I have been under the care of Dr. Unger since moving here in 2019. There are no words to describe how much this man, and his office staff, have changed my life. You see, there are those like myself whose predicament is one where a Dr's proficiency, and humanity is the key distinguishing factor between a life of suffering or a sustained quality of life- I am so blessed. I am writing this review, not as a patient of Dr. Unger but has a colleague in medicine. I am a physician as well who has been in medicine for 13 years. I have worked and been educated in 7 large institutions across the United States working with professors of all walks of life. I work as a consultant with Dr. Unger and interact with him regularly but in a different sub-specialty. I know him to be one of the most caring and thorough clinicians I have ever met. His history, resume, expertise and personality are outstanding. He has gone out of his way to write to textbooks on the management of diabetes. I have met several people who have done this, none of them have the aptitude and kind personality that Dr. Unger has. When I receive a referral from him, I receive an informed history that is certainly the most thorough and relevant to the particular question we are aimed to ask of any available. I know many primary care physicians, Dr. Unger is the most interested and attentive of any I have met. Every referral comes with a detailed letter. When I receive referrals from other institutions and individuals, it is up to me to seek for further information and this is often done at a great time investment on my part. There have been instances in which I will call him without any foreknowledge, I will mention a patient's name and he will be able to recall, in detail, all recent events, labs, and other features of the patient without any reference to a medical chart. I don't know anyone who can do this. When I interact with others, I am invariably asked to hold momentarily while they search through their charts to receive a mental update. This isn't exactly a sign of poor performance for others, in fact is is reasonable, but the fact that Dr. Unger is able to accurately describe in many unprompted details the situation cannot be understated. I believe it is a reflection of his attention. It is not distracted, he has the appropriate energy in the right place. Needless to say he knows his patients very well, he interacts with them outside his clinic hours regularly, he always knows what I am doing for them as we work together. I have never met a primary care physician so exhaustively involved in a patient's medical care. When other patients come to my clinic expressing concern about their current primary care provider, Dr. Unger the first thought to come to mind. I have been through this experience many times. Inevitably I receive a telephone call from the patient I referred to him with very positive thoughts, the overwhelming majority are highly satisfied. read more

This is special and incredible Doctor . I was blessed to be one of his patients. Unfortunately this review is not enough to describe my experience and my appreciation I would just say that His approach was life changing and absolutely magical. I am grateful that nowadays we have Doctors like Dr. Unger that can provide life changing treatment while healing body and mind . Moved recently to the area and tried to call to make new patient appointments for myself and husband. After I was asked some personal questions and insular e type, I was told the manager would call me back since she or he has to approve the appointment first? This seems very discriminatory and biased. Will report them to my insurance provider. read more

Dr. Unger and his equally sweet wife, Lisa, treated me with such care and professionalism when I received my 1st Moderna shot about a month at their drive up clinic. She not only repeatedly checked on me after my shot but he came over and personally introduced himself. This is not my regular physician but I can tell you these are caring people. Great Doctor......really easy to talk to and really cares.. and wants to do the best for you, I was going through a tuff time and his nurse called and showed great compassion for my wellbeing. My husband and I are both patients of Unger Primary Care. This year has been one for the records as far as our health has been concerned. Dr Unger and his staff have taken the best care of us both in their office and via their tele medicine option, as well as providing us referrals to the best alternative care givers as well. Dr. Unger was very knowledgeable. I had an Appt. set for 3:00pm and was called into the room a few minutes after 3 which was impressive. Usually no Dr. Is ever on time, I'm use to waiting a half hour or longer in the waiting room at my last Dr's office. Dr. Unger spent a lot of time with me and answered all my questions. I never felt rushed and Dr. Unger has a great personality. I would highly recommend him not only for his knowledge and expertise but he also has a great staff on hand. read more

I was told that Dr. Unger was within my insurance network. After 4 MONTHS of appointments, I was told, "Oops, we made a mistake". The office staff and Dr. Unger were completely unwilling to work with me regarding payments, and then had the audacity to back-bill me for the months of appointments when they had only been charging me in-network costs. They then refused to allow me to have an appointment because I had an "outstanding balance". Dr. Unger may make you THINK he cares about patients, but when push comes to shove, this is merely a business for him. Don't let yourself be fooled, like I was. read more

I highly recommend Dr Unger. He is very thorough and seems to truly care. He's got a good sense of humor and explains everything as well. He also has worked with Hulk Hogan and Randy Macho Man. Hmmmm I can't give a Zero star rating.... too bad.. Dr Unger was hubby's PCP for many years. The ball was dropped in his case. He had his PSA tested following a physical with Dr. Unger, who discovered on DRE, an enlarged prostate.. . We never got the results of this blood work. We weren't called, we never received paperwork in the mail.... nothing!.... We continued life, fat, dumb and happy. A year and a half later, after we'd moved to Oregon, hubby had his PSA tested again and it was abnormally high(6.8). We were shocked. We called down to Unger's office to get the results of that last PSA . It was 5.4 -- Abnormal! Ooops, I guess they dropped the ball! Knowing what I know now, we should have called to get the results of this test, but we'd put our faith in his wonderful practice. Don't let the stars, glitter and pics of Doc with Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage blind you. This practice did nothing with this abnormal test result...It turns out, hubby's prostate cancer was missed by Dr. Unger. I can't recommend a practice that can drop the ball on such an important test result, especially when hubby presented symptomatic. If he was good enough for Hulk Hogan, he certainly isn't good enough for us! read more

I have to laugh at two of the other reviews. You should know your insurance and what it covers. It is real simple to see if you are in or out of network, and you should check before you go to your first appointment. Having said that, My Fiance' and I just got back from Dr. Unger's office. She has had migraine issues since she was about 8 years old, and has seen many doctors about trying to manage them. After 3 appointments, Dr. Unger has the situation completely under control and her headaches are pretty much gone. He has a great bedside manner, and remembers little things to ask you about from visit to visit. He is very thorough. Today's appointment was nearly 2 hours. Not because he kept us sitting in the waiting room, but because he wanted to make sure he thoroughly addressed each and every question that my fiancé and I had. I've not ever experienced a doctor quite like Dr. Unger. read more

There are not enough words to express how thankful I am for Dr. Unger. I have been going to Dr. Unger for almost 27 years. During that time he has saved my life numerous times and made house calls to even give me an IV in bed when I was so sick. He spends a great deal of time with me while in the office as well. Its unbelievable how much knowledge this man has!! He can fix anything. He also has great referrals for specialists in the area. He has taken to the time to get to know me and even knows my family, grandkids and pets by name!! His staff are the sweetest and the office is SO beautiful & clean. Changing my review after seeing how the Dr billed my insurance company and how his staff did not share that along with my $65.00 copay they would also be billing $395.00 for the office visit. The Dr is easy to talk to and fun to be around. After seeing a new Dr this year, it was discovered Dr Unger ran many unnecessary tests. The total amount billed to the insurance company $5000.00. Really? For blood work, ekg and hearing test. Both ekg and hearing test were not needed as my new Dr states. I don't have any signs to give reason for the tests. Heartrate normal, hearing normal with the exception of tinnitus. I give Dr Unger credit for his bedside manner and ease of talking to him. I just don't feel he was upfront about costs as he should have been. I'm very happy with my new Dr in Glendora and don't have the worry of high expenses or tests that are not needed. If you can afford his program, great for you. I prefer to pay for each visit as my Dr is accessible by phone when needed without the extra cost. read more
