I wanted Pho, but is Monday and Pho Mignon was closed so walked a few feet down the sidewalk. I ordered the "lunch special" Phad Thai. I also said 3 out of a possible 4 on the spicy range. It was really spicy for a 3, but I didn't see chili oil or chili garlic sauce on the table, so went for it. We've only visited a couple of times so far, but we quickly became fans of Thumra Thai. The food is excellent and the staff are wonderful. It's like visiting your auntie: homely and welcoming, with yummy treats. I couldn't say it better than Floris R. in their 5* review of May 2024 - check it out. Everything we've had from the menu has been great. A group of six of us went over the weekend, and everyone enjoyed their chosen dish. Restaurants is starting to look old and a little unkempt. In addition the spice rack gives a feeling of very dirty. The server lady was very nice and the menu was big but we only had the wonton soup because other pictures did not look appetizing. The wonton soup tasted salty but the wonton was good. I'm embarrassed to admit that I just realized I never posted a review for this magnificent place. I've been coming to Thumra Thai for over 13 years now and I just noticed I never reviewed them. First the food is wonderful. Cooked with love as if your mom or grandma would cook it for you. Second the ingredients are fresh and healthy. The original owner's daughter revamped the menu after finishing her medical degree at Bastyr University. Third is the feel that you're coming to eat at your family's house not a restaurant. I love that because it shows how much love and effort they put in every dish. Now, I have to adress some of the less than stellar reviews I've read here. If you're looking for a fancy and trendy Thai restaurant where you can take pictures of their thousand of dollars worth of furniture and lightening and enjoy overpriced food and overpriced fancy drinks , this is NOT for you. It is HOWEVER for the people like me who enjoy supporting a small business that has delivered quality food and service for around 20 years to our community. I have been coming to what I deem is the best Thai restaurant on the Eastside. Placed my order over the phone as they offer only take out due to the corona virus epidemic. They hope to get back to full service once the restrictions are lifted. As for the food, the drunken noodles w/tofu was delicious. Tried a new dish Kao Soi which is a curried dish w/ noodles minus the coconut milk. This dish was good but not the same as one that Little Uncle used to offer. I like my dishes . For the novice, I would advise against going with 4 level heat. Met the owners daughter for the first time. She was very cheerful and offered free Krispy Kreme donuts. My drunken noodles had a lot of veggies, which I typically wouldn't like but this still tasted good! Thumra Thai is located in the strip mall behind QFC in Totem Lake. The interior is small and cozy with a limited number is tables. I found the food itself to be okay, but not great. The portion size is smaller than other Thai restaurants, which would be fine if the taste and flavor were superior. I visited during the massive romaine lettuce recall, and while other food-based businesses had removed it from their menu or shelves, Thumra brought it out as a side salad with peanut sauce, which I found very concerning. During my particular visit, I was one of two tables in the restaurant, and we (and the other table) had to walk to the back to get our server's attention when we wanted to pay and leave since they hadn't come back to check on us since bringing out the food. read more

I love this little hole in the wall. Best part is that is never crowded and the owners are the kindest and nicest people ever! They are also super hard working folks. Prices are reasonable and food is consistent. The only reason why they don't get 5 stars is because I think that some of their dishes are not as great as I had in other Thai restaurants, Pad thai would be one I rather have somehre else. Thumra Thai was okay. Like the ubiquitous cheeseburger, you can't really go wrong. In the end, it's a cheeseburger. And cheeseburgers are delicious. I feel similarly about pad kee mao...it almost can't be bad. I get that, just like the cheeseburger, you can find all kind of takes and variations on pad kee mao. But for me, I like mine with a good bit of char on the noodles from the wok, lots of egg, noodles with texture, and a bit of dark soy sauce. Most of these were missing from my pad kee mao at Thumra. It wasn't bad but I won't be craving it like I do other kee maos from other local joints. That being said, my girlfriend liked it because their version was not sweet at all. I think this is due to the lack of dark soy sauce. Also, the lunch menu says that all lunch entrees come with soup and salad. I got soup but never got any salad, which I was looking forward to. Heat levels were pretty good. 3 stars got a little sweat going and a little burn. Right on point for me. read more

I got their drunken noodle lunch combo with two stars and it was so good that I finished all of it in a short time. The flavor was really good and I couldn't stop eating even when I got really full. Thurma Thai is a small Family ran business. They have remained consistent throughout the years and provide your typical Thai food favorites. During COVID they have had great organized practices. In the beginning they used to leave your food out on a cart for pickup. It later transitioned into a distanced table inside to pickup and also to pay from a distance. Whether you appreciate the safety or not, it is nice they consider the effort. I'm not sure what the current practices are, but be assured the food has remained consistant. I would recommend the Red Curry with beef, Pad Kee Mao with Chicken, and if they have it available, the Bangkok Chowder. You aren't going to get anything special from the menu or atmosphere, but you can count on some delicious Traditional Thai food. Keep them in business. read more

Me and my friend went to this place on a Sunday night dinner and were surprised to see just us in the restaurant. At first, we thought the restaurant was not so good and the food is going to suck and of course we were wrong. We had the drunken noodles and cashew chicken (stir fry) and both of them were amazing. The drunken noodles was a little spicy but had the authentic Thai flavors. The cashew chicken was juicy and the chicken was well cooked with thin cut chicken. Stopped by Thumra to check it out on a Friday night with family. I wasn't expecting much from the appearance but I'm so glad I came by!! Since moving to WA I have yet to find a place that reminds me of my favorite Thai place back home. This is the closest I have found. The service wasn't fantastic but for a small hole in the wall type place it could have been way worse. We ordered the steamed muscles to start. The broth was absolutely delicious. We ended up ordering jasmine rice to eat with it after the muscles were finished it was so tasty. Then for dinner we had the chicken Pad Thai and it was also delicious! I would recommend this to anyone trying Thai food for the first time or for anyone who already loves it! I will definitely be back when I'm having a Thai craving. read more

I had avoided returning to Thumra since my first visit, about a year or two ago since it was just mediocre, but my experience at lunch today was very different. I chose pad see eew with tofu from the lunch specials menu, which comes with a small bowl of what is affectionately termed "comfort soup", for about nine dollars. The portion was definitely enough to have shared with another person, so I was happy I had leftovers. I asked for a medium level of spice, and was very happy that they did not dumb this down, as many other Asian places do for the American palate. This was a true medium: spicy, hot, but not overpoweringly so. there was a great balance of soft wide rice noodles, finely sliced pressed tofu, mushrooms, carrots, red peppers, scrambled egg, and onions all in a really yummy light sauce. The server was very sweet, and since it was just moderately filled for the lunch crowd, everything came out very fast. Sounds like the dinner shift may be somewhat different from the lunch shift, based on some of the reviews for takeout that I read. I would say definitely try this place for lunch! read more

Strip mall spots can be such a cool hit or miss pursuit. Sometimes you find a pot of gold, sometimes you're happy to get close to that. Thumra is reasonably close to being a pot of gold. First thing you see when you walk in is the pair of Coleman lanterns hanging from the posts flanking the vestibule. There's ivy around them. Then you walk in to a small, clean, tidy dining room. A couple tables, a few booths. Modest, but lovingly tended to be sure. This place is definitely granny-friendly. And what makes me say that? That would be the intense devotion to servingware that this place shows. Lots of different pieces of china, all of it nice, all of it sparkling clean. Special rice bowls, special appetizer plates, soy pots, chili paste pots, chili flake pots, trays for under the pots, trays for under the rice bowls, trays for under the special serving bowls. The sets don't all match each other, but the pieces in the sets do, and the overall effect is a nice cheerfully careless formality. When you meet the server, who much clearly be the owner and might very possibly be the cook, and see how incredibly nice she is, you see that the china has been planned with some affection for a nice meal among friends and family. I came by myself tonight and still ended up with service for four on the table, counting all the little pieces. Most interesting about all this china? Every pattern looks european, there didn't seem to be anything asian on the table. It's entirely possible that this restaurant was founded as an outlet for an antique habit. And the food, well, that was really good. Delicious jasmine tea (cup, saucer, pot, etc.). Fresh-tasting housemade pot stickers. Flavorful green curry. All for $15. I'll definitely be back. read more

We recently discovered Thumra Thai in Totem Lake and was surprised how great the food was! My husband and I tried a few different dishes (drunken noodles, red & green curry, soups, fried rice...) and all of them are great! They are light, not too saucy, not oily (as some of Thai places could be). The food is seasoned just right and super tasty - It seems to me that every dish is freshly cooked at the time of your order. Not something been sitting in the pot for days just got dug up and warmed up in the micriowave. The BEST is the Bangkok Chowder coup which comes with the lunch special...!!! I'm getting hungry again just to think about it. Bravo all the way for the food at Thumra Thai! It's a great place for a great meal. It's a family-owned & operated restaurant and the service is just excellent! Oh yeah and it's very reasonably priced, too! ** update - after trying several other Thai restaurants around Kirkland, Bellevue & Redmond, I'd say this place is definitely top-notch!! My roommate discovered this place last year when we got all of the snow. It was the only place we could find that hadn't closed due to the snow and the only business that was even open in the plaza. Fate lead us to one of the best family owned and operated restaurants I've been to. I think the restaurant is owned and operated by a three person family. I started going here a lot while I still lived in the Kirkland area. But that night we were served by the "mother" who served us every time but maybe once. Alone that night she was keeping the restaurant open despite being completely snowed in herself. The food is great, the prices can only be beat by fast food joints, and the service is one of a kind. I don't know if I should share this story or not... but the second to last night I was there I noticed a decoration that reminded me very much of a piece my grandmother used to have in her living room. After dinner I nostalgically admired it and after a moment or two drummed up the gumption to ask if I could buy it. It wasn't big or expensive, but it immediately had some intangible sentimental value to me and I was prepared to pay maybe... $50 - $100 for it? When I asked "mother" if I could buy it she immediately unplugged it, took it from its place and offered it to me refusing to take any money whatsoever! I was shocked and haven't before or since felt so humbled the generosity of a stranger. Well maybe not a stranger... certainly not anymore. I realized though that between having the only "open" sign on in a totally desolate snow covered parking lot, and serving each customer like they're a family friend... this is the care that goes into each meal that's served. Please don't start asking for their decorations... but please DO take a moment to enjoy some of the fruit of their hard work. The back of the menu tells a story about who their family is, how they came to the states, and how they opened Thumra Thai. Your taste buds and even your wallet will thank you!!! read more

Their wide noodle dishes are the best I've had! I love Thai wide noodle dishes and often find them to be disappointing in most Thai restaurants, not here!!! Thumra'a wide noodle dishes are SO good!!! Great texture with phenomenal spices sauce/spices! I read it on their facebook page that their chef (the owner himself) has a secret techniques of cooking stir fried thai food without using any cooking oil and apparently that's how he's been cooking his food at Thumra! Kudos to the owner for making healthy + delicious food for customers! Overall Awesome Thai Restaurant! Great family owned place, super friendly family and great service! Murphy's Law in action. Avoid this place. I really wanted to like this place. Most of the Yelp reviews seem positive which is usually a good sign. But I'm not sure what they were reviewing, my experience was a miserable one from start to finish. Let's start with the service. Poor. The server might have been new (I got that impression), but he was literally running around - like a chicken with his head cut off - making all the diners squirm. There weren't that many of us, either. So his dashing back and forth at a near run seemed excessive. He was trying, and the ding against service isn't because of the pace of food coming out of the kitchen, it's thanks to the server's constant running, the strange noises he was making with his mouth the whole time, and the way I was scared anything delivered to my table was going to slide right off and land in my lap. The decor inside this place is nothing spectacular. Every time the door opened, I was hit with a blast of freezing air despite being deep inside the restaurant. It was really unpleasant. The layout also caused some problems with the cleanliness of the place, so let me move on to point three. Cleanliness: feast or famine, and mostly famine. Incredibly Poor. My first experience with the rushing server was the man running to clean off the table where he meant to seat me. He used a bleach solution to sanitize the glass table top. Now, this is a stupid idea for numerous reasons but the two that ran through my head as I gingerly sat down were 1) Gah! I need to watch out or I'm going to get bleach on the sleeves of my shirt, and 2) That's a really unpleasant smell to try and eat with. I got up to wash my hands before my meal - letting the bleach dry on the table some - and went back to the restroom. I wish I hadn't. Set aside for a moment how dirty the back of the restaurant was; there was an open tub of chicken parts about three feet from the bathroom door. That's not hyperbole or exaggeration, there was a big tub of diced chicken pieces open to the literal eau de toilette sweeping out of the restroom. No saran wrap cover, either. Which leads to the food. Poor. I ordered the pad thai with two "stars" of spice (out of four). The first bite told me that the beef, too, had been stored warm and open to the air. It had that bitter metallic taste and rubbery texture indicative of badly prepared and bloody meat that had been allowed to rust in a warm kitchen for at least an hour or two. Served only with a little shredded carrot and sprouts, the pad thai lacked any sort of real texture and was flecked with a huge amount of burned carbon from the dirty pan in which it was cooked. The spice level was off; even at a "two," the burn was more along the lines of "let's cover up the taste" than "let's make you cry with joy." I asked for a plate of cilantro or greens to mix into the pad thai and was informed that "they don't serve that with pad thai." All around this was a miserable dining experience. Normally, I'd give a place two trips before reviewing it, but there's nothing here to justify a second trip. read more
