I'm my 89 year old mother's caregiver and she's been a patient of Dr Cohen/PA Catherine Dryer for a few years now. Thankfully we do have her on a good health regimen so she doesn't need much care but we've always had a decent experience at Chaparral until recently. I can confirm the other most recent reviews, this office staff is horrible and horribly run.
My mother was complaining about pain in her leg and when I checked it, found a significant sized mass in her leg. I tried to call to see if I could get an appointment for an urgent issue. They've updated the phone system to only give you two options, one is to press 1 for prescription refills. The other is to wait to be transferred. Press 0 and get nothing. Once it transfers you, the recording says your call will be answers in X amount of minutes. It told me 50 minutes... 50!!! So I hang up, call back and immediately after that it then all the sudden says it will be 17 minutes this time... how was it just 50 minutes and now its 17? Anyways, I choose to wait, because there are no other options and an hour later I am still on hold. No one picked up. I called back a couple times after that, and nothing changes. Decide to try again today.
Today, by early afternoon it is doing the same thing. Press 1 this time, maybe can just ask whoever answers to fill prescriptions what is going on, except guess what? YUP! No one is answering at that option either! Finally I call their Cardiology section downstairs and someone did pick up, I explain my situation to her and she actually did care and tried to help me find out what was happening in Dr Cohen's office upstairs. She places me on a long hold and told me they would be calling me.
When they call, I explain what has happened and how my mother needs care, the young lady who called me could care less about my mother and how I spent two entire days trying to get through to them. NO compassion, no apologies and I was not rude, I was calm and detailed in explaining what happened. Her response "yeah, we're too busy to answer the high amount of phone calls we receive, so we just leave people on hold until we can get around to answering calls but yes we are really busy"
I tell her my mom needs to be seen, likely will need to have an emergency ultrasound ordered, her flat response was that Carolyn Dryer is not there working with Dr Cohen's patients anymore so my mom will need to actually see Dr Cohen and then doesn't ask to check the schedule. SO I had to tell her OK... I would like to do that then, I need to get her seen asap. Flat, 'oh ok." He's not available until a month from now in mid May. Unacceptable, is there anyone else we can see? My mom really needs care. coldly she says no.
I tell her "wow you guys really do not care at all about your patient's anymore" She just sits there on the phone and says nothing. I say "Unfortunately, I feel like you're leaving me no choice but to find another provider for her and leave your office" She barely acknowledges and asks if there's anything else I need today.. like...what?!?
In a nutshell, her response left me feeling that they A) do NOT care at all for their patients needs B) they could care less if you leave their office
This staff is so horrible I don't understand how any of them have jobs except that the office manager is likely the source of all this mess. Someone could die from their indifference and lack of attention. Stay away from this place. it's the worst of the worst. I may complain to the state medical board. read more
