Here were the two reviews I saw, thanks to Chan's website, before I arrived: 1) Chan's is one of the top 100 Asian restaurants in the United States. 2) "In fact, everything I had there was above average." Stop me if I'm wrong, but these two reviews leave a relatively large gaping hole for differing experiences. I'm pretty sure my experience fell somewhere in the middle. My parents, boyfriend and I decided to eat here for my birthday, which was a slightly unusual choice for a special birthday dinner. We were all pretty stoked, however, since we were hoping to see why this spot had been named one of the top 100 Asian restaurants in the US. We arrived around 8:00. There were two other tables of people there and we were seated right away by a young guy who was very nice. He brought us water right away and was very friendly. However, our waitress was blatantly peeved that we chose a slightly later hour to eat-in. (They were open until 11 the night we were there, so I'm not sure why she had so much attitude.) She begrudgingly brought us various items that our table was lacking (silverware, extra plates, napkins) as if we were truly demanding too much of her. The food was very good. We had egg rolls, pot stickers, and crab rangoon for appetizers. All very, very tasty. I had the Kung Po chicken, which was definitely good but not awe-inspiring. I would give this place four stars for its food--very good Asian food for Cincinnati and definitely better than simply above average, but the service was really so cold and unwelcoming (which seemed greatly at odds with the Christian signs of good will that were on our place mats) that it altered our experience. Ironically, my mom's fortune cookie suggested, "Putting a smile on your face can change your day." We thought about leaving it for our waitress, since it was clearly meant for her! read more

Love the food, and they deliver to us. The owner is our neighbor. We ordered tonight and 10 mins later my daughter wanted to add chicken on a stick, when we called he said the driver had already left, no problem at all we said. We got our food a few minutes later. While we eating a litte later, the doorbell rang and it was the driver again with a order of chicken on a stick....free! How awesome is that! read more

Stick to Chinese food at this place. Their Pad Thai chicken and Korean chicken plates were lackluster. We could taste faint Thai and Korean influences but the meal was not close enough for either myself or my husband. The crab Rangoons were authentic and did appear to have real crab meat. I've been to this place probably 5 times now, as it makes for very quick dinners when I'm stuck at work until all hours. There's no denying that the food here is premade. They do a decent business, and most of the meats are common, so they're probably just constantly cooking meat, then adding sauces. You can get your order in minutes. My first few times here I was impressed with the meat quality, though. Perhaps I was ordering non-breaded dishes, but it was tender white meat chicken. Then I tried the beef, and don't think I'd do that again. Then, most recently, I ordered a breaded chicken meal. As typical to cheap, terrible Chinese joints, it was about 95% breading and 5% "chicken." I couldn't even identify the chicken as chicken, and there was extremely little of it. If you go here, stick with chicken, unbreaded. The sauces are heavy, sweet, and likely very heavily caloric, but the white meat chicken is ok. The breaded "chicken" was so gross, though, that I'm uncertain about giving this even 2 stars, despite having 3 pretty decent meals here. read more

Great food. Fairly standard offerings on the menu. Service is always crazy fast. So far we've had the general tsos, sweet and sour chicken, pepper steak, orange chicken, hot and sour soup and crab rangoon. Everything has been great, our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. read more

I tried the pad thai twice. It was tasteless. Little chicken and lots of carrots. I'm not picky but yuck.

Always get delivery hot fresh and simply delicious! Potstickers on point and their general Taos awesome. I ordered spicy Korean beef and shrimp udon soup and my son sweet and sour chicken he loves it! I highly recommend this place. Also just an FYI IT'S a 25$ min for delivery totally worth it!!!! Favorite Chinese restaurant in the Mason area. I go there regularly and the people who work there are kind and get your food to you very quickly. I have never had a negative meal there. There isn't a ton of space in the actual restuarant so do not bring anything more than 4 people. Highly recommend!! read more

I have dined at Chan's for a number of years and it's always very fresh and delicious. I especially like the orange, pineapple, bourbon, and sesame chicken. Their lo mein is also very good. All their food comes out really hot. I would recommend their egg rolls too. They have really good prices. The people who own it are very friendly and take good care of us when we come. read more

Without saying a word to me, one of the male servers came up behind me during my meal He reached his hand and arm across my breast so that his arm touched me. He picked up a bottle of soy sauce off my table and placed it on another table. I was stunned. I bought this to the attention of the manger/owner and all I got was, "So sorry, he is new," and was handed my bill! I was Still Expected To Pay after this guy touched my breast while I was eating! I can't even begin to articulate how I think about what happened and how I was demanded to pay the bill. As reported before surly service. I got very sick on the chicken dish, and was thisclose to reporting them to the health dept. When I tried to explain my plight to the kid he told me to F+++ off. His dad used to run the place. That's when they got all their good ratings, but now it's on it's way downhill fast. Jeez, there's nothing to the dishes anyway, meat, sauce and rice. Everywhere else, they at least put some pineapple and peppers and onions in with the sweet and sour. Don't be fooled by the "Top 100" BS, that was years ago. I will not return. read more

Terrible, terrible food. I thought that since they were in the running for the USA Today's top 100 Asian restaurants that it might be a good place to eat... definitely not. The chicken was very rubbery and poor tasting. I was terribly sick about 30 minutes after eating this meal. I will NEVER eat there again. read more

I've been coming here for years. i drive past several Asian restaurants just to go to Chan's because the food is always very good. Service is quick, and everything is clean, that I can see. bathrooms are always in good condition. I love the friendly service and staff. I LOVE the place mats that depict several languages meaning that this place embraces culture and religion which shapes our history and culture. Went here when everything else was closed already (they are open til 11PM) and I must say that it was pretty good. I liked the wonton soup and the lo mein combo. Nothing special but tastest good and I had definately worse Chinese takeout food. Also was not as fatty as other Chinese buffets/takeouts. read more

Well, other reviewers really disliked this place, but my boyfriend and I get take out from here all the time. The food is not spectacular, but it is good. The service is good and always the same because we get the same cashier every time. I really like this place because it is very close to where I live and the food is made pretty fast. This place is truly an undiscovered gem. Before I moved away, I ate here weekly. Everything I ordered here was better than average. I loved the little things too, like the chicken on a stick they give you or the little wanton cracker things to nibble on while you are waiting for your food. The wait staff barely understands English, which is probably why the other reviewer thought they were being "cold," but I assure you they are just really polite and timid. This place is also really good about getting food out in a timely manner. Their prices are exactly what they should be, nothing more For Cincinnati, and especially for Mason, you will not find a better Asian takeout food joint. I often join Suz M. at Chan's and completely concur with her entire review. Great, quick, tasty, and affordable.

My family and I have been going to Asian Wok for years (literally over a decade now) and it has always been wonderful. Staff is great, food is delicious. They are perfect for a quick meal or carryout they've got super fast service (i used to work a couple stores down and get in and out with my food within 10 min even in the lunchtime rush). But if you want a nice sit-down, they are also a great restaurant in which to relax and luxuriate over your meal as well. I've tried food across the menu, and haven't really found anything I dislike. Favorites include General Tso's chicken, spring rolls, chicken lettuce wraps, and wonderful sugar/cinamon covered donuts at the end of the meal. read more

There are quite a few Chinese food places in this area and its hard to tell from yelp ratings what you may be getting into but I have to take a moment to share how awesome Chan's is. Here are some highlights: Lots of options, excellent timely service (my brother and I ate in), very reasonable. The restaurant was clean. I ordered hot and sour soup, general tso chicken with fried rice, and an egg roll. All of it tasted fresh. The soup was is my top hot and sour soups I have had. The egg roll was excellent. The chicken was solid. If i had any suggestions for improvement it would be the fried rice but it may just have had less egg or oil it in that I am used to when indulging in Chinese - so this is probably just preference feedback :) . When they say they are in the top 100 chinese places it is legit, there are pictures on the wall with them winning the award. I also saw that the Cincinnati Enquirer recognized them (maybe for best in Cincy?). I will definitely go back and try more of the menu. read more

They should've called it fried rice with onions instead of with chicken as there were too many onions in the fried rice. Food was good, but it all kind of tastes the same. could barely tell the difference between our meals taste wise. They do have a rewards program thought which is nice and they allow carryout which is convenient while I'm out shopping. read more

If you like Chinese food I don't recommend this place. I got the general tsaos chicken, there was not much taste to it. You can tell chicken was frozen not fresh. Went last night for the first time for carry out. Possibly the best crab Rangoon I've ever had! All the dishes we ordered were generous and delicious. Shrimp were large and perfectly cooked. Can't say enough for a great carry-out/eat in place. Next time, would like to dine in, as their crispy noodles are delicious, and there are bowls of them on the table!! Very polite service as well. Asian Wok is a family owned establishment in the heart of Mason. The lunch menu is very reasonably priced, servers are polite, and food is typical Chinese food. I wouldn't quite say it's something special, but it sure beats most Chinese buffets. I plan on going back quite often for lunch. read more
