Mamma Chang and Papa Chang have become like family to us over the years. She took us on a dumpling family dates. She's genius ,witty and hardworking. My husband has been coming here for over seven years, and I started acupuncture since I was pregnant in 2021. I had severe sciatica and carpal tunnel pain throughout my pregnancy. The pain was so bad that I couldn't walk without assistance. During this time, we moved from Manhattan Beach to Lake Forest. When nothing else worked, my husband suggested that I try acupuncture. I had never believed that it could actually be effective on the issues I had. I made a two-hour trip every week to see Mama Chang for all my issues. To my astonishment, all the pains I had just subsided within the first 2 sessions. I was nearing my due date, and this entire experience with Mama Chang was a blessing. Dr. Chang is an elder and extremely wise lady. Her energy is young and vibrant. I've been to two other Accupuncturists elsewhere and I can tell she is substantially more experienced. Other two places they placed the needles in and left me laying there for an hour and maybe flipped me on my other side half way through. Dr Chang is very hands on and comes in, what seems like every 5-10 minutes, to stimulate each needle. She uses tools to stroke some parts of your body for blood flow (and whatever other reason she does it for), massages some locations if you need it, hammers pressure in some locations, and touches pressure points. If necessary she does cupping and uses fire and what not. First time it was like a magic show for me. Intriguing. Haha. She finds all the Accupuncture points very quickly and accurately. I believe she stated she has been practicing at that location for 32 years. She genuinely wants to heal people of their ailments. It clears her heart every time someone calls to tell her that her magic worked. Today someone called and told her their pain went away-- after ONE treatment! They went to doctors, took medications, nothing helped. After one treatment they told her the pain is gone. What a miracle! After she got off the phone She looked as if it was her pain that was lifted off her shoulders after this patient was cured. As if she was walking on clouds. It's so sweet. She treats her patients as if they were her own children. At least that's how I feel. She tries to think of every and any solution possible. I heard about her through a friend who has introduced NUMEROUS of his friends to see her. She helped his daughter who had neurological issues. She gave him advice on what to do and it dramatically helped his child. The story is a true miracle. She helps with stress, thyroid issues, hormone imbalance, fertility, inflammation, pain, and who knows what else. When I first met her she asked me what the reason was I came in for. She tried to think of natural solutions to help me. She told me I had a complicated case and honestly admitted that she wasn't sure if she could help me 100% (or any other Accupuncturist for that matter), but that she would try and she would work on fixing everything else. She said she could fix my many other ailments but not my primary issue. She told me the price of her treatments and told me to think about whether I wanted to go forward with this or not. So she basically gave me a free consultation with her own personal advice! She's all about healing and not at all about the money. Sure it helps support her and her family and pay the bills but she'd rather be 100% successful than take your money and leave you dissatisfied. Though she is a bit more pricey than other places I've been to, I believe it's worth the amount of care she puts into her treatments. Other places you're in and out and treated as just another number. She's also located in a more pricey location,where rent is high, so that could be another reason why. Like other reviews have mentioned, you get what you pay for. She doesn't look at the time. She treats you for as long she deems necessary. Maybe 1, maybe up to 2 hours-- and it's not because she has other clients. That's another great thing, you're not sitting in the waiting room to see her. I live two hours away (Palm Springs area) and the drive is far but I feel she's the best I've ever witnessed. It's tempting to go to cheaper places but why go if it's less effective? She's very intelligent and knowledgeable but cannot express everything she's thinking, in English as well as she can in Chinese, since Chinese has more phrases and words to describe what she wants to say. However, she can understand what you express to her and she can communicate with you well enough to treat you successfully. She's pretty flexible and can communicate with you via text messaging. This place is located in a little building/plaza with other small businesses. There is a fair amount of free parking for 2 hours. Bring a change of clothes or be comfortable undressing to your undergarments so she could have access to most of your back, legs, arms, and stomach. She uses essential oils too :). Mama Chang is a genuine healer. Six years ago, I developed debilitating migraines where I felt like my head was going to explode. This lady is truly the real deal. I've gotten acupuncture from time to time for many years and never had an electric shock type feeling when some of the needles went in, her technique is incredible. I had a terrible cough, that was keeping me up at night, after just one treatment I slept through the night, after one more I started getting energy back and after my 3rd treatment no sign of any cold left. Amazing! Be prepared of the price tag though. I am used to paying around $70 and she charged me $110. I'm not sure if that's her usual price, but she told me it was. If she was a little less I would go more often, for health maintenance. Perhaps she really is that good that its worth it. Certainly worth it if you're sick or don't mind spending the extra bucks. Love this place, but not the price. It is cash only at $130 a pop, but Mama Chang is amazing and never looks at the watch. Each session is 1.5-2 hours long and she does miracles. Mama Chang has helped my pain tremendously since I began seeing her in August of 2017. This woman practices the REAL DEAL type of acupuncture, she has been located here in Manhattan Beach for over 30 years and her treatments are incredible. I have had 4 surgeries on my ankle, which left me with both scar tissue and a serious amount of nerve damage, plus my overall issue of arthritis in my talonavicular joint and subtalar joints. After living with chronic pain for over 10 years, I felt so hopeless and depressed. I decided to give acupuncture a try to help with inflammation and nerve pain. To keep a long story short, I will say I am so lucky to have Mama Chang treating me, her treatments have reduced my inflammation, given me more mobility in my ankle and calmed my nerve pain. These are achievements I was unable to obtain with Doctors and the useless medication they were prescribing me. You get what you pay for. Dr. Ann is the real McCoy. She was a master acupuncturist long before most of us were born. When I hurt my back surfing some years ago, MD's just wanted to either A. shove Vicodin down my throat or B. Cut into my back with a surgery that was 10% successful. Yeah-no. I was taking 4 500mg tablets of Tylenol just to get out of bed. I could barely walk. I went to Dr Ann. In 4 or 5 sessions I was 100% better. A few weeks later I was surfing again. Acupuncture isn't a pleasant experience. Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes Dr Ann puts a needle in and you feel a 1000 volt shock run up and down your body. I think that's blocked whatever being released. Cupping makes your back look like you lost a fight with an octopus. Sometimes Dr Ann sticks a needle in you and lights it on fire. Always you'll feel like grandma's pin cushion. But be calm. Trust in her experience and knowledge. - Last year, I moved, got a new job and injured my knee. So I go see Dr Ann about my knee. She examines me...head to toe. "Lie down...relax." As fast as lightning, she puts a dozen or more needles in me...toes, ears, head, hands, feet.... I'm looking like Hellraiser. "I be baack...just relaaax." So I'm lying there...suddenly I feel giggly...then floaty...then fully euphoric...I'm in happyland! Dr. Ann comes back in the room... could've been two hours...could've been two minutes. She pulls out the needles. "Okay," she says. "Remember to get dressed...come out when you're ready." I'm feeling grrreat! I get dressed, come out. "Dr Ann...what did...? Before I could finish my sentence she says, with a slight mischievous tone, "You feel euphoric? You stressed. Yes Ann is for real. Not a new-age trendy salon sort of place, she's old-country Chinese medicine. She's thorough and skilled, a very sharp lady. She's also very accomodating for someone with a random schedule like mine who has difficulty planning- I call up and ask if I can come in. Dr Chang is legit. Been to her practice monthly for a year. Terrific for muscle spasms and pain relief. Had a hugely painful stiff neck. 2 treatments and it was 80% cured with no meds needed. Highly recommend her for a monthly stress treatment - cancel the massage membership. read more

Dr. Ann is amazing - a long time practitioner of acupuncture from China with diamond level skills. She's zapped flu bugs on the spot for me and healed injuries, like a frozen shoulder - in less than 24 hours with just 2 sessions, I had 90% mobility back - woo hoo! Dr. Ann has loads of advice on diet, exercise, etc. to improve quality of life if you ask for it.
