When on Block Island there is a mandatory Mudslide or two that everyone should have. Champlains is famous for theirs. The debate being the one from their dock bar or the inside bar. Banana mudslide is fire. Service is crap. Asked for a canned ket one peach orange and waited forever. Asked again and was told she is working on it. My husband already got his frozen drink and this was canned. Finally was handed a grapefruit rose one. It was already opened and noticed after I had a sip. It was decent so I didn't complain because I'd probably be waiting another 20 minutes. Will update after after food comes...I've been waiting an hour... Update: food arrived. My husband got lobster roll and enjoyed it, I got hot honey chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was huge and pretty good. We prefer two little fish in Westerly but it was valid. I was charged for the wrong drink (some mix drink) but it was corrected. I realized later why I was given the wrong flavor seltzer. I overheard bartender tell someone they were out and this was the last rose grapefruit. Overall food is decent. Service meh. Would I return? Unlikely. read more

Boy, do they know how to make delicious mudslides!!! After spending the day at Coast Guard Beach, we headed by dinghy to Champlin's for mudslides. I ordered their traditional mudslide with banana blended into it topped with a Peanut Butter whiskey floater on top (Screwball). It's a bit pricey, BUT you do get to keep their cool "stainless steel" looking cups which is legitimately frost on the outside when filled with that frozen drink. Yum! It's like a meal in itself! We docked for a night and the dock hands and service are get. Lots of boats to handle during and after a storm and all was great. They pack a lot of boats in a small space. But the best part of the trip was the little cafe for coffee, breakfast and sundries. The young gal working (from Colorado) couldn't have been sweeter or perkier so early. The Landing restaurant at Champlin's is amazing. The ambience is very nice and there was live music the night we went. The staff are all friendly and very attentive to your needs. The food is creative, well executed and just delicious. We ate mussels appetizer special which were so tender and tasty with truffle fries on top. Our main entrees were lobster Mac-n-cheese, crab cakes, salmon & sea scallops. All of it was divine. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

First thing that comes to mind when you say Champlin's is Banana Mudslide. Obvi. If you haven't had one while on Block, make sure you call Judy from ABC Taxi and have her drive you there right away when you get off the ferry. (401) 742-2940. Judy is awesome. Champlin's is under new management this year and I have seen a lot of improvements. Not that I had any issues in the past, I'll add. The one thing I noticed is that the annual Halloween party in mid August is not on the calendar this year. Please bring that back! So fun! Our group had a blast this past Saturday for a quick day trip. I tried the Rum Punch this time as well. Very good! We found a table at the end of the pier and set up a quick game of Jumbo Jenga! Do it! I look forward to my next overnight stay at Champlin's. I had a great time the last time I stayed in August 2019 and with all the improvements that I'm reading and hearing about, I bet it will be even better! read more

Terrible customer service (Elizabeth at marina) .They would not refund $500 deposit due to due active thunderstorm, 25-29knot wind, and rainstorm . would not credit $500 either. I filed a fraud charge on credit card and funds returned . this is no way to treat boaters. I provided charts from Windy and local reports showing active thunderstorms which is considered an advisory for ALL ship vessels... they continued to lie and say it's "clear now" . I emailed them data and they didn't care ... Nobody is going to bring a family in a thunderstorm . Idiotic . based on my communication with this marina and resort , they are desperate for money . several bad summer weekends clearly has made this resort desperate and tight momentarily . would not trust them with my vessel or cc... stay away . read more

Another 3 star. Pool was green even though social media post viewed otherwise. Rooms were nice, clean and new. Drinks seemed overpriced for the little amount of alcohol added. Grounds were kept well and lawn games under tent was fun. Coffee shop was a nice touch and convenient . Didn't make use of sweet shop or restaurant this time. Do not waste your time eating at The Landing at Champlains. The staff is inattentive and disinterested, the food and drinks take too long to come out, even if you're the only patrons, and is not as advertised. The lobster roll is cold with mayonnaise despite the description of "warm, buttered roll". The mudslides at the end of the dock are phenomenal so don't bother ordering one at the Landing, it's barely frozen and more like chocolate milk. read more

I've been staying at Champlin's for at least 20 years. I stayed there again for a week this July. My husband and I stayed on our boat at the marina, and other family members stayed on property in a hotel room. When I heard there were new owners, I was skeptical, but overall, I was happy with the changes that have been made. The property has been given a much-needed face-lift. The parking has been moved to the old tennis courts, and where is parking previously was, there are now plenty of picnic tables and things look clean - no more looking at the garbage dumpsters. There are lots of flowers throughout the property, and the landscaping is pretty and well maintained. The new cafe is nice, but I would like to see more offerings in the way of grab and go - there were very few baked goods no matter what time of day it was. The former mini market has been replaced by an ice cream shop, which was not opened yet when I was there. I do miss the shop. It was so convenient to go there if I needed something, or forgot to bring something with me. I hope that will be brought back in some capacity. The playground is gone, but there is now lots of seating there and plenty of lawn games. I always saw families out there playing the games and having a nice time. The pool is clean, and was also full of families - very nice to see. Kids were still going up and down the docks fishing, crabbing, and enjoying themselves. They are short staffed, but so are most places nowadays. The staff that was there was always pleasant, and helpful. I have nothing but nice things to say about them. The hotel rooms are re-vamped. The room my family was in looked very nice, but the dresser is very poorly made and felt as if it would fall over if you used it, the exhaust fan in the bathroom didn't work, and there is no carpeting at all, so you can hear every single step and move your upstairs neighbors make - that was quite annoying. One thing that hasn't changed is the mudslides. I've seen people complaining that they are smaller, but that is not the case - they just use different cups now. Those mudslides are as delicious as ever! There is still a learning curve going on there, but I was happy with our stay there. I will stay there again next summer, and I am hopeful that more positive changes will be made and that some of the kinks will have been worked out. read more

Almost two hour wait for our slip assignment, left to our own devices to avoid the other boats and dozens of dinghies. Boathand with no experience , damage done to our boat. pool was so polluted and cloudy, they had to drain pool. Only one women's restroom with two stalls which were filthy. They allow extremely loud music from private boats until 2 am. Kiddie city and lots of teens and tweens everywhere. Please... don't stay here. read more

I want to start by saying-my review is specifically for boat hooked up at the dock. I didn't see or step inside of any of the rooms but damn, the reviews for the rooms sound absolutely awful. I suspect Champlin's doesn't read these reviews because they're pretty savage about mold and unsatisfactory situations. So while I'm sorry for people who have endured less than stellar stays at Champlin's, I can't say I had anything BUT a wonderful time there. I've never had the luxury of sleeping on a nice boat at a marina but if the weekend I had is what it's like, then Block Island and Champlin's are for me. They jam those boats in there and your slip fee provides for electrical power and water to the boat. You can use the bathrooms, showers, pool, grills and beach too. There's a snack bar, dinghy rental, bumper boats, bakery, little store, full restaurant and a bar that's right on the dock. It's an incredible, undeniably festive atmosphere there. Everyone is having a good time chatting up one another, making new friends. The bar was cranking out $11 mudslides (and anything else you'd want) and there was either a band or DJ happening most of the time. Serious fun going on. I can't wait to return to Block Island with my friends and stay at Champlain's again. read more

This was my first time visiting Champlin's and I was blown away by the hospitality and thoughtful care I was provided during my stay. The property has been completely renovated and opened for the season-- so I was excited to experience the refresh during a wedding expo/event. I was so well taken care of (the staff remembers your name and they go the extra mile to help you), my room (#308) was beautiful, the food and drinks I ordered were delish, and the atmosphere was perfect. I am witnessing the Hamptons being over run by the billionaire fake people... who Come out to The peacefulness of nature and then try to over price it and change it to what they want... Block Island has always been a family friendly area... PLEASE don't sell out like East Hampton has... Keep it for the people.. not the elite... Best stay for family boaters on the island and yet still has the amenities of an adult playground. We LOVE Champlins and after staying at another marina keep returning here a few times every year. I especially appreciate how the staff always works to come up with a "yes" answer to any need I may have. They are accommodating and kind, a great definition of what customer service should be. The morning coffee at the bakery, mudslides at the pier, nice showers for boaters, and pool/playground are just a few things that keep us coming back for more. This time we stayed in a room, and were impressed by the fluffy pillows and overall cleanliness off the newly updated space. We will be returning in a few months, Champlins has more amenities than any other place on Block Island. read more

Absolutely my favorite chill spot on the island! Awesome place to dock your boat. The dock hands actually know what they're doing and they're super nice. Best customer service!! Super accommodating and kind. The bar IS THE BEST MUDSLIDES ON THE ISLAND!!!! Danny and Nelio are my favorite bartenders. 100% the funniest guys! Nelio is always dancing and getting the party going and Danny has the best jokes! The best HYPE guys I know. The DJ- OG PaulyD is great only dj on the island that actually listens when you request a song and plays songs based on the crowd which is super awesome. It's the best family friendly place. There's a pool, arcade, ice cream shop, and the oyster bar has really good seafood. Haven't ever stayed in the rooms which I heard people complain about however I do really enjoy this dock. They do a lot for adults and family! I feel like only the people with negative views comment however this is my favorite spot to hang out and chill. The marina is fantastic we have stayed every summer for the last 5 years...the marina alone would be 4-5 stars. BUT... This year we had boat trouble and stayed at the hotel to not lose our money. Honestly we spend 3 days and paid 2,000 for 2 of the most outdated, smelly and terrible rooms. Champlins...it all needs updating. My kids room stink of mold and mildew and had no windows. Not even sure how this meets code. Our room wasn't much better. I honestly can't believe these rooms. Never again. However I do have a few suggestions. It was by far the worst hotel stay I have ever had. I've had far nicer rooms at the Hampton inn. Tips: Get rid of the gross damp carpet, vinyl plank would be the right choice. Update furniture and redo all rooms/common space. To the prospective occupant. Lots of tips: Bring your own soap dish, trash can, air freshener, sheets (ours had a yellow stain and housekeeping cane once in 3 days) bring your own ice bag liners, conditioner and a fantastic sense of humor. 2k...seriously??? Oh you may as well pack towels since they didn't refresh them daily. Shameful. I'm sad the marina suggested it, I thought you liked us as much as we liked you. Next year we will begin new traditions. Not happy. Also I typically prefer to use Yelp to highlight things I like...the fact I have you a poor review means you earned it. read more

So...the 2021 season is Champlin's first under new ownership. It is a work in progress. We have a boat that's less than 35'. All rates for dockage are up about 50%. The "minimum" rate is the 35' rate. We booked anyway because we like the relative quiet, clean bathrooms near the pool, and the pool. They've eliminated the smelly dumpster in the "plaza". Now there are lots of trash and recycling containers spread throughout the property. The only food service available on the property is from the renovated cafe. The promised new restaurant has not yet opened - but bar service is available at the pool starting Thursday and presumably ending Sunday. The mudslides supposedly are the same recipe. I remember them being creamier. Bathrooms near the plaza are redone. It looks like guest rooms are redone. Aldo's bike and moped rentals are gone, as are bumper boats and I think all water sport rentals. Nonetheless, it is still pretty nice...it's a 3 because on some level it sucks. On another level - it's Block, and it's such an awesome staging area for adventure - and it is GREAT! read more

Every year my family and I go to Block Island we stay at Champlin's. We always tie up at the dock, if its only our boat or if we have 10 other of my dads friends come. We always have an amazing time. The service here is good. They work fast and always together. The tiki bar is awesome at the end of the dock, with a top deck. It is also a landing dock for the Viking Ferry. You can rent a bike from Aldos here as well. They have hotels here for vacationers. They have a bakery and an arcade! Also they have a food stand and a restaurant. Whats great about this place is they also have an in ground pool and a tiki bar there as well. You can order food and drinks pool side. They also have bumper boats and kayak rentals. There is a play ground for the kids which is nice at night and day. They have a convient store for products you may need (plates, cups, drinks, coal etc). They also have a BBQ area for multiple families which is a nice spot at night. You may see the same people who have been there for years (genie). The dock fees are reasonable. You can also Moore your boat with Launch service. You can also get fuel for your vessel here as well. It is seriously a cool area for people of all ages. This is the place to try if you are going to Block Island. read more

Worst marina in New England. All boats crammed together and rafted most of the time. Dockmaster has a real attitude (just read the other posts complaining about him). Waited 40 minutes at fuel dock for other boats which was not neccessary since they used the long hose (they have two hoses) on a number of closer boats instead of ours which it would have reached. After waitng all this time for the other boats to finish fueling the dockmaster wanted us to move out of the way to make way for a larger 100' boat which just arrived. They care only about the money not about the boaters. When we tried to explain how long we waited he got confrontational and arugmentative. Who needs this while on vacation. Ive been coming here since I was a kid but it was the first time without staying on my parents boat in the marina. The hotel room was nice and spacious! Brand new floors, crown molding, bed was very comfortable... I couldn't jave asked for anything better. The snack bar has great food, we loved the bakery and ice cream options. Should be zero stars. Giant rip off- they advertise tennis courts and there are no nets and it's now a parking lot with cars and scooters parked all over the courts. Clearly the owner, Joe doesn't give a sh-t. The courts have been not operational the past 3 years. They charge $48 for a case of water. $5 bags of ice they actually make right there and bag it. Rip off!!! The best thing about it is the mudslides and the new restaurant, which is not part of champlins. It's a cash cow with zero investment back into it for the customer. It's the most expensive docking on the island. Stay somewhere else - Payne's, Ballard's, boat basin. Anywhere but this money hole. read more
