Amaebi Sweet Shrimp, Herring, Tamago, and Flying Fish Roe sushi in foreground
    Susan C.

This time my order was for: P9. Silver Sushi Party Tray $66 20 pieces of assorted sushi: believe it was tuna, salmon, yellowtail or sea bream, shrimp, and white tuna (escolar)*. In the past, I believe surf clam and saba (aka Spanish mackerel one of my faves here) were sometimes included. + 3 rolls: - 8 pieces California roll, - 8 pieces eel avocado roll - 8 pieces spicy tbd fish with crunch roll This is a steal in this day and age of NYC dining so I can't complain too much. I've been getting sushi for take out periodically from Yoi the past several years, usually some combination of sushi combos and platters. As my initial review states, I was really impressed when I first tried their sushi. For the price: a) the sushi rice is decent, b) the fish is fresh, and the amount is generous. In the past year or so, I've started noticing a slight decline, a few times now one of the nigiri options (out of the 5 fish types) has been a little off, not always the same one. To be fair, with the travel distance being on the longer side, maybe part of this is on me, and they do generously pack their sushi with a bag of ice on top in effort to keep it cool. So I give them credit for this bc that's more effort than most places. No unpleasant after effects thus far so planning to continue ordering from them. I wonder if it's hard to keep up the standards and affordable prices given how fuel prices keep going up. That being said I'd suggest maybe give less pickled ginger or soy sauce (which is a large container though also tastes a bit watery) because while these seem to be included very plentifully, they aren't necessarily needed in such large quantities. *tasty, but this white fish should only be consumed in small portions, which I just learned recently. Not specific to just this restaurant, a general PSA since many casual sushi restaurants serve this.

The only place I go for sushi for good customer service and fresh fish. Everything is affordable and tasty. It's a staple restaurant in my family. It's convenient from tangram and sky view and it's quiet enough for that you can have a nice simple dinner

Yoi is probably my number 1 for sushi restaurants! It's not located on main street flushing, but it's right across from one of the tangram entrances and it's definitely not hard to find! I've been going to this place for YEARS and unlike other places I've been to, it's still so affordable and their quality of fish is always consistent! The owner pops by here and there and him, as well as the staff, always makes sure everything is to our liking. They added a second floor that was renovated a few years ago so now there's even more seating! With the new renovation, the space feels more alive and cozy.

My family's second time here; highly recommend! You get excellent quality sushi for a very reasonable price point. The shrimp tempura roll has the perfect amount of breading and the salmon tastes fresh! The interior is clean and I love the decor. I believe they have an upstairs seating area too. The staff is also very friendly.

Getting fresh sushi at a good price is hard to come by and I'm glad Yoi Sushi is in the neighborhood. Friendly staff and quick service. The establishment is on the smaller side but they do have an upstairs as well. Very bright interior and clean setting. My family and I love getting the bento boxes and lunch specials. Plenty of variety.

This is a place that looks very unassuming from the outside but has a nice interior design. I came in for a late lunch and luckily there was plenty of seating available. I believe they also have an upstairs dining area. I decided to try out the lunch special, which consisted of pork katsu, shrimp tempura, miso soup and vegetable udon. The portions were very generous and I liked the visual presentation of the food. My issue was the actual flavor or more specifically the lack of flavor in the food. The pork katsu was extremely dry and just didn't taste like there was any seasoning on the meat. It was more tolerable when mixing with the tonkatsu sauce. The udon broth was also extremely bland. The most flavorful thing was the passion fruit juice. I would not rule out coming back to this place but I will definitely order sushi or sashimi instead. The service was friendly and attentive and prices were reasonable.

Just ate here so this review is very fresh. Service was really appreciated and attentive my food came out fast for lunch but not fast enough to where they were like reheating things. Everything tasted home made and great for the price. Place was cozy and didn't feel cramped as someone with long legs. Would I go back? Absolutely. Appreciate yall.

Very friendly staff affordable menu definitely should try, I love their miso soup, it's spacious with chargers incase you need to charge your phone while you eat great restaurant over all!

On a recent cold and frigid night. My wife and I had a hankering for sushi and sashimi. We were in the area and based on their stellar reviews were decided to try out Yoi Sushi Japanese. We are very familiar with the area and must have walked passed this neatly tucked away gem without ever noticing it. Our son had mentioned that he and his friends have been going to a sushi place near Asian Jewel, our former dim sum go to place. When we sat down to order, my wife and I were quite impressed by how clean and cozy the restaurant was. Kind of on the small side with a few tables on the ground floor level. The menu offered cooked food as well as fresh sushi. We decided to start with the sushi & sashimi combo. They also offered a sushi or sashimi a la carte menu where you can choose to order by the piece. I believe that if you choose one of their standard menu sushi or sashimi orders and pay with cash, the a la carte price per piece of sushi / sashimi is only $1.35 / piece! Well we were famished and in addition to the sushi & sashimi plate we ordered two rounds of sushi & sashimi a la carte. Their salmon and yellow tail was so fresh and so scrumptious as was the sweet shrimp. The tuna was also very yummy and did not disappoint! When all was said and done we were quite happy with our experience with Yoi Sushi Japanese. I highly recommend Yoi if you're anywhere near Tangram Mall or Asian Jewel and have a hankering for yummy sushi. They also offer cooked food as well as ramen bowls.

I came to Yoi Sushi for a family dinner. We were seated in a booth on the first floor, but I believe they also have an upstairs dining area. The doorway is quite inconveniently placed because only one average sized person can squeeze out at a time. It was crowded the night we went too... We ordered the seafood ramen ($17.95), super bento box ($24.99), Usutsukuri ($12.99), 3 roll special ($15), and a la carte sushi/sashimi. They have a deal where you can order as many pieces of sushi/sashimi for $1.35 each as long as you ordered at least $20 of food from the regular menu and pay with cash. Overall, I would only order their sushi/sashimi because everything else tasted mediocre, or we didn't quite like it. Prices are good and affordable for the quality and portion size you get. If I'm ever craving sushi and don't want to travel to my go-to places in Manhattan then I will definitely come here again.

Sashimi regular set with 2 a la carte amaebi (sweet shrimp)
    Matthew H.

I ordered takeout from here during the pandemic more times than I can remember, but I finally had the chance to dine in recently. It just so happened that they had a limited promotion where you could order as many pieces of sushi/sashimi as you wanted for $1.35 each (as long as you ordered at least $20 of food from the regular menu and paid with cash). We ordered the "sashimi regular" set (12pc sashimi, selection varies) to hit that minimum, and then from the promotional menu we ordered around 20? more pieces. Fish was generally delicious across the board. I particularly liked how rich and slightly sweet the salmon that came with the sashimi set was (fattier than the the salmon a la carte which had a lighter flavour). Other highlights included the amaebi sweet shrimp (which is honestly a steal at $1.35 per piece) and the red snapper. Service was very friendly and efficient. Price point ultimately came out to around $2/piece (including tax/tip) which is pretty good for sushi of this quality. Would definitely recommend taking advantage of this promotion before it ends.

Pork and chicken katsu set meal

We were craving sushi and came across Yoi Sushi. We ordered the Pork and Chicken Katsu meal set and it came with several other sides with it. Everything about the meal was perfect, the crispness from the katsu and tempura, the freshness from the sashimi and Kani salad, and the miso soup paired perfectly with the meal. The staff was very attentive and nice. The lighting and seating booths/area gave a sense of privacy and comfortability which im a huge fan of.

We dropped by after checking out Fans Week at the US Opens. Amazing lunch and they really feed you here. Best sushi lunch, hands down. The food just kept coming out and we left full. The fish was very fresh and chicken katsu was a serving by itself. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant has a limited seating and we were happy to have gotten a booth upon arrival.

Love how it also has the most pieces of meat compared to other ramen bowls on the menu. I think the number of meat pieces has been increased for the better this time. Here's the quirky bit: in addition to the price of the ramen, you will be temporarily charged an extra $5 as a deposit for the bowl. Honestly, I'm not sure how authentic this ramen would be considered, but it sure did taste pretty good. (Did it teleport me to Japan? Not really since I've never been in Japan. The actual space is pretty nice and gives a family restaurant in a good way. It was a little awkward with the waitresses, who seemed to be on the quieter side, but nonetheless, they were kind. I got the abalone in the ponzu sauce ($8) and the wagyu beef sukiyaki lunch set ($21). The abalone was actually really good, and as my first time trying something like that, it was well worth it. The wagyu set was also pretty filling and very much worth the price. It came with a salad, an egg soufflé, sliced lotus root, pickled ginger, and rice. The actual sukiyaki was light and slightly sweet, but refreshing. I love that they packed it with vegetables in the sukiyaki. They even give you a complimentary ice cream at the end of your meal. The only thing that docked a point for me was that one other table, and I was the only one present at the restaurant, and there were two waitresses, and I believe another man was working, not too sure what his role was. All three of them would continuously check up on the other table, whereas I would have to flag them down if I needed anything. I noticed them making small conversation with the other table, but they would not really speak to me. It felt a little weird, given that we were the only two tables and somehow they had three people check up on them, and I had zero. The servers were still nice when I flagged them down, but it was just a little strange to be given that treatment. I'm hoping it was just an off day, as I do want to go back and try the other items.
