I am a big time foodie and have been on the hunt for good fried chicken in Milwaukee. I have past by Champions Chicken a million times but have never stopped in. Two days ago I was at a work site close to Champions and needed to take some food home to my family. However, I stopped by Champions to try a piece of fried chicken. I usually sample the food I take home before buying it in larger quantities. I decided to pick up food from another restaurant instead though the chicken breast I sampled was tasty. Needless to say, I decided to go back tonight; My family unfortunately, had another late work night. I called the order in ahead of time. I asked some questions pertaining to quantity, what comes with the order and cost. The guy on the phone was totally clueless and had to go ask questions per everyone of my questions. To make a long story short he confirmed with someone that the 12 pieces of chicken I ordered came with fries and roles. I arrived to pick up my order and had some time to waste. I was informed that my order would be ready in 15 minutes, but I got there within 10 minutes , I paid for my order, then set to wait. As I waited for my order, I observed the habits of the employees for cleanliness. Nothing personal, I do this at every restaurant I go to, particularity the places with an open kitchen. Champion's primarily have an open kitchen concept. There were a total of seven people in the kitchen none of them had gloves on, hair nets nor washed there hands no matter what they were doing. I was there a total of 30 minutes.One of the cooks scratched his scalp, rubbed his hair and then rubbed his face as he was holding a Styrofoam plate that he was fixing for a order to go. A second cook rubbed his face before continuing what he was doing. Everyone helped put plates together, even the two guys with no apparent concern for customers that handled the cash register with cash and cards. By the way these two guys also answer the phone, and generally did not seem to know why they were there. When I got my order, I looked in the bag and noticed that I had a cup of fries, and a carton of 12 pieces of chicken; but I had no rolls. So I asked where my rolls were and the young man that had confirmed on the phone that rolls came with my order, asked an older lady where my rolls where and she stated that it did not come with the order. The other guy running the cash register told the other clueless guy to give me some rolls. They asked me how many and I said four. He then proceeded to reach into the roll bag and get four rolls out with his bare hands, to give to me. I stated that I did not want them because he reached in with his bare hands after handling the phone , cash, cash register and etc. He got smart, and said I did not have to take them and that they where giving them to me free anyway. This was his come back for not being concerned about public health. I responded and stated to him that he should have no reason for getting frustrated because I did not want to receive something from him that was not being handle in a healthy way. I took the chicken to attempt to reheat at home, but I will never shop Champions Chicken again. I am very tolerant of a lot of establishments, however, I can not tolerate my health. Seven individuals not washing there hands, wearing gloves and touching their own skin while serving food is not a mishap, a bad night or mistake; but it is apparently a culture of food preparation at this restaurant. read more

With that being said, it was a typical Saturday night and I wasn't in the mood to cook so I went into Champion Chicken and ordered a small pizza and an 8 pcs chicken dinner. I will start with the pizza, the pizza was very disappointing, but the establishment is call Champion Chicken so I take full responsibility for ordering a pizza in the first place. Now for the chicken. I really don't know where to start. The purpose of me going to to Champion Chicken was for me NOT to have to do anything in the kitchen. The 8pcs was undercooked. The skin was not crispy at all. To salvage the dinner I put all of pcs into my air fryer and made the meal edible. I will not visit this establishment again. read more

Loved coming here on Saturdays for the kickoff special $20.99 for a quart of mashed potatoes, a pint of coleslaw, gravy, rolls and 15 pieces of chicken. Was told 20 minutes but took 55 minutes. Brought it home and coleslaw and mashed potatoes were only half full. She said they only give 3 scoops of potatoes and 2 scoops of cole slaw. Clearly do not understand measurements of quart and pint. This restaurant needs to be shut down and be sold to someone that knows how to run a restaurant and know what they are doing. The new owner has no clue what he is doing. It's sad that all the regular cooks in the back quit. And infront of the restaurant servers and hosts quit. Food prices went up. Food doesn't taste the same when Ed ran it. Tables and counter are nasty. Floors are filthy. Air conditioner doesnt work.Foods quality is bad. Servings are small for what they charge. They no longer serve alcohol. Please. Food was hot, very salty and wet I guess they couldn't put foil in the container to keep crispy smh. Also after tasting one piece I moved chicken to see that they don't even clean meat this is very disgusting feathers still on the chicken. Heath department walk through this kitchen NEVER AGAIN. Where is the cold slaw that comes with the dinner and roll oh yeah I forgot you probably didn't have any. Take it off the menu I will never order again waste of money . Ordered wings, both bone-in and boneless, and they did not get a single thing correct in our order. We got no boneless wings and all the sauces were incorrect. Also ordered a side of fries that we did not receive. I'm not sure if we were given the wrong order, but regardless I am very unhappy with champion chicken. read more

Use to LOVE Champion Chicken. Ordered large orders regularly for business functions and use to always recommend. Unfortunately, new management took over. Chicken is no longer cooked to perfection, a cheep version of their biscuits are given, smaller portion sizes, poor customer service skills (if they even answer their phone), wrong amounts charged to credit card, poor delivery time, etc... Don't waste your money or time. I'm sure there are way better chicken places ready and willing to give you the service you desire. read more

The chicken is outstanding. I would say it's the best fried chicken I've had. Ordering delivery is simple and the food always arrive early or at the very least, on time. My only complaint is the little cup of custard that's suppose to come with the meal is usually forgotten. read more

NOT what it used to be. I used to be in the neighborhood a lot about ten years ago and used to stop in regularly. I understand there are new owners. I stopped in at 1:30 on a Thursday, so a bit after the lunch rush. Place was dirty and appeared to be two employees. The only menu was a placemat with the menu in front of the register... this would have made it hard for me to decide what I wanted IF there had been someone else at the counter. The woman behind the counter asked " Are you hear for the meeting?" I asked, what meeting? and she looked nervous and said, never mind. This sounded like code for... are you here to pick up your drugs or something. Keep in mind... the place was EMPTY except for me... so again.. what was she asking? I almost left at that point. I ordered the 2 PC Chicken dinner. They did not have ANY Diet drinks... "no body wants them" so I guess I am "no body". I sat and waited for my food. I brought a Diet Pepsi in from my car. Sitting I noticed how neglected the place was. There are only three small tables to sit in an area that could easily have held 12 tables. Maybe they dont want to make a place too loiter. The gum ball machine was empty and dirty. Old photos of the area were faded or damaged and there were photos of the OLD owners race cars still up on the walls. My food came... and it was hot, but appeared to be Chicken from earlier that had been dropped back into the fryer to heat it up. Lots of Fries and a handful of catsup packets. A small plastic cup of not very good Cole slaw as included. 8 bucks for two pieces of over cooked chicken and a bunch of fries... and a less than clean place to sit and eat... Another excellent Carryout dinner! Have tried so many establishments for a great Wisconsin fish fry and always come back to Champion Chicken. 5 menus of food to choose from. It takes a while to read from the ribs to mexican dishes to italian and I believe I saw some greek influence...but you know what. Just go with the chicken. Don't gamble with a burrito or steak. It's called Champion Chicken, guess what they do really really well? CHICKEN. This place is ridiculous. I can't believe I've lived within 3 miles of it for 17 years and never dined here before. (I have had take-out from here though). I guess I never realized they had a dining room. Champion Chicken could be highlighted on a road food TV show like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It's got good food, a kitschy environment (I love The Beatles wall!), fresh craft beer and excellent prices. My wife and I both had chicken, Her the 2-piece dinner for $5.95 and me the chicken and ribs for a little more. In either case, we could have shared a plate and still been stuffed! Beer was priced right too. A pretty good sized glass of Sprecher or Capital was only $3. In fact, with beer prices so good, I'm not sure why I'm not there right now! ;) Their namesake chicken is very good. The meat is moist and the breaded skin well-seasoned and crispy. Just the way I think good fried chicken should taste. Had lunch here, I had a burger with a side salad and my buddy had a chicken platter. Both meals were very good, filling, and cheap. I was especially impressed with my salad as it wasn't just a cheap iceburg salad from a bag. Fresh spinach greens, a hard boiled egg, and Italian dressing made for a healthy alternative to fries, and sort of offset my burger. I passed this place by so many times as I thought it was part of a chain. Outside it certainly looks so and the door for takeout is more prominent than the one for the restaurant proper. I don't recall when they started in business but it was a long, long time ago. I was surprised at how nice the atmosphere is, kinda like a brighter Kalt's for you oldsters out there. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised at how good the chicken is, the right amount of crispy without being dry. The cole slaw was the creamy variety and lot of it and you had your choice of potato. I went with the potato pancakes (2) with apple sauce for a dollar upcharge. Another small but important thing to me was their iced tea is brewed, not from the gun (like some more upscale places, I talking to you, Hollander restaurants). Their menu selection will leave you speechless. They sell everything from tacos to burgers to fried chicken to pasta. They have solid sandwiches, such as the smothered chicken sandwich, which is covered in melted cheese and peppers. None of their food is particularly outstanding. It's all pretty decent. There is literally something for everyone. The service is incredibly friendly and your food will come out quick and hot! It feels very much like a big old family style restaurant and they treat you like family, too. Pretty outdated wooden furniture and decor, but that's what makes it Champion Chicken. read more

Oh, wow. Hands down, best chicken I've ever had. The atmosphere is very cozy, and the wait staff is extremely attentive. The chicken dinner was crisp, with a melt in your mouth flavor that is unbeatable. The waffle fries were crispy and big. The cole slaw cup was overflowing, and very delicious. Even the dinner roll was awesome. Even with all of that food, make sure you save room for dessert- the caramel cashew sundae made with fresh frozen custard was delectable. read more

Champion Chicken has to be under new ownership, because I don't remember the food tasting as good as it does now. Ordered a tray of wings over the summer. Did not disappoint, everyone loved them. We recently ordered fish on two separate occasions and it was absolutely delicious. The only issue I have is the french fries could be more crispy. They tend to be a little on the soggy side. IF i could give a zero I would was told at 4:05 pm 45 minutes to an hour at 5:15 was told driver would be there in a minute 10 minutes later I received a call from the driver he was at my side door. Went to door no pizza or driver he WAS AT THE WRONG HOUSE on the wrong street! another 10 minutes - cold pizza cold garlic bread! I called the manager and was told he "had me" "not to worry" he would call me back! it is now 6:05 PM.not call at all. oh and by the way the large pizza had 12 pieces or peperoni and less than that on the sausage. Their food is solid and they have an extensive menu, including multiple options that had nothing at all to do with chicken. I went there with a fairly large group and we sampled a variety of items from the menu. Everyone left satisfied. The portions aren't skimpy, but they're not too over-the-top, either. The staff there did a great job tending to us and seemed to have a good sense of humor at the same time. The room was a bit kitschy but I do revel in that sort of thing. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but you could do a whole lot worse. Really lousy! Potato skins were so unappetizing looking because they looked grayish with microwaved cheese on them. The bacon on them looked gross too. They went in the trash(we did carry out). Chicken was fair, but other national chains are much better. Fries...soggy, mashed potatoes like glue and parsley potatoes were not edible! I would give it no stars if I could. I used to really enjoy their Friday fish fry. Ordered it last night over the phone expecting the usual crisp battered pieces of fish and their great crunchy pub fries. When I went to pick up the order, I didn't recognize any of the staff...which should've been my first cause for concern. When I got home I found four soggy pieces of fish and a small pile of mushy under-cooked French fries. What a huge disappointment - especially for an order that cost over $12. Probably the most unnecessarily rude customer service I've ever experienced. I ordered a few items from them through door dash and was contacted by someone at the restaurant about the order. He informed me that they didn't have multiple items I'd order and that I must have been looking at an old menu (I'd been looking at door dash of course and a menu that was delivered to my house a few days ago). I asked him if he had any recommendations - a question that seemed to inconvenience him - and he said "no, I don't know. What do you I want?" I asked him to cancel the order and he told me to do so on doordash. I can't because the order was already accepted by the restaurant. I confirmed this on doordash and called Champion back to ask them to cancel it. The same guy picked up the phone and responded to my request to cancel with "how can you tell me I can do something I cannot do?" and hung up on me. Yeah. read more

The new owners are Muslim, so they don't serve alcohol any more. They do still serve pork, though, which doesn't make any sense. The chicken wasn't as good (the leg was so small I thought it was a wing!) and the place was empty at prime dinner time. They are going to run this place into the ground.
