However, in recent visits, I noticed that diagnostic fees were being charged in addition to approved repairs. On top of that, I have experienced verbal quotes that were not honored. For my most recent--and final--repair, I was billed for an additional 0.5 hours beyond the verbal quote I was given over the phone. This additional charge was never authorized and was simply added to my bill. During a recent visit, I asked for a written estimate for maintenance work and was instead given a verbal number. When I insisted on a written estimate, they outright refused. While the quality of their repair work itself has generally been good, their lack of transparency, refusal to provide written estimates, and disregard for honoring their own quotes demonstrate a business practice I find unacceptable. Dan's Auto Clinic may try to present itself as an honest small-town business, but in my experience, their actions show that chasing extra charges matters more to them than maintaining integrity or building long-term customer relationships.

I gave them instructions on how to reproduce it, just drive the car on the highway -My car needed a regular service -I wanted to reset a warning light on the dash. They wasted my time and I left with more problems. They told me they would get to it that day on site. Then called me and told me they would not be able to get to it till the next. They don't even inspect it till the afternoon of the next day, and want to keep the car for another day. The next day they told me they were not able to reproduce the sound. I go in and immediately reproduce the sound with a tech in the car on the highway. They say they will look at it. I leave. I come back and they tell me they "aren't a shop specialized in fixing that problem" go to a different shop. Fine, I appreciate the honesty. They give me my car back. I turn on the car. Sound still there, Car regular service timer not reset - Such a simple thing, if they're cutting corners here what else are they cutting corners on? Warning light not reset. I go back in , ask them to reset both warnings. They come back, warning light needs a physical part and they need another part that they want to charge me for ~20 dollars, and for me to wait another few hours. They did reset the service timer. At this point they've wasted enough of my time. I leave, paying few hundred dollars for the service and them having wasted 3 days of my time. I go to a different shop. The fix is so simple they fix it for free in 20 minutes. Also they spam you with advertising texts despite never asking. In summary: They didn't fix any of my original problems, needed me to micromanage them to follow basic instructions to diagnose, are slow and incompetent.

Can't say enough good things about these guys; 5 stars only because we can't give more than 5…read more Here's my take on the auto repair business; there's 3 key things, two of which are very hard for the layperson to access. 1-Diagnosing the problem. 2-Fixing the problem. 3-Being honest about what needs done. 1-Jeff has many years experience and is excellent at diagnosing the problem. Obviously some things are easier than others; e.g., the brakes grind, you need brake pads; other noises or symptoms can be much harder to figure out. He's a master at figuring it out and won't give up till he has. 2-Fixing it. This is what every professional shop can do. 3-Honesty. This is the most important one - yet the hardest one for the layperson to assess. e.g., Did your brake job really need rotors too or would just pads have been enough. Did you really need that new radiator or was it just a hose that was leaking? Did you really need all the tie rods and ball joints and suspension links replaced or would've ball joints been enough? ...etc, etc. Sooner or later there will be times where a less-than-honest shop can oversell a repair for extra labor and parts dollars. And the layperson will never know. This is where the trust comes in. I am absolutely convinced Jeff is as honest and straight a shooter as there is in the car business. He'll tell you what your car needs and not oversell repairs you don't need.
