Firstly, the service is amazing. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and super clean. The staff are incredibly nice and the owner offered to get my dog water as we sat outside. My first time trying Arepa and I'm a fan now. The bread is very unique, kind of reminds me of an english muffin but made out of corn. I had the Pabellon Arepa and even though I don't like sweet in my food I think the plantains went very well with the rest of the ingredients in the sandwich. Overall, it was very enjoyable. Also came with two dips which is always a plus. I do think the price is a little too hefty for what it is though. We drove quite a distance to see what an authentic Venezuelan arupa was all about. While it was a delightful experience overall, I would not be tempted to drive that far in the future on a whim. We ordered two Arupas, one cheese and one fried pork. The corn flour dough is salty and moist, almost the consistency of mashed potato, but is crispy on the outside. While good, the garlicky fried pork filling did not appeal to me so much. The cheese-filled one had a huge serving of chilled shredded and jack cheese inside. It was plain and the cheese not melted, but I really thought this one was the more delicious of the two. Shredded beef platter. Loved the tomato-ey sauce it was stewed in. Very rich tasting, and the meat was very tender. I would kill for the fried Plantains. These came with the platter and were ripened to a sweetness that is uncomparable.. Loved them. Black beans, well seasoned also came on the plate. Loved them, too! It was a real treat eating them mixed with the plain white rice and the overflow of gravy from the meat. A great choice. I am completely incapable of passing by an empanada opportunity. So, we ordered just 1 beef empanada which the owner made on the spot because she had run out. Big and showy. We had hoped for the spicier ground beef version, but instead, it was filled with the same tender, beautifully seasoned beef as the beef platter, but without the tomato sauce. The dough was fried, but had a different consistency than Cuban and Mexican empanadas, not tender or flaky as I had hoped. I would liken the texture closer to the heavier texture of a chinese sticky, rice flour even though it is probably made from corn flour. I was not in love with this dough, even though the shredded beef inside was tasty and generous. This is a very cute place with a very big heart. I've been to Venezuelan Chamo in Pasadena twice now, but didn't get to do the review from my first visit. I arrived here for lunch today. They weren't super busy. Lucky me to be the first in line. What a beautiful restaurant with all the bright colorful decor! Cool atmosphere plus good lighting with several tables/chairs plus limited bar stool seating. There appears to be a hammock, too. Not sure if it can be used or it's just decor. One all gender restroom is discreetly in the back of the restaurant. Really great place!! The gentleman from the kitchen came out to greet me and asked what I would like. The lady behind the counter took over to take the remaining of my order. They both recommended the Reyna Arepa that is filled with shredded chicken, avocado, mayonnaise, and lime juice. An arepa is a griddlecake made of ground maize dough. It looks like a pocket to me. Anyway, that's what I got. OMG, it was so delicious! Tons of shredded chicken at every bite. Very well balanced between chicken, avocado, and mayo. Arepa was crispy and delightfully. SO GOOD! Highly recommend it. I also got the passion fruit juice that was delightfully refreshing... not too sweet... just perfect! Super nice and friendly staff. Amazing service. Popped into this empty little place. Let me says this place needs to be packed because the food was really really good. I thought I've had good arepas in the past, but this place was superior. The arepas are large, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft with a slight chew in the middle, not mention it tastes great 10/10. The arepas that were filled were packed with filling. Plantains were amazing soft, sweet, with the perfect caramelization. Beans were terrific as well. Absolutely loved the yuka fries here too! The cachapa was ok, but nothing I'd order again. I came here a few times to try out Venezuelan food. A short 45 minute drive from home led me to this fine establishment. The first time I came here, I had an llanera arepa. Think of it like a beef sandwich, with shredded cheese and veggies. To drink, I had the papelon con limon, which had a refreshing citrusy taste to it. The arepa was hearty and delicious, and the papelon was a refresing complement to my arepa. The second time I came here, I had the panellon, which was a plate with shredded beef, white rice, beans topped with cheese, and platains. The plate was delicious and filling. I rounded this meal out with a papelon as well, which was satisfying. This place is spacious and clean. The workers here are friendly and efficient in their service. They took care of me well. The food is authentic and has that homemade vibe. The arepas are stacked and full of flavor (highly recommend the pabellón). The inside is a hole in the wall, homey feel. I took a couple of co- workers to Chamo to try it out for lunch and I'm glad we did! Chamo is small restaurant on Colorado adjacent to Lake nestled in with a number of different neighboring restaurants. 3/4 of us ordered different types of Arepas, while the other ordered a breakfast plate. The arepas were huge and definitely worth it. I didn't know what to order so I had our waitress create my own arepa. I'm so glad I did because it came out piled high with so many different ingredients that I ended up taking half of it home. The only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 on this review is because since my arepa had so many ingredients, it was tough to eat as a sandwich and get every flavor in every bite. I ended up deconstructing the sandwich later. All the flavors were there though so I'll definitely be back to try a different arepa or different dish and will update my review then! read more

My husband ordered the spicy chorizo arepa, and I swear the man's eyes rolled back like he just saw the face of Zeus. Every bite came with a quiet "mmm" that made the table behind us jealous. I had the shredded beef plate, and let me tell you, if this beef had asked me to elope, I might've considered it. Perfectly seasoned, tender, and clearly slow-cooked by someone's abuela who puts love (and maybe witchcraft?) into everything. But the real stars? The tequenos de queso (fried cheese) OH. MY. WORD. Wow the arepas here are amazing and one is big enough to satisfy one person. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. Music was blazing the interior was beautiful felt like a tropical getaway. I've had Chamo on my Yelp 'To Check Out' list for a while. Really glad that I did. Loved the bright decor. The hammock is a nice touch. We ordered vegetarian arepas and tostones. The tostones came out with these cute little bottles of sauce. They were both tiny but mighty with flavor. I've had larger arepas elsewhere. Based on the reviews, I was really looking forward to trying this place. If you're looking for parking, they have a small parking lot behind the restaurant off of S. Mentor Ave. Upon arrival, the restaurant's not huge but had plenty of seats for small parties of 2 or 4. You step up to the counter and order with the server. Upon arrival, there was no one at the counter. After a few minutes, a girl stepped out but just stood there. No greeting, no hello, nothing....I was tempted to just leave. But after a few awkward minutes, I finally asked what she recommended...which then prompted her to answer and she seemed a little more welcoming after that...but it shouldn't take the customer to start that. In any case, onto the rest of the visit and the food. We had to try an empanada so we ordered the Carne Molida. The crust was really nice and crispy (not hard) and the ground beef was really good. I'd definitely order this again and try another empanada. We also ordered the Cochino Frito. This was really good. The pork was pretty flavorful and not dry. However, the same cannot be said for the Llanera which was dry and didn't have much flavor at all. We also tried the Yuca Frita which was okay but if you're looking for flavor and seasoning, you won't find that here which is why you'l lneed to drown it in the garlic sauce that they provide. For drinks, we got the Papelon con Limon and Parchita Passion Fruit. Both were good but very sweet. I'd recommend that you get a side cup of ice water to dilute it. read more

I love Venezuela and its food. When I saw there is a Venezuelan restaurant close I had to try it out. It is such a cute little place and it's in a great location. The only issue is parking but there is paid parking pretty close. I wanted to order one of everything but knew that wasn't going to happen so I settled on two cheese empanadas. They were great and reminded me of being back in Venezuela. So it's a sit down place but you order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. The girl working was very kind. There were only a few other people in there, likely because they just opened for the day but I could tell they were all enjoying their food. I will be back for sure. My fiance and I stopped here when we had to to make a trip to Pasadena. It was my first time getting Venezuelan food and I loved it. We got two arepas. The pabellon with chicken and the llanera. The lady at the front was super helpful and so friendly. Since I'm currently gluten free, she helped me understand the gluten free options. She also put the fried plantains on the side so my fiance could have them. She put the avocado on the side for my fiance's llanera and as you can see from the pictures, they give you plenty. The arepas are loaded and quite huge. It was loaded with so much cheese and tons of meat and beans. The flavors were awesome and she offered us both the garlic sauce and the spicy garlic sauce on the side. They were both really good. The young lady taking our order was incredibly helpful with walking us through our options and letting us try some of their traditional beverages. BEWARE WHEN ORDERING FROM A RESTAURANT MENU !Grub hub is connected to them. I tried to order food from Chamo Venezuelan restaurant by calling, but it kept saying VM full or not set up, not sure. I kept calling repeatedly so decided to go in line and order. I ordered for pickup and checked cash. No response from the restaurant, I called again and now it is almost 7:00pm so I cancelled it and ordered elsewhere and left. When I return from dinner, Grubhub said the order is ready for pickup. I never used Grubhub so I looked on the menu on the website and I'm small letter it states powered by Grubhub. The next day my bank is charging me for the 2 meals. I thought how did they get my card when I checked cash. I called Grubhub just now and was told they could not do anything because it is past 4 days. I told them the bank told me I could not do anything until it was processed so I had to wait. Unfortunately I had their food once and liked the decor in the restaurant and the owner was nice so this was going to be my favorite restaurant so I would have been eating there and ordering all the time and would have been a great customer. I've never had Venezuelan food in my life, and I saw a brief video about arepas and Venezuelan cuisine. I saw this cuisine being served in a restaurant in Pasadena, so I had to give it a try. Chamo Venezuelan Cuisine is a small restaurant, located in East Pasadena, with a few tables that are nicely spaced apart. We order at the counter and then the food comes to us. The person at the counter was super nice and recommended that we try the pabellon arepa, which we ordered with beef. We also wanted to share an appetizer and thus we shared tequenos, which are deep fried dough with cheese - kind of like mozarella sticks, but with dough on the outside so it's less dry. I actually loved the tequenos, which was served to us with two different sauces. I loved the spicy sauce. For the arepa, we were told to eat it with our hands. The Venezuelan sandwich was just too large for me to eat with my hands, so I ended up using a fork to help scrape out some of the inside. The combination of beef, cheese, black beans, and the corn dough was absolutely amazing. It also went well with the spicy sauce.
