, but I did not like the combination. The bento box was pretty standard. I ordered a couple of rolls and a bubble tea from Chakra through Uber Eats. Though I've never been to the restaurant itself, this order has me inclined to do so. The food was well packed with all three rolls in one container. The drink was sealed, like bubble teas are, so it didn't spill. I had very standard rolls, Boston, Philly and a shrimp tempura. The salmon in the Philadelphia roll was fresh and not smushed into the cream cheese. The tempura was still crisp even thought it was covered for the duration of the delivery. The sauce for the tempura was not enough for the portion provided but it was a generous portion indeed. Skip on the mochi ice cream as well. We felt the mochi skin was too thick and tasted paste-y. The taste was pretty tender and it was filled with meat the dumplings had a good taste a good option to start the night. Phoenix Roll Shrimp tempura and cucumber inside topped with spicy Kani and spicy mayo. Super crunchy and a bit spicy you could taste the shrimp on it, I can recommend having it. I booked the reservation through Kathy on IG you can easily make reservations by calling the restaurant directly. The whole theme of the Japanese restaurant is anime. The naruto decor is on all the walls, ceilings, floor and even the bathrooms. They have a DJ table with a laptop playing electronic music but you can always ask DJ Jason to play any type of music you like. The service here is very attentive. Nana is a super host. They served some specialty cocktail drinks at the party but it's not on the menu. Nana was able to have Jason recreate the drinks for us. I think it's a strawberry lychee drink. Super light and refreshing. Should definitely add some cocktail items to the drink menu. After trying an assortment of the food at the party, I had in mind what I wanted to order already and also asked Nana for some suggestions. You definitely can't go wrong with any of the sushi and sashimi. All fresh and delicious. We had the yellowtail jalapeño, spider roll, spicy Girl roll, naruto roll, ahi tuna app, and the sushi and sashimi for 3. For appetizers, the Peking duck rolled up in the chinese pancake is a must. I really like the sushi pizza l and ll but my friends thought the pancake portion could've been warmed up a little more. Do NOT order from this place on UberEats, I wasted $100+ on inedible food here. The "chakra salad" was not as pictured at all. I am including pictures of it that are shown on UberEats vs. what I received- there was no variety of salad greens and only huge chunks of lettuce thrown into a bowl with gross liquid at bottom which I assume was the water used to wash the lettuce. The yellowtail jalapeño was old and looked like it was sitting out for days and the fish was even disintegrating. The clam soup was not as pictured either with no vegetables and in a dark, overwhelming, ginger flavored soup. The cucumbers that came with the unagi were wilted and smelled old. I did not dare try the octopus or mackerel I ordered because I was not comfortable with the quality, especially since I am traveling overseas tomorrow. The only thing I ate from my order was the edamame since it had the least risk. What a waste. This place is disgusting. I have reported this to UberEats and the department of health. Although Chakra Japanese Fusion is to be commended for opening recently during the Covid-19 quarantine, we would be wary of visiting this restaurant again. We recently ordered a "Sashimi Regular" ($19.95; 14 pieces of sashimi) and a "Fantastic Roll" ($13.95) for take-out. The tuna and salmon sashimi pieces were not fresh -- they were not firm and almost fell apart during handling. The other sashimi pieces had enough of a fishy aftertaste -- another sign that they were not fresh -- that we decided to cook them. We ended up discarding most of the fish because the result was still unpalatable. The "Fantastic Roll" ("salmon, avocado, cucumber inside topped with spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail and spicy mayo crunch, red chili julienne") was more acceptable than fantastic. However, we didn't taste any yellowtail or red chili. Other: - The miso soup was average. - The sushi chef didn't seem to be wearing his face mask correctly. - Suggested tips are calculated on post-tax totals. - It may cost less to order by phone than online. Overall: Unacceptable (1 of 5 stars). 4.5 stars. We noticed this new restaurant when drove by yesterday as we looked for a place to have lunch. Unfortunately for us, they are closed for lunch and don't normally open until 4pm, so we made a point of coming back the next day for an early dinner. The inside of the restaurant is a bit dark but each table is separated by large Japanese screens. The walls, interestingly enough, is decorated with characters from the Japanese anime, Naruto. The menu is quite extensive, and also very hard to read. Luckily, you can scan the QR code to read the menu and all the descriptions on your phone. We ordered the chicken and shrimp teriyaki bento, beef teriyaki bento, fried spring rolls, volcano roll, and the black dragon roll. The bentos were each served with shumai, california roll, vegetable tempura, white rice and miso soup. And both bento boxes were absolutely delicious! I loved that the shumai were steamed and then fried. The teriyaki sauce was a great balance of savory and sweet. And for $15-$17 they were well worth ordering. The fried Spring rolls were okay but I did appreciate that they came with four large pieces in one order. The Volcano roll had spicy crunch tuna jalapeño inside wrapped in sliced avocadoes and topped with spicy mayo. I kind of wished it was spicier but it was really yummy nonetheless. The Black dragon roll had shrimp tempura and mango inside with sliced avocado and topped with eel sauce and sesame seeds. It was so good! Then for dessert we got the mango mille crepe cake and vanilla mochi ice cream. The waiter was sweet enough to give us extra vanilla and strawberry mochi ice cream on the house. I was introducted to Chakra by a friend last year and I really like the place. The location is on the other side of Main Street (closer to the highway opposite of downtown Flushing). The restaurant serves fusion Japanese food like the name suggests and has a very cool theme to it. Anyone who is a fan of the Japanese anime Naruto will love the place just for the decor. But they also have great food as well! The menu itself (in keeping with the theme of the restaurant is a large scroll you literally have to untie and it covers most of the table. This place offers a large variety of rolls that I have not seen at other places. Regular and specialty thrown into the mix along with food options like ramen and rice dishes will have you scratching your head at what to order. The specialty rolls I recommend are Chakra - lobster tail tempura, mango, seared toro, eel sauce, scallion and tobiko. Kakashi - spicy lobster, asparagus, jalapeno, filet minon, eel sauce, yuzu mayo, scallion and sesame seed Sasuke - spicy real snow crab, jalapeno, mango, king salmon, gold flakes My favorite apps include the Peking Duck Negimaki (have not seen that anywhere else) as well as the Green balls (funny name but very good dish). If you want a nice rice dish, their salmon and chicken teriyaki always hit the spot for me. They have dessert options like mango and green tea cheescakes and if are an alcohol connoisseur you will like that they have options for premium sake as well as soju and beer to pair with your food. You would get the best dining experience eating in as all the dishes and sake would be made fresh. They do a good amount of take out business that I noticed each time I ate there but it should be known that if you have food sitinng in a container it will not appear as fresh. My new hangout spot that's walking distance and opens until 1:30 AM! My childhood friends and I grew up around this neighborhood, but they all went away for college so when they do come back, this is the perfect place to meet up. I came around 8:30 PM on a weekday night and it was not crowded. There was one table of 3 to my left and another table of 3 to my right. But they soon left right after we placed our order. About a quarter in, a large party did come in and sat at the only big table across from the sushi bar. They were loud but the music was louder. The restaurant has a DJ set up right where you walk in and is decorated with a bunch of Naruto anime decors. My favorite things would have to be the Japanese wooden separators they have between each table. Their menu is a large scroll that barely fits the table. Very aesthetic but not very practical. I arrived 10 minutes before my friend and the waitress already came up to me twice to check on me. Then when my friend finally arrived, she must've checked on us three times to see if we were ready to order. I'm not sure whether to feel appreciated for the over attention or annoyed. We placed our drink order first which was a large taro bubble tea and they provided it in a to-go cup which was smart (without us even asking). However, we did end up finishing it because we sat until 1:15 AM right before they were closing. The bubble tea I would say is very standard and I would definitely get it again. However, it's not especially unique or anything since it is not a bubble tea shop but better than coffee shops and such. For food, we shared a kani salad which is very delicious with just the right portions of mango and cucumber slices, tiny orange fish eggs, and spicy mayo flavoring. We ordered one of their specialty sushi rolls to share, the Sakura roll, which was just what I was looking for - a crispy shrimp tempura roll with avocado and spicy mayo. My friend prefers the ones with cream cheese which we've ordered in the past, but I'm not a fan of cream cheese in my sushi. We ended the meal with a heart vegetable udon which does not cost extra. If you add meat (ex: chicken, beef, shrimp) it does cost more. However, the vegetables were soaked just enough to be soft and crunchy to my liking and in a flavorful broth. The udon is also soft enough and better than the packaged ones from the supermarket but of course it cannot compare to my favorite udon places in St. Marks. Can't complain for an alternative that's so close to my home! I absolutely love the ambience here - peaceful in terms of not a lot of people, but the loud music can get annoying sometimes when we can't hear what each other is saying. The staff are very attentive and friendly too. However, I was surprised they didn't offer complimentary water or tea right when we sat down. During the whole meal we were just sipping on our bubble tea. We even stayed way longer past the time we finished our meals and after they handed the check to us and we paid. Eventually, they realized we were here to stay and they handed us two mason jars of ice water which I thought was a kind gesture - better a late bloomer than never. FYI - They use to have outdoor dining in the mist of Covid along with a nice red Torii, a Japanese gate, in the front of the restaurant that are no longer there. Chakra is a Naruto anime themed Japanese restaurant. The server brings over a menu that comes in a large scroll and there are Naruto wall papers to add to the theme. The restaurant is best for 1 to 6 people since most seating is for 4 guests. No reservation is required however there are only about a dozen tables in the restaurant so call ahead if you have a specific seating in mind. They have a sushi bar at the back of the restaurant. First I have to say that the sushi here is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The house special rolls and signature rolls are high quality. I recommend trying those before anything else on the menu. The Phoenix Roll is shrimp tempura topped with kani salad and panko bread crumbs. This is one of the top 3 sushi rolls on my list. Now on to the other items that were not so great. The yakisoba noodles needed more soy sauce and the vegetables were very undercooked. The tonkotsu ramen is 4/5 rating at most since it is a simple boiled noodle soup with pork broth.
