Beautiful aesthetics, mediocre food and drinks. Located in the TL in the Phoenix Hotel. Intimate, dimly lit space which includes two full bars and an outdoor patio area. Tres chic! Would be a perfect date spot for the ambiance alone. Check out the main bar where they have their "BE AMAZING" lighted sign. Service was friendly but extremely slow. I tried the following: - Truffle Dip/ Wild mushroom and black truffle with waffle chips. Very creamy. I enjoyed this dish. - Sizzling Kobe Tri-Tip/ Small portion of kobe that comes on a sizzling rock for you to cook. Good, but not extraordinary. - Pancetta Wrapped Chicken Roulade/ I did not like this dish, the flavors were definitely lacking. Cocktail selection is standard, I did not have anything that was memorable. If I come back it will be for drinks only. read more

The perfect place to be on a Friday night!! Went exploring in the city with a friend and we ended up bar hopping- and what do you know, we ended up in the Tenderloin. Since Chambers has been in my bookmarks for ages, there was no excuse. The inside was amazing! I felt like it was a mix of swanky, chic, and old school. It was very unique! From oversized chairs to vinyl records lining the wall... there was a lot to take in! Didn't get to wander into the back, but it looked a lot more intimate. Very disappointed I didn't get to see the pool area! The cocktails list was interesting. We tried the Bramble, Cusco, Spicy Cucumber, and the Hibiscus. All were well done. THUMBS UP to the spicy cucumber! Who would have ever thought of that mix? So good. Drinks were strong and we walked around the rest of the city a bit buzzed. I enjoyed just lounging around in the chairs and couches, and the waitresses didn't seem to mind if groups sat in reserved areas if the party wasn't here yet. This is the place to be!! read more

I can't stop thinking about their Bloody Marys. They don't taste like any other Bloody Mary I've ever had (and bloodys are my favorite). Maybe it's a little bit more bisque-y? Creamy? Maybe it's the nearly whole peppercorns? They can't be using standard hot sauce... Whatever it is, I'm hooked. Their brunch menu is also pretty much to die for, with something for everyone. Portions are perfect for curing your hangover without making you too full. The omelette I had was perfectly cooked. And I broke vegetarianism (that's been happening a lot lately...), and partook in a biscuit with gravy, which was everything I'd been dreaming of and more. It's random in the Tenderloin, but entirely welcome. Reservations are definitely recommended for the evenings (a friend and I tried to go and were turned back by a 45-minute wait), but so far, you should be ok without one in the mornings. I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, there are just too many things I cannot forgive. The food is over thought, it feels pretentious. There's 2 too many flavors in every dish. It's like fine dining from 20+ years ago -- when over complicating things was still cool. The portions are tiny. I mean seriously, if you have any kind of appetite, you are better off eating somewhere else before you come here. I had an app and a main, and I was still starving. I do love the decor. It's dark, leathery, with shelves stacked with old records. Cool lighting and great entranceway. It's also hugely expensive. Two drinks, two apps, two mains, $150 for 2. I have been patiently waiting for this spot to open for a few months now. I was starting to get worried that the area that used to be called Bambuddha lounge, was going to remain and empty &* desolate as some of the store fronts on Market street. When I finally checked out this spot, I was more than satisfied, I was impressed! The cocktails are reminiscent of a Bourbon & Branch speakeasy style - appeasing to the eye and full of unique spirits. The staff was friendly & attentive, and space itself has been completely remixed. I live right next door to this venue and I am extremely happy that spots like these are finally bringing some class to this neighborhood. Move over HoS, Local Edition, JC, Harlot, Press Club, and on and on, I think there's a new player in town! If only this place was closer to the Financial then it would be over!! There is nothing that I don't like about this place. It speaks a lot of the place when you see a couple of Giants players just chillen and drinking and not being bombarded by people trying to take pictures with them. The music is good the people are good and the atmosphere is just right. The drinks are a little pricey but it's the city, com'on! The decor of the place is really chic, looks like the new owners spent a pretty penny spicing the place up and they did a good job. The only thing that I wish they did was allow the people who visit the bar to swim in the pool, but I guess that's just asking for a lawsuit haha. I highly recommend to come after work, on a Friday night out, to grab a bite, to celebrate your birthday, whatever just come and you won't be disappointed. read more

This review is for the drinks at chambers. I've been here a couple times in the past, but never stayed for very long to get a drink. This past weekend I celebrated here with a few friends and tried a variety of their drinks. I definitely came in with the expectation that this was just another regular bar. I was pleasantly surprised! First of all, I didn't know they had an additional back area with a second bar around the corner (This is great--it's less crowded and has plenty of open seating) The drinks are also quite good. I'm not sure if their menus are seasonal or if they change all the time, but I really liked the mezcal drink and the spicy drink. The rum drink is pretty good, but having stopped at smuggler's cove right before chambers -- well you just can't compare to smugglers. All in all, I'd say this is a great place to hang out and drink with friends! read more

I love this place. I feel so welcome here, even after just a few visits. I love the lamb shank - so tender, and with lots of veggies on and near it for a great complement. I also have tried the burger - it is better every time I order it. I know they offer shaved avocado and/or crispy pork belly on top, but I am content with that slab of heirloom tomato that comes with. I am a big tomato fan - that wins for me. Another meaty bit is the Kobe beef tri-tip that comes out sizzling on a hot stone. I love tri-tip, and the mix of julienne veggies that comes with it. The meals are balanced here - well thought over. And - of course - Chambers is a bar, too! The drinks are high-quality and always fresh - just what you would expect from the Manchesters. They have always been so stylish, but they really nailed this one. The furniture and decor are worth the trip by themselves. The feeling gets better when you are sitting in such splendor, sipping a great drink. The sign encourages you to be amazing. An easy task here. Finally, I have to mention the service. This is where Chambers is going to excel over its lifetime. These people make every guest feel like a VIP. I'm sure other people have been in similar situations, but my friend and I ended up at Chambers for lunch after realizing the line at Brenda's was monstrously long. We opted to sit outside and were surprised by the brightly color retro motel and pool. My friend ordered the eggs royale and I ordered the pork belly. I know some reviews mentioned having it come in your own smoker, but I think that's strictly dinner? Either way, both entrees were delicious. My friend enhaled her eggs royale, which featured sous vide eggs sprinkled with caviar. The pork belly was well seasoned and decadent and I would certainly come back to eat! Warning to those with large appetites - you'll have to order more than one plate. The portions are humble but is solid. read more

This review is for dinner/cocktail hour: I've been meaning to try out Chambers for a while now. I made reservations at 8pm and hopped on the bus down to meet my date. The neighborhood is so sketch, that I told him I'd wait for him inside. I sat at the bar and grabbed one of their (numbered) drinks and once my friend arrived was seated at a nice cozy booth. We decided to share 2 small plates and a 3rd large plate. I scrolled Yelp really quick to see what other reviewers had suggested in terms of food. We chose the smoking salmon which was amazingly awesome and presented quite nicely, the PB&LT aka Pork Belly/ Lettuce/Tomato. Both were really good. The 3rd dish was the fish which was prepared perfectly. For dessert I just had to have the carrot cake. I'm a huge carrot cake person. To my dismay, it came out like a deconstructed carrot cake, almost like a carrot cake brownie. Sigh. Not so great. I suggested coming here to try out their drinks, grab some bites and lounge around. Service was a little mixed. Our waitress was busy so didn't come by as often as we'd like and did disappear at times. Come in a group or with someone else. Don't stumble out of here by yourself. It has literally only been 3-4 hours since I left this place and I'm writing this review, because it deserves THAT much attention ASAP. the food was DELICIOUS beyond words. I don't remember the last time I've been to a restaurant with perfectly cooked, seasoned, tasting foods. My friend and I went to this restaurant after looking at reviews and from the beginning our experience was nothing short of awesome. The atmosphere was fancy BUT not too fancy where everyone is pompous and douche-ey with attitude. Everything was clean and nicely decorated and best of all REAL VINYL RECORDS stacked on the walls all around the place. How awesome is that?!?!?! We didn't have a reservation (didn't know it's only reservation based), but were still seated within 20 minutes! AS far as food goes, I didn't even mind the price because it was THAT GOOD. We ordered the grit fries, the bread and ricotta, the tri tip steak (all three of which are "small bites") and the duck main dish. FANTASTIC is the only way to describe it. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked JUST THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. crispy on the outside but juicy and soft on the inside. Nothing was too overwhelming with flavor, but at the same time not bland either. We also had two glasses of wine each, which was also well paired with the foods we ate. If you want to avoid the snooty attitudes and the overwhelming burden on your wallets, then this is a MUST TRY FINE DINING place. I recently thew my husband a surprise birthday party at Chambers and it was perfectly executed. I started working with the event planner about a month before the event and she provided everything I needed to know and worked with my very busy schedule. The night before the party I dropped the cake, candles and decorations. The night of the party, our service was excellent! The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star is because of the location. It is in the tenderloin... and not in a good area of the tenderloin... I would highly suggest ubering in and out of the area. I made reservations on a Wednesday night and expected the place to be pretty vacant, however, to my surprise, the place was actually quite packed. I went with a party of six and we were seated immediately. Our table had candles and we were placed right next to a sea of records. The interior and ambiance were awesome, and they had really good folk music softly playing in the background. The food was actually really good - we literally ordered at least one of EVERYTHING on the menu, but the truffle ricotta really stood out for me. Normally places just add synthetic truffle oil, but we had a generous amount of truffle shavings on the top and the flavors melded very well with our drinks. Speaking of drinks, their drink menu was pretty darn sweet. I recommend the spicy cucumber drink and the whiskey drink - the former was refreshing while the latter had a great whiskey burn. :) Overall, 5-stars as the food was great, prices were reasonable, ambiance was nice and service was very attentive/friendly. read more

Chambers makes you feel good. Inside and out. The vibe is on point. along with the food and drinks. The staff makes you feel like you are a rockstar, and well, you are! I had been looking for a wedding venue that wasn't your typical banquet hall or vineyard. TOTAL SCORE. I walked in and literally cried. Chambers is everything that an "alternative" bride could want. The ambience screams sexy fun! I was married here 1.5 years ago and not to brag, but it was the best wedding ever. You wish you were there. In fact, people are asking if we can get married again. Chambers is connected to the infamous Phoenix Hotel, which makes partying there really convenient. Isabel and Chrissie were wonderful coordinators. So random. Tenderloin? You have to expect and, er, eclectic crowd and just to put it bluntly, some people who really shouldn't be in swimwear,....ever. If the sight of a hood rat turned whale squeezed into a ziploc bag doesn't bother you, then you will adore Chambers. Wonderful pool and lounge type feel, cut off from the dangerous neighborhood surrounding it. It literally feels like an urban oasis. A group of friends and I spent our Sunday poolside in a cabana, which was perfect as it was a hot, hot day in the city. The bartender was super sweet and made me a wonderful cocktail based off of simply my interests. We did come here a bit earlier than usual but maybe it was an off day? I can see the venue being an edgy spot to hang out as other reviews mentioned but the back bar itself looked pretty small unless they move out tables from the dining area when a party occurs here! We asked the front desk about the attached restaurant and he declared that it served "Comfort food", just what comfort food was to a guy names Miller, and we couldn't wait to find out. Chamber's was an opportune comfort. Chambers struck us as tres chic with the walls lined with thousands of vinyl records and a sound track to match. Our starter dish was a truffle dip with wild mushrooms and severed with Ruffles. The truffles dominated the jelly jar it was served in and we wondered again about Millers comfort. Next course was chicken liver pate topped with buttered leeks, that where spicy and savory with a raw quail egg. Spread on a crostini this was cherubic. The pancetta roasted figs with a ricotta salata and a balsamic reduction it all floated in as if it was capturing my soul, made me groan with pleasure. These dishes were only $7.00 each and overflowing with smack. The main course of Kobe tri tip steak served on a broiling hot stone that continued to cook the meat if you liked, sizzled our slab. It came with pickled vegetables and a mushroom brand reduction with a pungent piquancy. I also had the lightly breaded and fried green beans (cause if there are Haricot verts in the house, I order them) adorned with cherry tomatoes, dried olives, gremotlata, and capers. They did the bean justice. Executive Chef Trevor Ogden is serving some impressive comfort food that will bring me back every time this hipster in the city. We took our wine (a 2007 Foxen Pinot from Julia's Vienyard) and stuck our feet in the pool, amazed and enthralled with the 69's floating below us. read more

There isn't a regular booth or table that sits this many people. So they sat us at a high dining table. We also were accommodated with an extra sofa-like seating area for the individuals who arrived late. Service was great! Waitresses did a great job of checking in frequently and asking if we needed refills. Even the store's owner came by to say hello to our group. I ordered the sizzling Kobe Tri Tip... it was AMAZING. The meat comes out on a hot stone and cooks right in front of you. As a side dish, I ordered the Polenta... which was also amazing! Good food, great ambience, and a cool bar in the back! First off, this place is classy. Yet somehow, it's also more "real" and authentic than a dive bar. 10,000 actual records serve as decorations throughout the joint, making me feel like I'm hanging out in my (future) expensive loft with my (present) music collection. And speaking of music, this place nails it. On the two separate occasions I've been there, the DJ was spinning tunes that were at the very least enjoyably non-intrusive, and at the most, conversational centerpieces among my group. I had to ask the DJ about his collection, and was amazed to hear he was spinning the vinyl right off the walls. Decor you can actually hear. Legit. The food is tasty as well, though the drinks are the showstoppers. I'm not usually one to invest in high-end cocktails, though these are well thought out pieces of art. The prices are standard for higher-end fare, and don't expect them to pricematch with their TL neighbors, but everyone left feeling like they got more than their money's worth. The server, Natalie, was very rude. When we asked her to split the bill, she said "Are you serious??" And gave us a really rude tone. We wanted to split the bill for us to pay faster. She would often answer in a rude manner, making us feel like we're bothering her all the time. The food was okay. Nothing really special. They have a lot of hidden charges too. So be careful because you might be ordering a meal that has a $25 additional charge. The ambiance was okay tho. Very chill and cozy. Just not satisfied with service and food. read more

Love it for Brunch! Okay, last week I went here for brunch, and was transported to like, rock and roll Miami! We sat outside, where the patio is shared with the Pheonix Hotel, and they have an outdoor pool! in downtown San Francisco!! There was an awesome group singing songs in French with an accordion and guitar shredder, not your grandma's cafe music! The mimosas were good, but the bloody Mary's were even better! A stick of Jicama is what does the trick for me! Very exotic menu: I don't even know how to describe it, its, EVERYTHING!! I had the soft scrambled eggs with st. georges cheese, a conservative choice amongst all the wild items, i know, but YUM. my more adventurous friend got the Japanese omelette, with sweet potato, also total YUM. we split an order of the french toast, which is really NO JOKE! pear compote and bourbon sauce, I was in heaven! Dinner At chambers tonight for a friends birthday. Arrived at 7pm , ordered drinks and dinner Took like 1 hour to get out appetizer - they also forgot some of the drinks .... 30 minutes later comes dinner.... The another 30 minutes for dessert and the of course the bill. The service was incredibly slow. Service was mediocre. The servers didnt come in to check in and ask how the food was and the food for some of the party was just "meh". The pricing is a bit over priced for the actually quality and taste of the food. I ordered the 35 steak that came with the steak alone so I had to order sides. For the price I rather would have gone to a steak house to get the better quality and service. All three people that got duck said it tasted like a high end costco hot dog....meow??? Bread.... The server didnt bread with 12 people at the table. Bread was requested... But they bring only a plate enough for half the table placing the bread at the end of one table... Wtf? Really???? So we asked again and they brought another plate of bread to the other side of the table. For a table with 12 people the bread got devoured immediately. Overall, would I come here again? No thanks. Food sucked and so did service. Long wait. Considering our bill was 640$$ I expect more from a place like chambers. * the place inside is nice though... Came here because I once again. overslept and missed getting to Brenda's Soul Food breakfast without having to wait two hours. BUT!! I ended up coming here to this yummy place around the corner. Yay for food adventures! The building itself looks a little sketchy and dark but we went inside and it has pretty cute decor and best of all. no wait! The menu and ambiance reminded me of the Table in willow glen. The menu looks like it changes pretty often as well based on whats in season, but thats just my guess. I ordered the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and mimosaaaaaaaaa of course. They also have grapefruit mimosa, strawberry and a bunch of other flavors but I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. classic mimosa is good enough for me. Okay again. I have this bad habit of freaking out with food comes out and I'm like wtf. I am definitely not going to be full. For the price I expect to be full. (It was about 13-14 for my eggs benedict) BUT those two little things filled me up real quick. I like heavy foods and I always forget that I don't need as much to be full. Will definitely be back! I'm giving them 4 1/2 stars. What an awesome hidden gem, and of all places in the tenderloin. We were walking aimlessly for a good brunch spot and we fell upon this cute hotel. You would never believe what it looks like on the inside, from the outside. Complete rock n roll 60s or 70s retro. It was so cool with walls full of old record albums. I must say their menu was unique and I want to add that it was eccentric, in a good way. The way they plated the food, to the different colors and it tasted great! The only downfall was, my food was pretty cold. I had eaten half way before my friend complained about it, but I was too embarrassed to send it back. They apologized and offered to bring a fresh one ( which I politely declined), so instead, they offered any dessert, on the house AND did not charge for the delicious coffee we ordered. If your a coffee drinker like me, BONUS points for the coffee, it was thick, dark and rich. (Tip: if you drink Pete's, try their coffee). A+ experience, food and coffee was delish, ambiance was super cool, minus 1/2 star for my food being cold, but they definitely made up for it. We really enjoyed our brunch, I'm spreading the word. Oh and did I mention this place turns into a cool bar and lounge at night, oh and did I mention there is a parking lot! Yup, you heard me right! Last week, ya boy went out here to catch a couple bday celebration drinks for fellow yelper, Christine S. I walked up around 10:30, and the bouncer wouldn't let us in because they were "up to capacity." But every time, he opened the door and I got a tiny peak inside, the place looked less than crowded to me. WHATEVER. And whenever people walked out, you'd think he'd let some in. Not the case. It was quite confusing. But I don't waste my time getting worked up over bouncers. Not worth it. I got in anyway (in your face!) through the back entrance when my friends inside just fished us in through the back entrance. I was totally feeling the décor. Very 60's mod as you can read and tell from pictures. Coming in, I didn't know if I was walking into a restaurant, bar or a lounge. I guess they try to have best of all worlds and combine all genres. The party I was with was there for dinner and I got to sample their leftovers (though I didn't even know everyone there), and I can say the cold fries left on the plate were still good. The Be-Amazing bar was full of 30-somethings but it was surprisingly easy to get a bar tender's attention and drink. Thumbs up! I don't know if I'd come back for a 10pm drink session, but I am intrigued to have a sensible dinner at a reasonable time. Oh and also, yes there is an outdoor pool patio. We were refugees from Black Cat they had us waiting on the street after promising to let us in because we came early. Chilly from standing in the brisk wind for too long we said forget it and walked to Chambers located in the Phoenix Motel. There the staff is welcoming and good and hardworking and friendly. We got there for happy hour and ordered $5 Malbec at the bar then got a good booth overlooking the pool and enjoyed our cheeseburgers more wine but you can't get the happy hour wine price in the booth deduct one star. The food was real good and I'll be coming back to try different items. Chambers is warm and dim easy to relax good for work mates dates and since it's a rock star motel you never know what hipster star is walking around. read more

Stopped in for a drink after work on their second night of operations. Not sure it's exactly the happy hour joint (was mostly empty but the hostess still watched us select our seat with hawk eyes), but it definitely has potential to be a great late night lounge venue. Decor takes the cake for sure, and outshines both the food and the drinks. Urban, clean, sexy and yet still somewhat rustic, shabby and inviting. Loved all the wood paneling, oversized seating, banquets and mood lighting. The front is set up for dining and some drinking, whereas the back is all drinking and lounging. Drinks were delish (names escape me) and strong, though we were upset they didn't have any happy hour specials (perhaps that has changed now). Interesting outdoor patio that is shared with the hotel...wonder if it will get much use (let's be honest, SF isn't exactly known for our balmy summer nights)...but could be nice for daytime drinking. Would definitely go back late night to check out the scene. Felt very 'adult' without being stuffy. Oh, I would like to suggest some additional throw pillows for the back room...all the seats are very deep, making it somewhat awkward/uncomfortable. read more

Wow I had no idea that Bambooda lounge was gone. Granted I had no idea when it changed from Backflip. So the place is totally remodeled and its a true remodel. Not just a different color paint and some different chairs. The space is completely different. The decor is very cool, you walk in and the walls are filled with shelves of vinyl covers almost like a library. They have two bars both fully stocked. I judge a bar by the bourbon's they carry and they had decent selection beyond just Makers Mark. The vibe is much different than the old club days. Much loungier but very very nice. Also the food was on point. We ordered a couple burgers that were delicious but the item that stuck out the most were homemade crinkle cut potato chips and a cream truffle dip. Nice portion of chips and dip but the burgers are on the slightly smaller side but not overly so. For the quality and taste its awesome but probably need to state that for those thinking they'll get the burger cuz they want a large portion meal. It's not that kind of place. I went with a couple friends to catch but will definitely be taking the girlfriend here on a date night or maybe to start the night on a night out. read more

This place is WAY ahead of itself. We specifically booked a reservation here for a bday brunch due to the fact they had bottomless mimosas on weekends. The menu mentions that you need to purchase food in order to purchase bottomless mimosas. No big deal. When we finally received a chance to order drinks we were informed we all must order them, because we weren't trusted to not share them! We had a pregnant woman, 2 DD's, and another that quite franky just simply wasn't drinking. We were told the deal is so good that it wouldn't be much of a big deal to just add it to the bill for EVERYONE! Seriously?! We are all working professionals, lacking criminal records. It was so tasteless. I voted to leave. I won't be going back. The service was also SLOW. The food wasn't bad, but just overpriced. GET OVER YOURSELF! I looked up restaurants around the Orpheum theater, and Chambers had great reviews. We needed to find a place within walking distance b/c we had a show at 8pm. The restaurant is beautiful inside with the eclectic decorations and a sophisticates/ relaxed atmosphere. The food we had was tapas style, which was perfect for our occasion. The served as in the amount of time we had, and life with a comfortable amount of time to walk back. Totally recommend! read more

Great ambiance terrible food and service. The burrata came melted as a big glob on the plate with a mushroom sauce served with dry old focaccia. It looked like vomit. The octopus a la plancha and cauliflower were doused in sauce and aoili it was gross. The mussels were tough and not fresh. It took 30 min to get a soda water, and once the check was paid they took my dates water glass away. I never leave negative reviews but they need a new chef and the service was awful for those price point. read more

Love this place. No cover charge, lots of couches to sit, friendly bartenders, great music , nice mix of crowd. Our bartender, Chez, was very nice to us and gave us great service. Parking was not even that difficult but area was a little sketchy. Would definitely come back here again. read more

I celebrated my birthday here a few weeks ago and the manager, Isabel, as well as the rest of the staff were very accommodating and helpful with setting up this event for our group. My party had a wonderful time! I had been here on one previous occasion during the summer when it was still not as well known yet. One thing I love about this place is how reasonable everything costs despite how nice the venue is. I suppose this is due to the location of the bar in the tenderloin... but that's the charm of the spot. It's definitely a hidden gem. Having an outdoor area is rare in SF and for a warm October night, hanging by the pool was perfect. The drinks are all very reasonably priced and well made. They also have a pretty well stocked scotch selection! The food is tasty - I think I ordered 5 rounds of bar snacks and it came out to be a LOT less than I thought it would be. I called Chambers the week of my event and told them I anticipated about 15-20 people. They immediately reserved a large section of the couches at the bar area for our group even though there was a wedding after party showing up the same night with 100 guests. The management was great and constantly replenished our table with snacks. A lot more people came than I had anticipated and they were completely accommodating and allowed my guests to skip the line. The entire night, I rarely had to worry about whether my guests were having a good time because I knew they were well taken care of. I had such a great birthday. Thank you, Chambers! read more

I'd passed by Chambers a handful of times and caught wind of the music bumping above the low buzz of the dinner crowd and had been ACHING to step inside for a while now. Last night, I finally got my chance. I was invited to grab some birthday drinks and dinner by one of my good friends Brian B. and in my excitement ended up at the restaurant a good fifteen minutes ahead of everybody else which gave me the opportunity to scope the place out. Much of the light from the dimly lit interior comes from the ample shelving of the restaurant which holds, upon closer inspection, LOADS of classic records. Add to that, the eclectic mix of sofas and seat styles and the place definitely oozes the cool of James Bond with the tongue in cheek of Austin Powers. Although the food menu itself may be a little brief for some diners, the cocktail and wine offerings are imaginative and solid. While Chambers definitely has the Swag to rock the vintage vinyl and mismatched sofas, for me the final word is always about the food and for that I have to give it three stars. The polenta was over seasoned and the Tombo Tuna from the Small Bites selection fell flat with it's pairing of smoked tuna and saffron cracker. The Quail which I had for my entree consisted of two pitifully small pieces of fowl served on top of an overwhelming portion of butternut squash and lentils. Overall, an enjoyable experience but if I were to come back it would be for the cocktails not the food. read more

Surprise, surprise! That's what you'll find at Chambers. Located in the belly of the beast called Tenderloin. This unassuming lounge is not much to look at from the outside. But on the inside another story is unfolded. The amber lighting and the library decor is Mad Men'esque and just wonderfully inviting. There are two full bars on either ends of the restaurant. The two spaces are stylishly defined by their seating options. The front side has plenty of booths and a long, slender dining table with a real fireplace exclamation point. On the back end is an open space with large chaise lounge seating, great for groups. There's a third outdoor area that's adjoined to the Phoenix hotel pool with patio seating (~9 four-tops) and heat lamps. Chambers offered two menus on that serendipitous Thursday evening: regular and three-course ($40 + $25 optional wine pairing). We opted to order on our own. Everything on the menu sounded amazing and sure enough there were no disappointments once the food and drinks arrived. Ordered: - Chicken liver pate - Grits fries - Tatar tots - Pork belly - Veggie entree to share - Hanger steak - Chambers burger w/ avocado and pork belly - Rye drink (like an old fashion but slightly sweeter) - Tequila drink - Classic drink (too sour for my taste) - Coffee cake - Apple *something* Everything was fantastic! From the drinks to the apps to the entrees! My only advice would be to skip the pork belly add-on for the burger; it's not the same as the appetizer and not worth the +$3. But definitely get the appetizer pork belly! As the night fell it seemed Chambers just got busier and busier. When we left around 9:30pm they were just setting up a DJ in the back. Really seemed like this little gem is one of San Francisco's best kept secrets! ...maybe I shouldn't even be writing this review.... read more

The restaurant is located in THE shadiest part of SF- deep in the 'loin. What you want to do if you're walking there is really to just walk briskly, hold your breath (coz the sidewalks reek of urine and other nastiness), locate the main entrance and propel yourself in ASAP. If you're taking a cab, have them drop you off right in front of the non-descript door and barrel your way in. Don't linger outside. It really is Shades McGades (and i live a mile away on Nob Hill). I've been here for brunch and for Happy Hour Happy Hour: awesome food. My fave there was the kobe beef over small charcoal grill. the meat was tender, buttery and perfect; i had 1.5 servings All to myself. The burger that everyone raves about was good but not memorable. Brunch: good but not remarkable. It is, however, The place for 20 something hipsters and marina chicks to hang out on Sunday mornings; you've been warned.
