We ordered pupusas and some side dishes. Everything tasted good. When cutting into the pupusas, the cheese would just slip out. Most pupusas I've tried dont do this. They are tightly packed with cheese. Still good though. Great service and they have a tablet where you can pick songs and sing karaoke for the restaurant. Started out the day late and was dead set on a steamy bowl of menudo. Everything was closed being New Year's day. So I did plan B. I caught this little dive restaurant out of the corner of my eye driving back home and decided to give it a try. The place serves both Mexican and Salvadoran food. Guess what? They had menudo but the pupusas won me over . I ate two pupusas immediately. Both were made with pork meat and cheese and they were damn good: thick, hot, chewy and jammed with meat and melted cheese and two types of sauces. I'm sitting here now sucking on my teeth after eating both them...lips and tongue still covered in a little sauce. A nice hot, spicy after taste and a happy stomach! First off it was slow and the tables were dirty . We literally cleaned the table off with a napkin. Seating outside is dusty . The waitress seemed bothered that we asked if she can clean our table before she took our order . Drinks took a good 15 minutes to get to the table. The coffee is store bought cause it tasted awful , so was the horchata . And it had a weird after taste . The food took a good half hour to be ready. And the flavor was so mediocre. The server came to our table with our stack Ontop of each other , that itself is nasty . Cause I don't know where those plates have been sitting in much less if the counter was wiped before the plate was PLACED ONTOP of my food. Needless to say she never came back with a refill on coffee . Didn't ask if we needed anything else . And you can tell the staff was just talking about us. Which in itself was rude. My mother ordered 6 pupusas (2 squash, 2 spinach, 1 revuelta, and 1 bean & cheese) for delivery, along with sides of beans and rice. I usually try to get pupusas during visits in the LA area, since they aren't quite the same in the Bay. This place did not disappoint. The pupusas, accoutrements, and sides were all delicious. The shop also included two types of salsas: one mild and one that was pretty spicy. My mother who eats serranos and jalapeños raw enjoyed the spicy one, whereas, I enjoyed a few drops along with the mild. The curtido was also very good and seemed recently made. We've been to other places along Lake and in Monrovia, and this one stands up to the competition. My mother said this is her favorite and will plan to return. read more

This hole-in-the-wall Salvadoran and Mexican food jewel is now one of my favorites in the area. Truly a surprise! Amazing authentic flavors, generous portions and cheap prices - the perfect combo. Most importantly, the food was amazing and I've been eating Salvadoran and Mexican food for decades. Pupusas - these are slightly larger than your average pupusa, and much less oily. You get to truly taste the masa and other ingredients. It's paired with the perfect curtido (aka Salvadoran kimchi slaw) that is tangy, crunchy with just a tiny kick. We had the chicharrón (without cheese) and a calabaza con queso (zucchini with cheese) - both so yummy. Burrito mojado de al pastor - this humongous burrito was packed with super flavorful, juicy, large chunk al pastor with some green peppers, onions and frijoles, and seriously drenched in a delicious chunky red sauce. It's not your typical burrito where beans and rice hide bits of meat - this thing was filled to the brim with meat and absolutely delicious. Taquitos dorados de carne asada combo - this was a plate of 3 surprisingly tasty, homemade taquitos filled with chunky tender carne asada (not your supermarket frozen food box junk). It was garnished with a salad of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and avocados with excellent frijoles and Spanish rice (when simple rice and beans impress you, you know the cooks take pride in their food). Tamal de pollo - OMG. This was real Salvadoran style tamale action that reminded me of my many trips to El Salvador. If you like super fine masa that almost has a flan like consistency and has soaked in all the juices of the chicken and veggies inside, you will love this like I did. They are medium sized and super moist, falling apart with the slightest touch of the fork. I am now a regular just for these amazing mouthfuls-of-heaven. It definitely helps if you speak Spanish but the nice ladies there do speak English to help you with your order. Everything is made to order so be patient (just like you do in Latin America) and you'll be rewarded with a great meal. read more

I bought two queso pupusas with the intention of saving one for work the next day... That pupusa never had a chance. After eating the first one, I fell in love. It was so cheesy, delicious and warm! Of course you can add the toppings such as salsa or pickled cabbage, but these pupusas are even delicious on their own! Speaking of which, I would actually eat the pickled cabbage on its own too! There is street parking in the front, and 90% sure there was a lot in the back too. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was parking. Granted, there will be a wait since they make their food FRESH. Terrible experience! We visited this restaurant before and the food was good, the young server girl gave us the a terrible attitude and we thought she had a bad day and decided to go back again. We arrived at the restaurant around 8:45am, our big mistake was to ask if they were open, the same girl from last time, rolled her eyes and open her hands saying "don't you see" and ok, I get it, it's hard to find good employees nowadays and you have to appreciate the ones that show up, but people like this girl can ruin your business. read more

Cheese- very cheesy goodness Chicharon and Cheese - you can taste the meat it's not processed too much - I like it chunky! Revueltas- hubby said the beans is good with the chicharon and cheese. This place has a very hole-in-the-wall feel which I love. You walk in, you're greeted in Spanish, you and the owner try to get by the language wall together and laugh about it. I ordered 1 chicken and cheese pupusa which was excellent 5 out of 5 stars and 2 carne asada tacos which were a 3 out of 5. The reason being is the meat had the texture of ground beef. First time here for lunch. Food is very good service is ok. I would come back here for their yummy food.

The funny part about this is that we were originally meant to go to the restaurant next door to this place called La Caravana. By the time we realized we walked into the wrong place the menu had come and drinks were ordered. I ordered two chorizo tacos and a chicharron pupusa, with cheese. The food came in a relative short while along with the margaritas. I forgot to ask for it on the rocks, so it came blended. No big deal. It was frosted with sea salt and tasted really good. I don't believe that they serve hard liquor on the premises but the margaritas may be pre-made, so they do contain alcohol, if that makes sense. I demolished the chorizo tacos and pupusa and they were amazing. The pupusa was really filling and inexpensive. It was $2.75 for the whole thing. The chorizo tacos were $1.65 each and the margarita was $6. With tip and tax, my bill was about $20 in total. It looks like the mistake that we initially made proved to be a happy one.
