Located with New World Mall food court in downtown Flushing is Dawan Ramen. Food: I ordered the following to go: Tonkotsu Ramen - broth was separated from the ramen and ingredients in a clever to go bowl that stacked together. This survived my trip home and saved the ramen from being overly soggy. The ramen itself was very good as they gave a generous portion of pork. (4/5) Takoyaki - this did not survive the drive home very well as it was soggy and mushy. The flavor was good, but the texture was a disappointment. This is not really the restaurants fault as fried foods aren't generally good half hour later. Ambience - the food stall looked very clean and all the menu options had pictures to clearly see what you are ordering.
While quite a few stalls have unfortunately closed shops due to COVID, there have been three new ones since our last visit to the New World Food Court. Dawan Ramen being one of them. The signage and décor were quite impressive, giving it an upscale feel. We were immediately drawn to it. Despite having the word "ramen" in its name, it has substantial representations of udons, dons (rice bowls), and appetizers, in addition to its 6 ramen offerings. The two overhead displays continually advertised 4 combo entrees. I was particularly enticed by the rice combo: Poached Egg Beef Don with Karaage Chicken. It actually also came with a cup of miso soup and a can of soda. All for $13.50 tax included. The serving for the Karaage was more generous than I had expected. The beef was very thinly sliced and very tender and tasty. The rice was bouncy, cooked perfectly. And the runny poached egg topping provided the final touch, knocking it out of the park. The person taking orders wasn't particularly friendly, but the food more than made up for it. I'm definitely a fan. Next time I hope to try their flagship ramen dishes.
I just went here today at around 1pm I thought the food was really good! I was pleasantly surprised as it was the first time I ate here and I'm not crazy familiar with Japanese food outside of takoyaki and ramen. I ordered the unagi don which was very filling and delicious. It was nice and tender. I don't have that much to say here but I felt like the price was fair and what I tried was great.
Went to the mall's food court for a quick bite to eat. For a Friday afternoon, it was surprisingly not too crowded. It was easy to find a place to sit down after getting my food. Even though this is a ramen/udon place, the employees speak in Mando (and English if you need it). I ordered the Katsu Don and paid with cash, although a sign by their register said they would accept card if the purchase is $15 or more (mine was only $9.50). There is an option to either eat it at the food court or take it to go. My food only took around 5 minutes to be prepared, and it came with miso soup. Everything was a good temperature and the katsu was nice a crispy. Overall the food met my expectations for food court food. Definitely nothing special; I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, and if I went to the food court I would probably try a different restaurant over eating at this location again anytime soon. However for the price, the speed at which is was prepared and the quality of the food was satisfactory.

It is supposed to be thick, rich and flavorful. They do give you a decent amount of noodles, but that is about the only positive thing to note. If you are going to pay $14 for a ramen bowl, there are much better choices out there in Flushing.
Small ramen/udon shop in the Queen's Mall Food Court in the basement; they charge $5 deposit for the bowl. Their base pork broth udon bowl has a soft-boiled egg, two kinds of seaweed, a slice of the fish cake and four pieces of fatty pork, which isn't bad at all, though I would rather have a stronger white miso version, this will do on a cold day.
We had never been to flushing but I had heard the food court in the New World mall was the place to go for food. Just make sure you have cash on you. This place was so good. The ladies that helped us didn't know much English but at least they had photos for the items on the menu. I had the spicy ramen which came in a beautiful cast iron pot and lid, so for a food court place the presentation was incredible. My husband had a soba noodle dish which also came in a really nice bowl and it was also really good. I think it might have been at the top of our list for foods we ate on our trip. Definitely going back in the future.

I initially chose to get food here on a whim and was craving takoyaki, there's also another nearby stall that offered takoyaki but I rather have bonito flakes than pork floss. I also got their karaage, which in reality is more like Taiwanese popcorn chicken with basil leaves---but it was still yummy. Their matcha almond pudding was also quite delicious, if you're a fan of sweet almond pudding don't pass on this. Moving onto food, I ate the combo with Tomato beef udon and takoyaki. The tomato beef udon is tangy which is right up my alley (I'm also get easily satisfied with udon). So sometimes they include a lemon and sometimes they don't, what's the purpose of the lemon? Not sure, aesthetics? I don't think the lemon really serves much purpose to be honest. They also have a combo where you can get udon and takoyaki, just a heads up you will get 4 takoyaki pieces instead of the usual 6 pieces. The taste of the takoyaki is decent, you'll end up with nicely rounded takoyaki (not the half round/half flat microwave takoyaki), the takoyaki pieces have a small pieces of octopus--so don't expect to get huge pieces. I also got the donburi for the family once, the donburi is heavy. There's a lot of rice so it's super filling. One thing I also like is how they pack the food when you do take out. The ramen/udon and toppings are separated from the broth. Theres a plastic top in between the broth and noodles. Overall is it gourmet? No. But it's a unique addition to the food court, it's fast an efficient (orders are ready within 10-15 minutes), and the food is decent.
Got the tomato beef ramen... was not a fan.. Beef tasted too squishy/fatty and I don't even like tomatoes but got the tomato ramen. Did not taste good. Bad choice by me but the noodle texture and amount they put in was promising. I believe if I got any other flavor I would have really enjoyed this.
It's a bit too early for the day to have such a strong bone soup which the shop claimed 8 hour-broth. PuDuo bone broth Ramen. I will reserve a star for them when they start to serve with a ceramic bowl again.
I only got one thing here: agedashi tofu. This is a new spot, which is a little out of place in the food court. Most of the places in the food court are either chinese, korean, or some type of middle ground between the two. I would typically say that places like this which don't fit are taking a gamble but I was pleased with the tofu that I ordered. I think overall I would come again, especially since the tofu only costs like $4. they also serve ramen here too, so if you want to try that, go ahead.

Not for those who are looking for fancy authentic Japanese food, but good enough to satisfy casual cravings for a really good price. I usually get the tonkatsu ramen ($9) or the beef rice bowl, both of which are really good. The ramen comes with sliced pork that melts in your mouth as you chew, along with a tea egg (slightly overcooked but understandable since the Chinese usually don't like their eggs too raw), seaweed, and some vegetables like bamboo shoots. The broth is also decent and you can adjust the thickness size of noodles you order! The unagi don ($~11) was delicious but a tad bit too sweet for me. I was really thirsty afterwards, so I'd recommend having some water at hand if you're going to order it. The beef bowl is amazing! You get so much meat for a great price ($9). I couldn't finish it and still had lots of beef left over at the end. They do have a $5 deposit so don't forget to return the bowl they give if you're eating to-stay.
Still the exact same taste of the Japanese-Styled Chicken Ramen that I have remembered from two years ago. Apparently, Dawan Ramen has rebranded themselves as Daimaru Ramen a while back. Plus, they also have paper menu versions so customers can now take a copy to look at what options are being offered at home. They accept both cash and card. Located inside New World Mall Food Court on the second floor. Very close to the 7 train. Cute ambiance of the lanterns. This booth particularly is towards the back of the food hall. I usually get the Japanese-Styled Chicken Ramen because it's the most affordable for its price value ($12.50). No tax has been added to the total. Love how it also has the most pieces of meat compared to other ramen bowls on the menu. I think the number of meat pieces has been increased for the better this time. Would say there're about 15-20 pieces in total compared to the 8-9 pieces two years ago. Got there at 8:40pm and the food hall is about to close in 20 mins. Quickly ordered, paid, waited 10 mins max in the seating area, and then received my food shortly afterwards. Staff is polite + patient + generous. Chowed everything down in 15 minutes or so. Noodles: Savory + Flavorful Bamboo Shoots: Crunchy + Fresh Half Soft Boiled Egg: Soft + Golden Chicken: Tender + Well Seasoned Seaweed: Melts on my tongue Sweet Corn: Lightly sweetened on its own. Ramen Soup/Broth: Savory without being salty. Would always go back to this particular booth for other scrumptious udon and noodle dishes along with the appetizers. My stomach just feels so warm and satisfying right now. read more
Late review (like always). I tried their Tonkatsu ramen while visiting New World Mall (aka the place where your taste buds go for a world tour). Here's the quirky bit: in addition to the price of the ramen, you will be temporarily charged an extra $5 as a deposit for the bowl. I'm a fan of this because it ensures there's no plastic waste from each serving. (Mother Earth approves this message.) Other stores around the food court should totally adopt this technique. It's just more sustainable, and who doesn't want to save the planet while slurping noodles? Now, onto the ramen itself: it was decently good and satisfying. Honestly, I'm not sure how authentic this ramen would be considered, but it sure did taste pretty good. (Did it teleport me to Japan? Not really since I've never been in Japan. Did it make my taste buds do a happy dance? Absolutely.) I didn't think it was bad at all, but then again, my ramen expertise is about as deep as a kiddie pool. Located in New World Mall in the food court is this wonderful ramen shop. It's been renamed to Ramen&Udon now, but the menu is basically the same. I've been going here for a while now, but it was closed for a while during the virus. When I heard it opened back up, I had to immediately order some ramen. A bowl of ramen is only $8.50 and they give a pretty big portion. They were really generous with the soup which is my favorite part. The pork is also super tender and they gave 3 pieces per bowl, which is more than I usually get at other ramen places. For how quick and inexpensive it is, this place can't be beat. Definitely try it out, you will not be disappointed! read more

Headsup on my ramen experience: My ramen tastes have been growing since I've been making my own at home, making 6/8/12/24/36 hour long tonkotsu broth, and trial & error'n miso tare. And I haven't really eaten ramen outside for a while. I think this place is OK for a quick & OK ramen in Flushing. There aren't many choices in flushing, but they do some things right here that I find other shops in Flushing don't do. I ordered medium thickness noodles for a miso ramen. The thing they do well here is the noodles, there's an option for ramen thickness which is a good sign, and I'm thinking they use Sun noodles because the texture of the noodle is pretty good and feels familiar. The broth is meh, I don't really know what the broth is made of, there's no flavors that come to mind, maybe pork and chicken but it's very light. It's on the thin side and doesn't have much fat to it. The miso tare was on the very very light side. I asked them if there was any miso in it and they asked if I wanted more, which I agreed to. Which was nice of them to do that. When I got it back, it was a bit too salty, which led me to believe they use like an awase miso (half white/half red usually). Their miso tare just seems to be miso paste, nothing much more added, or maybe they add salt to it and it's not awase, who knows. The toppings. Chashu was okay, nothing to rave. The menma was very much meh too - not flavored enough imo, corn - just canned corn, egg - too done - looks like a 7 minute egg, and cabbage. All in all, its passable mainly because of the noodles, the broth was really not there though. And I don't expect it to be amazing because it's in the new world basement. For quick options, its better than Ajisen Ramen and it's passable for me. But don't expect a deep hearty ramen here, just a light one, and if you want it heartier, you can ask, which is nice. read more

Have a short lunch time? Don't wanna tip? Craving for Ramen? Go to New world food court. There's a new Japanese Ramen booth called "Dawan Ramen" or "Ramen and udon". I checked in twice within a month and I always order #1. It's pork broth with 4 slices of char shiu, 1/2 egg, seaweed, bamboo shoot on ramen. Char shiu was not rolled up, but was bbq perfectly and had 50/50 fat (small) (-1 star) Price was great! $9.00 to fulfill my craving. This booth also uses beeper system, instead of cashier screaming out order. Bowls are $5.00 deposit, remember to return. Free WiFi password is behind beeper. Enjoy.. read more

This is absolutely my favorite ramen place in New York City and let me tell you why. First of let me start by saying I've been to the best of the best in NYC as far as ramen goes ichiran, Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop, etc..this place blows them out of the water. I've lived in flushing for 3 years and found this gem about 2 weeks ago and can't stop eating there at this point they give me free desserts but I get the Shoyu ramen which is not only beautiful to the eye but the taste is simply put amazing. I can't describe it with words. The broth is a great balance of richness and oil just enough soy sauce to compliment the balance. The pork belly in the ramen is just sliced so thin and has the perfect amount of fat so when you eat a slice it's just delicious. One last thing you MUST try is the pork buns DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT THEM just don't do it..they are perfects the bun is light and airy and the pork belly in the middle is so soft it just breaks apart in your mouth, and with the BBQ sauce they put on them I'm telling you this place ranks 1st in my opinion read more
