I really have little to say other than we will not be back. The tamales were only ok and tasted mass produced like what they serve in a school cafeteria, really icky. This is a chicken place and other than white fish, chicken is pretty darn cheap as a protein, and this place is very overpriced for dry chicken. Not impressed. First time at Champy's but won't be the last. We went for dinner, had the two piece fried chicken dish with mac and cheese and beans. The beans were nothing special but the mac and cheese was the best I had anywhere. The chicken was fried to perfection, so juicy and crunchy. I really enjoyed the meal. The only thing I would improve is serving it in the dining room on real plates, I felt that the paper goods and styroform need to go. I kept thinking about how we are suppose to be caring for our environment and eating off of papergoods was making me feel guilty. I can imagine how many paper plates and cups they go through in a day! The atmoshere is what I would expect in a chicken place. The service was excellant, my stroform cup stayed full! First time here at Champy's Murfreesboro and It was quite an impressive experience. This place is a cool place to hang out with friends and family. Cool atmosphere with the delta blues jamming out in this establishment to go along with the soul food being served here. The Champy's Verdict - 1. The atmosphere was great with good music! 2. The drinks never got dry; good service. 3. You can eat outside on the deck which is huge. 4. Nice bar area and cool people making drinks. 5. The FOOD - It was great! Great chicken and sides to make you smile for more! 6. The prices here - OMG! Very reasonable... I thought it should have been more. This place is well worth the price you pay for the food your getting here. Pricing is EXCELLENT! Next,,, 7. With some good their is some bad. Store was not in the least busy. It was close to 9 on a Wednesday. I decided to wait only an extra 20 minutes for 1 item to go that was supposedly "super fast, they just have to heat it up, like 6 minutes." (According to her, who hadn't even remembered to put the order in.) There was also a lady standing near me who was handed her to-go order, but barely acknowledged while saying that she needed to pay- the little girl who handed her the bag walked away and told her just "hold on." 10 minutes later she is still waiting with her food trying to just pay for it, I would have walked out without paying if I were her because of the pure lack of staff attention. We went to Champy's for lunch today most enjoyable. The food and service were amazing. The menu says to give them a little extra time since the chicken is cooked fresh per order not like some who keep it in a warmer or on a steam table. This was hot and fresh. We had Mac n cheese and the green beans for our sides. My wife had the livers and I had the 4 piece fried chicken. Had plenty for supper tonight. Their fried chicken was pretty good. I really liked it. It was crispy, and I liked how it didn't have too much seasoning. It wasn't too salty. Definitely southern fried chicken. I really love their french fries. I'm very picky when it comes to fries, but theirs is awesome. It's located at the old hooters. Kinda still looks like hooters on the inside. We were greeted with a hostess, and they are I guess known for their fortys. I saw that they had a wine option that comes in a forty, but I didn't get to order that today because my other half drinks beer so we ordered a coors and shared it. It came out with 2 beer glasses for us. We got the half a chicken (wing, breast, leg, and thigh) and it comes with baked beans and slaw, but we replaced it with fries. Their baked beans were ok. It came out on paper plates, and our waters came out in styrofoam cups, but all in all, it was a pretty good experience. We will be back to try other things we didn't get to try today. read more

Growing up in the Mississippi delta, tamales were a staple of my diet so I have had them my entire life. When I saw Champy's while out Friday evening with my wife and son on our way to dinner at another place, I made a u turn and tried it out. The tamales were just as good as any I had ever had growing up! Great texture with plenty of beef and just the right seasoning. Just spicy enough without being overwhelming. My wife and I both had the two piece fried chicken and I was really impressed with how well it was done. Not overly breaded or greasy. Very crispy with juicy perfectly cooked chicken underneath. Love the look and feel of the restaurant. Made me feel like I was back home in the delta. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other offerings. read more

First time eating here and likely the last. Wasn't busy at all at 1pm but my food took quite some time to come out of the kitchen. My chicken leg and thigh came out hot but looked like it came from a pheasant (small size). The chicken leg was so salty either someone was playing a joke or accidentally spilled the whole salt shaker on it. The thigh was much better so I know this is likely an anomaly. The jalapeño hush puppies were just warm and bland. The cole slaw had an odd flavor that I can't really describe (hopefully I won't be sick later). The baked beans were awesome.....and my coke was great! I really wanted this to be good but that chicken leg was ridiculously salty and nothing was remotely good except the beans and coke. Well I would give zero stars if I could because I never got the chance to try this place. we showed up there at about 1045 today on a Sunday and the hostess said we could sit at the bar so we did. We passed by 4 girls who were employees chatting at the bar. We sat down and sat there for 5 or 6 minutes. All the girls seen us and 3 could see us sitting there. We looked at them a couple times and no one moved or said a word. Not like hey be right with u. Absolutely no menus and no conversation. So we got up walked passed them and passed the hostess who said have a nice day and we left. Don't know if we will give it another try or not. If you're reading this, you must be interested in Champy's. Are you ready for an honest review? Well, here goes. Awhile back, the wife and I went there, expecting a good, fried chicken dinner at a reasonable price. Well, we get there, the waitress takes the order for two, fried chicken dinners, and lo and behold, it was close to 45 minutes before we got our food! And, to add to the long wait, the food was served on styrofoam plates with plastic forks and knives! The chicken was okay, but nothing to write home about. Also, regarding the sides I had (baked beans and potato salad), they were also just average, along with the fact that they were very skimpy in how much food they put on the plate. Finally, regarding the prices, I thought they were WAY overpriced -- especially in light of how little food they gave you. In summation, I would definitely NOT recommend going to Champy's for these five main reasons: 1) Extremely slow service. 2) Usage of styrofoam plates and plastic forks and knives. 3) Average food at best. 4) Smallish portions for their sides. 5) Extremely high prices considering what you're paying for. Again, I would highly recommend that you DO NOT go to Champy's. read more

Pros: My parents really like the hot tamales here, which have a nice masa-to-meat ratio and a little heat without being hot. The slaw is also pretty good (and different; is that a little kale?). Fast service. Gotta love the crushed ice. Were also boiling crawfish or something out back under a little awning when we pulled in, which instills a lot of confidence in both their credentials as southern cooks and the promise that the food is made-to-order. This is a review from a visit in September . I decided to try the catfish and my boyfriend had the chicken so we could share . While the food was good , I didn't find the chicken to be any better than any other chicken place in town . The fish was good . Servings were large . The beer selection is decent . There were a few different ones , including the one in the pic . We would only go back if there was a special or we were meeting someone. There are better places for chicken in Murfreesboro for a better value . We will go back to try tamales as we have been told by several people that's where the restaurant stands out . read more

The chicken is cooked to order and tastes like home cooked in a good cast iron fryer. Its good! The service is all ways good. Baked beans, slaw, fries are some of the best. My hubby and I have made this our go to chicken spot. And recently had chicken & waffles and mimosas for brunch it was delicious! The syrup was not thick at all but cooked down. Just finished an absolutely delicious chicken dinner from Champy's! Just reviewing the food here, since I had it delivered by Orange Crate. The chicken was absolutely phenomenal! Even though I live on the other side of town, it arrived piping hot and super crispy. They must be cooking their birds in oil hot enough to make the devil sweat because the chicken isn't greasy at all! Granted, you're gonna get a little messy eating it because it is that juicy, but trust me, it's not grease. The seasoning brings a little bit of heat, so it may be a bit much for some folks, but I found it to be perfect. The skin was nice and crispy without relying on a ton of flour. It was nice and light but with a great flavor. The sides were also great. We had baked beans, potato salad, green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good, nothing to complain about here. The baked beans had a couple of different types of beans in them, weren't overly sweet and were very mild. There isn't any meat, but onion adds some good flavor and these were very tasty. Green beans are where all the meat is hiding, and they have a great meaty ham flavor without being overly salty. Delicious! Finally, the potato salad... I was excited when I popped the top on the container and saw a heavy dusting of paprika. Just the way my grandma used to make hers! The potato salad is an egg mustard variety, and aside from the size of the potato chunks, it was like eating my grandma's potato salad. I wouldn't change a thing! Creamy, not overly mustardy, great flavor from the paprika and little chunks of egg white here and there. Couldn't ask for better potato salad! Really loving this place. Great vibe. Here on a friday night. Great atmosphere indoors and out. I would say I would love to see some trees all along the Street line so we didn't have to hear the cars and it feel more like we are not on a busy street.
