I love Chalo's Tacos! I have been getting takeout Tamales from there for at least 10 years. I have had tamales one time each from a number of restaurants. This is the only restaurant I've ever ordered them twice. As a matter of fact, I have ordered them from Chalo's Tacos at least 90 times over the years. Their masa to filling ratio is perfect! We love Pork Tamales so that is what we always order. One time they were out of pork so we ordered a combination of tamales, some chicken and I think the others were spinach and cheese. They were excellent as well. Another favorite of mine, when I stop in to eat there, is their Pork Torta! Their bread is so nice and crusty on the outside and so soft and lovely on the inside and, of course, their filling has a beautiful concert of flavors. When they have it, they also make a flan that is full flavored and silky smooth. This is not a fancy place, but I don't always need fancy. I'll take well prepared, great tasting food every single time! read more

Here is authentic Mexican cooking in the locally common 'Calvillo' style. I frequent these kind of places for fast street foods like burritos, tacos, sopes, etc. First thing I noticed here is they have only a limited selection of meats..only asada, al pastor, chicken and lengua. No carnitas, no tripas, no chorizo, etc. I had two of their $4.95 burritos. They were on the medium side size-wise, filled with a lot of cheap vegetables. Chicken one was not good. I didn't care for the diced unseasoned chicken breast, and it had a bland runny sauce inside leaking out everywhere. The asada was a little better, more meaty and none of the runny sauce, but beef was too tough. So while prices were fair, flavors and quality were just mediocre. It's quite possible I have yet to try their specialty items. But burritos are easy, and could be done much better. read more

This was a great find. One of the women who works behind the counter graciously answered my questions about the menu and had such inviting, good energy. I ordered the flautas which were made fresh and the queso fresco was spot on. The chicken was lightly seasoned and deep fried crispy. Given the "social distancing" that we are all doing, I decided to get out and support one of our favorite restaurants! I called in an order of 6 pork tamales, 4 beef and 4 pork tacos and one beef burrito. All amazing as usual. Chalo's Pork Tamales are the best in OKC! We had a Mexican theme potluck at work and so I decided to bring tamales. After searching for the best tamales in the area, this place popped up. I called the day before to order 2 dozen tamales, just to give them a heads up. The lady on the phone spoke decent English and she was very nice. The next day I came in, the order was already ready for me to pick up. So I really appreciate them for being dependable. The fillings in the tamales were very flavorful and the corn dough wasn't dried, yet it was still firm. The chicken tamales were moist and savory, but the carnitas tasted even better. read more

Meh... red salsa everyone raves about on here, was more like a watery tomato sauce, store bought salsa would have been better. Street tacos (order of 4) was meek with onions and cilantro and as noted by others who reviewed; very bland in any taste.. Wife had poblano & cheese Tamales (one veggie item on menu) -- said they were decent - but overall it's a hard pass next time with so many street taco options throughout the metro. Found this place on Yelp and did not disappoint. Small restaurant but quick service. We had take out of tacos, tamales, burritos and quesadilla, all were very tasty. We went because coworkers said it was good. My wife tried to order Chicken Quesadilla, and I, the beef Quesadilla, extra cheese. We were then informed they were out of chicken, so my wife order the beef as well. They were brought out alone with no sour cream, guacamole, etc. My wife's plate had a sizeable hair on it, and she lost her appetite. My quesadilla wasn't "extra" anything but lettuce. Service was friendly enough, albeit somewhat cursory. The food we ordered (a chicken burrito, two tacos al pastor, and one tamal stuffed with cheese and poblanos) came out fast. All of it was fairly good. That said, the portions were small -- terribly small, we both thought. Also, I asked for a can of Diet Coke and was brought (and charged for) a large bottle of the same. Missed my street tacos when I lived in Colorado. Have driven by this place many many times. Finally had to give it a try. It was a bit busy for a Saturday night. That's quite ok though. Got the beef tacos and chicken and cheese/pepper tamales. Made sure to get lime, green sauce and they also gave me onions and a jalapeño. The tacos were great!!! The cheese and pepper tamales were delicious with the green sauce over them. Would love them a bit more spicy but I just love the heat. Didn't have the chicken tamales (lunch tomorrow). Awe what can I say bad about this place, nothing! They have a small menu and focus on doing it really well. I have only had he beef, I have not tried the other meats. I fell in love with the beef tacos and recently tried the beef torta, it was amazing as well. The poblano tamales as well. All of it is delightful. Tastes fresh and made in house. The price couldn't be better! The only thing is the dining area is a bit warm, worth it just seeing the making there wonderful food for you fresh, hot and pretty darn quick. read more

Small family run place with the best tamales I have found in OKC. They are made and presented simply which it appreciated. The tacos are good but actually better if to go with some time to sit in the foil. For some reason this improves the flavor. Great street style tacos and excellent tamales. The tortillas are fresh and not oily like at other places. The meat is piled high with shredded lettuce and cilantro. This is a 4 star place within its category. This is a strip mall mexican place. Mom and pop type. The daughter waited on us. She helped make the tamales. We are used to Austin type mexican and this comes really close. Its kinda like La Taqueria Original #2 in Edmond. My wife says it is better than Big Truck Tacos and La Taqueria. The al pastor was really crispy. We had the pork tamale, the cheese and poblano tamale, the taco al pastor, the pork and the chicken burrito. We liked the green sauce better than the red sauce because it had a little more heat, but not a lot. When we come back, not if, we will focus on the tamales and the burrito. The burrito was huge. We bought a dozen pork tamales to go to hold us over until we come back. One star off for no chips and a little slow to refill our water. No beer sold. read more

Upon arrival we were disappointed with the lack of chips and queso available (none). But the food made up for it, tasted like my grandma's cooking and definitely hit the spot.
