I come here all the time, and it's honestly one of my favorite places to eat. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is great, and I've never really had a reason to complain before. Carlos is especially amazing--he's always friendly, attentive, and provides excellent customer service. Experiences like the ones I've had with him are a big reason I keep coming back. Unfortunately, tonight was a completely different experience. My friend only ordered a drink while I ordered food. When the bill came, we noticed he had been charged $11 for chips and salsa, which was shocking. We've eaten here many times, and chips and salsa have always been complimentary with a meal, so this caught us completely off guard. When we asked about the charge, our server explained that because my friend didn't order food, she had to charge him for the chips and salsa. While I understand that restaurants have policies, I tried to find a simple solution by asking if she could just add his drink to my ticket since I had ordered a meal anyway. She told me she still couldn't do that and said we would have to pay the charge regardless. What made the situation even more confusing was that she acknowledged chips and salsa come with a meal, yet there seemed to be no flexibility to resolve such a small issue. It wasn't even about the money--it was the lack of consistency and customer service. As regular customers who come here often, it was disappointing to be treated this way over something that could have been handled much more reasonably. A little understanding or willingness to work with us would have gone a long way. I'll continue to say that the food is excellent, and Carlos continues to be one of the best employees here. However, this experience left a bad impression, and I hope management reviews how situations like this are handled so loyal customers don't leave feeling frustrated. read more

I'm originally from Florida... so I am very used to having mind blowing Mexican food. I would not say anything here was mind blowing, but my entree hit the spot. Service was quick on a Tuesday night! I like that this is one of the only places that really stays open a bit later on the weekdays. The complimentary chips with salsa and queso were... interesting. The chips themselves were good but the salsa and queso weren't the best. I ordered the enchiladas verdes as my main and this was pretty good! I always love having a huge side of refried beans. I ordered the strawberry Agua Fresca and was not expecting it to be the milky/creamy type of Agua Fresca. I was actually really disappointed that it tasted just like having strawberry Nesquik milk. I guess that's my fault for not asking more questions about it though! Overall, the people are nice and service was quick! The decor on the walls is really great also. My Mexican food pallet is West Coast built and so far no other city or region in the US has been able to measure up. I am forever spoiled. That said here are the pluses: 1. My meal, steak bites smothered in a sauce made with my favorite chili, "Chile de Arbol." was really tasty! 2. Nice to see every employee wearing A UNIFORM; simple for sure but COHESIVE. 3. My waiter spoke Spanish with me!! 4. Whatever the music it was THE BEST! Why, because it wasn't am annoying repetitive genre. It wasn't loud Mariachi. It was pleasant, yet culturally true. 5. The wait staff were older - not teen agers so they took their jobs seriously and the establishment then, cared more about hiring professionals vs cheap labor. The only thing i did not like had to do with the seating. The one big dining room was furnished with tables only; big long tables and wooden chairs. I wished there was an option of cozy booths or, big ficus trees or room dividing screens, or maybe creative drapes that would offer a bit of privacy and softness. This location is near where I work and I've driven by it numerous times thinking I should try it. Today I was on my own and so decided to go for lunch. I really enjoyed my taco salad and the service was excellent. They were attentive without being overbearing. I had everything I needed throughout the entire meal. What more can you ask for? Tried Abel's last night for the first time. It had good things and bad things let's start with the good. We were greeted promptly and seated right away on a busy Friday night. The menu is quite large offering quite a big selection so there is bound to be something for everyone. The chips and queso were nice. The salsa wasn't too spicy that my wife couldn't handle it. Our dinner came out very promptly and were correct. Now to the bad part the taste of both of our entrees wasn't bad but it wasn't nothing noticeable or new either. The fajita meet on my nacho tasted like old stew meat or reconstituted beef jerky. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really good either. Restaurant is older and it shows in its condition. Salsa is very low flavor watered down and zero spice just garlic and cilantro and queso is the quick starch plastic tasting one, not legitimate cheese! Food was bland but service was okay, the place could use some improvements as far as quality of the starters, menus, cleanliness and exterior appearance. My wife & I have been going to the sane dentist for over 15 years and often said we're going to try that place as we drove past year after year! For some reason or another we never did . . . until last week! If you like Mexican food then this is a must try! Our waiter was awesome, very patient while we decided what to order. The most typical "Tex Mex" restaurant in OKC. I spend almost 20 years eating their famous "Pork Ribs" with onions and jalapeños grilled. Come with rice , beans , pico de gallo and guacamole as side. Also there are many fresh fruit, aguas and drinks. read more

I love some homemade, well close enough to homemade, Mexican food! This place is located right in the neighborhood I grew up in, so there's plenty of memories here. I came in for a quick lunch bite and was immediately seated. My server was nice, quick and efficient. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the enchilada (chicke) with a crema sauce and a side of beans. The food was so delicious! Nothing beats a good meal that's not gonna cause a strain in your pockets. I was happy to have the waitress offer me a sopapilla for a dessert! I was pretty impressed by the amount of food given for the price. The fish was fried to perfection and crunchy with every bite. Even the bones were good to eat but I wouldn't recommend too many given they are bones. Maybe a little more salt on your own if you want it saltier. The rice and beans mixed together were so soft and delicious. The tacos though, were on a totally different level. They were one of the tastiest I have to say. This place is very popular so I thought I'd give it a try. There is a front room with a cash register and small items to buy, but no host/hostess to greet you so you are left to stand there awkwardly to be seated. The dining rooms feel like a cafeteria/mess hall rather than regular restaurant dining as the tables are close to one another and it is very loud. Our waiter was very fast and attentive, but the food was very mid flavor wise. The margarita tasted like there was no alcohol in it. First off...we have been coming to abels for a very long time. We previously had enjoyed it. Today was not that experience. The food was not great and our waiter was very not friendly. Told waiter I wanted a coke. He didn't ask what kind. He just ran to bring me a cup of coke on ice. A fountain drink. I corrected him and explained i wanted a mexican coke, in a bottle. He rolled his eyes, grabbed the cup of soda and walked off. I sat there drinkless for over 20 minutes before he finally brought me drink. He was short, curt and not friendly. My fajitas meat was thick chunks of raw bloody meat. Beans were too salty. When they brought the ticket, we noticed there is a processing charge for using a card vs cash. I wanted to take my husband here on his bday on 12/31 because he absolutely loved the food that my friend catered for her wedding-which happened to be from Abel's! I also fell in love with their horchata that I tried at the wedding. We ordered carne asada street tacos and shrimp ceviche appetizer. Portion sizes are huge; and food is very authentic- not very Tex-Mex (what I'm used to) but they do have a large menu with lots of options including tex mex faves such as enchiladas with arroz & frijoles. We love Abel's so much that we ended up having them cater our wedding :) this restaurant is nestled in a little shopping center - absolutely adorable paintings on the walls with fresh plants hanging from the ceilings - just an overall authentic feel. This place gets super busy at times so be prepared for a wait sometimes! Our service was okay the day we went, mostly because we did end up going this time around on Cinco de Mayo and the place was PACKED. But otherwise on any other day, we typically receive great service. The food, delish. Everyone at our wedding enjoyed our food - we had carne asada and chicken tacos with beans and rice and it was delicious. In our visit, we ordered some great platters with great flavors. We tried out Able's Mexican food on NW 50th in Warr Acres for the third time today. Frankly, I wasn't expecting much after the first two tries. Fajitas, burritos, and enchiladas were ordered. At least our meal wasn't horrible like the last two visits. The beef burrito was just average with the typical rice and refried beans. There was a good comment on the combination Fajitas. The enchiladas again were just average, and the order was wrong. We're giving up on Able's. There are so many better Mexican restaurants out there why settle for less when you can have more. read more

Today was our first visit to this restaurant, and I have to say, it was very disappointing. The food did not taste fresh at all. The service was lacking. The floor was incredibly greasy. It was hard to stand with 2 feet together because the floor was so slippery. It's definitely a lawsuit waiting to happen, especially with so many elderly people there. My chicken tasted like it was expired, but then they just added seasoning to it and cooked it. It was really bad. My rice and beans tasted like they had been made earlier that morning or a previous day, and we went at around 7 PM. Everything was very dry and sad. We all had higher hopes for this place, but really the only thing that tasted decent was the queso, the salsa, and the french fries that my son had with his burger. We won't be visiting again. I dont have a review or tip for Abel's??! How did I miss this? Get the picante salsa. Roasted salsa. Salsa más picante. Whatever you're comfortable saying; just ask for it even if you don't eat spicy stuff because the flavor is phenomenal Abel's was made famous for their al pastor meat which is layers of marinated pork stacked on to a large rotisserie and cook on a vertical broiler like a gyros machine. The surface is thinly sliced off as it cooks and there is a pineapple and onion impaled on the top of which juice descends and cascades over the meat as it cooks. It's a beautiful collaboration If i wrote a review when I first started eating here then the tacos were $1 and the restaurant would only have seated about 15 people. Those were much simpler times, less diluted experiences, and I would eat things after they fell on to the table. The 5 star review would have been effortless to extend The food is still good, but you know how things get as time goes on and people get comfortable. The large menu will provide all of the common options you'll see across any central american restaurant, but they have a small menu that may or may not be on your table when you're seated I learned about horchata here and honestly this restaurant was my first exploration in to eating things I normally would decline The small menu is a taco and torta menu with "street-style" or "food-truck" style items with all of the meats.
