I have mixed feelings about this place. Their food isn't anything to write home about - the first dish I tried was the pad see ew and it tasted like decent pad see ew, for sure, but that's all. The atmosphere here is pretty wonderful, I quite like it. It's got a modern and somewhat romantic atmosphere. That would be the strong suite! The prices are pretty high for Thai food (one order of only pad see ew is about $13). That combined with the fact that the food is just okay to good, I would say the value is a little lopsided. Their service team are just normal, average Thai restaurant employees in my experience. Not exceptional, not bad, but they get the job done and the business running. If you couldn't tell, I would overall say this place is "not bad" but has high prices, which makes me want to rate it 3 stars. read more

This is my new favorite Thai place! They are so nice and accommodating here, always happy to box things up nicely, always pleasant and helpful. If you go here, you have to try the crispy garlic chicken. They also have a garlic tofu that is fantastic, and several vegan dishes. Definitely not a hole in the wall, this Thai restaurant is housed in a nice, spacious building, is clean and well decorated. Lunch was pretty good too, we had the: Heavenly Beef ($11) - super flavorful, really tender beef, this was super yummy. The sizzling platter caramelized some of the sweet sauce onto the beef, yum! Princess Favorite Chicken ($9) - this was a sweeter version of a curry, never had a curry that tasted like this, it was really good. I appreciated that they didn't charge for rice, thumbs up for having brown rice available. Emerald Curry ($10) - this was good, not as good as the Princess Chicken though Phad Thai ($9) - eek, probably the worst phad thai I've ever had. They have so many other options, don't get this dish here. We have been back a few times recently and are wondering if this place has new owners or slid down a precipice. Portions smaller, prices higher, service poorer. I used to love the Phad Thai but found it tasteless, luke warm and kind of soggy on my last visit. Also the wait staff was at best curt but more on the unfriendly side. They had packed most of us on the left side which is much noisier. We felt like we should order quickly eat and get lost. Might try it again but most likely will monitor reviews to see if things improve. Note my last two reviews a few years back were both five star. read more

Not only does this place have an active, modern atmosphere with interesting art and sculpture lining the walls, but the food is amazingly great as well. The waitresses are friendly too. For some reason, there are no waiters, just waitresses. But I don't really have a problem with that. People tell me that all the food is good here, but I'm so hooked on the Pad Thai dish that I never order anything else except for soup and an appetizer. A single dish is so filling that I can usually only eat half of it (except for one time, when I was really hungry). You can choose your spice level for each dish from one to five stars. I go for five stars, which is hot enough to make me hiccup just like eating anything even slightly hot does (don't know why, I think I got it from my dad). My girlfriend introduced me to this restaurant when we first started dating, and it is a signature Thai restaurant that we love to enjoy whenever we get the chance. They serve some of the best Thai food in the area, and their service is excellent. This is not the reason I am writing this review tonight though. After a long day of work and looking where we would get take out for the evening, I was pining over this place while realistically considering another location. Thinking I was calling Restaurant #2 (not Pen Thai) I phoned and placed an order for pickup. When I arrived to Restaurant #2, they said they didn't have an order under my name... slowly realizing what must have happened, I checked my call log and found that I had accidentally called and placed an order at Pen Thai, but gone to another restaurant entirely. I called them immediately and explained what happened and apologized profusely and offered to pay for the meal that I wouldn't be picking up. They very gracefully let me off the hook and wouldn't allow me to pay, and even thanked me for calling to let them know of my mistake! Really liked this place, so I'm sorry for the negative update. It may have been just a bad day but the food was not good and the service was not 20% tip worthy. No place settings, coffee not poured and half a cup of soup. Arrived at 11:30 and no one was inside. Never have seen this place completely empty at lunch. Lunch was over at 1 and only two tables were occupied. The construction on Main Street is not enough to empty this place out. I'll be back and give it another shot but..... The restaurant is set on Main St in the heart of downtown Bothell. My husband and I like to order our entrees to-go at least once a week. Some of my favorites entrees are: spicy garlic chicken, pad ki mao with pork, sizzling beef, garlic prawns, garlic calamari, scallop prik pao, and pad see yew with pork - I always get them extra spicy/level 5! This place is reasonably priced considering the portions. It has a lovely interior and feels spacious. The staff is very attentive and prompt especially with water refills. I've only eaten her twice, but it's been good. The lunch combos are a good deal and the food is quite tasty! I give it 5 stars because my co-workers and I were on a time frame and we told them if they could rush the order, and they sure did! Our food came within 5-7 minutes of when we ordered. They are sure quick! It definitely gets busy/crowded during lunch, so I suggest arriving around 11:30am to beat the rush or have a late lunch. They also have a small private room, so if you have a party of 15-20 this is a good place to hold it. Overall, the staff, food and service is great. Can't wait to go back. read more

We have only been here once, but we really liked it. We walked in right before closing and expected to be turned away, but they were really nice and offered us a table. They also didn't rush us to order, which was another big plus. We finally decided on the following: Emerald curry, pad see ewe, Thai bbq chicken, and spicy eggplant. I can't really tell you which one I liked more as they were all really good. However, the Thai bbq chicken was probably my favorite as it was nothing like I expected it to be. Yum! After searching Yelp for a new restaurant to take my boyfriend to for his birthday, I decided on Pen Thai. And I'm glad I did! All of the food was delicious. We started with the Calamari Rings and then he had the Pen Special Fried Rice and I had the Sizzling Sweet and Sour Duck. The calamari was some of the best I have ever had, it tasted fresh and was so tender - it was not chewy at all. The duck was also wonderful. I really like that you can choose brown rice instead of white rice. The staff was friendly and the service was super fast. The restaurant is clean, well kept, and is full of beautiful artwork. Thought we would try this place again since we were in town! No air conditioning what's so ever last night! Very uncomfortable!!! Food was pretty good but the waitress wasn't very professional at all! I asked for the spice tray and she handed me a small packet of Thai Chile pepper and this tiny plastic container of sweet Chile sauce. I am not familiar with this area but we decided to try this place out with all the high reviews, and I am glad we did it! There are a lot of options to try instead of the usual Thai curries and phad thais. Please don't get me wrong, I love Thai curries and phad thais but I wanted to try something different. We ordered the sizzling tofu basket, the pan fried rainbow trout, and their special Pen noodles. We liked them all! - the tofu basket was wrapped with foil and after the waitress brought it to our table, she cleverly cut it and pulled the top to look like a basket. It was great! - the pan fried rainbow trout was very flavorful despite it being too dry. They have several rainbow trout dishes, but I didn't remember which one it was. - the Pen noodles are similar to Phad Thai. But the only difference is that it had tamarind sauce, which we really enjoyed. The mix of sweetness and 3-stars spices was just right! And last but not least I liked how the restaurant was spacious and the service was wonderful. It can be a bit difficult to read the menu due to the dim lighting by the window though. I am interested in coming back and try the other dishes that they have! As we left the restaurant we saw someone had ordered a mango coconut curry, which came in a coconut! I ordered 2 pad see eew beef at 2 stars. Both were so spicy we couldn't eat any of it. I called. They responded with "bring the food back and we will change it". The food is sitting here, awful, but they will not answer the phone, have a manager/owner call.... nothing. Like we are after free food, when they're "2 star" out of 5 is so spicy we can't even eat it... My wife and I find the Thai food here as average and it used to be priced well. Today I found that their prices have soared with a dish at $18.00 + $3.00 for rice. That just doesn't make sense, as the ingredients aren't costly and their portion size are on the smaller side. That's to bad as they probably will lose alot of business as people catch on. Been coming here for almost 10 years, I think. The staff is very friendly, and always able to seat us quickly. They used to have a much bigger menu selection, but, the food is still excellent. My favorite is the Crispy Garlic Chicken (King's Favorite), and my hubby enjoys the Heavenly Beef (comes to you sizzling in a cast-iron pan in a wooden surround, and it smells so wonderful!). I called and complained that the food was terrible and had one piece of chicken and it's not like it use to be a couple years back. I received a call back from a man who said he was the manager, his name is Mike and he called me back to say that they prepackage the food so there is no way that my food could've been made with such a poor standard. I asked him if he was calling to tell me that I was lying and he said "no, I'm just saying you're wrong"... I said I'm currently the manager at a restaurant so I let Mike know that this is definitely not how you talk to paying guests and that he needed a little more work in the customer service department and he said "Honey, I run a multi billion dollar company, I don't need help with customer service" hahah I said excuse me, don't call me honey and I thought you were the manager "He said I'm the owner but I call myself a manager" Hahha that response right there tells me everything I need to know about whoever Mike is. I've been coming here for about 10 years. The quality of the food has always been wonderful. Though many of the dishes no longer fit within my lifestyle and eating habits, some accommodations can be made so I can still enjoy some old favorites! I do miss the vegetarian fried rice. It has a wonderful flavor of spice, and the cucumber/onion/tomato combo is to die for. I recently just had the Pad Thai but replaced the traditional noodle with bean thread noodles and it was so delicious, and also grain free! The only problems I've had with Pen Thai are just language barrier issues. Sometimes words are misunderstood during the phone-in of the order, and you have to sit and wait for your food to be made once you arrive and realize the error. Our food also tends to sit on a shelf in the waiting area when that does happen, so it sits for a good 15 minutes and who knows how long it's been there before you get there. Also, when this does happen, make sure they give you your full order. Last time they forgot our Thai Iced Teas :( Aside from totally understandable miscommunications, the food is fresh and authentic. A friend and I was in the Bothell area and decided to try this restaurant out. The food was good, nothing too special and the service was great at first. As we were conversing about our day, the waiter was eager to pack up our food and have us pay. I believe they came to our table 3 times to ask us if we were ready for a check! I would figure after the first two times they would realize that when we were done eating we would find someone to help us. On their third visit, my friend finally says that we were done (only because we were tired of them interupting our conversation) and they took our food to pack it up. On our way out we realized that they were about to close for dinner in about 30 minutes. We figured that was probably the reason why they were rushing us out. But we still had 30 mintues! A recent dinner with the WH and an old friend of his from out of town brought the three of us here. A scan of the Yelp reviews beforehand and he went straight for the Garlic Crispy Chicken. This is the umpteenth place in all my years Yelping in which multiple reviews single out this dish in particular as somehow life and/or taste bud altering. I've yet to truly understand the appeal/reasoning behind it. I don't think I've ever tasted any of the dishes with this name that were awful, really, but none I would ever describe as anything that strongly. A taste of his and I still think people are nuts. Its was ok, but I don't even think it's something I'd ever actually order. It's a "try it of that guy's plate" dish to me. I went for the Duck curry, brown rice and a Mango Mojito (ok, 2 of those). Duck portions were ample, haphazardly cut chunks of very tender meat. Some pieces still had skin, something I found a bit off putting texturally since I didn't expect it in the dish. Perfect spice level (I requested on the lower end of the scale and they nailed it- which isn't always the case) Service was a bit hard to get but nothing egregious. Had we been in any kind of hurry or with a plan or ran out of conversation topics too fast it would have been an issue, but for that night- it was just something I noticed. They didn't circle often, but when they did we received friendly interaction and water refills. The check came at a reasonable wait after the meal. The out of town part of our party neglected to ask for a split check and we opted to head to the hostess/cashier rather than wait for the wait staff to return to us. The hostess happily and quickly accomodated the split. The mango mojito was pretty tasty. Fresh puree makes up the base of the drink tasted fresh and the mint was a lovely addition. Appropriately boozy for an evening cocktail without being overpowering. Some of their other drinks have "clever" names, this one is good enough it deserves one of it's own. Also tasted was OutofTowner's "angel wings", described as "stuffed chicken wings". They looked more like boneless drumsticks on steroids, but holy Christ they were tasty. Juicy and tender meat, a sweet tangy sauce. A very shareable appetizer as it's bigger than you expect when ordering. It took me a long time to visit here, but I will keep it in rotation next time WH gets his knickers in a twist for more Thai. read more

Delicious!! I have never had Pad Thai before but chose pork pad thai - I was very happy to find out it was made with rice noodles. Super yummy! I am so impressed with the food and spice level (I got medium). However I docked a star because it was really slow and they didn't notice we were skipped for our check once three other tables left. We were there before a couple others. Also, didn't get refills of water until we were about to leave! But they were really nice and sweet. So I enjoyed the food and service enough but they just need to stay on top of their customers. Very cute inside too! I love the decor. Thanks for great food! read more
