Now I loved Champion chicken in the past, but not so much anymore. I ordered from them today at 4:40 pm, it took them 3.5 hours to get my order. The chicken was like warm, the fries were cold and soggy. Didn't get my coleslaw or rolls with my "tailgate special". My wife's chicken on her salad was rubbery. I called them after 2.5 hours to see where my order was and it still took another hour to get my cold food. The kicker is I only live 5 blocks away. Don't know what these new owners are doing. My husband and I and some friends recently dined at this establishment. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was as good if not better than under the previous owners. The amount of each serving was more than we could eat. Hopefully new waitstaff will be hired to serve all the new customers . read more

Walked over to have a sundae. They didn't have any bananas to get the one I wanted, so got a turtle instead. By far the most watery cheap ice cream I've ever had, let alone frozen custard. The only place I know in walking distance and I'll drive somewhere else next time. read more

This was our first and LAST visit to the Champion Chicken (on 8/18/2013). We had (carry-out) The chicken was DISGUSTING...it was greasy, dry, the oil it was fried in had to be old. The chicken was not made fresh at all. The chicken left a very nasty taste in my mouth...I seriously thought I was going to throw up. The only reason we tried this place was because our favorite place GOLD RUSH was closed. The fries (cold) come in a styrofoam cup w/no top attached to it. The rolls tasted as if they weren't even done...apparently there was no time to brown them. The employees were less than enthusiastic...oh and did I mention there was a fly infestation(that may be a little exaggeration) but not by much. I would fry your own chicken at home before you step foot in this establishment. 15 minute wait just to even place an order, because their online services wasn't working. Every 5 minutes, someone would rudely grab the phone and just say hold, then slam it back down. After 20 minutes, got an answer and said food would be ready in 30 minutes. Needless to say not impressed with customer service... food wasn't great either. read more

Don't eat here.Since it's under new management, the food wasn't the food we ordered or the way we wanted it prepared. The staff is totally obtuse...the waiting time for any service was incredible. The Champ catered lunch for our office - about 15 people. I have to say, everything was really good. The delivery person was on time, friendly and helpful setting up the food. The food was delicious. The fried chicken was warm, crisp and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes tasted like real mashed potatoes and had a hearty texture. The coleslaw was fresh and crispy, not soupy. Needed to try a new place and happened upon Champion Chicken while driving down Lisbon. The interior felt like an up 'nort lodge -- lots of wood and fishing photos. I was not expecting that at all! Hubby and I had different chicken -- he got the 5 piece and I got a chicken sandwich. Both were delicious! Loved the breading, and all of the sides were great. Service was excellent and very kind. What is going on here? So many great reviews, and my meal was terrible...I have to believe we just got a bad batch of chicken or something. It tasted like the oil used to fry the chicken was old and burnt. Mashed potatoes and coleslaw was good - not quite as good as KFC but very close. Mozzarella sticks...not stringy at all and a bit cold. Very little flavor. Hmmmm...despite the good reviews, I don't think I could even try this place again. Bummed. read more

Total fan . Who else delivers pizza, chicken, burgers, mexican, desserts, etc.? No one. Mil-town needs more all-inclusive delivery places like this......THE VANILLA CUSTARD IS AWESOME. Picked this place because it was close and open. Not a bad pick. I had Cajun blackened chicken, very good. Huge portions. The fried chicken was crispy, hot and good. This has always been a go to place near my sister's. Last night was my first experience under new ownership. While they still have a pizza special on Tuesday nights, the service was horrible, the pizza was soggy in the middle, and no beer anymore. Wow! This is not good news. I love the chicken and all of the food here really! Good milkshakes. The staff is friendly in the dining area/restaurant. The manager or whoever is in charge in the take out area is seemingly rude to his employees. I was in there once and he was screaming at this poor girl. It wasn't a good thing to do in front of customers, or at all. You don't scream at your employees like that. read more

We use Champion Chicken for a chicken buffet & all the fixings for our group (75 people) twice yearly, for many years. I was originally against this idea, but decided to continue our group's tradition. I became a believer after the first buffet three years ago: Excellent food, delivery across town to us with setup, food choices (other than chicken), serving size, and value. If anything, the food has gotten better over the years. This review comes as high praise from a 'scratch' cook. If I lived or drove nearby, I'd be taking-out for home on a weekly basis. I was hungry for chicken. I am with two elderly ladies ( one blind). And I am on the north west side of Milwaukee. Haven't been to Champion Chicken in years but I grew up with that truck driving all around. We had the best chicken dinner we've had in a long time. And on Tues, it is the special. 4 pieces of chicken with choice of potatoes, coleslaw or applesauce and a roll. It was literally heaven. And our server (Liz) (rose) was so sweet and attentive. She didn't rush us ( we move and eat very slowly). She couldn't have been kinder. Will go back with my husband (who got to eat my takehome leftovers) read more

I would've expected a much better especially since every time I went past the parking lot was jam packed of cars and the takeout area was standing room only. So I decided to treat the family out to fry chicken other than the ones that we always. The service was extremely slow. The chicken was soggy and filled with gease as if it had been sitting there all day. I ordered the family size bucket of chicken with sides and all the trimming for the price I paid close to $40 for chickenI would've come out better by getting a pop eyes special or my usual place which is pick and save 8 piece for 6.99. I used to eat here at least 3 times a week. But I found out that they pre-fry the fish fry the day before. That turned me off. Also I had a batch of chicken that was soaking in grease. Gotta be honest. I grew up in the neighborhood and have been to Champion Chicken many times. The chicken here just isn't very good. As others have noted, they use stale old grease. I've also noticed many times the chicken has a "fishy" flavor. The people giving glowing reviews obviously don't know good chicken unfortunately. read more

The food was absolutely fantastic! Sat in the restaurant and the service was great. The server was very nice and attentive. The portions are good sized. The mashed potatoes and gravy was fantastic!! This Milwaukee icon was disappointing, to say the least. I ordered a tub of chicken at 4:29 p.m. and asked to have it delivered. I was told it would arrive within the hour. An hour 15 minutes later, it hadn't arrived so I called again. They said it would be here any minute. It came 10 minutes later (almost 1 1/2 hours after ordered). The food was cold. On top of it, I think they are using a phone system from 1920. When they answered, they said, "please hold." The woman then proceeded to throw the phone on the counter and I could hear everything she was saying to other customers. I heard another line with a busy signal and she hung up on me. I tried again and was able to order. When I called back because the delivery hadn't arrived, I had a busy signal for at least 10 minutes. Nothing like a multi-line phone system. This has become my go-to place for carry-out chicken. Not only do they have great pressure fried chicken they also have other great menu offerings including really good pizza. I can satisfy the multiple tastes in my house with one stop. They also offer delivery for those in range. Great option for quick impromptu meals for the entire family. read more

Things here have changed....the interior is a bit better, never disliked it before. The staff and food has. To start with, the menu is different physically. It looks like a large mouse pad. Way to big instead of being a normal size and opening it up. Second, the main draw here to me was always the "chicken" hence Champion Chicken. Can barely find the chicken on the menu. And the dinners now come with fries?? Come on. So this is the first time I've been here under new ownership. First time I've ordered a burger. No pickles, lettuce, not even a bottle of mustard? My wife used to love their "waffle" fries. The menu says waffle fries, but the burgers had regular fries. The most baffling thing is there has to be at least 20 different custom pizzas on the menu including a gyro pizza? Pizza Man is 5 minutes away. If this restaurant is going to survive they better revert back to the way it used to be...old school. Chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls and sandwiches. Don't need mexican, 50 pizzas....jack of all trades and masters of none. Sad to say during a lunch hour at 12pm there were 2 tables occupied. Hope they turn things around. read more
