This is our first Thai restaurant the hubby & I have tried since our move to Wa. We started off with the crab Fried Wong which were very tasty, the hubby had the thai BBQ chicken and I had the sweet and sour pork with a heat level of 4 both entrees were served with white rice. Oh My!! Service was excellent and the food was delicious with the perfect heat for my taste buds :) We will definitely be back. read more

Their website says their prices are $11, which is why I placed an order for 3 dishes. When I arrived, I was told my order was $53.90. This was very confusing to me, so I told her about their website and even showed her the price and she was confused and said it's not correct and hasn't been correct in a few years. If that is the case, WHY IS IT STILL ON THEIR WEBSITE? She also told me i shouldnt look at google. I should look at their website. As a customer, how would i know to look up their website if im not familiar with their name? She claimed there was nothing she could do. She couldn't give me the dishes for $11 and there was no manager to help. Careful when ordering online. read more

Honestly this is probably my least favorite Thai place that I've ever been to out of all the Thai places I've ever gone to eat at, including in multiple states. Flavor is lack luster and depending on what dish, even what I consider inedible. I love Thai and was really craving it. My husband found this place on yelp and decided we'd try it... mistake. Obviously I did not satisfy my Thai craving. Pad See Ew is my favorite. This one was just mehhh... I got medium spice and it mind as well had been no spice. My baby could eat it. I'm not trying to be mean but Pad Thai was the worst I've ever had. I'd rather eat fast food Thai that are all the mall stands. It tasted like ketchup noodles. Never in my life have I ever thought Pad Thai tasted anything remotely close to ketchup, but I was straight ketchup sweetness here. Should have known from the color. I knew the color was off to me when I saw it and took a picture but I thought maybe it's more flavorful, yay! It was flavorful alright... The best thing we had there was the free soup we got with our meals. Can we talk portions and prices? Not worth. Other reviews say it's rather pricey. I'm used to paying that price at some places, but here is a joke because the portions are absolutely tiny! Served up on a plate when really it was maybe as much as a cereal bowl worth of food. So for the amount that you get this is pricey for sure. I give this place 2 stars because the customer service was good. For us it was anyway. They were very attentive and came by with smiles always making sure everything was ok and that we had what we needed. Good came out in a timely manner and the restaurant was clean. It's a little hard to nitpick a Thai restaurant. There are very few that stand out above the rest. Including this one. Not disappointed because expectations where set reasonably. Green Curry - Outstanding Panang - too sweet and peanutty tasting ...boo Soups - on par Menu - expansive dinner and lunch menus Ambiance - in a remodeled space in the heart of old Bothell. Very cute, clean and new Price- might be paying for that remodel one over priced dish at a time. Actually the prices aren't astronomically high, but above average. DON'T EAT HERE!!! My girlfriend recommended this place for thai food so I went with her choice. The name has changed so we assumed possibly a new owner.we ordered the food through take out. She gets spring rolls and 0-star Heavenly Beef, i get a 4-star pork Pad see ew. For two meals and a side (no drinks) it cost 46 dollars. So pricey. We get home and open it up. Both meals were overly sweet and they didn't even add and spice to my pad see ew. So the whole thing tasted like syrup covered noodles. Then my girlfriend found a roach in her food! I split orders with a friend when I went for lunch. We got the Crispy Garlic Chicken and the Heavenly Beef. Let's start with the atmosphere. It was a very clean place. The floors were swept when I went and the tables were properly wiped clean. Cleanliness = 4.5 Stars Customer service was a different story. The younger lady that got us seated was very friendly and explained the menu to us nicely. However, there is another women there that was pretty rude. She wouldn't talk to us the first two times that she filled our waters without asking. She also started cleaning our table before we were finished. I never saw her smile once at us. Customer Service = 2 Stars The Heavenly beef came out of a sizzling platter like fajitas. The sauce was even boiling still when they dropped it off. I ordered 3 Stars but the sauce it comes with is so sweet that you can't even taste the heat. It was honestly very similar to a Bulgogi except the meat seemed like re-hydrated beef jerky. Portion size was good for lunch. Heavenly Beef = 3 Stars The Crispy Garlic Chicken was ordered at 2 Stars but was actually more spicy than my Heavenly Beef. It was lightly fried and not over sauced. Tonight my partner and I enjoyed the last dinner of our anniversary weekend here. It was some of the best thai food we've ever had! A fully curated vegan dinner, each dish was delightfully flavorful and unique. The decor and layout of the restaurant is elegant and beautiful, making for a relaxed dining experience. I like the restaurant, the staff was friendly, and everything seemed clean. Parking was a plenty, and they have a pretty extensive menu! So the food: Dont get -- the Sizzling Panang Duck dish, I really didn't like it. I was expecting greasy/tasty hunks of duck but the dish had tough and dry pieces of meat. Skip the -- dessert. Their dessert menu was super basic, and the mango/ice cream/sticky rice option was not very good. Do get -- apps! The appetizers were amazing. I'd recommend getting the appetizer combo, all three items were SO GOOD! Based on my mixed feelings from a first experience, I'd give it an A-OK for now. What to get: Chicken Pad Thai, Crispy Garlic Chicken I was a regular customer at Chantanee before and was so bummed to find out that they had closed. I was missing Chantanee food so much and thankfully I found that Pen Thai is their sister restaurant. And Pen Thai is actually closer to where I live. Took no time ordering from here last night. We did not dine in, we ordered take-outs. It was pretty hard to call in, kept getting straight to their not-set-up voicemail system.. we almost gave up, thinking something was wrong with their phone but then realized the line must have been just busy. Upon our last try, the call finally got through. A woman took our order, she was not friendly. When I got there to pick up, a woman handed my order, there was not a smile on her face. I still gave tip since I was just too happy to get their Pad Thai again. A little about their (and Chantanee's) Pad Thai, the flavor isn't really how a regular Pad Thai should taste like. Their version is more a chili-garlic-tomato sauce kinda flavor, but it actually grew on me so much that I found myself craving for it often. Couldn't find it anywhere else. I always ordered a 3-star which is quite spicy. Last night we ordered 4-star of their Beef Pad Thai and Chicken Pad Thai -- it was too spicy for me but I ate it anyway. The Beef Pad Thai was dry and the meat was a little undercooked, but I enjoyed the Chicken Pad Thai it was so flavorful and it satisfied my craving. Clearly the service is just strictly business, not warm or welcoming at all but the place looks very cozy and clean. I'll be back for their Chicken Pad Thai for sure. read more

Mediocre, wouldn't go back. They are changing the name so I don't know if their reviews will follow... Fresh rolls: totally bland, all noodle and cucumber with a tiny sprig of mint and served with some sort of bland, watery peanut sauce. Pad thai was smooshy thin noodles with too much sauce and VERY sweet and tomato-ey. I asked for fresh tofu and there was a generous portion of big cubes, the only plus from this experience. read more

First impression was the sour faced hostess . Almost walked out but I gave it a chance. No utensils at the table. I was served some kind of soup with no spoon. After I asked for spoon the busboy gave me one almost as big as a little cup. The waitress was nice charming helpful polite. But the busboy ended up serving me my meal and slam the plate down far away from like he was working at Denny's restaurant. I ordered Crying Tiger. The meat was gamy. We have been going to Pen Thai for over 12years but haven't been the last 2yrs since the service wasn't great and the food expensive. We went last night and had the absolute worst waiter--probably the same person everyone else writes about. Short/skinny male w/robot voice. I don't even nowhere to begin describing him. The owner REALLY needs to clean house with him. Seriously. Food is good but it isn't consistent or maybe it was because our waiter didn't write our order down so the 3 stars we wanted didn't happen. Save yourself the headache go find a place that at least offers a smile when you walk in through the door and don't act like you are a bother. * I would give no stars but Yelp will let you only leave a minimum of one star. Today I met a friend for lunch at Pen Thai in Bothell. I arrived five minutes before my friend. I was seated and immediately brought water and menus. I asked for a diet coke and chop sticks (before it got busy). The waiter replied "What do you want chops sticks for now? You can't use them", and walked off. We ordered our food and shortly another waiter arrived with our plates. I had to ask again for chop sticks. Our food was not hot. We should have sent it back, but didn't. Both waiters had the personality of a dead squid. They not only acted disinterested, but in my opinion, were disinterested in serving their guests. I have been a customer of this restaurant for many years. I believe the service is declining significantly. As in the past, this is a very difficult facility to have a conversation over a meal. After my beloved Sai Mai closed, I had no other choice than to try Pen Thai. I've heard some unsavory things about the Pad Thai. I've yet to try it. I have though, tried the "Emerald Curry," and I can't bring myself to try anything else because it's so so good. It contains everything a good green curry should: eggplant, zucchini, peas, and Thai basil leaves. I always order it with tofu. Typically I get fried tofu, but here they use silken tofu, which custard-like texture pairs perfectly with the sweet, salty, and creamy curry. One thing I like about Pen Thai is that rice is included with every entree; even brown rice if you so chose. I also enjoy the modern Thai decor. Pen Thai definitely helps to class up Bothell's main street. I'd recommend checking out Pen Thai at lunch. They serve complimentary soup. It's worth trying. It definitely didn't feel like they typical throw-away free lunch soups most places serve. We were given a type of wonton chicken dumplings soup. The little dumplings tasted like chicken filled gyozas. There was also chopped kale and onion in it. The broth itself had a "clean" quality to it; it was crystal clear and perfectly seasoned. Since it's so close to home we can there by walking in minutes. I'm looking forward to checking out the Monday half priced bottle of wine special. Nothing beats not having to worry about driving home after having a nice dinner and few glasses of wine. ***Update....I was told by the owner of Pen Thai that they serve the "Americanized" style of Pad, and it's by far the restaurant's most popular dish. However, for those that don't like the ketchup based sauce, try the "Pen Noodle," as it's the authentic tamarind based version of Pad Thai. read more

Wondering why their menu is so thick? They have a whole section dedicated to Vegetarian dishes!!! Given that I'm trying to lean towards a more vegetarian (and sometimes vegan) diet, this was really neat for me. I don't think a restaurant necessarily "needs" a special vegetarian section, but it's nice to not have to worry that there will be some meat hidden in the dish that's never mentioned on the menu... and it's nice not to see mentions of meat options. Meat options can be tempting! The service was fantastic, I enjoyed my beer and the entrees were quite delicious. We enjoyed some fresh salad rolls, tasty tasty Tom Kha (soup), and one of their delicious veggie-full entrees. The food was so filling that we ended up taking about half the entree home! Decided to stop here for dinner to check the place out. The first thing I noticed was the prices. The prices of this place are far above any thai place I've been to before, and for the prices you don't get any more. The inside is nice and new looking. Nice lighting, matching chairs. Nice plates and fancy wide forks. Small water glasses (this is especially bad because they never refilled my water) I ordered a Thai iced tea and it was almost all half and half. My 3 star phad see ewe was bland in spicesand overly sweet. The veggies were over cooked. The phad thai that we ordered was good, but the flavor was once again bland. The service is slow. It took a long time to get seated dispite half the place being empty. (Also no greeter) our food took abnormally long to arrive at our table and they never refilled our water in nearly 45 minutes. I talked to some people who really like this place, so maybe this experience a fluke, but still I can't justify the prices here. read more

I went on a Sunday during the lunch hour. The service was really slow. It took a long time to get water for our glasses, and after taking forever to get the water for our glasses, it took a long time for them to come by our table to take our order. If we didn't flag them down, I wouldn't know how long it would of taken for them to grab our order. I ended up ordering the Chicken Phad Thai 4 stars, I felt like there wasn't much chicken in the phad thai, but it was was ok. Thinking about it I would of probably went somewhere else to have it. They do have a lunch menu which goes from 11-3pm which includes a bowl of soup and brown rice. 5 Mins into eating the phad thai, I was thinking, where's the soup, and we had to ask for that as well. Thinking about the whole experience, I would not come back soon on my own accord, but if a group of people go again who had a good experience, I might tag along and hope for a better experience. read more

Pen Thai is the sister-restaurant of Chantanee in Bellevue, so it's sure to please, especially because the menu is identical. What's funny is my boyfriend and I, Bellevue residents, walked into Pen Thai and were instantly recognized by two of the waitresses who also work at Chantanee! They jokingly asked us what we were doing in Bothell, and we explained that we were craving the Thai food that we love from Chantanee. You can never go wrong here (or Chantanee). Everything you'll order is flavorful and addicting. In particular, we ordered the Crispy Garlic Trout, which is an entire trout that is coated with crushed garlic. It was so easy to peel off from the skin because the trout was flaky. It was by far one of our favorite dishes and is worth the 17 bucks. read more

What once was a wonderful, quality thai restaurant is now quite bad. The meats they use are of poor quality and the beef often tastes like it's nearly spoiled. In wide noodle-based dishes, the noodles are often stuck together in chewy, bland balls. Many dishes have very little flavor. The service is poor, staff does not speak when seating a table and seem annoyed that we are there. Rarely does anyone return after food is brought to the table. I've lived in Bothell and Kenmore for the last decade and frequented Pen Thai regularly when it was really good. This place has been very inconsistent over the last year. We were hear 2 weeks ago and the Phad Thai we had was perfect. But, we had lunch here today and the food was terrible. Everything was very salty and did not have good flavor. Additionally, the Cashew Chicken we ordered was chewy and hard to eat. I told the waitress about the food being too salty, who kindly acknowledged that she would let the kitchen know. Definitely not a hole in the wall, this Thai restaurant is housed in a nice, spacious building, is clean and well decorated. Lunch was pretty good too, we had the: Heavenly Beef ($11) - super flavorful, really tender beef, this was super yummy. The sizzling platter caramelized some of the sweet sauce onto the beef, yum! Princess Favorite Chicken ($9) - this was a sweeter version of a curry, never had a curry that tasted like this, it was really good. I appreciated that they didn't charge for rice, thumbs up for having brown rice available. Emerald Curry ($10) - this was good, not as good as the Princess Chicken though Phad Thai ($9) - eek, probably the worst phad thai I've ever had. They have so many other options, don't get this dish here. Not only does this place have an active, modern atmosphere with interesting art and sculpture lining the walls, but the food is amazingly great as well. The waitresses are friendly too. For some reason, there are no waiters, just waitresses. But I don't really have a problem with that. People tell me that all the food is good here, but I'm so hooked on the Pad Thai dish that I never order anything else except for soup and an appetizer. A single dish is so filling that I can usually only eat half of it (except for one time, when I was really hungry). You can choose your spice level for each dish from one to five stars. I go for five stars, which is hot enough to make me hiccup just like eating anything even slightly hot does (don't know why, I think I got it from my dad). Of course, it's only just spicy enough to tickle my desensitivized Indian tastebuds. read more
