    Looking East at ferry Docks

We have been staying at the Inn at Old Harbor on and off since my wife and daughter discovered it in 2004. The two stars are for nostalgia. What a find. Small but clean Island style rooms, a little deck in most rooms. A nice community room with a TV and comfortable furniture. Wine and cheese in the late afternoon and always cold cucumber water in the front bar/veranda area. Very pleasant Husband and wife owners. Then their son and daughter took over. Still OK but service started to slip. Then COVID and new owners or managers. Jose was very nice but gone was the community room, cheese and wine, house keeping, ice buckets, clean towels even if staying for a week. Then there was last week. We knew what we were getting at the Inn so no issues there. But the person running the place was rude, hostile and treated her three summer workers from the Czech republic horribly in front of guests and other shoppers in the attached store. I told one of her summer workers that we did not have the hair dryer in the room as advertised and asked for one. She could not find one so apparently she had to call the manager 0830 Saturday AM. We left for Ernie's for breakfast to beat the 0900 ferry crowd. We when got back the manager, Gazell?, Gissel?, called my wife to come into the store where she was very angry and hostile about us asking for something she said was the at the beginning of the season. The poor girl I asked was forced to stand there while the manager said, "this would have been handled differently if I was here" Not sure what that was for other than to berate the girl. There was trash cans, boxes and and old bureau piled up under our tiny (cute) second floor balcony. Oh, I asked for ice too because it was a very hot June day but the ice machine was broken. We actually like the Inn but will not return until this manager is gone. I think the absentee owner is Gabrielle (?) and if you read this please get rid of this manager. Do just a little bit of clean up and maintenance and have a place where we can get a clean/dry towel. Bring back Jose.

She was absolutely running circles around everyone--making drinks, helping guests, answering questions from multiple staff members, and somehow keeping everything moving despite being pulled in every direction. She handled a busy bar with professionalism and a great attitude. What really stood out, though, was watching the chef come out and speak to her in an incredibly rude and disrespectful way in front of a full bar. No employee deserves to be treated like that, especially not someone who was clearly carrying so much of the workload. Kudos to her for staying calm, keeping her composure, and continuing to provide excellent service despite being spoken to in such a rude manner. She was the reason our experience remained positive. I hope management recognizes how valuable she is--and also addresses how inappropriate that interaction was. 0 stars for an uncomfortable experience with the chef. 5 stars for professional bartender

We were very disappointed with our stay at BIBH. The location is unbeatable and the view from the…read moreoutdoor dining area is spectacular... but you don't have to be a guest there in order to enjoy those two things. That's about where the good review stops. We never received housekeeping service despite asking for it twice. Their staff is gone by 6 PM so they can't help you unless it's an emergency. The hotel is NOT like the pictures! I mean, the decor is, but the hotel is very, very old and definitely "lipstick on a pig." We got a two bedroom suite and the bathroom was the size of a shoebox. You couldn't sit down on the toilet without bumping your head on the sink. Fair warning - no elevators - when you arrive, they tell you to walk two blocks down the street with your luggage and then up a two flights of stairs. No offer of help. We asked for an extra room key and they said "oh, we don't do that." We told them we were disappointed and they ignored the message. Worst customer service we've experienced at any hotel in a very long time. It's a shame because it has potential.

This way we could make reservations for dinner, etc. She checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. This is off season and she was by herself. I have to say she handled it very well. We had family on the trip with us who joined us for drinks and she attended to all of us and the other quests. She was the attending to the front desk, bartender, etc. She did not miss a beat. Impressive! We were on the island in Sept. My friends stayed here and loved it. I come often and have had brunch here, but this is the first time we've stayed. The room was spacious. My 10yr old loved her pull out bed. She asked us to stay longer she had so much fun. Our room was the Tosh. The view is great, they have cheese and wine in the evenings and like I said I've had their brunch, it's great. Emily checked us out and I asked if she would be there in Aug/Sept. Told her wood call her to book and I look forward to seeing her. She was amazing!! I also have to give Rita a shout out. I met her in Sept and she was such a gem to my friends who were staying there. They are all very accommodating.

The bartenders are well trained, one claimed to make the best old fashioned and WOW! They sure did. Just wish I could recall their name. It was fabulous! The food (as many restaurants on the Block) is pricey but it is top knotch! We've never had a marginal meal here. It is perfectly balanced, and delicious every time. Our only recommendation is to bring the salads out first, wait 15 minutes then bring out the meal not all of it together, although we understand if folks aren't staying overnight this method of serving ensures they make their ferry to the mainland. So many times while climbing the stairs we heard other guests saying "xyz stairs" always made us laugh and yes we agree. However, it's great to walk off the calories from that delicious food and beverages! Entertainment in the back, the Adirondack chairs and fire pits are so very comfortable, cozy and fun! We loved the guitarist, he was sensational! We also really love that if we arrive early or check out and stay on the island longer, we can put our luggage in the storage room instead of having to lug it around until we check in or after we check out. We truly love the National and can't wait for next year's anniversary celebration!

First off, there was "Robyn"- I'd heard previous reviews , but honestly; until you meet her, you just have no idea how special this woman is!! When I say, she's a ray of sun shine-I mean it. She exudes positivity, kindness, graciousness!! She greeted us immediately, and gave us a brief orientation. Offered us lemon infused water, showed us where we can grab fluffy beach towels,, etc. gave us a tour of the grounds and incredible views. Then she showed us our room. She was extremely knowledgeable about the area-and made some wonderful dining recommendations. Our room was very cute. It has a country cottage appeal-bedding was high quality, as were the bath towels and toiletries. Our bed was so comfortable with the best pillows I've ever slept on. Bath robes were also provided, which was also such a nice touch. Our daily breakfast delivery was very special. I loved all of it-there was such an attention to detail-like a ramekin of Maldon salt flakes to add to the tomatoes on my lox and cream cheese bagel. Orange juice and coffee press every morning, and always a well balanced breakfasts. Eating off of hand crafted pottery made the meals even more appealing. I loved all those special touches. Any time we'd see Robyn in passing, she would always greet us with her beautiful smile and wonderful energy. She is such an asset to sea breeze. I'm sure the proprietors must know what an absolute gem they have in Robyn. Our room was close to the main road-so we did have to deal with a bit of street noise, however, it was also ticked all the way in back, which felt more private than some of the other cottages.
